Honua Kai #537: This 595-square-foot 5th-floor fully equipped studio in the Konea Tower of North Kaanapali at Honua Kai Resort.

Sliding glass doors enable guests to enjoy the breeze throughout the studio or from their private lanai. There is seating for three guests around a table.

Adjacent to the lanai is the main living space, where there is a plush sofa and table perfect for a game of cards or adventure planning. The sofa converts into a double sleeper sofa.

Overall the property Honua Kai is great, but I would advise against this particular room. This place hasn’t had a deep clean in years. The carpet was filthy. The walls above the bed, curtains, tables etc were literally covered in a thick layer of dust. It really was gross thinking about what they actually do or do not clean after each guest. The sink doesn’t even have a disposal which can be hard when you are cooking and cleaning. The bathroom has horrible lighting and the portable mirror in the closet didn’t even work. The bed didn’t even have a comforter and there was no extra blanket which is odd considering there’s a fold out couch. Oh ya, we found 2 cockroaches just roaming the room also…. The ac doesn’t work well. There were some hand written instructions written on a scratch piece of paper on how to work it, but when followed still didn’t work. We had to contact them to come fix it only to have them come hours later than they said they would and tell us they needed someone from the actual property of Honua Kai to come and Fix it…. I hate complaining, but I would have appreciated this honest review prior to booking. I would definitely stay at Honua aKai again but not this room!

In a nutshell, had a few issues (lights out, air not working properly, shower not clean, safe broken, layers of dust on curtains, etc-overall unit not being maintained much) customer service was non existent when calling for assistance. Reached out direct after retuning (currently more than 1 week later) and still haven't received a response. Sorry, just can't recommend renting through this particular manager. That said, we have stayed MANY times in the past at this resort/condo & HIGHLY recommend Honua Kai, just pick a different unit & owner.

Condo was very cozy and perfect for 2 people. Bed and linens were amazing and having a full kitchen was perfect! We did have a few maintenance issues while we were there, but with a phone call they were quickly resolved. The carpet could have use a good cleaning and the curtain to the lanai needed repaired or replaced. Neither took away from our visit, but would help with the initial impression. All and all we really enjoyed our visit and would definitely stay here again.

Clean facilities with super friendly staff. Beautiful resort with so many ways to enjoy Hawaii, too little time. Area was in the perfect location. Only drawback was lack of self parking spaces, free valet was nice though. Just took a couple extra minutes. Will definitely be back!

It was lovely to look at; but for a pair of seniors, it was noisy, inside and outside. Many hollering kids, running in the halls, screaming in the pools, the lazy river has no current so it's not really a river. The pools were crowded and you couldn't find pool chairs if you came out after lunch. Loved having Dukes on site! Great store, wonderful furnishings in the room, beautiful bathroom, large kitchen and living/studio room, but the room was made for a couple; so there were 2 teaspoons, 2 soup spoons, 2 dinner forks, 2 dessert forks, 2 chipped lunch plates. So every time we ate we had to hand wash the dishes to use them before we could eat again. Having 6+ silverware place settings/dishes would be so much more useful . We only used the dishwasher when we left because it was never full. Great washer dryer. Check-in was confusing. The email that was sent contradicted itself. Go directly to the resort. Stop by the office in Lahaina to get your keys/bands. We never received an actual code to the door until we called at the resort. They said it was in the email, but it wasn't in the one we received. I don't know if the owners are aware of the Property managers care of the condo experience. They might not be too pleased.

Location was perfect, easy access to the beach and doesn’t hurt to have Duke’s Restaurant right on the property! Perfect for my husband and I to celebrate our Anniversary. Great kitchen, stocked with all you need, Fridge, stove/ oven, dishwasher.. dishes, silverware, cookware and plenty of room to move around... Nice king Bed, good size bathroom with shower & separate tub... another plus is the stacked washer & dryer... also provides beach chairs & umbrella. It also has a nice balcony for late afternoon/early evening pupu’s and drinks... view of the ocean as well! We absolutely loved this property. It exceeded our expectations with the gorgeous view, location, and onsite accommodations. The condo itself was spacious and clean with great add ons like boogie boards, beach chairs, towels, etc. Not sure if we will return to Maui in general but if we do this is absolutely where we would want to stay. We did have issues with the dryer not working and the AC turns off every time you open the back door so you have to keep resetting it if you go outside even for a minute. These were very small inconveniences that did not make our trip any less enjoyable but would have been helpful to know up front. We were disappointed in the check in process as the room was scheduled to be ready by 3pm. We received a call right at 3pm stating the cleaning team had not even started and would need another 20 minutes. We received another call after that around 4pm stating it still was not ready. Luckily we had just gone off site to find dinner but it was frustrating getting the communication so late notice. We also got the sense this is a common occurrence with this property management company who when we tried to reach them earlier in the day regarding another question they were challenging to reach by phone by then would respond by email not fully answering the question. There was just a lot of confusion here.

