Upon arrival, unit was only partially cleaned. Difficult to get to the manager with the time difference. Called VRBO's helpline and they were of no use. After 2 days mostly squared away. The unit has had minimal upgrades and is in need of attention. At least 8 lightbulbs needed replacing, toilet seat was broken, shower curtain torn, dent in refrigerator door. A/C in living area did not work as well as the bedroom A/C. Right sliding door was difficult to open, couch cushions were worn out. With that said, we actually stayed a little longer because the Whaler, and this unit's location was excellent. Just know its a bit rundown.

We enjoyed our stay. The ocean views were beautiful and the condo was well stocked. The unit appears bigger in pictures because of the mirrored walls. Overall, the unit is fine. It is ready for some updating -- stained carpet, chips in kitchen floor, peeling formica countertops, chipped mirrors on wall. The master bathroom is nicely updated and the master bed was very comfy.

The Whaler has lovely grounds, great location and friendly professional staffing.
Unit 807 appears to have never been remodeled from when it was 1st built which we were told was in the seventies. There is peeling paint, stains all over the carpet wallpaper peeling. Stains/dirt around the bathroom door handles are pretty gross.
When we arrived we weren't allowed to check in till 2 hours after the time that was stated because the place hadn't been cleaned. The agent Beckie couldn't be reached. Whaler staff were pleasant but that didn't help the waiting issue. When we entered the unit (6 PM) it smelled like it hadn't been cleaned but it aired out relatively quickly once doors were opened. The switch for the bedroom fan was broken.One of the lamps was broken as well.
That's all the bad news the good news is the view is phenomenal, the lanai is wonderful there's plenty of room especially if there's only 2 of you. Everything worked in the kitchen.
Being steps from the beach is a great bonus and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. After a while the dismal condo sort of melted into the background because Maui is so beautiful.
We would definitely come and stay at the Whaler again but next time we would know that we should ask for a premium unit. Having not been here before we did not understand that premium meant lovely. I wouldn't recommend 807.
Beckie, our hostess on VRBO Was unavailable when we could not check in but after a while she turned up (via phone) and did say that she would adjust the price to reflect the fact that we weren't able to check in on time. We did get a $200 refund after we checked out.

Fabulous mountain and ocean view from 8th floor balcony. Spacious condo for 4 adults and we appreciated having 2 full bathrooms. We would definitely return to this unit at The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach!

You just get everything…from the courtyard, pool, beach, sunsets, whale watching and boats picking up people on the beach for a cruise! Turn your head to the left and you get beautiful green landscape with mountains! We would definitely stay in this room again!! The Whaler is so convenient to many activities, love it!!

The location was great! The space was so nice with a full, well stocked kitchen and large deck off the living space and bedroom. Watched whales and the tour boats load and unload daily. Would be great for 2 couples or a family. The pool and beach were steps away. Loved walking to great restaurants and watching the sunset ritual at Black Rock. The underground parking was nice. There is a $25/day fee but we were aware of that before arriving. Will definately stay at The Whaler again!

There was a full kitchen with everything we needed. There were games, beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers and even snorkeling gear available for our use in the room! Near lots of shops and restaurants. The concierge there set us up for a week of adventures and we had the time of our lives!! We will definitely stay here again when we come back to this part of Hawaii.

This place was at a beautiful resort with beach access and a heated pool which was great for night swimming! There were only 2 of us but it would have slept 4 very comfortably. There was a full kitchen with everything we needed. There were games, beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers and even snorkeling gear available for our use in the room! Near lots of shops and restaurants. The concierge there set us up for a week of adventures and we had the time of our lives!! We will definitely stay here again when we come back to this part of Hawaii.

This place is great!. Very spacious (with the bedroom) and very tastefully decorated. Extended balcony with perfect views of the ocean, courtyard and the boardwalk along Kaanapali Beach. This was a beautiful complex right on a great beach and the condo had perfect views from the 8th floor. We really enjoyed the balcony. The unit was large and comfortable. A bit dated, but still very functional and well stocked. Highly recommend.

Everything was fabulous except for bedroom cable is not working well, Boogie boards are all broken, and hot water at peak times can be a real challenge! They're almost not worth mentioning, except that for those of you who come after us, I'm sure these things will be fixed... Everyone's been great...a blown light bulb in lamp by bedroom door tripped a breaker and mgmt showed us where it was to reset it. You will have fun!

Our first experience using VRBO was definitely a good one! The Whaler #807 was a wonderful unit. We were impressed how well stocked it was with towels, soap, Kleenex, paper towels, pots & pans, dishes, silverware, hair dryers, …… along with cleanliness! The view from our lanai was spectacular of the ocean, courtyard, and mountains! Thanks to Beckie for a wonderful, accommodating 50th anniversary/retirement celebration!

This is a beautiful Property and Unit: gorgeous water views and can even see Whales from the Balcony. We loved this Deluxe Unit and would definitely stay again. The unit is bright and roomy and again the views spectacular !

Overall great place to stay. Easy process to check in. Everyone there was very friendly. Sunsets are amazing on this side of island. Pool was cold but sounds like it was a maintenance issue they were working to fix. Just jump in and you will be fine. We had everything we needed in the room to make this stay great.

GREAT location. Right in the middle of Kaanapali Beach. Basically, adjacent to all the restaurants and Whaler’s Village. The buildings are VERY well maintained and updated throughout. The staff is excellent. This cons is one back from ocean front, so amazing! I've stayed at this condo three times now and it is very well kept. Everything clean and in good working order (shower, kitchen appliances etc.). Beach gear in the closet was convenient. Lauri was easy to communicate with. This was just an easy, pleasant and uneventful experience with no surprises. I would definitely stay here again. LOVE THIS CONDO!!!

Decided to add a few days to our 2 week vacation. We've always stayed on Kaanapali, but not at the Whaler. It's great for adults who appreciate less action and activity on property. We really enjoyed our stay!

This is a great location in the complex. Great views! Nice set up with lots of room. Could have used a few more items in the kitchen, but we got by. Dated decor, but not bad. We had the same issue are one of the other reviewers. Showed up for 3:00 check in and the cleaning crew was not even started. They said they were not told there would be a check in that day. Then they did a hurry up job and we got possession at 5:20. Couldn’t reach the property manager. The next day she responded and gave us a late check out as an apology and refunded our cleaning fee. Still, it was a nice place to stay.
