We stay at HBR every time we visit Kauai. This is our 4th time and we have stayed in a different rental each time at HBR. This one has been my favorite so far. It was beautifully decorated and the view was amazing. The washer and dryer came in handy because we have 3 under 3 so laundry is a daily necessity. The loft and beds were perfect for our kids. AC worked great. Fridge was really nice. The closet was also full of beach toys, boogie boards, coolers, chairs and umbrella. We did decide to move any items that could break away from our toddlers and rented a baby gate to close off the stairway up to the loft but that was about it. I would 100% come back to this rental with our kids.
Not really a con, but a recommendation - There is a broom but if the rental had a hand held vacuum that would have been icing on the cake.
The only "downside" to this rental is the building is the bottom of the resort so it's an uphill trek to the parking lot. It's not that far of a walk, and kind of nice to get your heart rate up BUT you can call the front desk for the golf carts to come pick you up. To that point, I definitely recommend tipping because the guys are great and will help load and unload the cart. HBR has never let us down. We talked to a couple who has been coming to Kauai for 21 years. They said outright that Hanalei Bay Resort is the best on the island and I would have to agree.

We stay at HBR every time we visit Kauai. This is our 4th time and we have stayed in a different rental each time at HBR. This one has been my favorite so far. Very clean very quiet and very comfortable. The view is incredible! The appliances are newer and we made use of them. Everything was great! The hike back up to the checkin building was a little workout but we did employ the transporters a few times. Just a beautiful place inside and out. Swimming pool was soooo awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hanalei Bay Resort at this Private, Spacious Condo.
Everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and easy. The kitchen is well stocked. Washer/Dryer was very useful. The stocked closet of beach chairs, flippers, tennis rackets, etc was very convenient and an added bonus. (Would recommend access to a broom to help keep guests stays tidy.)
The property is tucked away overlooking the bay and Na’Pali Coast, a truly breathtaking view. Quick walk to the ocean/ pool/ tennis courts/ bar/restaurant.
Would highly recommend this property and it is on our list to return.

We loved our stay at the Hanalei Bay Resort! The views, tranquility and pool were wonderful. The view from the unit was very nice. We would absolutely stay again!!! A few reasons for the 4 stars.. we needed to change out dates and messaged the owner numerous times 10 months ahead of our stay and no reply. As time got closer (I think 1 month) messaged again and was told we can't modify to stay 2 less nights because too close to our stay. It definitely put a kink in our travel plans and felt 10 months was enough time to inquire but we didn't receive text or emails back. The livingroom TV was really really small and so we ended up snuggling in the master bed to watch tv so never really used the livingroom. Other than that such a lovely stay!

I have stayed in this unit twice for a total of 17 days in 2023 and love it! I also have stayed at this resort in another unit and can appreciate the nice touches Steve has provided, as well as the unique location of this unit.
The location is ideal because it is on the second floor but because it is a two story unit with a loft upstairs, it has high/vaulted ceilings and no neighbors above the unit. In addition, it is much more quiet than many of the other units because you don't hear the gas-powered carts nearly as much as you do from other locations. The view is also lovely and the furnishings are much higher quality than the typical units at this resort. The teak furniture on the huge lanai is lovely and the cushions are quite comfy. We spent many hours on the lanai eating, drinking and just taking in the gorgeous view.
A huge plus is the recent opening of 1Hotel Hanalei Bay, which shares the same beach as the Hanalei Bay Resort. I enjoyed having cocktails at their pool bar and eating at their restaurants.
The only downside to this unit is that the A/C doesn't work as well for the upstairs loft area as it does for the master bedroom. I had no problems getting the temperature very cool quickly in the downstairs master bedroom, but no matter how long I ran the upstairs unit, it never got cool enough for my friend to sleep comfortably. I think it could benefit from a service call/repair.

Only the air conditioner in bedroom worked. I reported it and they said they are waiting on a part. Stayed 6 nights and never heard a thing. It looks they they are aware of the problem but just don't fix it. They views and location are outstanding. Oh and be ready to walk a lot of very steep hills.

