vrKCV - Kona Bay Estates Hale Kai Olu, Professionally Managed by Kona Coast Vacations

Welcome to Hale Kai Olu – A Classic Oceanfront Retreat

Peaceful, private, and truly special, Hale Kai Olu is a custom-built oceanfront home in Kailua-Kona that feels like a real home—not a resort. Set within a gated oceanfront community with 24-hour security, this well-loved property offers generous space, direct shoreline access, and sweeping ocean views toward Kona Village.

While the community itself is gated, beaches in Hawaiʻi are public by law. Guests enjoy easy access to the shoreline and can walk along the coast while still benefiting from the privacy, security, and quiet atmosphere of this unique neighborhood.

The true value of Hale Kai Olu lies in its unbeatable oceanfront location, spacious layout, and serene surroundings. It's an ideal choice for guests looking for an authentic Hawaiʻi experience—one rooted in comfort, character, and a deep connection to the ocean rather than a modern resort-style stay.

This home has been cherished by the same family for many years and was where the owners raised their children. Designed by an architect known for capturing the island's natural trade winds, the home stays comfortable most of the year with only rare need for air conditioning. These walls have seen laughter, celebrations, and countless sunsets, and now the home is ready to welcome guests to create their own memories. Experience the charm of early 2000s Hawaiian architecture in this meticulously maintained custom-built family home. Hale Kai Olu offers the perfect blend of modern comfort, spacious functional design, and timeless charm, featuring a bright open-concept floor plan, generous room sizes, and original one-of-a-kind artisanal koa wood details throughout.

The house was clean and in great condition. The location is private, close to the Keiki pond and has stunning views of the ocean as well as Kona. All in all very good value. One note, the pool is very deep, 6/7’, and does not have a section that’s shallow. We had toddlers and young kids so we had to be hyper vigilant around the pool. Also the hot tub is only heated for three hours out of the day, from 6-9pm. There is no access to the controller.

This property was just right for our family of 10 ranging in age of 3-68! Pool/hot tub was a highlight for us all. Keiki beach a short walk away. House was just the right size for all to have privacy and togetherness.

Our family absolutely loved this home!! A beautiful relaxing “home” that you will not want to leave. Only disappointment was a broken hammock and the photos showed 2 as well (only 1 & broken). The home has an amazing layout and accommodates a large family/group very well.

First of all, my family and I really enjoyed our time at the property. We were there for a variety of occasions including anniversaries, birthdays, and my recent retirement. We had nine people ranging from us, the grandparents, to children aged eight to 18 months. The home and it's ohana (guesthouse), easily accommodated the group. The home itself was functional, but the the staged photos on the website are much nicer than we experienced. In addition, the ohana needed to be cleaned when we arrived. They supplied plenty of towels, the kitchen well stocked, but very dated. The location was incredible, and made it easy to overlook some of the challenges and the management company was very attentive to all of our needs.

We spent a long time dreaming of our family’s week in this home, based on the description there was a lot to be excited about! It was better than described. The house was beautiful and clean and somehow bigger than described. There was plenty of space for our multigenerational family of 8. There is a gorgeous beach that you can walk to, but honestly I’d have been happy to never leave the property, some in our party hardly did. Sitting outside looking at the water, the air smells of flowers. Its heavenly. Highly recommend.

Our extended family of eight enjoyed this property immensely! It is situated on the oceanfront with a gorgeous ocean view and has a Sandy little beach with a hammock which the kids loved playing in with their sand toys. There is a short walking wall before you get to the oceanfront. The wall is a one and a half mile walk which we enjoyed doing every day. The kids enjoyed the pool, and the adults enjoyed the spa in the evenings between six and eight when it was heated. There is a beautiful covered lanai which we enjoyed throughout the day. There is a closet right there on the patio that has beach and pool toys, and chairs for your use. This house has a very well stocked kitchen. There are pots and pans, utensils, glasses and dishes galore. The living room is very large with enough Seating for all of us. With the way the bedrooms are situated and the guest house as an additional sleeping area, we were all able to spread out and not get in each other’s way. There are six possible sleeping rooms on this property. Five of them are absolutely perfect. One of them on the main level has a double bed but is a very warm room. We utilized the attached bathroom but not the bed. All other bedrooms are great! We love that this property is within walking distance to historic Kailua-Kona district (if you have no mobility issues.). We loved Kai’s Eats and Huggo’s, both oceanfront. We enjoyed lunch at Kona brewing which has a tropical garden outdoor eating area. 5 star property in all!

