My wife I stayed here for a week in February. Our hosts, Manfred and Elfie, were the best! They met us at the bungalow and made sure we were happy with our rental. They made us feel at home and gave us the benefit thier many years of experience living on the island. The bungalow was cozy and comfortable, located in a quiet neighborhood in Pahoa with a beautiful view of the ocean and a short stroll to ocean cliffs. This is the place to stay on the east side of the island if you want to experience lush rainforests, waterfalls, ocean cliffs and Vulcanos National Park. I highly recommend this place! island

We have family living just a couple blocks away so this is the perfect site for us. If you are going to be staying on the Hilo side for a few days and want to really get a feel for what it's like, give this spot a try. The botanic gardens, rainbow falls and the Sunday Pahoa farmers market are all 'must see' IMO.

We got upgraded to the suite upstairs because the bungalow was being renovated. Wow what a fantastic upgrade :) Elfie and Manfred were the perfect hosts and their place was absolutely gorgeous with great views, undisturbed tranquility and great access to both Hilo and the Volcanoes national park. Clean, bright and beautiful place to be away from everything and still not too far away.

The owners were amazing they came and checked on us daily offer to give us any information we may need about the area. Saw whale sitting on the deck. Brow was beautiful!! Great place to just relax and not have busy streets etc.

We were greeted as soon as we arrived which made for clear instructions and communication. There isn't AC, but every single window and door has screens in it, so there is a beautiful breeze flowing through the whole bungalow. You can see the ocean from pretty much every room. We did not have good cell phone service, but that added to the experience for me. ;) We enjoyed cooking and sitting on the patio the most. Pahoa is a gem of a town. I look forward to the next time we can stay.

The property is perfect for one or two people. I was able to visit Pahoa and grocery shop like one of the locals. I enjoyed the quiet neighborhood and was able to visit most of the East side of the Island, which included the volcanos. The owners were always available when I had questions but were obscure otherwise. A very pleasant experience.

The property is on the part of Hawai’i Island with the most vibrant natural attractions, such as Volcanoes National Park, and the rainforest areas.
The property is very close to the ocean, affording tranquil and beautiful views.
The hosts are both very nice, and provide privacy while also being nearby if a question arises.

My fiance and I enjoyed our stay in the bungalow. The beach was a short walk and the views of the sunrises from the lani was amazing . Elfie and Manfred were wonderful host and we would diffiinately stay here again.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 5 nights at the end of January. We loved it. It was quaint and quiet. It was a short walk to the ocean and stunning scenary.
Everything was as stated in the description. The owners live next door and are very sweet.

Manfred and Elfie were the best hosts, kind and considerate, nothing was too much trouble. After very long delays at Kona airport we arrived late and in the dark, Elfie was waiting outside the property with a flashlight to guide us in. On entering the property we found a bottle of wine and other goodies they had bought for a birthday present for my husband. What a wonderful thought. The property is a perfect size for two people, it's lovely and clean and equipped with everything you would need. It's a great p;ace to stay and if we ever make it back to Hawaii we will stay there again. Many thanks Elfie and Manfred, loved the funny stories.

