With Magic Sand Beach a 10 minute walk away, a pool in the yard, a fantastic deck to watch the sunsets, the place is pretty great. Some of the "accessories" that come with the home are in need of updating/replacing (bedding, frying pans, deck chairs). The driveway up to the garage is steep, so a low car will bottom out (the rented Caravan did but the Rav4 did not). There is a great collection of pool and beach toys and towels. The barbecue was excellent at the all appliances worked well. The neighbourhood is great, quite quiet (except for the entertaining birds), you can hear the waves at night. The available in-law suite that has its own access was a bonus for the not so close friends.

We were pleasantly surprised to have a separate Ohana cottage with this property. My son, his wife and 4 y.o. daighter stayed there, while the rest of us stayed in the main house. Very comfortable and well thought out property. The garage has everything you need to go to the beach and several beach towels were available. The kitchen had everything we needed. The pool is small but fairly deep and perfect for cooling off after a hard day on the beach ⛱️ 😎. We absolutely recommend this property.

This house was perfect. It had everything we needed and was very clean. It was also the best temperature we experienced (different condos) because the layout allowed for great cross breezes.
The house has everything you need for the beach or pool too which helps with keeping your luggage light.

The house is well stocked with all the essentials. We did end up buying a new cast iron frying pan because all of the nonstick pans were really scratched up. We left it in the kitchen for future guests to use.
One big thing is that the house does not have recycling collection. You have to take recyclables to the transfer station. There is a PUR water filter pitcher in the refrigerator, so use that instead of buying a case of bottle waters.
As stated in the description, only the ohana suite has AC. There are extra fans found in the closets to cool off further if needed.
It is a tropical environment, and there are plenty of little creatures roaming around the house. Make sure to keep clean, especially in the kitchen or you'll find yourself in a bug circus.
The only issue we ran into was the box spring in the master bedroom sliding off of the the metal bed frame and cracking. I'm only 120 lbs. so it was a bit scary when I sat on the side of the bed with my baby and dropped to the ground. The host was very responsive and offered a temporary fix and let us know it will be remedied before the next guests arrive.
Overall our entire family had a wonderful time and my 4 year old didn't want to leave. I highly recommend staying here.

My husband and I rented this amazing property with two other couples. It was the first time visiting for all 6 of us.
From the moment we booked this home we have had exceptional service. We received so much information on the area and things to do before we even arrived. Questions were answered promptly.
Check in & out were easy processes. The property is in a great location. Easy access to a local beach, gorgeous sunset views and all the amenities you need. The pool is an added bonus. We can’t say enough about how much we loved our stay here. Highly recommended it.

The location is terrific, the view is even better in person. You could tell that care was given to try to include many comforts of home (bath towels, beach towels, linens, books, games, laundry detergent, dish soap, etc.) to make the start of our stay easy. The pool was lovely to relax in, though some of the tiles are coming off. We did not understand that the main home was without air conditioning so we experienced many warm days and nights when the breeze was lacking. We ended up not needing the ohana (which does have a window AC, but the area is too small to accommodate us all). Our kids enjoyed naming the plethora of geckos in the house. The mouse and cockroaches were a little tough, though. We were able to catch and dispose of the mouse (he was hiding under the fridge and stove). The home was pleasant enough, the updated countertops and sinks are a nice touch, but some things still feel a little rustic. Overall, it provided us a laid back place to land and the owners were very thoughtful in their planning and communication.

Obviously, a gorgeous property with plenty of space for larger groups and all the amenities you could ask for. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. The location is within walking/biking distance to many fun spots and a short drive to even more amazing can't miss visits. The owners provided an excess of beach towels and ocean toys (snorkeling gear, various boards, etc.) which was very convenient because we didn't have to waste time renting. Very quiet and private neighborhood. Owners also provided an extensive list of activities and food on the island so we could avoid wasting time.
The driveway is very steep but there is abundant street parking. We were there for a formal wedding, so the lack of air conditioning had us sweating in our suits, but very understandable given the climate.
Overall, 10/10 amazing experience that I would highly recommend to anyone!

