We loved our stay at Hale Makai! The house was impeccably clean and exactly as pictured in the listing. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed to cook meals, and the owner even provided towels and other supplies to take the the beach. We loved having a private hot tub and screened-in lanai. The location was ideal for our trip - it is in a residential area conveniently located near Waimea Canyon and great hiking. Would definitely recommend this home!

We have stayed at many vacation rentals (including at least six on Kauai), and this property is very nice. It was well outfitted--the kitchen had a wide array of tools and some staples (like coffee and mustard) that are not often included. And it was immaculate. I don't recall staying at any rental that seemed as clean. For four people, it is quite comfortable (we had only two and it felt big). You can walk to the beach in five minutes. The owners were very nice to deal with. It does not have an ocean view (not that anyone said it would), but that is really the only downside we saw.

This beautifully appointed home made the perfect gateway to Waimea Canyon and Koke’e State Park. The home was spacious, comfortable and had nice options for dining indoors, on the lanai or in the pretty backyard. Chad came by to see that we had everything we needed. Mahalo.

The cottage was welcoming and comfortable. Great Lanai to wake up to with a cup of coffee and end a day with a book on. Great kitchen (sharp knives), and beds! Liz and Chad were very warm and welcoming. They have everything you need for a memorable vacation on Kauai.

My husband, 17year-old son and I had great stay at this very well appointed, nicely furnished and spacious bungalow. You see the owners put a lot of love and attention to detail into it to make it pretty- it even has two nice murals in the living room. The lanai and screened porch were delightful (and great against the occasional mosquito). Air conditioning and numerous fans throughout the house were very welcome but AC not really needed at night. The kitchen is very well equipped and we enjoyed cooking a meal or two and using the BBQ outside. So convenient to use the washer and dryer if you’re on a longer stay! Everything was provided - even toiletries, hair driers, sun screen etc!
Minor drawbacks was that the master bed is comfortable a bit squeaky and the roosters in the neighborhood starting at 3:30 am each morning- but hey it’s Kauai and we got used to them. The location is great for exploring the south west shore of Kauai, like Polihale beach, Saltpond beach park or going up to Weimea canyon. no ago early to beat the crowds and clouds. Great hikes up there!! It’s about a 35-40 min drive to Po’ipu beaches on the South shore. Shopping opportunities at nearby Waimea. Definitely recommend this property!

The house was so cute. The beds are comfortable and we had everything we needed. The kitchen was so easy to navigate and had an amazing variety of utensils, pots and pans. Liz and Chad were super helpful. It's a beautiful area and there's always something to do!

This VRBO home is beautiful!! Perfect for a relaxing stay in paradise! House was spotless, beautifully decorated, and has all the appliances and cookware you will need. Location was perfect, with shopping a few miles away. The beach right across the street was great to walk too and watch the gorgeous sunsets! The yard was private and cozy, and the hot tub was an added plus! Liz and Chad were great hosts and attentive to any questions we had.

Greetings! Aloha! Our stay in the Hale Makai happened Feb 4-9 2023. Much to our delighted surprise, the neighborhood, ambiance and location were very secluded, clandestine and BEAUTIFUL. The home has all of the amenities needed for an extended stay. Small lizards, very harmless do get in the laundry room, be aware. We were not afraid of it however. The kitchen had everything needed, included extra tasty spices. Thank you. The floors by and under both beds and back bedroom countertops were rather dusty, my only "sneezing" quip for the cleaning person. We didn't get to use the hot tub sadly. Time. But if we ever come back and we would love to, we will definitely use it. The covered porch was wonderful, great for meditating and relaxing. The bedding was PLUSH and the mattresses felt amazing. I can tell that great attention was put into making this experience like HOME but better. I loved the wool laundry balls as well. I will always cherish my memories in Kekaha Kauai Island of Hawaii. If you are staying in Kekaha make sure you know your way around town, there is no store just around the corner but 2-3 miles away. If you are NOT renting a car, UBER and LYFT rarely come on that side of the island. You will wait for hours or they will cancel the ride. Please rent a car or learn to take the bus. Waimea is a walking town and it's great for exercising and moving about the small city. Go on and explore. We loved being in the Hale Makai home and are grateful for the forever memories.

Chad and Liz have built a gorgeous cottage by the sea. It is exceptionally clean and new, and exceptionally well equipped. It is very private but has a five minute walk to the beach or a five minute drive to Waimea, which is very laid back and funky. We just don’t like the resort vibe in this or any other island, so the house was a perfect fit. Pity about the roosters, but that is Kaua’i. You get used to them. Thanks Chad and Liz. Your place is great.

Liz and Chad have a wonderful place! Clean, modern, and a fully equipped kitchen made this a great place to spend our vacation. Easy beach access, beach chairs and a cooler made for enjoyable sunsets looking over the water. The location is great, away from the more populated tourist areas. Waimea Canyon is just a short drive away, as well as some great hikes. For a more swimmable area, Salt Pond Park is just 10 minutes up the road.

