Pretty bummed with this listing overall and I wanted to check out early and find something that was less gross. The room was very dingy and dirty and smelled musty. The bathroom smelled like urine. The entire place needs a serious deep clean, general maintenance and replacement of things. There were no amenities like shampoo/soap or coffee and what we did find was jammed in a dirty closet with cleaning supplies. Just pretty cringey overall. I get the sense this property management runs hundreds of these units, make their money and doesn’t care to maintain or update them often. I would take your money elsewhere!

We picked the property because of the view and the pool (for my son) and it did not disappoint! My favorite was sitting on the porch having my morning drink just looking at all the beauty. The location of the room on the property is awesome as well. Right there close to the pool/hot tub, restaurants, and other amenities. Plus it’s nice that the resort includes you in all the activities (I won at bingo!). The beds and pillows were comfortable, and the shower was always warm. The only con is the bathroom is a bit dark when you close the shower curtain and having some sort of rack to dry bathing suits would have been nice. Also, the faucet in the bathroom gets really hot, but it’s nice for when you need to clean a dish. We love staying north because it is more chill and would totally stay here again!

Suprised this room had no hair dryer and NO dresser. Would have been a lot more inconvienent if we had stayed more than a couple od nights. Otherwise a nice roomneautiful resort.

Wonderful unit overlooking the HBR pool and a bit of Hanalei Bay. Couldn't have asked for a better 3 day escape from Honolulu! HBR staff were very friendly and helpful. Golf cart ride down to the beach provided by HBR was a huge win due to the hike back up to the resort. TIP YOUR DRIVER THEY ARE AWESOME! Lots of food and drink accommodations within walking distance and Hanalei is a 10 minute drive or less. Overall this was a wonderful experience! PS the gift bag in the room was very nice and thoughtful!

The location is like living in a postcard, but the property management is the worst i ever had to deal with and from far !Would i go again to Kauai, for sure yes, would i go again to Hanalei Bay resort, for sure NOT !I also contacted VRBO during our stay, I’m still waiting for their response, now that it’s too late to solve the numerous problems !!!

I have been to Kauai many times and stayed at different places across the island. Hands down this was my favorite location ever! When we opened our shutters the first morning and saw the mountain and bay views, we were stunned. Looked like a painting!
The room was spacious and very clean. Beds were comfortable and gave us a great night’s sleep after days spent hiking and snorkeling.
Bathroom has plenty of room to get ready. We also used the fridge/freezer every day. Tip: buy ice at the grocery store to keep in the freezer to refill your water bottles daily.
This property is gorgeous! Spacious grounds. Very kind staff. Incredible restaurant with nightly live music.
We will absolutely be return customers. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Hanalei Bay Resort is like paradise. We felt like we were in old Hawaii. Beautiful views of the mountains and Hanalei Bay. Great pool area and the beach is so picturesque. The staff at HBR is so friendly and helpful. If you are looking for pure relaxation in paradise or a perfect spot to stay for exploring the north shore, this is it!

We had an amazing stay. The view from the lanai is gorgeous and the grounds and pool were stunning. The only thing I would say needs improvement is the unit itself is a bit dingy. But it felt clean. Would definitely stay here again.

I’d give the room 5 stars because it was exactly as described in the listing. It is just a standard hotel room style so plan on eating out every day. We expected that so it was fine. My 4 stars is based on the resort itself. The hot tub was out all but the first two days unfortunately. We were there 11, so that was disappointing. And the beautiful pool was almost too cold to get into. 2 of the main reasons we booked this resort was for the pool and spa facilities. So that was a bummer.
But everything was beautiful and the view from this room is good!

Very clean with amazing location. Would love to give this a 5 star review but I have had trouble getting ahold of owner to dispute pricing. The resort fees are much higher than listed and the deposit has yet to be dropped even though no damage or claims of damage reported. Would definitely stay here again if these issues could be resolved.

We had a great time and enjoyed our stay. The room was as described and very similar to a hotel room. I was a little surprised by some of the additional charges that I wasn’t prepared for. $17.00/day parking, $22.00/ day resort service fee, $50.00 check in fee. I wish this was noted prior to me booking. Overall we had a great time. Thank you!

