We had a wonderful stay at HBR. It was nice to have a mini fridge with a top freezer area and a blender in the condo. The unit itself was not very clean (many many dead bugs all over the windows and ground), and dirty dishes when we arrived, but otherwise nice stay with great amenities and responsive hosts.

The resort itself was a great spot, amazing pool, tennis court and a golf cart shuttle to the beach. I would come back but definitely would not stay at this condo. We were not pleased with the condo. The vent in the bathroom had so much build up dust, it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for years. The condo had a connecting door to a different condo that we were unaware about, which was fine but the door had a huge gap at the bottom. When I say huge, I mean I was able to put my hand underneath and grab our neighbors belongings. We could hear everything that our neighbor was doing as if they were standing right next to us and so we never wanted to be in room or make any noice. I told Kristin (host) about this and her solution was to put a towel underneath the door. Not even a little compensation. We were not happy especially since this was our 1st time in Kauai.

This lock off unit is perfect for couples. Unit has a beautiful view of Hanalei bay. We spent many nights watching the sunset from the lanai. The property is beautiful and lush and perfectly located. We would definitely stay here again in the future!

The grounds of the Hanalei Bay resort were beautiful. The views were great as well as the pool, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The check in fees were steep and the unit itself was extremely dated. In need fo renovations and new furniture especially for the nightly price. The pictures are misleading. Also the unit was not entirely clean and the headboard had a smell that resembled the smell of urine. Would not book again

My husband and I had a great time at the Hanalei Bay Resort! Perfectly located in Princeville, all of the sights and restaurants that we wanted to go to on the north shore were only a short drive away. We also watched the most amazing sunset while staying in this unit!

This site cannot continue to cavalierly have two of its biggest potential attractions for customers, the ONE outdoor warm pool and the ONE breakfast and lunch restaurant, repeatedly unavailable. If they want to be considered a professional tourist attraction, they need to do whatever it takes to procure parts and not be "waiting on them," and especially to NOTIFY customers who have laid out good money and give them an opportunity to cancel. Eleven years later they have not reopened their restaurant! Also, not enough parking for residents as anyone from the island can go to their bar. And the bar restroom has one men's toilet a fairly long walk away. Though the customer service people on site are excellent, these are SERIOUS, EGREGIOUS problems and I can no longer recommend this resort to friends and colleagues.

There were five other people staying at Hanalei Bay Resorts who also got screwed by the lock out units.
Vacation Realty of Hawaii (Stephanie in that office) confirmed that morning of our check in that there was a full kitchen and laundry in the unit. We purchased $200 in groceries.
There wasn't anything to cook with at the grills downstairs and a tiny fridge was all we had. The coffee maker was missing a top so that didn't work. And using a bathroom sink as the only sink...The AC didn't work and the nasty manager at Vacation Realty Hawaii was so unpleasant that we chose to not have anymore interaction with that company.
This all reflects poorly on VRBO. I will never book anything through VRBO in the future.

Great place to stay and the property had several amenities including a great pool area! The unit itself was far from the parking lot and very far from beach access, both paths were pretty steep. We found out after we took all our luggage to the unit and after we walked all the way down to the beach that you can call golf carts to drive you around the property. Once we figured that out it was smooth sailing.

Views from the lanai of Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai are exceptional. The unit itself is a little outdated and could use a little love but it’s totally fine. The resort has a bit of an old-school field and I say that in the best way… We really like this place and would go back. The pool is exceptional

The unit was not clean at all and I have sort of a pet peeve for that - bugs and cobwebs everywhere the balcony had not been cleaned in forever. Which is unfortunate as you’d like to hang out there. It looked like their was mold in the bathroom. The unit does not have any help from the front desk since it’s privately owned and this no fault at all to the owner but good to know that there is an endangered bird nesting under the entrance and the male duck attacks anyone that walks by.

