The Islander is in a good location and it has a laid back vibe. I'm familiar with the property so I knew what to expect of the location and amenities (thumbs up for those). This unit; however, needs some serious cleaning attention. Upon check in, the bathroom sink was clogged, there were spiders at the ceiling corner above the front door (in the room), the bathroom door had dirty handprints along the edges, there are tiny sand-colored ants that make their way to the dining table, and there is mold on the framed photos, portions of the walls, and on the drapes to the sliding glass doors. Maintenance was able to clean away the spiders and unclog the sink (turns out the pipe was filled with sand from prior guests). But, these are things that should be noticed and taken care of by house keeping during cleaning. I will stay at the Islander again, but not likely in this unit.

Great location to overlooking the ocean. Property is close to shopping and restaurants. The beach on the property is very small but almost no one goes there. Would definitely stay again!

Condo, was right on the beach. You could hear and see the waves right on the Lanai. Condo, could use a little upgrade, but was very comfortable. The grounds at the Islander are beautiful, and the nightly Tiki Bar at the pool was wonderful to have.

Loved this studio condo right on the beach! It’s small but clean and nice. Right by the bike trail and lots of shopping etc you can get to.

Positives first - great view of the ocean, wonderful grounds around the complex, nice pool, grill was fine, easy parking and easy to get washers/dryers in the laundry room. The entertainment unit was excellent, though no instructions how to use it.
Negatives - This apartments appears not to have been renovated since Hurricane Iniki in 1992. Kitchen range/oven is rusting and the refrigerator is functional but old. Microwave and dishwasher were relatively new. The carpet is old and rather gross. Mice in the apartment. Called Val, who is suppose to address all our concerns...responded only to repair the electrical front door lock that took us 6 tries to open when we arrived after traveling 24 hours. The problem reoccurred a day and half later. Left her a voicemail message about the door and the mice. Never heard from her. The door did work fine after that, but mice turds and urine were never addressed. Really gross. The phone number for maintenance on the wall of the apartment is disconnected. I told Val, but no response. The shower faucet is ready to fall off at any time. We had no fire alarm. It was disconnected from the ceiling. We found it on the top shelf in the closet as we were packing to leave. Old and yellow. The mattress was comfortable, but the pillows were old and cheap. We saw other units in this complex that were lovely. The summary of this unit on Vrbo says nothing about no linen/sheets exchange nor unit cleaning until after you have put down your deposit. Then lo and behold, no linen/sheets exchange nor cleaning unless you pay for it. We were there for 11 nights and we had to pay for these services? I have stayed in many places in my life, but this was a first. Another way for the owner to increase his profit. The daily rental fee is more at much nicer apartments in the complex, so again, you get what you pay for. If this is what you can afford then fine, but if you are looking for a lovely apartment in Kauai, do not rent this apartment.

The location was great! Everything we wanted and needed was easily accessible. Our balcony faced the beach and had an amazing view! I will definitely recommend and hopefully visit again soon.

We loved being right on the beach; lovely welcome by the host with hawaiian music, air con on and local goodies. Very comfortable bed and a great location on the island. Parking was really easy too. Highly recommend staying here.

We walked into this room, and were immediately awed by the beautiful view. The furniture is a bit dated, but we found the bed comfortable. The room got quite warm during the day, but it cooled down enough at night that we never had issues when we went to bed.
The kitchen was not stocked with any food items (spices/coffee/oil), and we had to ask for an extra roll of toilet paper, because they had only left one. The manager was quick to respond to our questions.
There were plenty of shops and restaurants a short walk away from room, which was very convenient.
There were a lot of tiny ants in the kitchen coming in through the window, but other than that, the room was clean.

This place delivered what it promised by providing a stone's throw access to a beautiful beach in eastern Kuaui. My wife and I stayed here four nights as part of our 10-year anniversary and we were not disappointed. We ended up having slow mornings to make breakfast in the kitchen and sit out on the balcony and just enjoy the sound and sights of the waves. This is walking distance to several restaurants varying in price and cuisine. It is also within walking distance of a market and a great bakery. The place is comfortable and perfect for a two-person stay. Would definitely stay here again if possible when we return to Kuaui.

Overall fine. Price was cheaper than the property`s hotel owned units. Great location, directions for check in clear via email, etc. Some extras were available like beach umbrella and chairs,& yoga mats, which was nice. Overall pretty clean, but some items should probably be replaced due to age and wear and tear, like a discolored toilet seat. Shower curtain had a strong sour mildew smell, so needs a very deep clean. Pillow had a mildew smell as well, but i flipped it over and it was ok. Shower has very little water pressure and shower head should probably be replaced soon. Was told a reasonable amount of paper products would be provided and then I`d have to buy the rest on my own. Well there were two toilet paper rolls for a ten night stay for two people. That`s a bit unreasonable in my opinion.

