The location was great for a visit to the National Park, and the lush surroundings were beautiful. We appreciated the pingpong table and hammock on the deck, the useable grill, and the puzzles and games. The house was clean and well appointed, but we felt that the amenities were a little skimpy. In particular, there was not much extra toilet paper or paper towel, and only a tiny bottle of dish soap. Also no extra bathtowels. The knives in the kitchen were so dull we could barely use them. The biggest drawback is that we were not allowed to use the washer/dryer, which would have been very helpful to a family with small children.

This house is beautiful and it’s in a lovely area. Lots of greenery (trees and shrubs) around and very private. Unfortunately we ran into a few problems. We tripped an electrical circuit which had the effect of shutting off the lamps in both bedrooms. We couldn’t find the electrical panel anywhere so we were left without lights on our last night. I suspect it's in the locked closet along with extra toilet paper that you might need and other essentials. The next morning (our last) the gas stove wasn't working (it seemed that the gas flow was inhibited) so we couldn’t cook anything that morning. We finally heard from the contact via the VRBO app after we’d left that we should have contacted the local person whose number had been provided in the welcome information and she would have been happy to help. There was no such contact information. It would have been helpful if there had been a book (or sheet) with details about the house and checking out, but no such luck. I wish I could say I would recommend this place, but I'm not sure I can.

This home is nestled into a rainforest jungle neighborhood. We were thrilled with the location, woke up to birds singing and leaves rustling. Loved the hammock and location to Volcanoes National Park.

A clean, well appointed home in a great location. This property is a destination in it's own right! The patio was great for taking in the beautiful mountain weather and pretty landscaping. The rooms were comfy and big. And the shared space was great for hanging out. Definitely recommend!

My list of complaints is pretty long - but it started at the gate. Evidentially it has to be closed at all times to keep the feral pigs and cows ( ? ) out but both sides of the gate are wide open. So why bother us about keeping the gate itself closed ???? It was a pain in the butt. Also, the fact that you had to reverse down the driveway then deal with the gate was stupid. They need to make it so you can turn around. The main thing is that every single rental I have stayed in at Volcano had a little book regarding what to do with the trash etc. This one just had random signs posted ( no smoking ) with no clear instructions on anything - especially the trash. The rental itself was okay - not great cause I felt like I was sleeping on someone elses dirty sheets ( Yuk ) I would not stay there again. The communication with the property management re: check in was literally non existent.

We loved this location, so near the national park as well as restaurants in Volcano. The atmosphere around the house was also amazing. So many plants that we never see on the mainland where we live. We did have one small problem which was attended to right away. I both recommend this and would come here again if I ever travel to Hawai'i again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The kids loved the ping pong table and playground. We loved how private it felt and the Christmas decorations were a wonderful touch. We had some trouble getting in touch with the property manager related to a tripped circuit in two of the bedrooms but it didn't hamper our stay.

My family really enjoyed the beautiful and quite surrounding. It was clean, comfortable and well stocked with household supplies. Spent a lot of time on the lanai. Only a short drive to Volcano House. Had a visitor from the mainland who was thrilled to see our spectacular sites. Thank you for making our visit to your home delightful!

Beautiful, comfortable house. This area is low key, quiet, a quick drive to Volcano National Park. Very comfortable for our family of 7. Not too far of a drive from Hilo either. We loved this house and would definitely recommend staying there and would stay again. Denison to owner’s reccs on weather. Rain can pop up quickly and can be a bit cool. But it is beautiful and one of our best memories from Hawaii.

Pros: Beautiful, bright property. Lovely home and front porch. Humid but dehumidifier is provided. Responsive host. Cons: Wood-burning stove is the only heat source. Inexplicably, wood is provided for only one night. The wood sold at the local store was too wet to burn. Plenty of dry, cut wood is on the property, but it's off-limits to guests.

A totally immersive rainforest/volcano experience for our family to use as a quiet and private home base to explore the national park and the "rainy" side of the island. We saw kalij pheasants, wild pigs, and even a chameleon - and that was without leaving the town of Volcano. Would I stay here again and recommend it to others? Absolutely. Stop searching VRBO and just book it already!! It's just a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy nature.

We loved staying in this beautiful home in the rainforest. It was clean and had everything we needed. The hot tub, ping pong table and hammock were so fun to have and utilize with our teenagers. After our days of exploring VNP, it was nice to come back to this quiet home.

My family and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at this beautiful property. The house and grounds were very well maintained and provided a wonderful oasis all our own! The proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was perfect and allowed us to come and go as we wanted since it was so close. Communication with the owners was exceptional and they were very accomodating when we had to change our dates. We loved the hammock and ping pong table. Those two things were enjoyed daily by the whole family. I would absolutely stay here again on my next trip!