The decor was amazing! The pool is smaller than it appears in the photos but we really enjoyed this home.

The location of this house is perhaps the best you can find. Within the gated community, on the ocean and walking distance from town... just not sure you can find this combo anywhere else. We were a group of colleagues who enjoyed our stay here. The sunsets on the back porch or from the pool were epic. Note to future guests, what appears to be a hot tub in the photos is actually only heated for two hours (6-8pm) a day. We'd definitely come back!

Our stay at this beautiful property was a dream come true! There were nine adults and one toddler and not once were we lacking for space. We took full advantage of the outdoor pool area, the bbq and the nearby Keiki beach. Each morning we were in the pool around 7 am , we went sightseeing after breakfast and returned in the afternoon to go back in the pool or to the beach and cooked dinner for everyone in the well stocked kitchen. We got the chance to get to know our new Australian ohana and celebrate all of us being together. What a memorable vacation! Thank you for the chance to let us come together under your roof and to enjoy the island of Hawaii!

We stayed with another family whilst fishing a tournament that left everyday from the local pier. We happily and easily walked it which made life so much easier! You can walk easily to the main street of restaurants but UBERS were also very easy to get. The house was spoilt for choice with rooms. We did find the downstairs bedroom allthough large in itself the bed size was more like a double. Not a queen. The pool and proximity to the beach is definitely the highlight! Kitchen is well equipped just needs some sharp knives or steak knives! We also only found a few pool towels which they requested you use over the bathroom towels (there were plenty of those!) Lastly it has a "hot tub" but it doesnt get hot! The property is in a gated community and makes you feel so safe. We really did have such a good time and we would go back in a heartbeat.

As a family of eight, ranging in age from age 2 to 63, we all enjoyed the house, its pool, hot tub, reefs and location to the tide pools. The house is also conveniently located to nearby stores and restaurants. This large house had enough comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, including a detached Ohana. The great room was a wonderful gathering place, and right off the dining room and kitchen so we could all be together when we wanted, but rooms to retreat to for quiet time. The house is lovely and well appointed for every visitors' needs. The A/C worked well, and ceiling fans made our nights very comfortable. The best part of the house is its location. The sunsets were amazing and we will cherish the memories we made, especially since we all live in different parts of the world today and our time together is precious. We would recommend this house for any large family or group. We also appreciated the help from the house's management company's concierge, David, who helped us arrange special family events, such as family pictures, a private chef and excursions. We hope you enjoy your vacation as much as we did. Mahalo and Aloha!

This home was even more welcoming and spacious than the listing conveys. Comfortable, spacious and well apportioned, and it’s beach side location is perfect - a feeling of your own “private beach” within a gated community, and the convenience of nearby shops and restaurants.

Our 9 member 3 generation family was celebrating 3 graduations. Great amenities and location. We especially enjoyed to pool right at ocean front, the fireworks viewing from the deck and the beautiful sunsets from the front wall. KVC responded promptly to any concerns we had, which were minor.

This was our dream to bring our family to Hawaii. We chose this home because we were sure we could walk to town, being on the beach, having a pool, plenty of bathrooms and bedrooms for the 10 of us. Would love to do it again!

The home was everting we expected based upon the information and pictures. There were 8 of us and we were all comfortable in the home. Well stocked kitchen for meals and new Weber Grill for BBQ. Pool was great and the spa was heated from 5 to 8 each evening which was perfect for our group. High chair was a bonus and saved renting one. We did rent a playpen but there is one at the house which we did not know. Lots of pool stuff, and beach items though all of these things were not promised. Ideal location and home for family or say 3 couples to stay at and great location in Kona itself.

It was hard to leave the property because the view, sandy beach and patio were so perfect! The house is warm, somewhat eclectic and great for 5 couples. Everyone had space to roam or be together. My only complaint is the beds were a little small in some of the bedrooms for two adults.