As soon as we walked through the doors, we knew this house would be perfect for our family vacation! We arrived with our 2 adult children and their partners and had lots of room in the kitchen preparing meals and drinks and enjoyed eating meals, playing cards and games on the lanai.
We loved the swimming pool and waterfall!!
The house is in a great location with a short walk to Magic Sands Beach and a short drive to the Keauhou Shopping Centre.
The To Do and Where To Go info left for us was priceless. Sarang was very responsive to our questions and we appreciated the thoughtfulness of kitchen equipment, snorkel gear, and beach supplies in the garage. Although the large teflon frying pans and ironing board have reached the end of their lifespans. :-)
We would stay here again and would definitely recommend this house for families. Precious memories were made there for our family! Mahalo.

We traveled to Hawaii for the first time with our family and we enjoyed staying at the house! We especially enjoyed the pool and the boogie boards. We loved Magic Sands Beach and some of us simply walked there. We appreciated the cleanliness and the beach towels available so that we didn’t have to purchase them. We didn’t realize that the lower living space was not connected to the upper level without going outside but we had adult children that enjoyed the separate area! Overall it was wonderful and, although it was fairly rainy during our stay, we did get to enjoy a sunset from the lanai! Mahalo!!

What an amazing vacation we had, and a big part of it was this house. First of all, it was easy to get to and get in, very clean and well stocked, and the layout was perfection! We all loved hanging out on the lanai and playing in the pool when we needed a beach break, and there was plenty of beach toys, coolers, equipment galore. We will definitely stay again.

Our guests consisted of My sister and her son, my adult kid, my 10 year old, and myself. It fit our needs well. There's a little studio that my older kid stayed in and got some privacy. The pictures do make the house and pool seem bigger and brighter than it is, but it was just fine. The location was nice and was easy to get to pretty much anything and away from the craziness of Ali'i drive. The host was VERY responsive.

I'll start with the positive. The location of the property is in a quiet neighborhood with an easy walk to Magic Sands. The layout of the house is great for a family get together and the communication with the owner was easy and the check in/check out process was a breeze. The master bedroom was spacious and its bathroom was in good condition.
And now to the rest. The house itself photographs better than its reality and is in desperate need of a deep cleaning, repairs and some TLC. If you have asthma this is not your rental. Compared to other rentals we have had this house was incredibly dirty, with dust everywhere including clinging to the walls, the backside of doors, smoke detectors and portable fans. There was paint chipping from the walls, and mismatched paint could be seen in many areas. The window frames were peeling, rusting, and several didn't close at all. The screen in the guest bath was bent which allowed bugs and geckos to enter. The shower was were covered with what we assumed to be gecko droppings. It was the worst, but droppings could be seen in other areas as well. There were ants all over the kitchen and while there were traps already set out, we had to buy additional ones. No food could be left on the counter without any crumb a potential target.
One of the shades in the twin bedroom was zip tied up because it didn't work even though it had a direct sight line to the neighbors. Our bed cover was stained and there was only one bath towel per person to be had.
The screen/sliding doors to outside didn’t close properly leaving large gap for insects to come in any time screen doors were in use. In addition, the door's handle was loose and we repaired it while there.
My sister and her family stayed in the Ohana. Her report was that the bed was not super comfortable and the fold out was really uncomfortable. No one who slept on it had a good night's sleep.
The driveway is extremely steep so if you someone in your party with mobility issues expect to have to shuttle them to the bottom via a car.
The Wi-Fi was constantly resetting and the Roku TV proved incredibly frustrating to use or find anything on.
We raised our concerns to the owner upon arrival and we were refunded a $275 cleaning fee which was a fraction of our rental cost of over $6K.
I really hate leaving a review like this, but we not rent or recommend this property.

We had a great time at this property. Host was very quick to respond to inquiries and the house had everything we needed for our multi-generation family vacation. There was lots of room and we liked having the young adults in the downstairs unit so they could stay up later when the rest of us wanted to go to bed. We prepared and ate almost all of our meals there and the kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. The beach was a short walk and the garage had everything we needed - cooler, chairs, snorkels, floats, and sand toys. The pool was perfect for relaxing in the evenings.