The location of this room was beautiful and had a great view. However, the room itself was very disappointing. It is very old and dated. The ceiling is crumbling in places with mold in the bathroom, mold on the shower curtain, mounds of sand in the corners, and a very musty smell. It could definitely use a lot of work! And it wouldn’t take a lot to make this property much nicer and more appealing. It feels as though zero effort was put in to making this stay welcoming. The amenities at the resort could also use a lot of updating. Check in at the front desk took forever and the line was so long at other times we just never bothered to ask for anything. Bring your own beach towels! They do offer them, but you have to stand in line forever to get them and then you have to physically hand them your old ones in order to get a new one, again, standing in line.

That unit is the very last unit on the property and is furthest from everything, however, that is what made it ideal for us. It was a hike to get to the parking lot and pool, but it was secluded and away from noise. Beautiful views. The carpet is very dated and dirty in places, but it didn't bother us. The gift basket was very nice and the unit had all the essentials for two people. Would definitely stay again.

The location was beyond perfect! The room did smell pretty musty, and the carpet is in poor condition. There also weren’t trash bags provided. The balcony has amazing views, and the resort grounds as a whole were pleasant. The beach is phenomenal! I would definitely stay at this resort again, but I would look into different room options.

Our rental experience was great. The process was very easy from booking to arrival. A lot of great communication. The view from the lanai is stunning. Condo is comfortable and we appreciated having the beach chairs available. Nice welcome treats too. Thank you!
The one caveat I will add and it’s really not terrible is that this condo is located at the very end of the property so it’s a bit of a hike up to the main area of the resort. Not a problem if you’re truly on Hawaii time, but you’ll definitely get your workout! There are golf carts available 24/7 so you don’t have to walk every time, but it requires making a phone call and a tip, of course! Again, not a big deal. It’s about an 8 min walk to the lobby and parking lot. Good for the glutes!

Hanalei Bay Resort is relaxing and mellow. The views are stunning, especially from the balcony in the room. And you are surrounded by beautiful plants and of course the chickens & roosters! We loved the Hanalei and Princeville area. You can walk from the resort to Queens Bath, one of our favorite spots to see. Or grab your towels from the front desk and chill by the pool and definitely try the tacos or poke at the Happy Talk Lounge right at the resort. The room is basic, but comfortable and we do not travel to Kaua'i to stay inside! There's a coffee pot, a small fridge and great beach gear. We loved walking down to the beach and watching the sunset from the boogie boards the room had. Kaua'i is very special and gorgeous! Be prepared to walk a lot and uphill, but the resort offers golf cart rides whenever you need them.

You walk into this studio apartment and see a gorgeous backdrop… then get hit with a dingy and moldy smell permeating from the carpet and condo. Carpet had stains and feels like it has ten years of dust on it. Our bedsheets had hair and numerous small stains on them. Also our towels had stains on every single one. We contacted the property manager and she replied within the day but couldn’t get us clean items until the NEXT DAY… so we put a blanket over the sheets and slept on top. I assume this happens a lot because there is a sign in the room saying “they have the right to fix cleaning issues”. Overall the resort and view is what you are paying for. Condo is gross and not clean!

Nice room with a nice view. A couple of small complaints about the resort. The location is a little ways out of the way. The parking is pretty limited and only one small restaurant is open in the resort (they said the main reastaurant was reopening soon after about 10 years), and many people staying in the neighboring area come to eat here so they use up the parking and there is always a wait at the restaurant that is also open limited hours. My only complaint directly related to the room is that there are signs on the units owned by this company asking to leave your shoes outside. I did so, and in the process of being in our room for about ten minutes my $100 sandals were stolen. We were 99% sure it was a man that was a contracted cleaner for a different unit, owned by someone else, but the resort wasn't really any help in finding out who stole them.

This is our fifth stay at Hanalei Bay Resort but our first in this unit. Everything was perfect from communication with hosts, the room and amenities. They had a wonderful gift box for us as well which came in very handy.
If it's your first time visiting Kauai or returning to paradise this is a perfect spot for you.