January 2023
Outstanding location on the point that allows fantastic morning sunrises over the mountain, afternoon whale spotting and amazing sunsets! Walk to town or to the old airport beach Only disappointed with the outdoor furniture which needs to be updated to really match the rest of the house and views. The first day we went to Cotsco and bought some beach chairs to use. The main upstairs bedroom has fabulous deck but poor furniture again so can’t really use it to take advantage of the beautiful views .

Really fine. Biggest problem: entrance through the gate and very unhelpful guards. This detracted from the overall stay.

The gate staff is great, beautiful sunsets. We could see the glow from the Volcano at night. House was very equipped. Check the door by the pool for lots of beach stuff. I would totally stay here again. Love it

Our family enjoyed the beautiful home in the incredible location quite a lot. The property management was very responsive when we had questions. We would recommend the home. One thing: I wish we had thought to walk to town along the ocean before the last day.

We absolutely loved this property. The house is huge and wonderfully decorated. It’s very comfortable and was stocked very well. The location can’t be beat and having the ocean, a pool, and spa was awesome. Sunsets from the lanai’s we’re amazing. There was 9 adults in our group and we had plenty of room. The house is so close to Ali’i Drive and to everything Kailua-Kona has to offer. We would stay here again. Mahalo Nui!

My family had not been all together for 5 years, we had a wonderful time. The house was beautiful and the location was perfect. We enjoyed the pool, the beach, especially the sea turtle that was in the pool on the beach and just hanging out on the property!

This house is in a perfect spot to get to things: to shop, to drive to visit sights, and to enjoy the amazing ocean vista. It also is a popular location for cruise ships, so you will be treated to comings and goings of various ginormous boats parked in the ocean in front of the house. There is also a snorkeling lagoon steps from the house, which was wonderful for the beginner snorkelers in our group. The house is very spacious and generous in space, 8 adults had plenty of room. Wonderful kitchen and seating areas with a huge tv. We ate all of our meals on the lanai with the fabulous ocean view. Some problems: the room over the garage is not up to par, both the sink and bathtub did not drain and the mattress should be replaced. The kitchenette was not outfitted as stated, so we had to bring things over from the main kitchen. Also the hot tub does not work. I called the office and they said it was NOT a hot tub, but a spa. (The listing had an icon indicating there was a hot tub.) She said a timer makes it warm 4 hours a day, but that was not true. One day the pool guy came and turned it on for us, so we did have one day with a 104 degree hot tub, but it never worked again after that. We were very disappointed in this because one of the reasons we chose this listing was for the hot tub. Since we payed a lot for 11 nights, we expected everything to work. All in all, it is a beautiful house in a great location, but we would probably not rent there again.

Everything about our rental and experience at this house was perfect. The house had an ideal amount of space for 7 of us (aged 18-87) to both interact and relax alone. The location is close to shopping and dining, and Keiki Beach is just steps away. We saw whales and dolphins from the lanais and plenty of tropical fish in the ponds. Sunset from this location is amazing too. The house was well outfitted for cooking in, and there are myriad towels for sunbathing and beach time. Would return in a heartbeat. Thank you!!!

This property is exceptionally well placed. The keiki pond and nearness to the coastline is parallel to none and everything thing is close by. The house is comfortable. Beds are comfortable and there was plenty of space for our extended family of 9. We are going through withdrawal!!!

This home in Kona Bay Estates was everything I could have dreamed of and exactly what was listed. The location is great being within walking-distance of restaurants, shops, and any needs you may have while staying. It is right next to the Kekei Ponds which are shallow Todd pools with aquatic life life at low tide a day shallow part of the ocean at high tide…absolutely amazing! You have @ 230 degree ocean views from the point next to the hammocks. The home is part of a gated/secure community. It is very spacious with more than enough room for the 9 people (2 families) that stayed. The kitchen has everything you may need for cooking and hosting. A majority of our time was spent at the outdoor lanai and hammocks soaking up the sun and surrounding ocean sounds and views. We were truly amazed by this home and have already been dreaming of our next stay here. Book this home if it is available…
