Welcome to Hale Hina - The Home of the Hawaiian Goddess of Sunrises, Sunsets, Coral Reefs, and the Moon!

Our home is very special, and has many fabulous features and amenities, including the most important and maybe the most intangible one: Hale Hina is our vacation home too.

Why should that be important to you? Because we stay at Hale Hina three times a year, and when we visit we enjoy having a beautifully decorated, well appointed and excellently maintained home. Other vacation homes, left alone by their absentee owners to be managed by a 3rd party company, will never be given the same energy, love or attention as Hale Hina.

Featuring panoramic coastline views, an infinity pool, hot tub and a gourmet kitchen, our private residence, located in the gated and guarded Keauhou Estates community, in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, is the epitome of ALOHA living.

Relax into the embrace of the Hawaiian Goddess, Hina, when you step into the grand entryway through etched glass doors depicting gorgeous Heliconia flowers and towering banana trees. Our custom 2661 square foot, three bedroom, three bath hale has everything you need for a peaceful, re-energizing, private tropical island vacation.

Upon entering the expansive great room, the cathedral ceilings create a vast sense of space. Curl up on the cushy crescent moon couch and watch your favorite Blu Ray movie on the 60” flat screen with surround sound, or listen to tunes through the integrated sound system. Let the captivating view lure you through the two giant pocket doors onto the covered lanai, as Hale Hina seamlessly connects the indoors to the outdoors.

Grill some freshly caught fish, local grass-fed beef, or your favorite veggies (picked up at the Keauhou Farmers Market) at the convenient outdoor kitchen. The lanai features ample covered dining space for six people and an outdoor seating area for cocktails and conversation. Afternoons melt away in this peaceful setting where you can unwind in the hot tub or the infinity pool and your privacy is protected by the tropical landscaping and lava rock terracing.

The gourmet indoor kitchen is a chef’s dream with granite counters, cherry cabinets and all the tools you need to make a simple meal or an epicurean delight.

The spacious master suite features a California king size bed, walk-in closet and large pocket doors that open to the lanai --revealing the soothing ocean views. Slide between the soft cool sheets after an evening soak in the hot tub, located just outside the bedroom. Unlike hotels and condos, Hale Hina’s pool and hot tub don’t have a closing time! The master bath includes a walk through marble shower concealed behind a glass etched ocean scene, Jacuzzi bathtub, a long granite counter with two sinks and a separate room with a comfort height toilet.

The second master suite includes a California king bed, a queen size Murphy bed, its own spacious bathroom with double sinks, comfort height toilet, a walk in shower with grab bar, and outside access through a sliding glass door with a path to the pool area.

The third bedroom offers a queen bed and a convertible over-sized chair that cleverly disguises a regular twin mattress. A rainforest marble shower and travertine floors complete the guest bath located just down the hall.

Let the ocean breezes carry away your stress while you watch the whales and surfers frolic off the coast during the day. Marvel in the beauty of a perfect sunset as the stars begin to ignite the sky and you watch Hina weave her moonlight magic.

Overall a very nice property and well stocked kitchen. The views are absolutely gorgeous. Minor hiccup of fan not working in one of the bedroom but the property manager provided small fans which made it manageable. Would love to stay here again when visited Big Island.

This house was perfect for our family of 5 adults. Loved that you can open up the entire back of the house leading out to Lanai. Spacious outdoor space with lounging and dining space with infinity pool and hot tub, all overlooking beautiful oceans and sunset. Highly recommend!

We stayed 6 days at the end of our 16 day vacation to three island. Very relaxing sitting at the pool and watching the sunrise and sunset. Beautiful! One master suite at the far end allowed us privacy while my daughter and her family had the other side of the house. We cooked in most dinners and the lanai was very nice for all of us eating our meals. I enjoyed the pool with my 3 little granddaughters while others snorkeled or did other activities. Not far from the main strip of Alii drive where many shops and restaurants are located. If I needed anything, Ute, the property manager was available by phone/text. Owners were very nice and even checked up on us to make sure we were good. We all had a great time and I would recommend this home while staying in Kona.

