This place was amazing to stay at! My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and we loved every minute!! The hosts were fabulous, easy to talk to, and definitely went above and beyond with leaving us a little gift for our honeymoon. The views were incredible and you open the door/widow and just hear the sounds of the ocean. Very close to "downtown" Kona and you can walk to shops/food. We drove around the island and nothing was too far (except for the other side obviously). The place was VERY spacious, clean, comfortable and came with everything you need!! Would 100% recommend this to anyone! :)

This is the most beautiful unit in the property! The lanai is incredible, feels like you're on a cruise ship! There is a little swimming lagoon next door, walking distance to all the restaurants and shops in town. We will definitely return.

We loved our stay at Hale Kona Kai. The unit was exactly as described, beautifully furnished and decorated, but the crown jewel was the wrap around lanai. The views cannot be beat! We enjoyed the sunset directly from the lanai. The sound of the surf is the perfect lullaby to fall asleep to. Waking up to that view was amazing. The swimming lagoon that is shared with the royal kona Resort is literally steps away from the condo. It appears small but it was never crowded and the rock wall provides a safe sanctuary from the surf. It was safe and relaxing and you can snorkel and see all sorts of fish right there! The town is within walking distance, so you don't have to worry about parking. Just walk! So many great restaurants within walking distance. Huggo's is the closest and it was wonderful. We also loved Papa Kona. The unit is close to everything yet super quiet at night. The parking was easy, covered parking with a marked spot. Just wonderful. I also want to give a shout out to the management company. They were so helpful and extremely accommodating. I called to report an issue with the bed (the bedsprings had come apart) and they resolved it instantly. Just fantastic service. They went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed. Loved this place and would highly recommend it!

Great central Kona location, everything is in walking distance. View is beautiful. Bed was comfortable. Shower pressure was amazing. The condo, both inside and the building itself, it dated. The only reason I gave 4 starts and not 5 was the portable air conditioners in the unit are incredibly loud.

This condo has a great view, and the location can't be beat for walkability, and for providing a central driving location to explore the whole island.
The lanai view is incredible and makes for a lovely morning and evening spot to enjoy the ocean and the sunrise and sunset.
The unit managers are super responsive and helpful, and the unit is stocked with everything you need to cook or explore the beaches.
The only criticisms we would note are that the building is weathered (it is on the ocean, so that is to be expected), the central AC wasn't working (the standalone units were fine for us though), some of the furnishings could be upgraded to help make the place feel more luxurious to match that fabulous view (living area furniture and pillows/linens), and the saltwater pool is not heated as advertised (the property manager said it used to be, but that they were not planning to repair it).
However, regardless of the criticisms, this is still a great value and a great unit in a perfect location for enjoying the island and the views can't be beat. I'd recommend it and think it is a good value for a vacation to the Big Island.

The property is in a fantastic location with a full ocean front view of the Pacific. Close to restaurants and also not too far away from the Kona airport. Perfect for a couple! The kitchen has all necessary utensils if you are inclined to cook your own meals. While we were not promised any condiments, we did find some of the basic ones such as salt, sugar, pepper etc. The host had also provided a complimentary packet of local coffee beans with a grinder which was awesome and lasted for all 6 days. There were enough towels provided in the bathroom. The bedroom has a comfortable kingsize bed and plenty of drawers to store them. It was a little hot and there was no central air-conditioning, however there were powerful portable ACs provided for the living room and the bedroom. An assigned covered parking spot for one car is also provided, in which an SUV can easily fit. There was a couple of times when the electric circuits tripped due to the use of hair dryer but the property manager rectified that within 10 minutes. The furniture could be a little more updated but no complaints. Overall a very good property and a very pleasant stay. I would stay here again.

The view is amazing !!!
There were a few problems however:
1.) About (1) month before we arrived we were notified
that the Central A/C was not working.
We were given the option to have (2) Room A/C Units installed in the unit, in the Living Room and the
Bedroom.
To be very honest in this review, the owners did give
us a ($ 224.85), which was a 15 % discount for the
A/C not working, only after I pushed back on the
10% that they offered when I said that we didn't book a unit with no Central A/C..
The portable units were installed when we arrived, they did cool the unit, however they are so loud, you can't hear the ocean right outside of the unit.
We go to Hawaii every year to hear the ocean, not any kind of loud sounds !!!
Also, the Living Room unit is installed in such a way that the sliding door CANNOT be locked. This made us super nervous, as we're not in the habit of leaving our hotel room door, unlocked when we leave for the day !!!
The discount was not enough for no Central A/C !
2.) The entire unit needs to be updated very
badly.
There is rust everywhere in the unit.
3.) The shower head is OK if you're 5' tall or shorter.
4.) The rugs in the bathroom are dangerous, and are
anything but Non-Slip rugs. They need to be replaced.
5.) The (2) TV's are vastly undersized for this day and
age.
6.) The TV in the bedroom is almost impossible to turn on with the (2) remotes.
7.) The couch in the LR is old and needs to be replaced

Shabby old scratchy towels. For such a beautiful location we were expecting more lavish accommodations. Sounds of waves outside condo very soothing. Sorry to see so many homeless and lots of police activity!

