This studio is clean but is furnished with thrift store purchases: furniture, artwork, kitchen etc. - which is okay as long as it is in line with your expectations. A pro for me was the large bath tub. I had a lot of trouble getting in due to being given an old code. I wasn’t familiar with the tow of lock box so at first I thought that was the problem. Then it was getting dark and my cell phone was losing charge. The whole process took 30-40 minutes and was unpleasant. Landlord did call me back after I was inside. Said he was in a snowstorm somewhere. It would have been good to have more instructions on various things, such as the lock, recycling, washing machine, tv etcAs others have said, the outdoor eating space is horrendous. There are broken chairs, water rubbing into the space from somewhere and the large “planters” that contain the big plants surrounding the space are rotting and falling apart. All in all, there is the feeling of him an absentee landlord who really doesn’t care. However the location is so convenient to the beach and is in a friendly neighborhood which gave a great tone to my visit.

First impression was a disgusting “patio” area between the parking area and entrance. broken, dirty cement, planter that was literally falling down with dead foliage. Far from the misleading photo of the area that was taken from the parking area. Table that was filthy, chairs the same, one partially broken. We found that this was the only table for eating, unless we wanted to hunch over the coffee table in the living room, while sitting on the couch and the only upholstered chair, which had a thick blanket on it to (unsuccessfully) attempt to protect your butt from the nasty springs in the seat that made sitting on it very unpleasant. The microwave had a tag inside indicating it was made in 2006, and it looked like it. Gross, with very difficult to understand controls. No oven, as the 19 year old microwave was supposed to function as an oven. 2 burners in the counter top. Toaster worked but was just gross with burned on butter or something all over the top. First frying pan out of the cupboard had dried food stuck to it. Bugs constantly in the kitchen. Yes, it’s Hawaii, but this was the 6th VRBO we have used in the islands, and the only one that was buggy. Dish ware was very minimal, but sufficient for the 2 of us. The bathtub had nothing in it or that we could find to prevent falls, so we placed a towel in the tup for safety when we showered. BASIC cleanliness was not a problem. It appeared that the cleaning person did the best she could.I HAVE PHOTOS.

This rental is nothing fancy- very baseline and bare-minimum kitchen supplies. Things aren't sparkling clean, but I think that is a product of it being Hawaii where things wear down fast. We also saw some ants and cockroaches, but that's just Hawaii.

Location is just around the corner from a Sunset Beach access, which makes for AMAZING sunset watching at night. Super cool neighborhood. Very close to Ted's Bakery, which was great to get something to eat.
Could use some minor updates, and a good deep cleaning, but cleanliness was not an issue. Overall, GREAT stay, and would recommend!

Good location. Inside the unit was clean and well stocked. Furniture was uncomfortable, especially the large chair because the springs or something was broken. We did not use the patio because it was filthy and planter boxed unkempt and broken. Outside furniture was awful and dirty. Ground uneven so you must be careful walking through patio and in and out of unit. My husband fell out there and really got banged up on his face, hand, arm and leg and was very bloody. Thank goodness he didn't break anything. If the patio was taken care of so you could enjoy the area and the furniture more updated we would have absolutely loved the place. Great location and clean inside!!

DO NOT stay at this property. For the 12 hours that we stayed (out of the week that was booked), here are the problems that we experienced:
1. Cockroaches - one in the coffee pot, one in the bathroom, and an inch-long one that was running all over the place. (I have a video of this one.)
2. 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 1 wash cloth, and 2 beach towels for an entire week's stay.
3. Refrigerator was dirty and rusty.
4. Outdoor patio was disgusting - needed a good cleaning with a pressure washer.
5. The bathroom cabinets were filled to the brim with every shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, sunscreen, etc that every guest for the last 3 years had left...so much so that there was no room for our stuff.
6. No washer/dryer in the unit as described in the listing.
7. Communication with property owner Mike was less than stellar - we asked for a refund since we did not want to stay in a roach-infested property - his response - you read the reviews and it's Hawaii.
If you are looking for a roach-infested bachelor pad, this is your place. If not, book somewhere else!