Overall, we were happy with the place.
The unit was roomy and clean. We especially appreciate the two twin beds in the loft for our adult-ish kids. There were plenty of extra towels in the closet. The temperature that week was between 70 - 80F so it was never too hot. AC in the bedroom worked well. The view was amazing, we loved the Jurassic Park feel. We couldn't see much of the water since there was a lot of trees but that's okay, we liked the mountains. There was beach equipment that was available for use. We loved the beach chairs with the straps and pockets. Unfortunately the beach umbrella was broken, so it was a waste of time and energy to carry it all the way to the beach and have it not work. There were several snorkels but mostly for kids, and no adult fins. We did use the boogie boards, and the tennis rackets.
We arrived late and didn't know that there was no coffee, sugar, or creamer in the room. Also, there was one little bar of soap, and one little bottle of shampoo and conditioner, and no lotion. Unlike a hotel, they don't give you more since the unit is owned by a private owner.
The resort was beautiful. The walk from the room to lobby or parking lot was not so bad, if it was too hot to walk we called and they'd give you a ride in the golf cart. We enjoyed the pool and bar. We had dinner at the bar, but there's no breakfast or lunch places.
We loved Kauai, so quiet and different from the other islands, and Hanalei Bay was the perfect location for us.

Our family enjoyed a memorable vacation in this comfortable condo.
The owner checking in with us right away to make sure that everything was going well...which it was!
We rented the adjacent unit to accommodate all of us. It worked very well for us.
We all enjoyed the magnificent view, the soft rains, the many rainbows, the birds and birdsong, the scented air, the swimming pools...the many orchids and tropical plants and the many amenities offered by the resort.

Hanalei Bay Resort is a great with amazing views and gorgeous landscaping! This unit is perfect for enjoying the beauty of Kauai. The mountains, Hanalei Bay, and the ocean can all be viewed from the spacious lanai and even from the king bed in the master bedroom. Our 7 week stay was beautiful and magical. Steve (owner) responded quickly with answers to our questions and when the a/c needed repair. Highly recommend and will return.

I am late posting this review, so hopefully the simple issues have been resolved. We stayed April 2022.
Positives:
Beautiful, amazing view. Quiet. Bed was comfortable. Lots of beach and pool toys. The kitchen was stocked with spices which was nice for cooking. Onsite restaurant was handy but selections and hours were limited. Resort staff were friendly. The property manager was quick to respond to concerns.
Negatives:
The unit is run down. A quick trip to Home Depot (there is one on Kauai), a few hundred bucks, and a weekend of work would solve some of the issues. There is a missing cabinet door under the kitchen sink, other cabinet doors do not close because the hinges are bent. The bathroom fan is rusting and very dirty. The area around the AC in the bedroom has a hole in the wall and shows the outline of what must have been a bigger AC unit as the paint color is different (note someone mentioned this is a review from a couple of years ago and the area still has not fixed). Areas around the light switches are dirty. There is a variety of lightbulbs in the overhead lights which gives a weird glow and looks terrible. The living room furniture is not comfortable for lounging. Are these big issues? Did they ruin our vacation? No, but for the price this place should not have these simple issues. Honestly, get them fixed it looks horrible.
About the resort: HBR is beautiful, but if you or a family member have mobility issues this unit would not be a good choice. The unit is approximately 1/4 mile (according to my phone and watch) from the start of the large parking area and it is hilly walk. This was a pain when forgetting something in the car. You can call for a golf cart ride, they were pretty quick to get us, but we only used this when checking in and out due to luggage.
Check in was time consuming due to the line of resort guests also checking in. There are resort fees. The unit door requires a physical key which isn't a huge deal but a pain if you're used to staying places that have a keypad.

The resort is a superb property nestled into one of the best areas on the island. Us three middle-aged brothers were blown away with our overall eight day visit to the resort. The unit was the absolute perfect size for three men, and the access to the beaches, river, pool and hot tub was offered in every direction, right outside our front door. We were able to take a short walk to serious surf, serious relaxation or solid entertainment and we feel blessed to have found this condo on this property.
Our overall review unfortunately had to come in at 4 out of 5 stars. The only reason we didn’t rate the resort a 5 star was due to the lack of cleaning to our unit. (The property manager/owner was perfect with communicating and booking and the condo itself was absolutely gorgeous with a stunning view)….My brothers and I were able to overlook the following details, just need to give honest feedback for the owners:
Upon arrival, the condo had barely been cleaned. The kitchen had a serious fish smell and several of the kitchen drawers had obviously been soaked with fish juice and never properly cleaned out or wiped down with disinfectant. This gave the entire unit a fish smell during the whole week we stayed. (The beds were clean/made and the whole unit was somewhat cleaned at a basic level). However, entry to the unit had cobwebs/dirty bench and just needed to be cleaned. Last, we found dirty underwear in the upstairs loft next to the bed which wasn’t impossible to deal with, just hard to miss. Mainly, the fish smell in the kitchen is something the owners need to know about (definitely not the owners fault). Again, my two brothers and I are middle aged men and we were able to easily oversee the lack of cleaning as we were blown away by the size of the unit, location and world class view exactly like the pictures show - every morning and every night. The owners of the condo seem wonderful. MAHALO for giving us an unimaginable week stay in your world class island home! I hope we can stay again some day!