My partner and I traveled from Philadelphia, PA to stay on the Big Island from January 3rd - 10th to produce a collaborative project (we are both artists.) Originally, I had booked with another rental to come to Hawai'i in June of 2016 but had an emergency health situation where I was unable to go days before. Those people did not refund me my scholarship money nor did they offer to rebook my time with them. They still offer a listing on HomeAway (and I would be happy to share that information with anyone wondering, as to prevent anyone else getting robbed.)
When looking to rebook, I discovered Elfie and Manfred's Bungalow in Hawaiian Beaches. Let me first say that these two people are responsive and inciteful. They answered my messages before my arrival to the island so that I could expect the price of food and know the best travel spots. My partner and I were unable to pick up the rental car the night we arrived at the airport, but Manfred and Elfie took it upon themselves to pick us up from the airport and then drive us to Alamo the next morning. Elfie greeted us with two beautiful leis and they shared information about the island the whole ride there. I was floored by their hospitality and knew immediately my partner and I made the right decision to book with them.
The bungalow is great. It is situated two blocks from the ocean. You can see the ocean from the bedroom window and hear the waves crashing at night. The yard is gorgeous and well-maintained. Laundry materials are available on site. We also had the opportunity to use boogie boards, beach mats, noodles, and scuba gear they also had available. The bungalow is comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen for all your needs. A large shower. Perhaps the only two downsides is that the wifi is very spotty and that the bed is springy and not the most comfortable. But all in all, a wonderful place to stay. The bungalow is near Pahoa, a small but bountiful in culture town 10 miles away. We enjoyed drinking Kava there.
This was our first trip to Hawai'i and we know we will be back. We would definitely book with them again. I would recommend this bungalow to anyone! Thanks again Elfie and Manfred.

This was easily our best rental during our stay on the big island. The bungalow has a perfect floorplan for 2 people, with separate, but still connected living room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The apartment is very well equipped. Everything is new, clean and in great condition. There was an issue with the washing machine when we arrived, and the owners were very quick to resolve it. Fantastic customer service, you really feel welcome here! Highly recommended.

We loved it! Our host was very helpful and generous. We were celebrating our 10 year anniversary and Elfie had a bottle of bubbly waiting for us along with some sweet treats. The location is quiet and tropical. The sounds of what a rain forest were present and soothing! This location was equipped with everything you may need including beach supplies. We would definitely stay here again if we make it back to The Big Island!

The owners, Elfie and Manfred, were really great. They were so helpful and accommodating. We loved them. And their place has nearly everything (from towels and linens to shampoo and body wash to pots and pans and cutlery to toaster and cooktop to decent size fridge to dishes and beach towels to a washer and dryer). They even provided us with welcoming macadamia treats, cookies, and a great umbrella. The only issues for us were phone reception and wi-fi reliability. I needed to drive at least 4miles towards Hilo to get my carrier (MetroPCS). Verizon or AT&T might do better. For the internet, they do have it, but some days you had to log in with their password multiple times in just a 30-minute period--can get a little annoying for someone who is used to great internet service. But you would be hard pressed to find nicer people than Manfred and Elfie, and you would be hard pressed to find a better value for lodging in Hawaii.

From the moment we arrived and found Elfie waiting outside with a flashlight, we knew that this place was an extraordinary find. Prior reviewers have mentioned all the unexpected amenities; for us, Elfie taking in our clothes when rain threatened was proof enough.
I said quiet, though the coquis chirping may bother some people. I found it soothing.

Perfect location from which to explore the Big Island. Close to volcanoes and hot pools. We loved relaxing on our private lanai after a day of sightseeing. Quiet location. We walked down to the beach every evening. Amenities were above average, hospitality outstanding.

We are so lucky we found this perfect Bungalow just days before we arrived on the Big Island for a spontaneous vacation. Our host Elfie was charming and attentive to our every need. The hosts live on the adjoining property but are available if you need anything at all. The place is perfect for 2 people, full kitchen is cozy but has everything you need. Modern and super clean. Comfy bed in the one bedroom, relaxing living space and a wonderful lanai with super comfortable outdoor chairs and table. Loved the large shower and all the amenities our generous hosts prodived. The extra effort put into details like an ice cooler we could take with us on our days adventures, with freezer bags all ready to go in the freezer, large soft beach towels. Elfie offered us use of boogie boards and snorkeling gear- which we happily enjoyed. Fans in the rooms kept us cool and we even had a peek of an ocean view while sitting each evening on our patio for happy hour. The neighborhood is quiet and very close to the coastal road we used each day to access our daily adventures. We came specifically to check the lava flow and this bungalow was the perfect spot for us. We highly recommend this vacation rental. Thank you so much!!