This property was amazing and made our stay in Princeville extremely enjoyable. We loved waking up to the views of the ocean every morning and watching the sunset from the lanai. What I wasn't expecting, and could arguably be advertised better on the listing, was the amazing property amenities! Stunning property with beautiful landscaping, 9 tennis courts, private access to the beach via walkable beach path, luxurious pool with hot tub, and a fun bar with really good lava flows!As some other reviews noted, that the property is walking only, and the parking lot is at the entrance. It was maybe a 5 minute walk downhill from the parking lot to the apartment. Wasn't an issue for us but something to note.Highly recommend this listing for a romantic getaway!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed staying here. Hanalei Bay is truly a stunning place and you get an amazing view from the room and lanai. You can even hear the roar of distant big ocean waves (guessing probably not in summer when they’re less big). The room was like a large hotel room, and had a very comfy bed and large high pressure shower. We ate out and didn’t really use the fridge/utensils or beach things for our 2 night stay, so won’t comment on that. Resort is lovely, but just to state what others have: there is a long uphill walk from the condo to the parking lot. The resort offered us a bellman to drive us and our things when we arrived; we just tipped him. I’m not sure I would agree the cancellation policy is super flexible as listed in the title, but it’s clearly described in the listing. Also, there are extra resort and parking fees you pay at check-in to the resort, also described in the listing. They gave us a nice welcome basket with chocolate covered Mauna Loa macadamias, cookies, coffee, and a bottle opener, so that was nice! Overall, we loved our stay and the location and view will probably bring us back.

We were here for 4 days on our honeymoon. This location was perfect. Right down the street (short drive) from grocery store, boutiques, and amazing local eats. We ventured outside of the north shore a few times, but we agreed no part of the island beats the north shore. We were also close to multiple beaches - good for snorkeling, swimming, etc. We loved every second. The grounds at HBR are beautiful. We didn’t use the pool or tennis courts but many other guests seemed to enjoy them! The staff at HBR was also very attentive. The view from the balcony is gorgeous, the room was clean, and we had everything we needed. We would absolutely stay here again.

Would really have appreciated a microwave. The resort is a little heavy-handed with respect to rules and added expenses. For the price of the room, I thought daily "resort fees" and parking were included. They were not. Expect to pay and additional $35 per day.

Room has most essentials, however, we would have liked some pots and pans due to the full kitchen that is available near the secondary pool area where the grills are. We had a nice stay here - it was one of the few units left for our dates. Overall the unit is just fine - bed is comfortable, has the usual amenities, bathroom is large, the lanai is great and so is the view! I read some of the reviews before we booked and some folks mentioned that it's a bit of a hike up and down hill from the parking lot. While that's true, we didn't think it was that bad (though if you have any health/mobility issues I would not recommend booking this particular room because you'll definitely get a little bit of a workout walking from the unit to the parking lot.My only comment is that we wished the cleaning crew spent a little more time focusing on dust and mold in the unit. We know that Hawaii is wet and mold grows very easily but we were surprised to see some parts of the bathroom and ceiling clearly in view have mold that I think could have been cleaned up with some bleach. Since we were only staying there for 2 nights it didn't bother me that much but if we were there longer I would have been a bit concerned about inhaling mold spores while sleeping. We did mention to the front desk that there were some parts of the unit that are due for a bit of a deeper clean. Aside from that, we'd stay at the resort again!

The view is amazing and the facilities at the resort are wonderful.
Things to keep in mind are that the place doesn't have any microwave. There is a minifridge and simple things for cutting or making tea/coffee are available. For longer stays this might not be ideal. Our family was nearby in a bigger condo, so we tended to gather there for meals if we didn't eat out. Parking fees and resort fees are not included and will be about 28 more per day.

This room had a breathtaking view, that in itself was worth staying here. The bed was very comfortable, the AC worked great, the shower was nice and big. The only thing that is a slight con is that whenever you want to go up to the main pool or restaurant, you have to walk up a big hill, but it was definitely worth the walk. The resort forgot to give us our keys when we're checked in, so they then had to have someone drive them to us. Luckily they have golf carts all over ready to take you wherever you want to go! I 100% recommend this place to anyone. I'm currently planning a surprise trip for my parents and am hoping the room is available.