We were blown away by this beautiful escape on Kauai. The amenities at the resort were wonderful. Fom the onsite restaurant to the pools to the golf carts that help you get around, everything was beautiful and comfortable. Staff was friendly, and our favorite activity was heading down to the calm, quiet beach downhill. The views are once-in-a-lifetime incredible, and we hope we can return to this condo to experience it all again.

I had researched HBR very carefully and was fully aware of the resort, with one restaurant, no swim-up bar, full parking lots and steep paths, those shortcomings are very minor because the resort has a great location and phenomenal view.
I had high hopes for our unit, being that it has an unobstructed view from the balcony. When we checked in at 2:30, we could not get in the room until 3:00 for some reason, as the unit was clearly not being worked on, the front desk made it very clear –“If anything is wrong with the unit, you need to contact the owner, as it is an owner controlled unit”. I was already aware of this but for the front desk to stress it, should have sent off clear warning signals.
When we first opened the door, we knew we were going to have problems. The air conditioning was not working. I was able to get the AC working in the bedroom but not in the main unit. As it was later in the day, and getting hotter, 87 degrees, I decided to contact the local property manager. She was not at all helpful, saying “sometimes the AC works, sometimes it does not” and “I thought the owner fixed that”. I asked her to contact the owner and have him call me. She did offer to bring over some fans. I was able to find the correct remote for the main unit AC and after I did some online research, I reprogrammed the remote which did make the AC unit function, fan would run and turn on/off, but still no cooling air. I was concerned because we were running it all day and thought it might improve but it did not. Also concerned that the defective AC might be an electrical risk, I decided to check the smoke detectors, to my surprise both smoke detectors had the battery removed.
Since the owner did not call or return my email the first day, I contacted the property manager to bring over some fans, which she did by leaving 3 fans and battery by the door for me to assemble and put in the unit
There were a number of issues with the unit, all that seemed minor by themselves:
Broken or missing cabinet doors, Light switches and lamps not working, Missing cover on bathroom lighting fixture, AC not working, Washing machine full of water that I had to drain manually and no response from rep/owner. Broken shelves, No fire extinguisher
But combine these with no smoke detectors just proves this owner does not maintain a safe unit. Wish we had a better unit but Kauai/Hanalei were great! Didn't let the unit bother us. Live Aloha but future renters should know.

The best thing about this condo is the view! The check-in and out process went smoothly, except we were charged an extra two-hundred dollars at the end of the stay and I don't know what that was for. The decor in the condo felt too big and too much for the small space. Other than that, the condo was perfect.

If you want to wake up to watching double rainbows shine over Hanalei Bay as you sit and drink your morning coffee or afternoon cocktail, this is absolutely the ideal lanai to do it enjoy them from!!! The view is gorgeous, the lanai is lovely, and the bed is comfortable. However, the air conditioner in the great room does not work and the clothes dryer heats up the unit. Also, the unit is located very far from the parking lot. It is an extremely steep climb. Although the shuttles are reliable, it is a hassle to have to use them all the time.

Had numerous problems. Locks on door difficult to use, sink plumbing leaked, oven drawer handles broken, toilet runs , rinse agent in dishwasher empty, dishwasher not attached to counter, filter on refrigerator needs replacement, shelves on refrigerator door all broken. living room furniture couches cushions are worn and uncomfortable. The location, site and views are incredible.

Had a great R and R stay at your property, celebrating our 41 anniversary. Property was located ideally in the resort, with views and pools nearby. We really enjoyed the shuttles considering we are getting too old for the long walk uphills. The check-in was a little convoluted with all the requirements of showing proof of negative covid tests, considering we just arrived from the mainland with that proof. My only suggestion would be to have more BBQ utensils, some tongs for cooking, and more wine glasses. All and all, a good stay at your place! Mahalo!

We had such a great week in Kauai in this condo (before heading off to a week in Maui). The location was absolutely perfect. I worked remotely this week - starting at 6am. It was stunning to watch the sun rise each morning, the clouds lift over the mountain (and see a great waterfall most days), the ocean sparkling and the birds chirping. AMAZING!
The condo was perfect for us ! Comfortable and all the amenities that you'll need for your Hawaii get away. Great communication from the owner.
The Happy Talk Lounge was fantastic (though we didn't even try it until our last day). The pool was awesome (I did miss having a pool bar however). The grounds are gorgeous. I have soooo many photos on my camera roll of flowers, birds and fruit trees all taken from the grounds.
We will be back- and we will stay here in this AWESOME condo again!
PS to Steve. I absolutely LOVE the framed leis you have in the condo. I looked all around to see where I could get a Haku lei. So fantastic. Great overall Hawaiian decor made this so fun and interesting!