To get to a 5 star rating, however, the house needs in one or the other place a repair and basic cleaning (stairs to the pool wobbles, pictures and walls partially yellowed, in one or the other place wobbles or missing something).
Nevertheless, we had a lovely time in this light and airy home, and enjoyed the sunsets and ocean views on the deck. There are lots of accessories for beach and water, beach chairs, boogie boards, snorkel equipment, cooler etc.

This property is so cute. From the layout of the house to the cute pineapple plants growing outside there is so much character.
I do have to say that this house needs a good scrubbing from TOP to bottom. The lights and beams were covered in dust and the walls were splattered. Also some home restorations like paint repairs could be done to be more pleasing on the eye.
The pool was amazing. It is a salt water pool and my kids LOVED it! It was the highlight to my kid's stay. The Lanai was also greatly used! Dinner on the Lanai with the pool water feature on was the icing with every sunset.

We rented the house plus the separate Ohana unit for our family of 6 adults and 2 children because we needed 6 beds. We would stay in the house again. The house was great - very comfortable, located only a few blocks from Magic Sands - a nice little family beach - and a short drive from a shopping center with a grocery and drug store and restaurants. We could even see the sun set over the ocean from the deck. It was well-equipped for cooking, easy to do laundry, and the kids especially loved the pool. There were beach chairs, beach towels, sand toys, snorkeling gear, and coolers which made our trips to the beach very easy and enjoyable. The problems were maintenance and communication. Our adult son slept on a mattress on the floor for 2 weeks because one side of the support springs on the old hide-a-bed in the Ohana unit have torn out and the owner wouldn't correct the problem. There were a few other maintenance issues such as the older sliding door screens falling off their tracks. The lack of a bed was a big problem but the other issues were minor. We enjoyed our stay and especially recommend it for families.

It wasn't clear about there being a separate living quarters, which we didn't use. The pictures made it seem like the beach was directly outdoors, but wasn't a bad walk. The only think I didn't like was the outside pool lights around the pool. They never came on. All and all, it was spacious, clean, and sufficient for the 5 of us. Would definitely recommend it. The home was beautiful and exactly as described. The home had everything we needed and more and is ideally located just minutes from the beach, shops, an dining. The only problem we had was that we couldn't get any of the TVs to work. However, I'm sure this would have been easily resolved but we decided we didn't need TV and enjoyed the pool, playing games, listing to the beautiful birdsong, and enjoying everything the property and area had to offer. This may be the favorite amongst all of our vacation rental stays!

This home fit all our needs - close to beaches, easy access to highway for touring, and a pool for the kiddos when they were tired of beach waves. We could still see the ocean from the deck.
There were a few staples like seasonings and syrup; no pizza cutter for quick bites at night when too tired (read: cranky kids) to go out.
Do note the 4th bedroom is a separate entrance which we forgot and the driveway is much steeper than appears in photos and a full size Tahoe will not fit in the garage unless you get creative and figure it out like we did; there is street parking.
Groceries and restaurants are not super walkable but there was parking on Ali'i near the shops & restaurants.
Overall, great space that worked for 5 adults and 2 kiddos (7&8).

My friends and I (5 ppl total) were so pleased with our stay. This place, more than any other vacation rental I’ve stayed at, is a true home away from. The kitchen is well stocked, not just with tools, but with cooking staples like oil, salt, rice, sauces. When it’s time to hang out on the beach, they have everything you could want - snorkels, water shoes, fins, boogie boards, beach mats, towels, even a harpoon! It’s a great size, and 5-7 people can stay very comfortably. Beach is a 5 minute walk away, and the location is very central. Definitely read the guidebook, which is a wealth of information! We did not want for anything during our stay!

My family and I stayed for 3 nights. The house was nice but seemed very old. There was a lot of chipped paint all over the walls. I had my 3 kids with me (ages 6, 3 and 8 months) and unfortunately didn’t find the house to be very kids friendly. There was no crib but we found a pack and play in the downstairs studio. The pack and play was very old and small. I wish I had brought my own. Also the house has very little privacy and the bedroom doors are not solid so it was very hard for my 8 month old to take naps at the house. If you have small children who nap during the day I wouldn’t recommend this house. The stairs down to the pool have a railing only on one side so it was a bit dangerous for my 3 year old. The coffee maker in the kitchen was very filthy. We tried to make coffee one morning but it tasted terrible so my husband had to go get coffee every morning.
I would say the location is great! Very close to the beach but it’s more of a party house than a family getaway. The house was ok for us. I would suggest some TLC to make it more inviting and family friendly.