Hale Hina was perfect for our family including grandparents, parents and a toddler. The kitchen was well stocked: provided option to bbq, cook at home or pick up food. The location was ideal: close to many restaurants and stores, plus beaches. The best part of Hale Hina is the lanai overlooking the pool and Pacific horizon. Again, this provided options for our group (pool, hot tub and/or relax on the patio).

Beautiful home with incredible views! Very scenic. Everything was as described. Top notice appliances, furniture, and lighting. Couldn’t have asked for a nicer place!

Very comfortable and relaxing. The pool and hot tub were an added bonus. The driveway is narrow and tricky if you want to turn around at the top of the driveway. All in all, a great place and perfect for 3 couples.

The view is worth a million bucks. Really is an incredible place to relax with a group of people and just stare into the distance. The location is close to a grocery store and restaurants making it easy to manage family needs. The beach just down the road is good for snorkeling but not great for kids. It's very rocky and there are a ton of sea urchins. There are many kid friendly beaches within a 20 minute radius, so beach time is easy to achieve. The house supplies everything you need for a beach day, so no need to rent your own gear as long as your group is less than six people. Host and property manager (Ute) are wonderful and very responsive. Absolutely worth every penny!

The house is as advertised. It’s beautiful quiet place to stay not too far from Kona. Sallie and Ute made sure to let us know if we had any issues to let them know (we didn’t have any). We highly recommend and hope to visit again sometime in the future.

Beautiful property! Some days we didn’t even want to go sightseeing. We just relaxed by the pool. This property has everything! Thank you so much!

I am from upstate NY (Rochester), so anywhere in Hawaii is going to be impressive. This property was awesome! It was very clean and well appointed. It is air conditioned, which is not always the case in Hawaii. It's worth the price of admission for sure!

It was our 30th anniversary and my parents 50th so we treated then to a trip to Hawaii on a shared anniversay in paradise. The house was perfect. Beautiful setting with breath taking sunsets. We would recommend this home to anyone. We are looking forward to a return trip in the near future.

Even before than the expected. There were seven of us and plenty of space. Very private. The sunsets were amazing. Ute is the best.

We had the most wonderful stay at Hale Hina and of course, did not want to leave. My wife and I have four kids and had a romantic getaway without them this past week. The house was in perfect condition and was incredibly comfortable. We have rented many other VRBOs over the years and this house takes the cake as the most clean and and where everything worked perfectly. I HIGHLY recommend you stay at Hale Hina. Sally was lovely and we greatly appreciate her sharing her home with us. Thank you for this wonderful experience. Sean and Meredith

Amazing home, with great lanai and pool area - the living room walls fully retract so that inside and outside blend together for full tropical immersion! Great size for two couples and a kid, with everyone getting their own bedrooms, but having a common area to hang out. Short drive to diving and restaurants - as long as you don't require being walking distance to the beach, we'd definitely recommend this place!

My friends and I splurged on this incredible home to celebrate a friend becoming a new mom — surprise baby came 5 weeks early and we found ourselves together for the first since the world altering pandemic in paradise. We rallied, enjoying her pregnancy masseuse, adding more excursions to our itineraries — we swam with manta rays at night, enjoyed snorkeling at beach 69 (not a grain of sand returned to properly with us!), some took a fishing charter & drove to Volcano National Park for the day, stoping at a black sand beach and ending with seeing actually erupting lava as the sun went down. At our home for the week we cooked in the amazing Hale Hina kitchen — slept hard every night after a swim and Hottub and lined up reverently for sunset each evening. If we had done nothing but sat on the lanai and watch birds and lizards, listen and smell the flowers and enjoyed each other’s company we would have been complete. This house welcomes you with its comfort and delights your eye with each artistic touch. We hope to return one day soon and that Splotch the outdoor calico kitty is up for more than secret nighttime feedings and occasional sightings from afar. Ute was a fabulous on island resource! Thank you Sallie & Fam for sharing your beautiful home with us.

This gorgeous property is situated in a quiet gated community, less than 30 minutes from the KOA airport. The layout and furnishings of the home are beautiful but the real star of the show is the view. Whether you’re in the kitchen, master bedroom or lanai, the views are stunning. My husband and I loved every second of our time here. Between the property owners and managers, we were made to feel like friends invited into their home, not just random tenants connected by internet. This was a magical place and so glad DH and I got to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary here. Mahalo!!

