North shore:
No less an authority than National Geographic just called it 'one of the wonders of the world - one of Earth's most awesome places' and respected travel journalists are now referring to it as 'the fabled shore.' Separated from Waikiki by a scenic hour's drive and the Ko'olau Range, a fragmented remnant of a massive prehistoric volcano, the North Shore has remained a non-fiction Shangri-La that is one of Hawaii's last remaining places that is entitled to call itself authentic. If you want to discover another side of Hawaii, this is it.
On The North Shore, Locals Measure The Hours, The Days And The Seasons Of The Year In Terms Of Tides, Waves, Winds And Weather.
Winter seas quickly climb sharply sloping coastal shelves to create colossal waves - at up to 5-storys high they are among the largest and most powerful curtains of water in the world. For surfers and their global followers this 7-mile stretch of white sand beaches possesses its own heroes, legends and icons. The epic waves, the incredible natural beauty and the friendly people have inspired distinctive music, art, photography, filmmaking and even food that are uniquely part of the North Shore vibe.
Meanwhile, On A Hilltop High Above Ocean, An Ancient Temple Overlooks Waimea Bay.
The temple is a national landmark and it, along with hidden valleys, secret trails and lush sanctuaries protecting more than 5,000 exotic and endangered wildlife species give us a completely different perspective not only of the North Shore but also of all Hawaii. The North Shore grabs almost everyone and never lets go. It is that memorable.
The North Shore Is The Life Of The Supreme Athlete
It is also the home of the Polynesian Culture Centre and Turtle Bay, the North Shore’s only destination resort. But much more than that, it is a community of people – native Hawaiians and generations of migrants who came in search of Eden and who know the fabled North Shore in all its intricacies and who welcome those who come here to understand and soak up the specialness of it.
Wildlife
turtle Bay Is Often Visited By Several Different Marine Mammals And Endangered Species. It Is Always A Treat To See Them On Our Shores But Please Follow The Law. Keep Your Distance And Respect These Amazing Creatures. Do Not Touch Them, Harass Them Or Feed Them. Enjoy Their Presence From A Distance.

Kohola (Humpback Whales)
Humpback whales visit the waters along Turtle Bay Resort beginning each year in November and can be seen through April, with the peak of the season being from January to March. Turtle Bay Resort is located in the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary which encompasses approximately 1,218 square nautical miles of coastal and ocean waters around the main Hawaiian Islands. Turtle Bay is pleased to work with the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, which protects the winter breeding, calving and nursing range of the largest remaining population of the endangered humpback whale.
Honu (Sea Turtle)
The two types of sea turtles most frequently observed at Turtle Bay are the green sea turtle and the hawksbill sea turtle. The green sea turtle is listed as a threatened species under federal and state law. Hawaiian green sea turtles have shown a good population recovery in recent years, although they are still plagued with a papilloma virus that causes disfiguring tumors. Hawksbill sea turtles are sighted much less frequently than the greens. Honu are spotted on every kayak tour. After all it isn't called Turtle Bay for nothing.

‘Ilio-holo-i-ka-uaua (Monk Seal)
Hawaiian monk seals are among the most critically endangered mammals in the world. Only about 1,200 seals are alive today. There is a small and growing population of seals in the main Hawaiian Islands and a 2005 survey observed 76 seals here. Monk seals frequently haul-out on our shorelines to rest and molt. They may look sick, but they are usually perfectly healthy. Beaches at Turtle Bay are isolated from large human populations and are a favorite haul-out location for these critically endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals. Turtle Bay Resort takes extra precausions to make sure these wonderfull animals are left alone and are treated with respect.

Nai`a (Dolphin)
Whales and dolphins are highly perceptive of their surrounding environment. Dolphins are often found playing with inanimate objects, both in captivity and in the wild. They have frequently been seen using plastic bags, pieces of seaweed or any other debris as objects to toss around, drag off one’s pectoral fins or flukes, and exchange with other members. Such observations are suggestive of playing games similar to our version of “tag” or “catch”. Play in animals is a way of learning or practicing important life skills.

Kuilima Estates is a wonderful property, adjacent to golf course, short walk to the shoreline, very well taken care of and manicured. This unit was perfect for our family of 5. We were very comfortable and enjoyed our trip. The North Shore is a super sweet spot, you won't be disappointed.

