Kanai A Nalu (“Gentle Breeze”) is located in Maalaea; a place often called “Maui’s best kept secret”. Our condo is direct OCEANFRONT, BEACHFRONT! You simply cannot get any closer to the ocean than our beautifully upgraded, ground floor unit!

From the lanai, gaze out and watch the sun rise over Haleakala (House of the Sun), the long dormant 10,000 foot volcano. Watch green sea turtles bobbing up for air and rolling in the surf, even sunning themselves on the beach. In the winter months (Nov-April) you will have a front row seat to breaching whales as they come back to the islands to give birth and nurse their young in the warm Hawaiian waters. In the summer months during a good south swell, you can watch surfers on the legendary surf break “Freight Trains”, one of the world’s fastest surfable waves.

Brew yourself a cup of freshly ground Kona coffee and make up a plate of local papaya, mango and bananas and sit out on the lanai with the Pacific Ocean just steps away. Why settle for less when you’ve come all this way to experience paradise?

You may find that a week (or even a month) is not enough time to fully appreciate this place. We welcome long-term renters, retirees and snowbirds to come and stay awhile!
Kids are welcome too: we provide the playpen, highchair and beach toys. They’ll love swimming in the complex pool and picking bananas from the tree right beside the lanai!

Be one of the first to enjoy our recently remodeled ground floor 2 bed, 2 bath condo. Travertine floors throughout, new granite countertops and all new furnishings. Details are important to us, that is why we transported unique lighting fixtures thousands of miles in our suitcases and made custom accent bedding and pillows for the bedrooms. We’ve installed some great perks like electric blinds, plantation shutters and a wine cooler. Even the things that may not be noticeable like quality fixtures, nice doors and a good quiet garbage disposal all work together to create a luxurious feeling.
On top of that we filled the space with original local art from Maui artisans. In the living room, we have showcased the beautiful fine art photography of Christopher Eagan (Lahaina). In the kitchen we had 2 large custom tile mosaics crafted by Makena Tile. In the master bath, a floor to ceiling bamboo design in etched tile by Janie Aldrige.

The Master Suite is truly a oceanfront retreat, with a King sized platform bed, flat screen TV and decadent white bedding with custom accent pillows. The Master bath is luxurious with a huge walk-in shower and double vanities with wall to wall mirrors reflecting all the beautiful surroundings and ocean views.
Before bed, take one last look at the moonlight shimmering on the Pacific and fall asleep listening to the rhythmic sound of the surf.
The guest bedroom has 2 Tommy Bahama styled twin beds with gel foam mattress toppers, clean crisp white bedding and custom made accent linens made from vintage Alfred Shaheen (the man behind the iconic Hawaiian Shirts) fabrics. The bedroom also has a small flat screen TV with cable and a cooling ceiling fan.

The kitchen of our condo is well equipped for those who want to cook and Kanai A Nalu has a BBQ area near the heated pool located in the center of the complex.
Our unit offers guests free long distance within the US and Canada as well as secure, high speed WiFi. 42” Flat screen TV with cable.
Maalaea’s trade winds provide a cooling breeze that keeps the temperatures just right, although we have a timer controlled A/C in the living room just in case.

We provide the beach toys, snorkel sets, boogie boards, skim board, sand toys & beach chairs...so grab some toys and explore your eco-diverse surroundings. Amazing boogie boarding, paddle boarding and snorkeling right in front of our unit!
20 steps off the lanai, and your toes are in the sand of one of Maui’s longest beaches. 4 miles of secluded sand to walk, run and beachcomb. You won’t find any crowds though because access to the beach is protected from the road by the bird-filled-ponds of Kealia Wildlife Refuge. It is so amazing to walk this beach and literally feel like you have it all to yourself!

A 5 minute walk in the opposite direction takes you to Maalaea Harbor where you will find a small grocery store, deli, craft market, restaurants and the Maui Ocean Center (Maui’s #1 tourist attraction), the Pacific Whale Foundation, miniature golf, shopping and most of the ocean activities available on Maui (sunset dinner cruises, deep sea fishing, snorkeling tours & whale watching).
Centrally located Maalaea, makes getting anywhere on the island easy. 15 minutes from the airport, a 5 minute drive south and you are in the long village of Kihei and a bit further, the ritzy resorts of Wailea. Twenty minutes to the west is the old whaling village of Lahaina, with it’s magnificent Banyan Tree and shopping galleries. You couldn’t be in a better location to explore all Maui has to offer.

We stayed at the McKenna condo for 10 nights and it was very well equipped with everything we needed for a great stay. You cannot beat the view in addition with being on the ground floor, we loved it. The ocean is right there and falling asleep to the waves crashing every night was so relaxing. The complex was busy but we never had any noise issues and there was always plenty of space to spread out at the pool and beach. Todd and Cindy were quick to respond to any questions or issues we had. It was a great stay, thank you for hosting us!!

