Great location, right above the water. Easy walking to all the restaurants and shops of Kona, while not getting stuck in traffic on the main drag. Close, covered parking location. The condo was nicely furnished and had most everything I needed. They could use soy sauce and some condiments for the fridge.
In general it was a relaxing stay and just what I wanted.

This is an unbelievable location in Kona on the rocky beach. Constant waves breaking close-up to the resort make for mesmerizing entertainment. Hale Kona Kai has a nice-sized pool, a great propane grill, and laundry facilities, and it's a short walk from the Kona bars and restaurants. This unit was well supplied with all the amenities you can think of. This place would have gotten 5 stars except for repeated reviews with complaints about the front door that sticks so bad you can hardly open it and has no deadbolt and the bed which creaks, cracks and groans everytime you move to the point of waking us up. These items need to be fixed and then all your reviews would be 5 stars. Great place!

What an amazing location! Right on the beach, we were able to look down to the tide pools and the sea from our lanai and saw turtles come in to feed every day, lovely bonus! The apartment needs some updating, but overall it was clean and comfortable and is just a short walk into the center of Kona. Also loved having a dedicated covered parking space so the car didn't get overly hot!

What an amazing location! Right on the beach, we were able to look down to the tide pools and the sea from our lanai and saw turtles come in to feed every day, lovely bonus! The apartment needs some updating, but overall it was clean and comfortable and is just a short walk into the center of Kona. Also loved having a dedicated covered parking space so the car didn't get overly hot!

My wife and I love a great view. Our unit at Hale Kona Kai is one of the world’s best we have experienced. It compares with places we have stayed in Santorini, Paris, Rome, San Francisco, LakeTahoe, and Niagra Falls.
We also love restaurants. This unit is a short walk (minutes) to everything from oceanfront fine dining to tiki bars with local fresh caught fish tacos.
The unit was very comfortable for us. Any needs we had were responded to promptly. The unit provided all the equipment and tools we are used to having in our home kitchen to make gourmet meals to wine time snacks we enjoyed while watching daily glorious sunsets on our balcony watching the waves crash into the lava rocks directly below us.

View was phenomenal! Enjoyed our time in the unit. Things that kept it from being better than good was the front door sticks badly, and the AC still leaves things extremely wet. Yes, I know it's humid, but AC should pull out more of the humidity than this unit does. We did not use the individual units in the living room or bedroom, only the main AC unit.

Aaaamazing! Impeccable view. Walking distance to town (5-7min). Plenty of beach accessories- boogie boards, chairs, umbrella, cooler. Had everything we need on vacation. The only thing that was an issue is the microwave is too small for the square plates provided @ the rental. The only ones that fit in the microwave are round and a little bigger than a saucer plate. I recommend a larger microwave or provide round plates. Definitely not a game changer. Loved the location. Would stay here again. Our parking spot was right below the condo. Up the stairs & your home. No long walking distances. Easy entry makes coming & going a breeze! Loved it!!

Yes, it was dated, but in a quaint way. The property manager was very responsive and helpful. The flaw? No central AC, just two very loud floor units blowing hot air onto the lanai. The BIGGEST charm of the place were those waves, which you could hear even through closed windows, but not if you were running the AC. Fix the AC and we'd be back.

The property was well-appointed with great Hawaiian themed furniture, a big bin of snorkels, boogies boards, etc. and look like it had been somewhat renovated. Some issues with condo: Air conditioning didn't work for 13 out of 14 days we were there, toilet ran if didn't push up handle, oven stove light didn't work. There was a little AC unit in the bedroom that helped a bit during the day, but was still very warm. Third time we've staying in this condo complex and this was the first time we've had this many problems with its maintenance. Considering how much the prices increased from 4 years ago (nearly double), this make the choice to use them again difficult.

This is one of the nicer units on this property. It could use some updates however. It would be helpful to have a grab bar or two in the shower. Replace the toilet with a chair height version. Replace the door. Door knob is loose and door sticks.