Beautiful property and perfect spot for additional room for a large group. It is a tiny room, but priced as such, so no complaints. Recommend cleaning crew check that all items from previous guests are removed. We found a few undergarments upon check in.

I never review our stays normally but thought before staying here there are a few things to be aware of. The room felt unclean and the deck still had a bunch of beach sand from the last guest. There was no microwave which I thought I read there was one. It was weird to clean the coffee maker and cups in the bathroom sink coffee grinds everywhere. There was no soap dish so after you wash your hands it becomes a mess. The bedding covers are faded and so outdated, pictures are even faded. They replaced the AC and didn’t paint around the old one so it was an eye sore to look at. The good thing was the AC works great and the view is nice and close to the restaurant and pool. The front desk staff are really nice. This VRBO is basically a hotel room with a few dishes that you can’t even use and a coffeemaker shoved in a closet, and outdated room. But the resort is great will come back but will not stay at this room.
Not meant to be picky but be prepared for a hotel room.

The property location is ideal and the view from the balcony is breathtaking! Resort is beautifully well-maintained, and food at the on-site restaurant is good. Check in was easy and staff is efficient. The unit is really just a hotel room. I was prepared for this, but many want a kitchenette when booking through VRBO. Don't plan on cooking there, and you won't be disappointed. There is a mini fridge and coffee maker for your use, and the owners well-equipped items like umbrellas and beach chairs. Unfortunately, our unit was filthy when we arrived. The beds were made, but did not have sheets or pillowcases on them. The floor was sticky and there was visible dirt in several spaces. However, when I contacted the owner, she came out the next day and thoroughly cleaned. So, after an initial disappointment and frustration, she made it right. She also refunded half our cleaning fee, which I thought was fair. If you encounter any challenges like this when staying on the island, Kristen is responsive and kind. So, I thought it worthwhile to mention here. Our experience was overall very good, so I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Beautiful stay , everything was great ! Only wish more was open to enjoy, like the pool bar and restaurants for meals . I would come back loved the hot tub and the music at the small bar open from 3-9 pm . And of course the lovely view and beautiful kept grounds . My daughter and I enjoyed our stay, Aloha & Mahalo

We had a lovely stay. I would rate it 4/5. The room was very but there was a little room for improvement. It was stocked w silverware, cups and plates but there was no microwave. Small inconvenience really I would stay here again. The bathroom had a smell of old wet towels, i think this would be fixed by changing the shower curtain. We loved sitting on the veranda w coffee and walking around. There is a restaurant/bar that was good, but you’re not allowed to take your alcoholic beverage w you to walk around the grounds. You are however allowed to bring your own beverage from your room. Another small inconvenience was having to keep your pool towel with you. When you need a new one you turn in the old one, not really a big deal but a little annoying. The pool is beautiful and sonare the grounds. To get to the “beach” you go down a steep path. It’s a rather long distance so you can call for a ride down and up on a golf cart which is nice. It’s not a beach where you really would lay around but we didn’t come to lay around on the beach. We did hike down a trail that was by the beach and that was nice. It is a spectacular view of Hanalei Bay, we loved it.

The location was great for exploring the Northshore. The beds were very comfortable. The shower/toilet portion of the bathroom needs new lighting...very dark. Overall the room met expectations. The resort property is very nice but the onsite restaurant is too small/staff is not large enough to support the resort size.

Room was nice with a gorgeous view. Was less than a 5 minute walk to the beach. It turns out the room we were in was privately owned. Different owners had different policies on room cleaning, towels and toilet paper. The front desk was not really aware of the differences. Once we contacted the management company we were able to get every thing straightened out.

Can't beat the location. However, no microwave (but 3 coffee pots). The add did not mention a microwave, but you'd expect one since they had mini fridge, eating tinsels, plates, glass wear. The safe did not work as well. I was told it was too expensive to maintain.

Upon entering we were in disbelief. This is in no way a studio with a Kitchenette, there is no kitchenette. The refrigerator is in the closet, there is no place for toiletries, the sink doesn’t even fit the coffee pot, same sink for bathroom, no counter space, no storage space. The beds have giant sink holes, blown out mattresses caused major back pain. The comforters on the bed were dirty. The property management did absolutely nothing to accommodate our inconsistencies. The worst vacation rental I have ever stayed in.