Although Maui is going through a tough time, there were no shortage of things to do and we went on several excursions. The condo is centrally located which made travel to events simple. There are a few shops, restaurants, boating excursions, and the Maui Ocean Aqrarium at the Maalaea Harbor which are within walking distance from the condo. Although there is a sea wall directly in front of the condo, the access to the beautiful beach is only steps away with great swimming, snorkeling, and long beach walks available. The condo is stocked with beach equipment making beach days very enjoyable. We were sorry to leave but definitely will be back. The third island of our trip was Maui and we rented Cindy & Todd's apartment. The very high quality and lovingly furnished apartment is definitely significantly higher than the standard. The very understanding landlords are easy to reach and respond to questions very promptly. Beach equipment such as chairs, boards and snorkeling equipment are available for use. Everything was clean and tidy, it was tastefully arranged with island vibe furniture and decor. The beds were comfy. The tile work was beautiful. After visiting many spots on the island I recognized the local artwork hanging on the walls! Sitting on the lanai, drinking coffee, listening to the waves crash while turtles bobbed in the surf gave you that ahhhh feeling. We never needed the a/c but still nice to know it was an option. Everything was stocked except body soap but we brought our own. The kitchen had all the spices, condiments and even bottled water the previous vacationers left. The unit was quiet, the neighbors were friendly. The extremely short walk and step over a rope to the beach was fantastic. Someone with mobility issues would not be able to access the beach though. We snorkeled and kids had fun boogie boarding in the surf. I loved that Maalaea was centrally located to all the major hotspots like Kihei/Wailea, Kaanapali and Paia. Within a 20-30 min walk is the harbor with some cute shops, 2 restaurants and the Maui Ocean Center. Tantè’s Happy Hour Mai Tai’s $3.50!! We loved this condo! We got “Maui’d” as well! Thank you for of the hard work you put forth to make all of our vacations memorable 🌺

The ground floor lenai is perfect for having your coffee while watching the whales swim in the Bay. The location is central to everything so we did not have to travel a great distance to see most of the sites. There are numerous beaches within 5 10 15 minutes. The beach towels, snorkeling equipment, and boogie boards were a big plus. Todd responded right away With any questions that we had. We would definitely recommend this property for your stay. This condo was absolutely perfect for us. The location is excellent and allows easy access to anywhere on the island. We drove south and north and west..all easy! Everything was super clean. I loved all the small details and what they had available. I even found bandaids in the bathroom! We would definitely stay here again and again!

What a perfect hidden gem! This condo was fantastic. It was clean and well stocked with basic kitchen items and paper products which was an unexpected bonus. The beach is just steps away from the lanai. We saw and swam with so many turtles. It was incredible. Todd and Cindy also sent a guide via email about 2 weeks before our arrival with lots of helpful information and it really set the tone for one of our best vacations. I would absolutely stay here again.

The condo itself is very well-appointed with comfortable beds and furniture. The location within the complex is great, being literally 30 feet from the oceans edge and the complex itself is well maintained and very nice. The location of the complex is great for those who want to be able to walk straight down onto the beach--and then continue walking for miles, if they want. Also, the harbor and aquarium are just a half a mile away, making access to snorkeling and whale watching boats very easy.

This was a beautiful property. We loved being right on the ocean…sleeping to the sounds of the waves and waking up to look straight out to the ocean. We didn’t see whales as they were gone for the season but we had expected that. The beach was great for walking and sitting with shaded areas available. There wasn’t much beach space right in front of the condo but plenty of beautiful beach just a few steps to the left as you walked out. The condo was exceptionally well stocked with all that we needed including beach items - boogie boards, snorkels, and beach chairs. Games were also available and books about Hawaii and Maui. VERY clean and very comfortable beds. The location is quiet, which was nice, but there was not very much in walking distance for places to eat (although the Aquarium was within walking distance). We had to plan ahead for meals out in Kihei (15-20 min away) or Lihaina (30 min away). Kahului (airport and Costco and many other big stores) is also 15 min drive. Mahalo for sharing this lovely property!

Sit on the deck and watch the whales in the bay, walk for miles down the beautiful beach and look for shells, sea turtles and dolphins. This place is the perfect peaceful getaway. Striking distance to restaurants and activities in Lahaina, Kihei and kaanapali, but away from the crowds. This was our best Maui vacation yet!

This place is immaculate. It's super clean right on the beach and easy access to everything. It's very close to Kehei. Takes about 20 to 30 minutes to drive to Lahaina and the drive is gorgeous. Every morning I sat on the lanai and watched the whales as I drank coffee... pure happiness! They have done so much to update, decorate and make sure that you have everything you need while at their place. Zero complaints!!

Very clean, with everything in great condition. Many conveniences like toaster, blender, coffee maker, beach chairs, towels, a couple boogie boards, etc. Walk out the back, and the ocean is right there. Walk 40 more feet and you're on a pretty, uncrowded beach. Small back patio with chairs and a table looks right out onto the ocean. One of the unexpected advantages of this condo is the perfect location on the island. It is perfectly situated between the sights in the west, the south, and upcountry. If I ever make it back to Maui, I'll try to stay here again!

