The condo is dated, but the location is convenient and the view is a million bucks. You can see all sorts of fish species (and even sea turtles if you're lucky) right from the balcony and bedroom window. The condo has boogie boards, beach mats, beach towels, a parasol and a cooler.

It was an amazing view. Sitting on the porch listening and watching the water below was one of the highlights. The condo was perfect for our stay in Kona.

Great spot right in the ocean so you cna see/hear the ocean all day/night. The unit had everything needed but could use a little updating. Very comfortable space and perfect for 4-7 days.. very close to dining and tourist activities

Two equally awesome factors are being close to downtown Kona and having cozy condo with balcony above the ocean.

This is absolutely the best location if you are looking for a) proximity to the ocean and b) view of the sunset. If you drop a pebble from a arm's length off of the lanai, it will hit the water. The lanai view is almost 160 degrees of ocean, so the (spectacular) sunset is just to the middle-right of your view. In terms of proximity, Hale Kona Kai is a six minute walk to the main Kona strip, so very easy to get to all of the down-town attractions. But it is far enough away from downtown that the street isn't busy or noisy. It is a 10-minute drive to grocery shopping, gas and stores like Walmart and Target. About 20 minutes from Costco, and easy access to Highway 19 / 11, that circumnavigates the island. The apartment and complex is very clean, but does show it age (built in 1972, with some obvious remodeling since). The salt-air has also been hard on it, causing some corosion and damage to surfaces. Items like the loose bathroom door, that were mentioned in previous reviews, were not fixed. As mentioned in the listing (July 2022) the central A/C is broken so the apartment has two portable air conditioners and two large fans. These work fine to keep the unit cool, but cause enough of a din to drown out even the sound of the waves right below. So, our best advice is: if you are looking for a stunning ocean view and proximity, and can sacrifice the feeling of being at a modern property, this is a great find. Mahalo!

I couldn’t have been happier. Will come back and stay here again. Because it was stocked with cooler and snorkeling equipment we were able to explore and try snorkeling for the first time and then we were addicted and did it every day in a new location.

Nice clean place with everything you need. The mirror wall makes it look even spacier. The location is great: a beach and restaurants are a couple of minutes away (walking). Safeway and WM are also very close (driving). I worked from there, and the Internet connection was stable and fast. Couldn't make the TV work, but it didn't bother us because we used our laptops. And of course the ocean is right under your balcony is priceless. One day a cruise ship parked right in front of our balcony. Great memories.

The location was great...short walk to town, but far enough away from all the business noise. View from the balcony was amazing, ocean is right in your face. Short walk to a public beach too where you can watch people surf. Pool was nice, water was a little too cold. Used BBQ once and it worked great. Loved the beach chairs, umbrella and cooler...along with other stuff. Bathroom doorknob is in need of repair and bottom of door is splintering. Toilet seat is loose and moved around. To be fair, we were warned central a/c was broken and portable a/c units were in unit. Portable units worked well, but bedroom unit was too noisy to sleep...we ended up buying ear plugs. Not enough supplies for 12 days as far as toilet paper and trash bags. Utensils and small appliances like coffee maker, coffee grinder and toaster need replacement. Coffee grinder broke when we had 3 days left. I called property management twice (2 separate days) to report problem and get a replacement because we couldn't make coffee. No one called back so we gave up. Coffee maker hotplate is very rusty and pieces are falling off. Toaster works but has damaged elements. Teflon pots and pans are so scratched you'd get teflon in your food if you use them, so we bought a brand new one and left it there. Some homeless people camping in cars by complex, but they are not a problem. One day, we heard yelling and profanity...a homeless man and another man were yelling at each other in parking lot. One morning at 5AM, we heard frantic knocking at our door and we got up. Someone wanted in and obviously had the wrong unit...had to yell at them to leave. The unit was clean and reasonably priced with a nice location. The condo unit and the complex is showing it's age and needs updates and some minor fixes to make it truly enjoyable.

You look out over the lanai and directly below is the surf. The lanai is also perfect for watching sunsets. Great walking location to restaurants and farmers market. Parking location is very convenient.

The location of the condo in Kailua on the ocean was great. The condo building itself is dated and modest. Kitchen was okay. Loved the use of the beach chairs!