Spent our honeymoon at this resort. Didn't realize the parking situation requires you to park far from the condo, but the resort has staff who will easily drive you in a golfcart to the unit. Easy check-in, attentive communication with our host and beautiful views from the unit. Appreciated the wall-mounted "swamp cooler" in the bedroom when the humidity got too high, well-stocked kitchen pots/pans/utensils and home-y decor.

The views from the lanai (and inside) are amazing. It is a walk to the condo but the hotel has golf carts to take you to the parking lot or to your condo (and to the beach). HBR is a great resort, nice private beach, amazing pool, restaurant on location.

We had a wonderful week in this unit at the Hanalei Bay Resort. The unit has a beautiful view and was nicely decorated. I would say the highlight was spending time at the beach. It is a bit of a walk getting down to the beach, but there is a rolling cooler, which made it easy. You can also get a lift with the complimentary golf cart service if you prefer. The setting was just so peaceful. We went snorkeling and were lucky enough to see a sea turtle feeding off the reef. There is plenty of tree shade, so we did not need an umbrella. The unit also came with a few tennis rackets, so you could easily play a casual game of tennis without needing to rent a racket. The tennis courts were never busy the week we were there. The pool was also nice, but I think the beach was really the highlight.

The views from the unit are fantastic. It’s in a large condo complex and has very steep hills, thus all the golf carts the staff uses. This unit is in the very back…which is good. It puts you in an unobstructed ocean view of Hanelei Bay and the Mountian range known as Bali Hi. When checking in at the front desk the attendant told me this was his favorite building of the entire complex due to the views. For the price it really can’t be beat. It sits next to the St. Regis which is currently closed for remodeling. It’s a 7-10 minute walk to the beach down some steep hills but when you get there you can walk around the entire 2 mile bay. Perfect location in the best part of Kauai in the north shore.

We loved staying here. Pictures, listing & reviews capture it well. Spacious, clean. Not quite as perfect as the pictures, but close.
Steve was very responsive, great at communication, proactively checked in on us.
The views!! We loved the lanai & were glad to be in one of the few buildings where you only see mountains, not the other units. Its a bit further from the lagoon pool, down steep paths but worth the tradeoff.
Our best remote work experience on island so far. Worked from the room & at a hut by the business center overlooking the pool. Resort internet was down 1.5h but otherwise great.
Pool was even better than expected. Lots of fun features to explore, about 4' swimming depth in most places, its shape lends to a more private feel, tropical and warm. Hot tub is open. Swim up bar just reopened, R-Su for fun, pricey, unremarkable drinks. We aren't always pool people but it was so great that we spent lots of time here.
Small, easily walkable, steep resort. golf carts are very helpful for luggage, going down to the beach, and mobility issues. Carts consistently took 1/2h to arrive and multiple calls, plan accordingly.
Resort charges $32/day. Like elsewhere, resort activities are closed for covid.
The private beach had tons of shade, tree swing for sitting. Theres a path to not-to-be missed Hideaway Beach with great snorkeling, for those up for a tromp through the construction site at adjacent Princeton resort, and a short steep climb through woods holding onto ropes as you scramble down a dirt slope.
Main bedroom AC just died and is being replaced. Between a bedroom fan and the AC in the other rooms going strong, the bedroom was a little warm but fine.
Washer/dryer was very useful. Hiking, beach time and constant damp tropical air make it hard to keep things clean or fully dry anything via hanging. We didn't notice any must or mold but it's an inherent struggle everywhere on island.
Restaurants were both closed. One for multiple years. other for covid, may reopen in near future. 8min drive to the little shopping center with grocery store and several restaurants. Great outdoor grills.
The mudslide road closure begins at the shopping center. We liked that there were less people on the other side. Traffic is allowed through at specific times each day and took us about 45min each time to cross. Google Hanalei road closure for schedule.

Terrific, spacious condo at HBR with views over the gardens and Hanalei Bay. We loved having a full kitchen to stock for the occasional breakfast and cocktail hour when we weren't exploring the beautiful North Shore of Kauai. Used the grills on property one evening for a lovely dinner on the deck in comfortable cushioned chairs as the sun set!