The location of this unit is perfect. It's not only oceanfront; it's literally ON the ocean. We loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves. The morning views from the lanai were unbelievable. (If it's sunny, in the afternoon there's too much glare to enjoy the views.) The location is also perfect because, while the unit is on a quiet side street, it's an easy walk to everything in Kailua-Kona--shops, restaurants, historic sites.
The unit is also clean, and most items were in working order. We didn't cook in the unit, so we can't comment on how well equipped the kitchen is.
We knocked a star off our rating for three reasons. First, the lanai looks completely different. It has a good bit of rust, and the carpet and cushions have considerable rust stains. The furniture is not the nice wood pictured, and the cushions are not outdoor fabric that dries quickly after rain.
Second, the living area was photographed with a wide angle lens that made the area look much bigger and lighting that made the unit look brighter than it really is. Note that there is no dining table except on the lanai, which isn't usable when it's raining.
Finally, the unit needs updating in a lot of small ways. For example, the bathroom vent is rusted; the plunger for the bathroom sink stopper was missing; some of the wood floor is water-stained, some of the kitchen window jalousie panels are broken and held in place with scotch tape, the doors and their hardware are tired, kitchen cabinet doors don't all close. Access is by a lockbox holding a key rather than a modern keypad. The bathmats have no rubber backing, which we felt made them a slipping hazard, so we didn't use them. We reported the missing plunger and was told they'd look into it and heard nothing more.
Some context: We spent the week before at an oceanfront condo in Maui that was about the same age as this building, the same price, but in far better condition and accurately pictured. So, while we enjoyed our stay overall, we were a bit disappointed in this unit.

#201 is a corner unit and the lani is much bigger, great view. "The kitchen is well equipped and the furnishings are good.
I had several complaints, one the window in the kitchen was broken along with the shade. The couch(hide a bed) mattress was terrible, the bed had a very difficult time being put back in. therefore, we weren't able to use it.
Other than that, I loved the place, hope they get those things fixed I would rent it again

This was my second stay in this unit and I hope to have a third sometime. It's an end unit so it has a wrap around lanai with great views. It is meticulously maintained and has state of the art appliances and consumer electronics along with every conceivable cooking utensil any cook would want. This may seem like a small point but the parking stall assigned to the unit is directly beneath the condo and next to the stairs which make it very convenient to access. The onsite rental agents, Taina and Tracy, are helpful and responsive.

When we first arrived condo was closed up with a/c on and had a musty/mildew smell. Once we opened up windows and turned on overhead fans it was fine. Other than that it was wonderful. Great views, nice decor , comfy beds, clean. Great place to just relax.

Super easy arrival: parked in the assigned spot, used passcode to open lockbox, and walked right into the space. You immediately see the corner views of the ocean when you walk in. This place is a great place to stay for those who want to be in walking distance to the Kona strip, who might want a fully stocked kitchen, great views, loaded TV package, and a pool for the "stay in and relax" days, and all the equipment for a day at the beach. We had all that we needed - plenty of linens, towels, beach chairs/umbrella/body boards/flippers/snorkel gear. The king bed is comfortable but note: it's noisy and if your partner moves you'll feel it! (not great for light sleepers). We did laundry, which is located at the end of the hall (bring quarters!). Would be lucky to stay here again - might plan our trip around availability.

We have stayed in several units at Hale Kona Kai. Unit 201 has a great lanai. We stayed two weeks at the beginning of Dec. . The view was fantastic, unfortunately no turtles this year. Great location to beaches and shops. The kitchen was well stocked and the bed was comfortable. Were a few small things that needed fixing: the kitchen blinds were broken so we had to use a towel to block the sun and the bathroom sink stopper was broken. Also, it would have been nice to have had some way to play music (boombox, attachment for an iPod). We would recommend staying here but felt the price was a little high.