We loved our week at Todd and Cindy’s condo. The first floor walk-out location was perfect. So amazing to have the ocean so close. We loved taking our three month old baby for a dip in the pool too. The washer and dryer was a lifesaver and the kitchen was very well stocked. We definitely got a good breeze with the front and back windows open, but it did get a little warm for our baby, especially when we first arrived and the unit had been closed up. This would not be an issue for most, but a little hard with a baby. Once we got some good airflow, it was all good. Todd and Cindy were super responsive and helpful with any questions. We were traveling with extended family who rented two other units and we definitely had the best one!

I’ve been staying in the condos at Kanai a Nalu for 30+ years and I can say this unit is top notch. Beautifully updated, well appointed, bright, airy and open. TVs in every room (which is rare) but perfect as you try to adjust to Hawaii time. Walk out onto the lanai to take a mere 20 steps across the grass to be directly ocean front. It’s quiet and peaceful and a great place for a family vacation. I can’t say enough but would gladly come back!

The McKenna condo at Kana’i A Nalu near Maalaea Harbor was the perfect place to stay for our family of four on Maui. The location felt very central. 20 minutes to the airport, 25 minutes to Lahaina, and 20 minutes to Wailea. We loved the ground floor, ocean front location of the unit. Step out of the lanai onto the grass, and the surf is less than 20 feet away. Communication with Todd and Cindy was great leading up to our stay. They provide a virtual guidebook with information about the condo, the complex, and surrounding area. Checking in was a breeze. The condo is even better than the listing. Todd and Cindy have it well decorated and appointed. You feel like you are on a Hawaiian vacation here. Fully stocked kitchen and pantry, beach towels and 4 Tommy Bahama beach chairs. There was only one boogie board and only two snorkels for the 4 masks, but there is a Boss Frog’s only 2 minutes away to stock up on additional equipment. The condo has A/C, fast wifi, cable tv, ceiling fans, drip coffee maker, filtered water and ice, laundry in unit, reusable bags for grocery store runs, and a safe for valuables. The condo was sparkling clean when we arrived. The grounds of the complex are well taken care of, including the swimming pool, grills for beach front bbq’s, and a handy trash and recycling area. There’s even a spot to wash your rental car if you so choose. The condo faces South with beautiful views of Haleakala to the East, Molokini Crater straight out, and the West Maui mountains to the West. This area is right under the flight path for arriving flights into OGG, so air traffic is fairly steady all day, but it was kind of fun watching all of the flights coming in. The ocean is accessible down some steps of the sea wall. There is a small barrier up, due to the crumbling sea wall, but there is access directly next to the outdoor shower, just to the right of the lanai. A buoy marks a still channel where we snorkeled and swam. There are some rocks, normal for Maui beaches, so wear water shoes or fins when you enter. Waves break to either side of the channel, and people were surfing and boogie boarding every day. There is also a stretch of beach to walk along, down to a board walk at the Preserve area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Todd & Cindy’s. The value, location, amenities, and quieter feel of this part of the island were perfect. We look forward to our next stay!! Mahalo!

The condo is perfect! We enjoyed every day! The beautiful beach is right out the back door. The beach is great for swimming, snorkeling, bodyboarding, relaxing and watching the turtles swim! The breeze keeps It cool enough to be very comfortable! The condo is super clean and well stocked with everything one would need! The public bbq grills are clean and work great! We used them multiple times and met some great people there! The unit is centrally located to go anywhere on the island! From Makena Beach(amazing),the Road to Hana(must do), to Ka’anapali and every place in between! Very Happy!

The website accurately depicted the condo and its features. This home is extremely well cared for and the owners try to anticipate all the needs of their guests. The linens and beds are luxurious and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you might need. We loved how it looked online but loved it even more in person. It was very important to us that we had a convenient location to the beach and this ground floor condo was exactly what we wanted. The entire complex is great, the pool and BBQs are close by and give a great view of the ocean. We could not have been happier during our stay. We highly recommend this condo.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the condo! Positively, Todd and Cindy were very responsive, communicative, and gracious hosts (especially in allowing us both an early/late check out!), and the condo came complete with a number of thoughtful touches and amenities that enhanced our stay (e.g., beach gear, toiletries, new appliances, smart TV, etc.). In addition, the condo is centrally located to the island, which made exploring different parts of the island easy, and the view off the patio is delightful! Two more negative issues: 1) while the particular condo was very nice, clean, and updated, the overall complex itself seemed past its prime (e.g., the unit next to ours was undergoing significant construction that led to our water being shut off during our stay, and the direct beach access was roped off as closed due to a crumbling concrete sea wall that was also an eyesore) 2) While the beach was obviously close, it is also full of underwater rocks that make near-shore activities like swimming, body surfing, etc. less than ideal (though we did see many folks doing deeper-water surfing, SUP-boarding, etc.). As such we spent almost no time there and instead ended up driving to many other beaches across the island. Of course, there’s nothing the hosts can do about this, but it just wasn’t the kind of beach we were expecting/looking forward in choosing the property.

If a view and ocean access are your priorities, then your search ends here. It doesn’t get any better than this. The condo is clean and very well appointed: stocked kitchen supplies, beach towels, scuba gear, and beach chairs. Highly recommend!