Excellent communication and overall experience. The owner takes pride in her home and it shows! Very detailed instructions and clear labeling made everything easy to use and understand. Beautiful sunsets and comfortable sleeping arrangements for our family of 7. Favorite parts included the pool and hot tub with pool toys provided, caretaker Ute and the overall quality and cleanliness of the property, especially during COVID. Highly recommend!

Gorgeous property! Very clean property, extremely safe during Covid times. We were able to do all check-in and any questions remotely with Ute (on the island Property manager). Love that there are 2 "primary suites" with ensuite bathrooms and a separate bathroom for the 3rd bedroom. Perfect getaway for our family. Wish we could have stayed longer.

We had an amazing time staying at the Hale Hina. Everything went smoothly with check in and with covid protocols. This is the second time we have stayed at the house and will definitely book again in the future.

July 2021
Beautiful well-appointed home with spectacular ocean views. Very quiet, in an upscale, gated neighborhood. Very clean and well-organized with instructions for everything. We spent most of our time relaxing on the lanai by the pool and hot tub. Would defiantly stay here again.

July 2021
Wonderful home, we had a great 10 day stay. The lanai is the perfect spot to hang out with the family, the shower was always hot, the kitchen and pantry are well appointed, the living room is comfortable and has plenty of seating for a large group, and the neighborhood is quiet and safe. If I had a complaint it would be the AC. Coming from the South we like our houses cool. It is controlled to not go below 72. That’s a little warm for us, especially on the hot Hawaiian days - it does cool down eventually but the ceiling height (while beautiful) means that it takes a while. The only tub pictured/in the house has also been broken for quite a while. But the host was kind enough to bring us a baby bath so we could bathe our 7mo old. I would recommend this home as it’s in a beautiful neighborhood and the outdoor space for the wonderful sunsets just can’t be beat. The Morris Family

Fantastic home that had everything! The infinity edge pool and spa was a great venue for watching the beautiful Hawaiian sunsets. Close to everything without having a crowd around from Hotels and restaurants. We greatly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to our return.

April 2019
We had a group of 6 people from ages 12 to 80 years old, and everyone loved this home. The view is amazing, and we were thrilled to watch so many gorgeous sunsets from the comfort of our "own" backyard. The outdoor sitting and dining areas are perfect-- we never ate inside once. This house has everything you need, from appliances to serving bowls to seasonings. (Tip: pull out the tall skinny drawer for oils and seasonings-- everything is there!) The master bedroom and bathroom are huge, and the other bedrooms are good sizes with very nice bathrooms. The master bed was super soft (too soft for our tastes) but it looks like we could have removed the foam topper. Another tip: if you plan to use the Murphy bed, it needs to unlocked. (Thanks to Ute for coming back to take care of that for us!) Everyone was very responsive and very helpful. We would love to come back and stay again, or just move in! :) Thank you for such a wonderful vacation!

Only wish we could have stayed longer!!! Such a beautiful home, everything was great. Our three year old loved the swimming pool, as did we. The house was perfect for the eight of us, from 94 to three years old. Thank you Sallie, so much for allowing us to stay in your home!

February 2019
Beautiful, spacious home in a secure, quiet neighborhood. The home offers a layout that provides privacy for everyone in your family or group of friends. The kitchen is a chef's dream, every kitchen gadget you can imagine is available for you to create a feast and enjoy the luxury of the outside lanai for dinner watching the sun set. Amenities abound, pool toys, beach toys, towels, laundry facility, creature comforts for a great night's rest- can't think of one thing we needed (oops, just one- umbrella. We were there for the storm of the century and the heavens opened up). The infinity pool is pure eye candy but in our case we enjoyed the added attraction of the hot tub for those chilly mornings. There are plenty of lounges to enjoy some tanning time and cool off in the pool without having to figure out which beach you might have the luck to park your car. Enjoy your private oasis at this home, the birds will serenade you!