The windows were all open when we arrived very dark unit.The property smelt strong of mold and mildew. Was unable to correct with air conditioner on seemed to make it worse. Tried to contact property manager by phone no answer and by text no answer for a long time. We started to get headaches and felt like there would be problems with breathing so deciced it was in our best interest not to stay there. Property manager finally texted us back very unpleasant and unprofessional response. Outside of the property was unkept. Worked lots of extra hours to pay for our vacation. No refund from owner. VRBO wanted pictures of mold and mildew can't take picutres of a smell so no refund. Definitely wasn't what we thought we rented.

This was a great little studio in a quiet north shore neighborhood. It's a quick 1 block walk to sunset beach and about the same distance to Ted's bakery. The place was easy to find thanks to the colorful gate and was clean when we arrived. There were basic cooking utensils and a 2 burner electric stove top (no oven). We rarely used the AC as there was a good breeze through the windows. There were also an assortment of beach chairs and snorkeling gear under the stairs to the right of the covered lanai. Overall it was a great value for a fun north shore vacation.

This studio unit was the perfect quiet waystation to adventure on the North Shore. It's definitely not The Ritz, but you will have everything you need in an awesome location. The unit was very clean, just a walk to beautiful Sunset Beach, another short walk to the delicious Ted's Bakery, and a very short drive to Waiamea Valley.

This little studio is exactly as described, very clean, and in a great location. It’s about 2 blocks from a great beach with tons of other beaches up and down the main road. It’s about 15 minutes to lots of food options plus a few others are close by. Ted’s Bakery was fantastic! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Very lovely clean apartment, for the two us it was perfect. Located in a quiet residential area on the North Shore we found it was in a nice location for us as we try to stay out of the city. Self checkin was great as our flight was delayed by 7 hours and we landed much later after 9pm and didn’t arrive to the unit till almost 11pm. Very few staples in the cupboard, we didn’t do any cooking in the unit but still had to get some sugar for our morning coffees. The walking distance to Teds Bakery is a gem, we got donuts and baked goods every morning and sat outside and enjoyed our treats. The walk to sunset beach is lovely each morning as well.
Also very much appreciated the A/C right by the bed, that was definitely used by us each night for comfortable sleep and even in the mornings as we got ready for the day.
Communication with the host was easy, we had a question about garbage and where to dispose of it and he answered right away.
Would definitely recommend to stay here if you are planning time on the North Shore.

This is a perfect location - 2 blocks from the beach and 2 blocks from Ted's Bakery. Private lanai was great for coffee in the morning and dinner in the evening. We walked to the beach every evening to watch the surfers and the sunset. Accommodations are as described, neighborhood has a quiet island vibe, Pupukea and Haleiwa are fun to explore. Highly recommend this great property!

The outlet in the bathroom didn’t work, making it hard to blow dry and style my hair. Property manager offered a small mirror to be used by another outlet in the apartment. Lighting issues were also apparent because not all light switches worked.

Love the beach , was not crowded, almost like having your own private beach and about two minutes walk to get there. Across from Ted’s bakery, close to Haleiwa, not far from Waimea falls. This was a back unit.. very small & VERY dark.... with a musty dank smell. I was so disappointed especially when I saw the upstairs unit which is gorgeous perfect & wonderful. That's the one I wished I had and I was disappointed. This is why I think people must read reviews ...
I only saw a negative review right before my departure and realized that I probably wasn't going to be very happy. The owner was out of town and unreachable. II had to call his maid several times... she was very sweet.
I couldn't initially get into the old lock box to get the keys out for 45 minutes.. And there were no directions for the TV, Netflix, cable etc. ., and I could not get it to work. I had to use the restroom upstairs because I couldn't get into the unit downstairs. I wish I had known about that unit because I booked a long time ago and I would have booked that one!! It was only a few dollars more per night... It was so disappointing to me.