Overall our experience there was good. We checked into our unit on the 15th, upon arrival half of the rooms power was out. The restroom, bedroom and half the living room had no power. The issue was resolved the following afternoon however this impacted our stay as the AC units were down, lights in the unit were out making it difficult to get around, and also the Internet disrupted which impacted our ability to connect for work and resulted in cancellations of meetings. We tried connecting with the host but had no success. We never we were able to connect to the Internet. We are hoping VRBO can work with the host to compensate a partial refund. Thank you

An easy walk to everything in Kona, this condo has a spacious oceanfront lanai that is perfect for relaxing and listening to the waves. The furnishings are comfortable and the built in desk in the bedroom was perfect for remote working. Easy parking, checkin and check out. Quiet and peaceful.

We loved #313 @ Hale Kona Kai. Such great views of the ocean and sunsets in the evening. And it's easy to walk down town to grab some food, drinks or the ABC store. You can also walk to a nice litte beach just south of the condo...just take the chairs, cooler and umbrella in the closet and you're set! The property management company kept us in the loop with the new flooring construction in the common hallways and the broken a/c. We kept the portable a/c's on during the day, but turned them off at night and opened the windows to listen to the ocean waves and cool breezes. Not fancy inside and could use an update, but we definitely felt at home. We will definitely stay here again!

This property has by far the best view of any I’ve stayed at! My husband and I sat out in the beautiful wrap around porch the entire first day, transfixed by the beauty! We only left to grab food and bring it back to eat on the porch. Recommend 1000%!

We truly enjoyed the lanai, and the proximity to town was great.
The inside of the condo has pretty much all you need to survive in Hawaii. Our friends stayed in another condo same property, and although their condo was much more updated, our condo had the best view!

Prior to checking in we were told that the air conditioning wasn’t working. Glad that they were upfront with this, but that gave us a false sense of security. The said the hoped to have it fixed by Oct 5, 2 days into out 9 night stay. They said that fans plus ceiling fan should keep us comfortable. With that expectation, we check in, only to find out that there was no way that the air conditioning was going to be fixed during our stay. We did not find this out until we committed for 2 nites. Had we know that, we would never have check in, and paid cleaning, booking and damage waiver fees. Not to mention (but I will) we had to pay full 9 night’s worth of VRBO fees for the 2 nites. So upset at the dishonestly. I guess we should count ourselves lucky to get a partial refund. The ceiling fans were a joke - they moved zero air. We entered the room at check in time and immediately found that the bed was broken and unusable. We were told that they couldn’t fix it, and we had to live with it until that could get someone to deal with it next day. What?? A neighbor put a stack of books under it. It wasn’t fixed while we were there. The place is a bit rundown, decor felt like ‘80s yard sell. We could have lived with that, but add up all the other stuff. Forget it… we never staying in this complex again (sad to see poor maintenance in a building in a prime location), and we never want to deal with the Kona Now management ever again.

Location is fantastic. Walking distance to restaurants etc. A/C was not working but we were ok with fans and open windows as there was nice breeze by ocean. They were kind enough to refund portion for that issue.

We just stayed one night at the condo due to the air conditioning was broken. We loved the view of our room. We unfortunately could not stay the week without AC so we moved to a hotel. I would like to say how the wonderful and understanding the management of the property was and refunded our money. Thank you for all your help

The condo was very eclectic. It had everything we needed but most of the furniture, kitchen supplies, and wall hangings were old. The condo had some newer remodel work completed including bathroom, kitchen, and floor. The air conditioning worked really well and the view is outstanding. It feels like we were living over the ocean crashing under us. Overall, we enjoyed our 2 week stay in this one bedroom condo.

This was a 5-star rental, with 1 exception! The condo was clean, check-in and check-out were simple, and the ocean view from the lanai was ASTOUNDING. Walking distance to stores, but not so close that it was noisy. The kitchen was well stocked, and there were beach supplies in the closet that were a great surprise! The WiFi wasn’t working when we arrived, but their support team called back within an hour and had it going for us!
Literally our only complaint was that the sheets were terribly tattered, rough, and uncomfortable. I generally wouldn’t dock a star just for that one thing. HOWEVER, there are multiple reviews (even going back several years) with the same complaint and suggestions to update the bedding situation. Especially since sheets are not a terribly expensive thing to update. Hopefully they can update those sheets ASAP, then we would gladly book many more nights at this wonderful retreat. :)