January 2019
The property is amazing and the view from the lanai is spectacular! We rushed home every night to catch the sunset. Everything about this home is perfect! We enjoyed our time there and hope to be back soon. This was our first big vacation in a while for our family of 4. The house is plenty spacious, very nicely decorated with all the kitchen supplies needed. The lanai and infinity pool with the views of the ocean make this the perfect spot!

This home met all of our wants while in Kona. We came to the island so I could compete in the Ironman World Championships, so the location of this house was absolutely ideal....close enough to Kona to be easy but far enough away to be quiet and private. The view though. That's the best part. We spent every available moment on that lanai! The home was very comfortable and spacious enough to accommodate 3 couples, each with their own large bedroom and bathroom. Also had plenty of room for all my triathlon stuff! Loved the little geckos everywhere that would come out to say hi. We can't say enough good things about this property and I would highly recommend it to anyone coming to the area....especially for you triathletes that come to this spectacular island in October to race! Thanks again for sharing your home with us.

We’ve stayed in at least 5 other homes in the area. Hale Hina is our favorite home to rent in Kailua Kona. It’s in a perfect location and extremely well maintained. The home is spectacular and Ute is wonderful. We’ve had her assistance at other homes and you will love her and Hale Hina.

August 2018
The home is exceptional everything you need and more. Our stay happened during a heavy Vog from the volcano so we didn't see any sunsets. The weather is something you can't control but all other aspects were great.

August 2018
Hale Hina was a great home with a wonderful view of the ocean. You immediately relaxed upon arrival. You wanted just to sit on the lanai and enjoy the view. My nephew said it best when he walked in, “wow”! The home was very welcoming to visitors; very comfortable. Already planning our next visit.

Hale Hina is the most beautiful home! We had everything plus more than we needed for our family vacation! The lanai was perfect for morning coffee and relaxing! The view was gorgeous! Ute (property manager) was very helpful! Sallie and family thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us and making our family vacation the best ever! Mahalo!!! ;)

I want to report that our stay at the Hae Hina was fabulous!👍. We really got the island feel with wonderful views and comfortable open living. The views from the lanai were fabulous and the infinity pool and hot tub were a delight! I recommend this home to all. 😎👌

October 2015
We can't say enough great things about Hale Hina. The house is beautiful and the view is even better than the pictures. We got a lot of use out of the pool and hot tub, especially around sunset each evening. There are great instructions for everything in the house and Ute, the house manager, was very helpful. Anytime we had a question, she was quick to reply and help us if we had any trouble. We used the house for work, and it provides plenty of privacy for three people or three couples, with the three bedrooms and bathrooms. There is a lot of space to spread out. It's about 10 minutes to downtown Kailua-Kona. General notes that might be helpful: -The exercise equipment in the photos is no longer in the house. Small disappointment but not a big deal to us. -The air conditioning takes a bit to figure out and every single door and screen door in the house (and there are a lot!) must to closed in order for it to run. -There is a blender, food processor, etc in the pantry - so it is very well equipped to do your own cooking. -There is also a grocery store (KTA) just down the road, less than five minutes. -We had trouble with very small knats in the house. We realized after the first night that they are attracted to light, so we kept the lights off whenever we weren't home, which helped a lot. They are also easy to vacuum up, so it was just a small nuisance. I think that's just what happens on the island this time of year and not something unique to this house. Overall, we LOVED the property, would highly recommend it, and plan to stay here again on our next trip to the Big Island!

May 2015
The house was everything we expected it to be, based on the VRBO info and the reviews. Absolutely beautiful! My wife and I are 50+ and travelled here with our two adult children, 24 and 28, spending 10 nights at Hale Hina. Location was great, giving easy access to shopping and Alii Drive, where you can cruise down along the water to downtown Kailua. Our kids rented mini choppers and had a blast going down to the beaches, meeting a lot of the locals. Sallie, the owner, was always very responsive whenever I made a request via email, prior to arrival. Ute, property manager, made certain we knew she was there to help us out, should we need her. Great experience overall. We absolutely loved hanging out by the pool and made good use of the hot tub, always enjoying the incredible view. My wife and I are already discussing which friends we would return to Hale Hina with for a vacation.