It was a nice and spacious house for my family. We enjoyed the kitchen area, pool and lanai, and appreciated having a grill. Unfortunately, we felt the overall cleanliness of the house was poor. The ohana was not cleaned for our arrival, dirt was on the bed and the floor was dusty, which forced us to clean it ourselves. In the main house, 2/3 bedrooms had sand/dust in the bed and on the floor, the coffee maker was filthy, the screen doors in the master and kitchen would frequent fall off the track, gecko poop we’re not cleaned off the lanai, and lastly, the master bath tub leaked through to the ohana. Wish we could give the stay five stars.

generally a pretty nice place. Love the style of the home, definitely feels like hawaii. Location is great, with walkable access to nearby beaches. Kitchen is fully stocked, clean, etc. nice floral arrangement when entering, owners were available for any questions/issues.
A few minor downsides - the baby/toddler items were so old they were mostly not usable. Highchair was easily 30 years old and almost broke when putting my kid in it. The "crib" which was a pack and play wasn't clean, and the kid gate for the pool was pretty flimsy. The wooden drying rack was really old, wood was splintering, paint chipping, etc. All needs to be replaced or taken off the description.
They were missing bath towels but the owner offered for us to use his, which was nice. We used some beach towels but they didnt smell clean so we washed them.
Unfortunately there was a leak in the lower Ohana room when using the master shower, so we had to modify our habits a little bit to accommodate. Owner didnt know so it will likely get fixed. The soaker tub didnt look clean, had spiderwebs in it, etc.
Pretty minor cons to an otherwise nice place!

The listening is 100% spot on. I grew up in Kona and this place was perfect for our stay. The décor was all Hawaii and Kona. As the sun rose each morning it was quiet and you could only hear the birds singing. Close to everything. So many amenities too. Plus, ecreational gear. We will stay there next time. We loved it.

My family enjoyed a wonderful stay at Sarang’s home. Communication was seamless and extremely prompt, and the house was exactly as listed—clean, spacious, with plentiful amenities. Pool and lanai in the back were great to relax in. The ohana was perfect for a couple and had its own kitchenette and full bathroom. We would definitely stay again!

This is a great place for the whole family. The pool is perfect! My granddaughter spent a LOT of time in the pool in between snorkeling sessions at nearby Kahuluu Beach.
I have stayed in the Magic Sands area of Kailua-Kona previously and love the overall convenience of the area. You will too.
The house is well equipped and set up for a large family group. The property owner manages the property himself and is available and understanding of renters' needs.
If I were to take my family with me to Kailua-Kona again I would rent this residence again.

It's so nice when a homeowner makes a home like this accessible to the average family at a reasonable price. From the architecture to the complete amenities this house was amazing. Had a couple issues with the water heater but the host was quick to respond and help. We loved the salt water pool, the geckos and the kitchen! My god the kitchen was fabulous! Book this one you'll be glad you did!

This is the third time I have traveled to the Kona house, and have loved the new changes that were made. Fresh coat of paint in the master and the new Hawaiian pictures added a real island feeling. The new paint in the queen bedroom and living room area is very nice and warm. Did not spend much time in the house, mostly because the beach is a quick walk away. One thing I liked the most about the house was how quite the neighborhood is. The pool was great after a long run on Ali'i drive. I had not been there since you put in the new bamboo flooring in the master bedroom. Wow, love it. Will come again and again.

Ok rental. Not clean but OK location. Neighbors yelled at us to keep my sick crying son quite and owner who call in the middle of the night. Not worth the $ or trouble . Much nicer choices available.

What a great spot. Close to town and the ocean, but with a small neighborhood feel. This is the spot if you are looking for a family friendly rental or a romantic getaway. Please be respectful of the surrounding houses and you will enjoy a peaceful stay. The pool is nice and the house has an open tropical feel.

