If You're looking for a family friendly area. The area: It's very "touristy" with lots of families roaming around and lots of kids. There's a lot of homeless people in all the public areas but they mind their own for the most part. A good selection of restaurants and other offerings all a short walk away. We had a Turo car so we preferred to explored the Islands other areas. Now for the condo. The Good: The staff was very helpful and there was a nice welcome card and complimentary snack that were nice. It was clean and functional. It had all the necessities and in our opinion okay for a short stay. It is an "ocean front"property and there is a usable beach within a 5 minute walk. The Bad: No Central Air conditioning. We could not enjoy the ocean sounds because the Portable Air Conditioners (1 In Living Room, 1 in Bedroom) are loud and really struggle to cool the spaces. As of our stay dates the bed was very uncomfortable. It's super firm and kind of a cheap springy bed. "We" woke up tired every day from not getting any good sleep. So much so we left a day early to check in to the Hilton in Waikoloa literally so we could have one good nights rest. Over all it was good, if the owners would invest in the Air conditioning and a good bed or mattress and better bedding it would be fantastic!

We have very much appreciated our stay in this apartment and its central location right next to the oldest part of Rome. Our appreciation: it is spacious (for a family of four), comfortable (quality bedroom equipment and relaxing furniture), a big well equipped and clean main bathroom, a clean kitchen with sufficient equipment for breakfast and preparing meals in the evening – we had rather cold and rainy weather and decided to stay inside for dinner. We really appreciated that everyday items like kitchen roll, dishwashing liquid, coffee, salt & pepper and lots of other small items you’d normally buy upon arrival were already available. Wifi was perfect – a good internet connection makes life so much easier. A lot of travel guide books about Rome (and Italy) were available, too, all in English language. Heating and warm water all good, we were neither cold nor hot, just fine on rather cold evenings. Upon arrival we were welcomed by Gianluca who kindly and competently explained us how everything worked in the apartment, leaving was uncomplicated, upon departure we just left the keys in the apartment and closed the door behind us. Arrival and departure using public transportation is perfectly fine, the trip to the airport took just under 1.5h with the Leonardo express and a short trip on the subway from Colosseo station to Rome Termini railway station. We'd love to come to Rome and we will definitely consider this apartment again !

Beautiful couples vacation condo with ocean 25 feet in front of balcony. Updated, clean, with all the amenities you need. Pool side is awesome and laid back, never had to try and find or hoard a spot early. Walking distance to many wonderful restaurants and shops. Parking spot was nice to have since it’s crowded street.

Well-appointed unit overlooking the pool and ocean. The kitchen was well-equipped and the host provided all the necessary items for our stay. I would add one thing, a security chain on the door. The key to our unit (only one provided) did not say on it Do Not Duplicate so others could have a key. thank you Lisa

Waves crashing less than 50 feet from the balcony more than made up for the lack of central AC.

I’ve stayed at this property many years ago, and so I knew I what to expect… as I love seeing and hearing the ocean from my bed and lanai. This particular unit was clean, well kept, and lovely. Because it is oceanfront and not beachfront, please expect it to be loud. My friend could not stand it, so he kept the window and blinds closed in the bedroom. It was like a dungeon… hahahaha. I opted to sleep on the couch so that I could sleep with the sliding glass door open. If you’re a diver, it’s within walking distance to Jack’s Diving Locker and an easy drive to the harbor. The only slight pain is the parking, as the alleyway for some units is tight, so be prepared to do many 3 point turns if all the spaces next to you is taken (as it was easier for us to back the car into the spot). I stayed previously in a unit whose parking spot was in the larger parking lot. So it all depends on which unit u pick. But parking got easier over time for us. Also, not sure how the floor between the toilet and shower stall keeps getting wet cuz we would close the shower glass doors… so just beware that this happens BUT the shower is absolutely lovely and the water pressure is heavenly! I’d definitely stay here again! They also give you welcome treats, which was a delightful surprise. :)

Condo seemed much smaller and older than in the pictures, but it was right on the ocean with beautiful views. Also washer and dryer not in the apartment which was my assumption. And a very large cockroach in the closet made me feel uneasy.

A wonderful stay. My only suggestion would be adding a retractable clothesline in bathtub or hooks for wet clothing.

We were notified just a couple days prior to our arrival date that the unit's AC was broken and being fixed with no set date/time on when it will be done. We had very little time to find other accommdations. There is a portable unit in the bedroom which works well, but the rest of the unit was extremely hot and humid. It was very uncomfortable even with the two fans at full blast. Their internet was not on the wifi list at all even when we looked it up manually. When we called the management office, no one answered. We checked their office throughout the day/week, they were never open. We finally sent an email and they responded with the same info we had in the unit...and that if it doesn't work, to call them. It didn't work...we called and no one answered. Other issues...Wine opener was broken, non-stick frying pans were beat to hell and all of their knives were serrated which do not cut very well. Not even a tomato. Overall, we enjoyed the ocean view from the balcony, but everything else was subpar. I hope they improve their communication and management skills.