We stayed at the Hale Hina from 1/6 - 1/13/2015 and it was everything we expected and more. My husband and I took our son, daughter-in-laws and our two granddaughters (18 months) and this home was perfect! The pictures do not do it justice! It is a beautiful home, safe neighborhood, absolutely stunning view, quiet, wonderful breezes and sunsets and has everything you could possibly want. Our grown children told us that they would be perfectly happy just staying at the house - obviously we did not do that! It is close to great restaurants, beaches and amazing snorkeling! We had a wonderful time and definitely recommend this home. Ute - the property manager was so kind - even returning Nikon camera equipment that we left behind. Thank you Ute! The only problem we had was leaving! I plan to return and stay 2 weeks next time - one week is not long enough! Thank you Sallie for sharing your home with us!

January 2015
It was wonderful to see that Hale Hina was exactly as advertised and more!!! This is a beautiful house--excellent floor plan for our family of eight, plus amazing attention to detail. We cooked 90% of our meals in the well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed Vitamix smoothies for breakfast with various Crock-Pot, barbequed or oven (nice large oven) meals for dinner. We really appreciated the great directions and labels in the use of everything. The beds were comfey and I particularily appreciated the 1st Master Bed; that mattress was amazing for my damaged back! Another detail that was so helpful were all the night lights. It was also an unexpected surprise to be able to make long distance phone calls on Christmas day or any day on the house phone free of charge, thank you! The pool, hot tub and lanai made the days so fun, yet relaxing, that it was hard to leave the house to explore the island. The music, plus having shade or sun on the lanai was ideal.

We have been returning to Kona for over 30-years and any time we travel with friends and family we will rent a home somewhere between downtown Kona to Keauhou that is fully equipped with a pool, spa and ocean view. Hale Hina is a beautiful home as shown on the website and well appointed and comfortable. Sallie and Ute are wonderful to work with and do their best to make your stay memorable. It is easy to settle into the island spirit at Hale Hina and we had absolutely no issues with the home or association. The Big Island is a favorite go-to destination of ours when we want to get away and Hale Hina provides the perfect location to stay. A great value for any occasion. There is a reason this home rates so well with so many, you can't go wrong. We'll will certainly be back.

October 2014
We spent 8 days at this lovely home while my husband competed in the Ironman. It is very spacious, in a super quiet neighborhood, and the views are extraordinary. The pool/patio area is particularly lovely. The house manager was attentive and accommodating, the beds were very comfortable, and the house was very well-stocked, from kitchen utensils to towels to books for poolside reading. Our only small quibble was that we like a very cool house at night and due to the configuration of the windows and the AC, we couldn't make it as cool as we would've liked but otherwise, perfection!

August 2014
Hale Hina truly is a great vacation rental in Kona. The house is spacious and the kitchen has everything you need to make a gourmet dinner. The pool and the jacuzzi is a great place to relax and enjoy the incredible view. The sunsets on the lanai were breathtaking every night! I would highly recommend this place if you are planning a trip to the Big Island.

July 2014
Hale Hinayana is a lovely property, and we all enjoyed our stay. There were 3 couples, and all were appreciative of Ute's orientation and responses to our questions and minor issues throughout our stay. The property was a slight compromise, as we would have preferred ensuite baths in all Bedrooms, but it was not a large issue. We also would have liked a different control protocol on the a/c, as we were all Yankees and needed a little cooler environment. We understood the need for the interrupter switches, but the 5minute wait was too long. Minor issues! Loved the layout, the pool, and the hot tub. The location was also super, close to everything. It allowed us to check the Big Island off our bucket list in fine style. Thank you for sharing your home with us! Bill Carr

June 2014
We spent a week at Hale Hina with our adult sons and their girlfriends. The house and pool is really more beautiful than the pictures. There was plenty of space for a family of six to hang out or find private space as needed. I was so appreciative of the well-stocked kitchen, the luxurious bedding and towels and all the attention to detail. It felt like a fancy hotel we had all to ourselves. Ute and Steve greeted us and oriented us to the home and everything we needed was there. Our sons proclaimed it the best vacation of their lives!