The location is superb. The ocean view phenomenonal. No ac, but if you keep windows open it’s fine. My only complaint is other guests. Unlike hotels, there’s no one really to complain to onsite. We had a routy group of wedding guests up each night and loud on their porch or on the lawn. They kept it down when we asked, but the quiet hours aren’t always respected. Other than that though, it’s a great place.

The condo was facing the ocean with beautiful views. We had doves visiting us every morning for a hand out. The apartment was clean and the bed was comfortable. Although, when we arrived, there was no toilet paper or kitchen towels, shampoo etc., the deficiency was corrected the following day. The property is located in the middle of the island and so both the north and south end of the island were easily accessible. The main problem that we had was finding good meals. Making reservations any place in Kauai is very difficult. This was not the fault of the rental agency. We would recommend making reservations for good restaurants far in advance.

We spent a week here in May 2022. This unit is all about the view from the deck and the sound of the surf. It's close to all you need so you don't have to do a lot of driving around the island if you want to stay put for a very relaxing vacation.

The room was pretty clean with the exception of someone’s makeup or self tanner smudged on the fitted sheet when we pulled back the covers. We simply rotated the sheet and did not complain due to our fatigue from attempting to make it there and not be charged for another night we were not present for since our flight had been cancelled the day prior. When we reached out about possibly not getting charged for the night we were unable to be there, we were met with the comment, “Well there’s nothing we can do. We didn’t cancel your flight.” As if I had cancelled my flight. I know your staff did not. They obviously could not have but that insensitive, complete lack of empathy comment matched with the small refund of $18 because we reached out to VRBO and they said we had to be refunded a minimum of the tax for the night, along with the dirty or stained sheet, AND having to check out and move to another room because of “mandatory renovations” that the Islander on the Beach staff knew nothing about.. We needless to say, did not enjoy our stay as much as we had hoped we would.

Wow, if you want oceanfront this is a great property. We loved the grounds and the condo. It is a bit dated, but clean and almost everything you need to have a great place to base out of and enjoy. The bed is comfortable, and we loved the table and chairs on the lanai. We wish there had been an extra kitchen towel and some kind of paper towels or napkins provided…we had to buy our own. But, really appreciate the coffee filters. We enjoyed our stay very much and wish we could stay longer!

The unit was clean, the bed comfortable and it was nice that 2 beach towels, beach chairs and a little cooler bag were available for use. The complex is a bit dated (and a little worn from the sea/salt exposure), but the waterfront view is awesome. Nothing fancy but the value is great and it is in a great location to go anywhere on the island in not too long a drive. Plenty of places to get food if you don`t want to drive too. Check in was easy, we didn`t have any problems while we were there. Kitchenette is small but allowed for us to keep perishables in the small fridge (worked well) - we used the gas grill down by the pool.

Loved the location and the ambiance. Stunning view of the ocean. Close enough to stores and restaurants with a secluded feel. Enjoyed the stay. The bed was perfect and comfortable. The other furniture is outdated and the kitchen could used an update to counters and appliances. I was a bit concerned not having AC or heat, but the with the windows open and ceiling fan the temperature was fine. Consider a small AC unit to control humidity. The waves were soothing and relaxing to hear each night.

First -We loved it was on the beach with nothing obstructing the view (other than a few trees)! Such a beautiful view!! It’s not a luxury condo with fancy frills, but it met all we wanted for our stay. Somewhat outdated (older cabinets, shower pressure was so-so, and the smoke alarm was disabled) but it was clean and quiet and that was what was the most important to us. The gardens are BEAUTIFUL. We were very happy with the price for all we got. The bed is nice and very comfortable! Air conditioner worked great, which was a must for my husband. There’s beach chairs and an umbrella provided, as well as a soft sided cooler. You have to walk 3 flights of stairs as there’s no elevator, but we didn’t mind that. Shopping and grocery store nearby was such a nice convenience!! . We loved eating at the next door restaurant, Lava Lava, our favorite restaurant we tried in Kauai!! Cocktails at the pool tiki hut was also a huge plus (strong and tasty!). I would DEFINITELY recommend this place if you’re on a budget and want a great location overlooking the ocean!!!

This condo (#7) at Kapaa Sands is small but perfect for a home base as you explore the island. Even though some of the furnishings were on the older side it was very clean and very well equipped for all our needs. The ocean front view is what makes this place. We had every breakfast and dinner on the balcony. Even without A/C the ceiling fan and the constant trade winds kept it very comfortable inside. Convenient location means you can walk to restaurants or shops which is a plus.