Hesitant to share this spectacular home. It was more than we could have dreamed of for our famiy vacation. Want it to be ours. Family gathered to celebrate husband/dad's 60th. My husband and I enjoyed this spacious house for the month of March.
It comes, as advertised, with a sense of spaciousness and privacy. The pool is beautifully fit into the landscape, easily accessible and maintained on a weekly basis. Our children and grandchildren especially enjoyed the closeness to the Magic Sands Beach. The adults enjoyed the spacious bedrooms, comfortable common spaces and very functional kitchen. We all loved the large Japanese soaking tub...what a treat!

We rented this 4 bdrm, 3 bath home for the bridge week between November/December, 2012. It accommodated our family of 7 adults and a 6 year old very well. Although we did not use the pool much the 6 y.o. was very pleased it was there!
The owner was in Oregon but was very accessible to the telephone to answer any questions we had. The home was clean including lots of clean glass windows overlooking the ocean. The salt water is a bear to keep off windows in such close proximity to the beach. The location is ideal…only 2 streets off the waterfront. The waterfront being Magic Sands Beach which is a completely white sand beach…the finest beach on the whole island in my estimation. It is called magic because the large waves that show up in the winter pull all the sand away (it literally disappears) and it returns sometime in the spring. We spent 5 wonderful days on that beach and one night the waves came crashing in shaking the house. The next day the sand was GONE. Everyone enjoyed swimming with a resident turtle that was in the bay just beyond the beach. The location is great with a large grocery store very near along with farmer’s markets and tourist attractions. This was a 5 star vacation for our family and we won’t hesitate renting this house again. Highly recommend it.

This home was beautiful and perfect for my family! The house was located conveniently to Keauhou Shopping Center and walking distance to White Sands Beach. The home was spacious, clean, and had such a great "home" feeling. My family fit comfortably and we were happy there was a separate Ohana for the rest of our family. We really enjoyed our time in this home and will definitely stay here again when we return!

Our adventure started out a year ago with an inquiry to our host Randy concerning rental of this home. From the beginning we found him to be helpful, flexible and kind. Knowing there would be 6 women in the house he even added extra hair dryers!! The pictures on the web site did a good job of showing us the home. It was great to have a garage for our rental vehicle. The pool was lovely and well maintained. There is a large dining table that accommodated all of us as well as a table on the lanai. We appreciated all of the beach equipment including towels especially since the airlines are limiting baggage. The location was great. Just off of Ali drive, the main thoroughfare, yet far enough from the village that it was quiet and less traffic. The home is set in a quiet residential area where we felt safe and contained. Thanks Randy for use of your home and all of your well thought out accommodations.

I can't say enough about how wonderful this home and owner is! We took our 4 kids and my parents and the size was perfect for us. We loved that my parents had their own little suite. The house was clean and it was wonderful to have extra boogie boards etc. Almost everything we needed was there and when we asked where the BBQ equipment was, it was provided! Fantastic service!
The pool is fantastic. It's narrow but deep which is perfect.
Magic sands beach and an amazing snorkeling area are a 5 minute walk down the hill, a trolley comes hourly to take you to town or the movie theater and I could see the ocean from the living room and master bedroom. We had an amazing time and having this home as our home base for a month really added to our vacation. It was hard to come home!

A group of friends and I recently visited the Big Island for a friend's wedding in Hilo. We spent half the time in Hilo and the second half in Kona. The differences between the two places we stayed at were night and day. This place was awesome!! The home was in fantastic condition and was extremely comfortable. Lots of space for plenty of people in the main house with a small apartment attached for more people below. The proximity to the heart of Kona is very close and Magic Sands beach - a white sand beach - is literally a 5 minute walk from the front door.
The accommodations were fantastic, the view is good of the ocean, the space is excellent, there was lots of natural light available and plenty of fresh air throughout. The only thing that was mildly annoying was some birds chirping too early for my liking! Otherwise, it was a great time.
Thanks for providing such a wonderful home for our first visit to Hawaii! We'll definitely recommend your home and keep it in mind for any future such excursions to Kona!