We had a fantastic stay. Apartment was the perfect size for 2 people . Great facilities & friendly staff. Reasonable pricing when booked early . Communication was generally good but the app they ask you to use is out of date & not necessary. Caused confusion for check in but it was sorted in time. Clean, accurately described on site, great location and convenient general store in lobby. ONLY feedback is there is DSL internet, didn’t know DSL still existed. If we had children, streaming on iPads would be a no go. Other than that unit was perfect.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I have used Chasin Rainbows numerous times in the past as was incredibly disappointed with the entire experience this time. RE: the unit~ needs maintenance. The pro's: good bed, nice kitchen, nice resort. The cons: The shower never worked even though they sent maintenance twice (shower valve needs a new cartridge~ it can't stay on warm when you try to set the handle, drops to scalding hot when you go past cold), there was someone else's underwear and socks in the washer when we went to use them, housekeeping was still trying to clean when we got there at 4:30 even though check in was @ 3. Curtains and screen were broken and falling off. You have to have maintenance adjust the A/C because it is locked to change temp and it was set to a high temp so we cooked the first two nights. Most of all though, dealing with Chasin Rainbows. I tried multiple times to reach the guest service manager at Chasin Rainbows, and never received a call back after his first message returning my first call (I called 3 more times after that to try to connect with him re: the unit and experience). We gave up at that point and just made the most of it. I will not use them again and do not recommend them. Wish we would have booked at the Hyatt like we initially considered.

Bad: Deck sliding screen broken, not functional. No instructions for A/C, arrival 7pm unit uncomfortably hot. Call for service. Office closed, leave message. Miserable night. Thermostat is unlike anything I've seen. Indecipherable. Read unit instruction notebook I see that A/C turns off if Deck door is open. Great. Make sure door is closed. Still no air. Next day is Thanksgiving. No one ever calls back. 2nd night miserably hot. It was late Friday before we heard from anyone. Among other things we were told the maintenance person who responded while we were out found the Deck door open. We then discovered that the Deck door latch did not fully engaged and did not hold the door closed. So each time we carefully latch door it holds for a minute but then drifts open. We called and alerted the Chase'N Rainbows staff of the problem but it was never corrected. This meant that we could not use the deck during the warm part of the day or evening because the door could not be securely closed to keep the A/C cool while we were on the Deck. While inside we were able to use a deadbolt to secure the door and keep the A/C on so we could sleep. We also had frustrating discussions with staff about the thermostat and how they couldn't change the settings and only the "owner" could do that. This was a ridiculous exercise in frustration during an expensive Thanksgiving vacation with family. Office staff was polite but uninformed. Maintenance staff left the impression that we were the problem. I would not rent from this property manager again.

On arrival at our room condo needed cleaning and attention. Biggest problem is that this unit does not subscribe to the beach towel program so you can not use the towel kiosks. Thats a bummer if you are trying to relax and get away from laundry chores. The Chase and Rainbow cleaning service did provide us with some beach towels, but again, one more laundry requirement on our vacation. The screen for the patio door was broken and unuseable, the shower water handle is completely worn out and would simply flop to the HOT side, burned out light bulbs, sheets put on the bed incorrectly(again, handled by Trinity Maid service promptly).One of the vanity sinks was plugged and would not drain properly.

My husband and I were so excited to be taking our honeymoon in Maui. After a long day of travel, we arrived to the property and were very happy with location and cleanliness of the unit - but the pros stopped there. After first use of the toilet, an incredibly loud screeching noise was coming from the pipes and would not stop. We had to turn the water off to the toilet. On top of that, the screen to the lanai was busted off the tracks, preventing us from opening up the doors to let the tropical air in. We immediately reached out to the property owners and left a message since it was after hours. We got nothing back from them the next morning, so we tried again. Nothing. I called, I texted the number they provided and I messaged them through the VRBO app. 48 hours later and STILL nothing. At this point, we were very upset. When I finally got through to someone, they sent out maintenance and were able to get the toilet fixed, but said they'd have to get someone else in to fix the screen. The next day, my husband and I were relaxing in between the beach and dinner and we get a quick knock on the door and then the door opens - the maintenance guy was back to remove the screen. We were not told he'd be coming by, and he was told we'd been moved to another unit, so he just came in. Completely unacceptable! We had no communication from the property owners about potentially being moved to another room. I was livid. At this point, it was our last night in Maui before we hopped over to the big island, so I left another message with them asking them to call me about a refund. three days later, the customer relations person gave me a call and acted like it was a huge deal to do any kind of compensation for all of the inconveniences we faced, stating "he really had to fight management on this" only to get us 15% of our total spent back (roughly $230). With how incredibly expensive it is to stay in Maui, I was unimpressed. That barely made a dent in our total costs for this unit, and the issues we faced were, in our opinion, so unacceptable. Long story short, I'd stay at this resort again. But I'd NEVER book through Chasin' Rainbows.

We stayed for a week at this studio unit description of property was spot on it was extremely clean and stock with most necessities. One thing which it lacked was beach chairs but that was an easy fix as we rented some Tommy Bahama chairs from a local place at a very low cost. The property at Honua Kai is beautiful and we were able to rent poolside cabanas which was a great addition to our stay. Location is central to all. I would definitely recommend this property.

My wife and I could not have been more pleased with our stay in unit 537 at the Honua Kai. We really enjoyed being minutes from Whalers Village, Lahaina and Kaanapali Beach as well as the incredible Napali Bay and Kapalua Coastal Trail. Having Dukes on-site is convenient and delicious! The unit was clean and the kitchen was well appointed. I also need to mention the top notch communication we received before and during our stay from Chase N Rainbows. Thank you so much for making our stay so memorable. We will definitely be back!