Our family of 6 (4 kids 8-15) really enjoyed this condo. We had plenty of space to spread out - we put the 4 kids in the loft. Check in was easy. Location is a 9 min walk to the beaches of turtle bay. Owner has stashed some beach chairs, toys, umbrellas. The unit has an updated master shower, tile flooring throughout the unit. I don't get the past bad reviews. Not sure what others are expecting but it checked everything on our list. Sure it could use a few extra utensils, detergent, etc but whatever. AC unit is portable but open the windows and you'll never need it. Even the loft stayed cool with ventilation and use of the many available fans.

First impression was that the condo was promised for 3pm Check in. It was not ready for us until 6:00 pm which made our arrival with groceries difficult. Second impression was that unlike prior VRBO condos, this had extremely sparse supplies like one tab of soap for the dishwasher, no laundry soap, a couple of small hotel size bars of soap for the bathrooms and very little cutlery. The knives were so dull we had difficulty opening a papaya. There was not knife sharpener. We also thought the Condo was airconditioned and it had one inadequate floor unit in the living room. While some condos come with welcome instructions, etc. This had none.

It should have been obvious from my need to request check-in information the day of arrival that this property would not be as advertised. Washer/Dryer use was not allowed, master bed door had no door handle, no hot pads, only a couple glasses, all beach gear in poor shape. Floors are new and baths are updated. Loft bath light not working. Manager called to check on it but never showed at time agreed upon. Response to my list of concerns was inadequate and only addressed washer. Would not recommend this unit or manger of unit.

Accommodation for 6 in Turtle Bay this was worth every penny. 3 beds, 3 bathrooms all with showers. The property is very much like the photos. Pools are very close, less than 1 min walk. Pools were extremely clean the perfect temperature. This is our 3rd trip to Turtle Bay and the 3rd unit we have booked. It is obvious that some renovations have been done, however some items still need to be replaced. The couch has seen better days, the stove is older with electric coil elements, only 1 of the small elements worked during our stay. The listing said laundry so we ( 4 adults 2 kids) packed very light. When we arrived we found a note that said laundry is for housekeeping only. Do not use! I asked the owner about this and he replied that another guest broke it.. they would be deciding at a later date if they would make it available to guest in the future. The stackable machines that are there are in rough shape and rusty, so I don't think they have much life left. We only looked for places with laundry available so we were not pleased to find out there in fact is no laundry machines available for guests to use. The " deck" or "patio" is off the one bedroom but doesn't offer enough room to sit on, it serves as added storage I guess... There was the usual dust and cobwebs but nothing offensive. Air conditioning is not included, I read that a window unit can be brought in for an added cost. In other units the ceiling fans really help keep the place cool, in this unit however the fans don't work very well. The upstairs loft does not have a light only a couple lamps. There was a box fan set up on the dresser that really did help at night. All of these issues were minor to us and did not affect the enjoyment of our trip. The location is delightfully relaxing, the resort is very close walking distance. There are lots of food trucks nearby, the grocery stores are about 15 mins away in either direction. I am only bringing up the minor issues so that future visitors will be prepared and have realistic expectations. Perhaps you can have the opportunity to address these things with the owner before your stay if they are important to you. I do still believe this unit is a very good value, on a budget this is a very good option. You could get 1 bed in a hotel room 5 mins away for triple the price...

Great place - had a bit of a late check-in, as the house cleaner was still working at 4:30. We opted for the pool, but the key fob did not work to let us in. Otherwise, great stay - lots of beach toys, good location, and ample space. Missing a pizza cutter and a few other kitchen supplies, but otherwise, great stay!

Pros: Owner got back to us very fast. Very friendly and polite. Lots of water equipment to use. Bath and beach towels provided. Pack n play provided upon request as courtesy. New flooring and and bathroom. Cons: Needs a deep clean (baseboards, doors, kitchen). Would have like to known about bug problem before hand. I stayed at turtle bay lay year in a different condo section and did not have a bug problem. Maybe it’s that particular building? Door knobs do not work on almost every door. Got stuck in the master briefly and had to pull the door open by pulling underneath the door.

We left a note for the owner (which we met at the pool) upon our departure with a few suggestions for him. Simple things that he wouldn't have noticed if he didn't live there. Overall, we made everything work and had a great time. The owner was very nice and answered all of our questions before and during our stay. I would go back there.