This little house is superb! It has a fabulous kitchen and lanai. I highly recommend it. The West side of Kauai is quiet and low key. We were close to Waimea Canyon and great hiking as well as a wonderful swimming beach in Salt Pond Park.

This is the best VRBO we ever stayed at hands down! Chad and Liz were awesome ( the hosts) and the house and property were incredible! Everything worked properly, we had everything we needed and we truly felt relaxed and comfortable! We were out having adventures everyday and to come home to luxury was exactly what we needed! The place was so clean, amenities were amazing, and we loved the fact there was cleaning supplies to spruce up when needed. The bedding was great, towels nice and fresh, no dust. The AC was a lifesaver when we were home. The house is well insulated so we didn’t need it on all the time while home. The showers are huge, toilets flush good and theirs ceiling fans in each one! Washer/dryer were great! I loved the little stool provided to help me reach into the bottom of the washer, good thinking. EVERYTHING about this place was a winner! Fantastic, clean, spacious property. We have stayed at many VRBO's on Kaua'i over the years, this is by far the best. House is stocked with everything: coffee, laundry, seasonings, cooking utensils, you name it. Hosts are beyond gracious and go the extra mile for a memorable guest experience. Privacy and not cramped like a condo in Poipu. White sand beaches for days :)

Lovely home. Well appointed with full kitchen and accessories. Hot tub. Carport was nice for occasional rains. Isolated quiet beaches are close and easy to walk to. We enjoyed the screened in porch. Very close to Waimea Canyon if you're into hiking. It's a 30 minute drive to Poipu or Lihue, so keep that in mind. This was THE BEST VRBO we have ever stayed at. Beds were comfortable and nicely appointed furniture.

If you want a quiet, cozy home away from the tourists and hustle and bustle this is the place for you!! Amazing location to lots of hiking and port Allen if you have boat trips planned. Not too far to spend a day up on the northern part of the island either! Access to a beach across the street that is quiet and peaceful! House is perfect and hot tub was amazing! Would recommend this place to anyone!

Hale Makai was a wonderful home base for us while we explored the sunny side of Kauai. The home and kitchen are well furnished and comfortable to relax in. We like to cook on vacations and the kitchen had all the pots/pans/tinsels we could ever need. The home also included nice beach chairs, towels, and other beach accessories. The washer and dryer worked great. Grocery stores and restaurants in Waimea were a five minute drive away. Poipu beach was a 30 minute drive and the Kalalau Lookout in Kokee SP was a 45 minute drive. We would happily stay here again.

This cottage was perfect for our regular canyon exploration. Enabled us to get up to the overlooks just after sunrise, before anyone else. Unsurpassed views and a few hikes were easily within reach. For the most attractive beaches, we headed east, to Salt Pond and, later, to the north shore (Princeville).
This cottage is clean, spacious, and well appointed. Description is accurate, and Jessica was lovely to work with.
No views from our home, so we’d roll a bit down the road to Waimea (Chicken in a Barrel) for stunning sunsets. It all worked beautifully for us!

As a place to stay, this home rates a 5 star. It was very clean, excellent furniture, comfortable beds, nice linens, good tv. The kitchen is very well equipped which we appreciated as we cooked every day of our weeklong stay. It was nice to have a few basics like salt, pepper. Especially loved the Keurig! Everything is in good working order. We did appreciate have all the laundry and dishwasher detergents as well as the TP and paper towels. It is also pretty close to Waimea Canyon. Convenient to a grocery store as well.
The downsides of this home are that is is close to the road so you get a bit of traffic noise sitting on the lanai especially in the AM. Also, the beach across the street is not the prettiest beach…need to drive 30 minutes to get to a beach to swim/relax. There’s not really an area to go for a nice stroll. But having said this, you would pay 3x the amount for a similar place near Poipu Beach. I can’t emphasize that enough. This home is a very good value…so comfortable and well appointed. And the communication with the host was good.

This house has all the comforts for vacation relaxation. The kitchen is set up for cooking from the pots and pans, knives and utensils to the range and other appliances. Beds are just right and showers are hot. Nothing is lacking. A giant television is here for those evenings after a full day at the beach or trails.

Loved this little house. It’s in an area that is not as crowded with tourists, yet it is close to Waimea Canyon, Kekaha Beach Park, Salt Pond Beach and Poipu beach. Loved the lay out of the house. Air conditioners worked well and beds were comfy. Hot tub was perfect. Would come back in a heartbeat!

Great location for hikers. 40 min drive up Waimea Canyon gives you access to many trails. Secluded local surfing spot 5-10 min drive toward Waimea off highway. You’ll see the cars parked on side of road. Secluded hot tub in backyard lets you unwind after the day’s adventures. Great house for small family.