This property is in a prime location as it is walking distance to the main strip of Kailua and is next to the Royal Kona Resort (they have a nice outdoor bar), Huggo's, and Huggo's on the Rocks (we prefer this location to the formal restaurant). This unit is very modern and has beautiful décor throughout. The balcony looks over the pool and of course, the stunning ocean view. This may have been user-error but we could not figure out how to turn the light on over the stove so it was a bit dark in that corner trying to cook at times. Additionally, the AC system was completely out in the whole complex while were there but management did bring some extra fans and we were reimbursed a small percentage of our daily rate for the days without AC. The manager on-site tends to run a lot of errands and is seemingly away from the front desk often, although this may have just been a case of continuous bad timing. Overall, great unit and we definitely recommend staying here!

We had a fantastic experience at this condo in Kona! The location can’t be beat, and the place has more than enough space for a couple to spread out a bit. Pictures don’t do the views from the lanai justice, you need to experience it for yourself! We ate out most of the time, but the pantry is probably lacking a bit for those that want a more “at-home” experience (just need to buy spices, oil, etc.; the pots and pans are well stocked). Overall we are very happy with our stay, and will absolutely be recommending this location to friends and family that want to visit the Big Island!

The location is perfect! The balcony is right next to the beach so you can hear the waves crashing while falling sleep. Felt like you were sleeping on the beach. We were super unlucky though. When we arrived the AC wasn’t working and we were not contacted before so I kept trying to get it to work but it wouldn’t. We called the manager and they told us the AC has been out for the whole building. It would’ve been good to know in advance. Anyway, we went three nights without any AC. It was SOOOOO hot!! We were on the second floor and neighbors and people at the pool can see right into our unit so privacy was difficult since we had to leave the windows open to even breathe. We ended up having to leave the front door open also while we were sleeping because it was so hot. I got anxiety thinking someone was going to walk in. They finally brought us a portable AC on day 3, I believe but it didn’t worn that night. My Bf had to dump out the water from the back for it to work on the forth night but it was very loud. We were planning on this being a romantic vacation but it was just so hot to do super romantic things. Anyway, the did refund us 20% which was very nice and appreciated. I would stay again if the AC was working. The unit did have everything you need and more, including umbrellas and everything you need for the beach so that was lovely. The manager and owner were nice and did work to try to resolve the AC issue but something about ordering a part. I would def recommend once the AC starts working again.

Clean and very functional/comfortable. Location is stellar - walk to all restaurants as shops in Kialua-Kona village. Great that there’s a designated parking spot at the condo (very busy and congested area). Kitchen has plenty of dishes, glasses, utensils, everything needed to cook as much as desired. There were only a couple of small suggestions I would make: 1. Leave some cabinet space empty in the kitchen for storing purchased food items (all cabinets were totally full). 2. The DVD player would be more useful in the living room than in the bedroom. We brought some DVD’s but didn’t want to watch them sitting on the bed. 3. Additional instruction on how to use the tv’s and cable/streaming options would be nice. As people in the 65-70 yo age range who don’t stream at home, we were very confused and frustrated by the complexity of the remotes (several) in the living room, and overwhelmed by the hundreds of options we knew nothing about. 4. An electric kettle or at least a better teapot might be appreciated. That said, it was great, view was spectacular, we even had a turtle stay in one of the tide pools right outside the unit, and saw some dolphins just off shore! It was a great week!

We had a wonderful stay in unit 206! The condo had a beautiful view; you can't beat waking up to the sound of waves! It also had everything we needed to prepare food and wash dishes and clothes. There. was even a cooler and 2 beach chairs that we used to enjoy our time at the beach! We were also happy that this unit had an air conditioner that functioned well. We loved our time at Hale Kona Kai and will definitely return!

We enjoyed being able to walk to restaurants and still have a quiet location right on the coastal lava. Our unit had a view and a king sized bed both important to us for our vacation.

This was the second time I have stayed there. The location is unbeatable. Listening to the ocean right outside your apartment is magic. The apartment itself was quite comfortable. I would certainly consider staying there again on my next trip.

April 2018
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hale Kona Kai. The location in walking proximity to restaurants and shops was what we were looking for and the ocean views with the sound of the waves just outside the window were a treat. We didn't have any issues so didn't need to interact with management at all but was nice to have on site office with daily hours, just in case. Mahalo for a great stay.

The property was great, clean, nice in the unit, great views and the pool was great. Worked perfect for us and our overall experience would have us back for sure. We stayed in three different locations while we were on the island and this was one of the two we liked best (The other one was a house in Kapohoe for reference) Thanks Adeline for being patient early on when we were trying to put this last minute trip together!

Note: Vacancy calendar is approximate. Visit the owner/manager's reservation site to verify your dates.