Really had an amazing time in Steve's unit. Everything about the unit was as described - fabulous views and decor.
Our stay was almost perfect. Couple of suggestions:
1. Resort charges were more than what were communicated ($charged $32/day instead of $26 in the check in instructions.
2. Would be useful to have basic condiments e.g., sugar, salt, seasonings etc. (fairly standard at every property i've stayed).

If you love mold and musty smells so bad that it makes your eyes water this is the place for you!!! Multiple pictures of bare breasted women throughout the condominium which I assume is suppose to resemble Hawaiian culture which I saw no bare breasted women walking around the grounds. Mold actively growing on the air conditioner. Toilet ran constantly. One pillow was stained with who knows what. All that being said the view was very spectacular. The staff there was awesome and was very helpful, especially Matt and Summer. Would stay there again but definitely not at the same condominium

We had an amazing vacation with our family over the holidays, returning to Kauai after 13 years! We LOVE HBR and the location of this unit is fantastic! The views from the balcony are really spectacular!! We enjoyed walking down to the beach every morning for sunrise. The kids loved the big pool and we took advantage of the gas grills available for all to use. We also appreciated the coolers, snorkels and boogie boards in the unit which made going to the beach more enjoyable. Everyone that works at HBR is incredibly friendly and very helpful. This unit is perfect for a special family vacation!!!

The view of the ocean and the mountains is breathtaking. The condo is very spacious and comfortable. We loved all the birds, nene, and chickens that wondered around the grounds. We did a lot of cooking. There are no cooking supplies so we even brought our own salt. We had a great stay

From the very start our check in was smooth. They have a courtesy shuttle to anywhere on the grounds. This was extra helpful when loading luggage to the room and groceries... or a tired kiddo after a long day of fun. The unit has amazing views and everything you could possibly need in paradise. The grounds are the icing on top, gorgeous pools, we bbq'd every night while our son swam in the pool. Could not have asked for a more relaxing time. The property manager was very responsive and extremely kind, especially when our son damaged one of the comforters. (Things happen when traveling with kiddos). We have stayed in Kauai many times, poipu being our favorite side of the island until now. This condo and location in Princeville out rank any place we have stayed, hotels and VRBO's included. WE WILL BE COMING BACK TO THIS CONDO FOR SURE!!

Lets start with the view...AMAZING. Many of the other units at HBR would have views that include buildings, but this view is unobstructed and all you see is the Napali Coast and Hanalei Bay. Sunrise and Sunset on the lanai are a MUST.
The resort does have the $26/day fee but includes the golf cart shuttle to front desk/parking lot/beach (or anywhere on property) which comes in extremely handy when transporting items for the day. Super quick response on the shuttle or a short walk.
The unit has 2 beach chairs, 2 bamboo mats, 2 umbrellas, many boogie boards, and many coolers. Thanks for including these! The beach chairs are a huge plus.
The amenities at this resort are great. We didn't have time to play tennis, but there are plenty of courts available! We did check out the Swim Up Bar, which is the ONLY SWIM UP BAR IN KAUAI! it was awesome, but note that it is not heated, so order an extra Mai Tai from Ryan to stay warm (dont forget to check out Mai tai Mondays for free Mai Tais). The main restaurant is under construction, but we thoroughly enjoyed the food/service/entertainment at the Happy Talk lounge one evening.
In case you don't watch Jurassic Park before heading for Kauai, fear not, Steve has you covered! You can watch Jurassic Park...on VHS! It was incredible. Sorry I didn't re-wind...
Heard from someone to bring our FireTV stick, but we never used it because we preferred to sit on the lanai and listen to the ocean/play games, but the TV's have HDMI plugins if you prefer to watch Netflix/Amazon/Etc.
Things that might be helpful to bring - ziplock bags (stopped at Costco for food, and it was nice to use for snacks/sandwiches/ice for the day. The ice maker in the fridge is untouchable...it never ran out!!), tide pods (there are 2 packets in the unit, but we brought our own for pre-leaving laundry and washing swimsuits/etc). There IS a spice rack in the unit so we did a lot of cooking there (some reviews indicated otherwise). Some of the pans could be updated, but we understand it's a rental and made it work.
Things that we would recommend: Hanalei Bay (watch for rain as the bridge can close), Tahiti Nui (awesome Mai Tais and featured in Katy Perry's Harleys in Hawaii video), Hanalei Bread Co (great coffee/food), Captain Andy Star Sunset Cruise, Outfitters Kauai Kayak/Hike/Zipline tour, Poipu Beach Park, Lawa'i Beach (snorkeling, very small beach), and just Beach Hop or enjoy amazing Golf!