Hanalei Bay was beautiful! The resort is just like it looks in pictures. I booked it mainly because of how the pool looked online and it definitely lived up to expectations. Check-in was easy and everyone working there was friendly. If you stay in buildings at the bottom of the resort, take advantage of the 24/7 golf cart service to the parking lot, especially a lifesaver when checking out. As for the condo itself, the lanai and the building were nice. The view from 7201 was excellent and seemed closer than in pictures. The inside of the room was a little old, but functional. The biggest issue we had was bugs. We didn’t keep any food in the room, but when I woke up in the middle of night two, there were roaches on the bathroom floor. My husband made us keep the light on in the bathroom for the rest of the stay and that completely solved the problem. To save on electric, that issue should be taken care of asap. The only other issue we had was on checkout day. Our scheduled time to checkout was 10:00am, but the cleaner walked in our condo at 8:30. We showed her the sign in the room that said 10:00 and she said the owners told her we were leaving the day before. Easy fix, but we didn’t expect company at 8:30am. I would stay in the resort again, even though it is quite a drive to Lihue. If you want to eat, the closest places are in Hanalei, but most close at 9pm. We had a relaxing stay on the north side and look forward to returning.

Stayed 2 nights at the Hanalei Bay Resort as part of my honeymoon. The resort itself is absolutely incredible with stunning views all over! The pool and hot tub are amazing at the resort, it is a short 8 minute drive to Hanalei Bay, surrounding restaurants, and other water activities. The room had a spectacular view of the mountains overlooking the bay. The shower was very nice, but the only negative comment I have is that the carpet needs to be replaced as it smelled kind of musty in the room. Other than that my experience was outstanding and I definitely will come back!

This was such a nice private location. The downside is that it is far from the entrance to the resort (however, they did offer to golf cart us if we needed a lift). The room was clean with plenty of supplies to make the stay more comfortable.
The resort itself is relaxed and fairly updated. I do wish the pool had waitstaff that came around while at the pool for food and drinks.
The towel policy of 1 per person but can swap out anytime was fine - I would have preferred 2 per person.
The staff was very friendly around the resort. However, the bar and restaurant staff was not as friendly - definitely not rude but not as upbeat.
If I were to want to stay in Princeville again, I would definitely stay here.

The end unit location was exception along with the view. We liked how you converted one side of the closet into a coffee bar area. The view is spectacular. The carpet however was significantly stained and the screen door was very difficult to open. Aside from those two repairable things the unit was perfect.

The unit we rented was perfect for our return to Hanalei Bay Resort! Although it was the farthest from the parking lot, we loved the privacy and direct view of the Bay and Bali Hi!!

A very nice place for 1-2 people. The facility was low key and the pool was amazing. The newly remodeled bar/grill was also very nice - great place to catch a sunset, watch some sports and listen to some local live music. I liked that Hanalei Bay was a pleasant facility but not pretentious or stuffy. The staff were easy-going and friendly. The neighborhood it was in was a bit high-end for my taste (Princeville) with all the golf courses and stuff - we parked on the street for a few minutes and got notes on our car about the housing association strict rules about parking and they fined us $50. But besides that, great place to watch sunsets and walk down to the St Regis beach. The room itself was perfect for what I needed - yes it'd be nice to have a full kitchen, and the walls were thin (you could hear what was going on next door), but the view was incredible, and it had a very homey feeling. I would definitely stay again all things considered and was happy with my time there. Thank you!

Small studio unit, perfect for two people who are out most of the day. Nice granite counter tops and shower. Balcony makes this room. Balcony has excellent view yet is private--no one else can see balcony from other rooms. Love the HBR pool and hot tub.
This unit is at the bottom of a pretty steep hill, so be prepared to hike up when you need to go anywhere--parking lot, swimming pools, tennis courts, front desk, etc. Air conditioner went out but thankfully was fixed within a day. Bed is king sized but is pretty hard and difficult to sleep on.
Not very fond of the Happy Talk restaurant--see Yelp reviews. Have stayed at the HBR several times--every time something is either has broken down or is under repair. Still, the price is reasonable.

The view was spectacular you could hear the ocean while sleeping I love that but the bed was horrible sunk in the middle I was extremely uncomfortable. I would love to stay at that at that end again. We've been going there for about 20 years. We hope to be returning again next year.