We booked this unit for three nights, but we left after two, at considerable expense.
The first thing we noticed upon entering was the smell. It was musty—it smelled moldy and damp. We were attending a wedding the next day, and we hesitated leaving our wedding clothes inside lest they pick up the smell. Running the air conditioner and opening all the windows helped a little, but we still we woke up with raspy throats. (And we tested ourselves and are negative for Covid). If we turned off the AC and went out for a few hours, the musty odor returned.
The next issue is that the place is very dark. The windows are very small. If you look at the indoor photos of the unit, all the lights are on. You shouldn’t need the lights on in the daytime. The owner knew one of the lights had burned out and had not fixed it.
When we cooked a meal, we realized there was no table inside. The outside table and chairs were damp if it had rained recently, and they were next to the parked cars. Not very romantic! You couldn't have your meal inside without balancing your plate on your knees.
We asked the owner to refund us for the last night, but he declined. We left anyway.
It appeared to be a converted garage. It was not a pleasant place to be. We would never recommend it to anyone.

Great house and location. Sunset beach is 1/4 mile walk which was great for the surf competition (we didn't plan the vacation for the surf competition but loved that it was there and was able to walk and watch). Public beach access is even closer. The house was a perfect fit for our getaway. Adequate cookware to prepare meals. The neighborhood was very quiet at night.

My sister and family rented a property on the beach and this was a block away. I was helping with her 1 year old and this was a life saver. No stairs and minimal items to get into. Easy access to beach. This was exactly as advertised. Would stay again.

If you want a laid back area away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki- this place is where to be-quiet, beach is 5 min walk and not crowded., lots of surfers. Gated parking in front of the unit, which is a plus. Teds Bakery is a 5 min walk, Haleiwa is not to far with great restaurants. Had a malfunction with the AC, but Mike got right back to us on that.

I was optimistic when renting the condo and even paid for 4 days when the 2 days I wanted were not available. Unfortunately, there was an overpowering perfume smell, no toiletries except some left from previous renters, mold on bathroom caulking, and no washcloths. I didn't even shower there. Great location and easy access to all the north shore beaches and hikes. This was a welcome relief from the crowds in town and all the crowded beaches on the west side and around Waikiki. I would definitely recommend staying here if you’re looking for a quieter more relaxing vacation.

My husband and I arrived at the check in time (3:00) and found that the rental had not been cleaned. I emailed, called and texted the owner and was initially unable to reach him. He called back approximately one hour after the check in time and told me the cleaner had inadvertently not been scheduled, and would be coming shortly. She arrived around 4:30, and we went to the beach while she cleaned, returning after sunset, at which time we moved into the rental. I understand that mistakes can happen, and the owner made the situation right when he was made aware of it. I was a little surprised, however, that he didn't follow up with us to make sure the issue was rectified and everything was okay.
We have rented many places through VRBO over the years, including several in Hawaii, and one in the very same area, so have a good frame of reference. On the positive side, the home was spacious for a studio, nicely furnished and had a well-stocked kitchen. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioner was quiet. It was in a great location very close to a beautiful, almost private beach.
The biggest negative was the outdoor space. It had the potential to be nice, but was not a pleasant place to sit and have coffee or eat a meal, which was what we were hoping to do. The lanai was dirty and needed to be cleaned, and there were several dirty boards in the corner covering (I presume) a muddy patch. The furniture was mismatched and several of the chairs were very old and had threadbare cushions. Another negative was a musty odor in the unit that did seem to go away when the air conditioner was turned on. It should also be noted that the battery on the smoke detector had been removed and the screen door had a rip.
Overall we had a nice time, but I would hesitate to recommend this property to anyone that was planning to spend any time there enjoying the outdoor space.

Our 25th wedding anniversary was made even more special by stay at this wonderful VBRO setup with everything near the North Shore. The location was within a short walk to the beach. Mike has this rental set up so all you need to do is bring your own food and relax. Beautiful decorations, gated driveway, separate wash area for when you return from the beach beside the full bathroom made this a treasured rental that we plan on using again the next time we return to the island.

We loved our time on the north shore and enjoyed our little home away from home that this place was. It was spacious enough to make our 2 week stay comfortable and the complex was quiet and in a great location. The kitchen was well equipped with lots of utensils, crockery and utensils. It was nice to have that outdoor area out the front and was a great place to dry towels and bathers after the beach. We would recommend this place to others.

The place we rented to stay on the North shore was very nice. Great bed, nice bathroom, free laundry, very close to the beach, close to food trucks, grocery store and bakery, as well as being in a quite and safe neighborhood. We all enjoyed our 3 days there as there was lots to do and see in the area. Very nice area on Oahu.