This place was great. Nestled among ohi'a and ferns, creating a sense of complete privacy and intimacy with nature. Waking up to native birdsong every morning was amazing. The fireplace was cozy. Beds were nice and firm. The ping pong table, games, playground, and puzzles, were perfect for us. Waking distance to the Sunday farmer's market. Very close to the national park. We loved this spot and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

This beautiful home in the rainforest is lovingly decorated and cared for. We appreciated the artistic touches and had everything we needed for our family reunion and two birthday celebrations. The setting is lush, green and so nice and quiet. It's right near the national park and convenient to some good restaurants. We didn't want to leave this little corner of paradise! Mahalo for everything!

This adorable rainforest cottage was more than we could have hoped for! The beauty, peace and tranquility made it impossible not to relax and enjoy the wonder of the surroundings. It was so serene that I wanted to adjust our daily events so that we could spend more time here! We stayed in mid-September and opening the windows worked well to keep the house cool. Sleeping was very comfortable. Many guide books and local magazines were provided and helpful. The front porch hot tub was clean and very relaxing. Spa robes in the master closet were a very nice added touch. We didn't need all the bedrooms, but could easily see how this would be an ideal stay for a family, retreat or reunion. We highly recommend this property!

This property was amazing. Very spacious, clean and well maintined. It is a hidden gem that was cozy and secluded and we felt welcomed. There are three nice size bedrooms, 2 baths and lots of extra amenities, including a swing set - and I'm not afraid to say that even though we are in our 60's, we swang! The owner was great and he kept in constant contact with us as we weathered a tropical storm during our stay. I highly recommend this home especially if you are looking for peace and quiet.

Our family had a fantastic experience here - accommodations and amenities were accurately listed and pictured. We enjoyed the ping pong table, hammock, hot tub, and games. The property was lush, beautiful, and secluded. Check in/check out were easy and seamless. The property manager was great at communication and the owners were available and quick to answer all questions. The location was convenient to Hawaii Volcanos National Park, Hilo, and South Point. I would definitely recommend this property - exceptional!

Clean, secluded house that's well-set up for young families (gated porch, play structure, high chair, pack-n-play). Excellent communication with Paola prior to and during the stay, and of course minutes away from HVNP. Highly recommend!

Lovely stay in the rain forest! We enjoyed the hot tub, ping pong table and dvds. The property was clean and Paola was very accommodating when the propane ran low and the propane delivery was delayed. Thank you and we wish we had more than one night to enjoy your hospitality.

Highly recommend this home in the rainforest. The proximity to Volcanos National Park can’t be beat. Even if you’re not going to the national park this is a great home nestled in the rainforest with an abundance of space. The yard is our favorite.

Volcano House offers peace, solitude, and an abundance of Green surroundings! The sounds of birds and breezes were heavenly. The house is located 5 minutes from the Volcano Park entrance. The temperature does dip outside at night but we didn’t light the wood stove as we enjoyed a break from the heat. I would highly recommend staying here for families as there are many activities at the home to keep everyone happy!

We absolutely loved our stay in Volcano. The house and property were beautiful and well maintained. The landscaping in the yard is quite stunning. It is substantially cooler in Volcano than it is closer to the water, which was a lovely break. It was in the 50's at night and morning and high 60's low 70's during the day. The wood burning stove is incredible for the cool nights, and there's nothing like waking up feeling like you're in the middle of a jungle. It's very close to Volcano National Park and the black sand beaches. We had an amazing time here and will certainly be back. Mahalo

June 2022
We stayed here on the Volcano side of the island for the first 5 nights of our Hawaii vacation as a family. The house was perfect for our family of 5, and the setting so beautiful and surreal. Located just outside of Volcano National Park, 45 minutes from Hilo and within easy driving distance of many interesting sites. It does take about 2.5 hours from Kona airport to get here. Beautiful house and lovely location.

So many amazing things to say about this place. It was in a gorgeous location, and was very clean. The hosts make sure you have everything you need for a great stay. Plus, there is plenty of space to do yoga, have quiet time, or just spend time with friends. The hot tub is also a bonus. So relaxing!

A cozy cabin in the ferns! We loved the feel of this place. It reminded us of a summer cabin from our home in northern MN. Well stocked with dishes, towels, etc. Well organized. Very spacious. (We are a small family of 2 adults and an 11yo child - there is easily room for more in this house) Gardens, koi pond, play ground are great touches. We didn’t use the hot tub but it looked inviting! Ping pong table was used/loved by all. We knew when we booked that there were no laundry facilities, but having a washer and dryer available would make this place even better! Note: Volcano Village is at elevation in a TRUE rain forest. It’s always cool, rainy, and very damp. We so appreciated the dehumidifier and used it whenever we were “home.” It made a huge difference in removing the dampness, warming the house a bit, and allowing for things to dry out. It’s stored in the bedroom closet - I recommend using it if you stay here. One additional recommendation to the property owner: having some coat hooks or a coat tree would be a great addition for hanging up damp rain gear. Mahalo for sharing your beautiful getaway in the forest with us!!! We would love to visit again!!

This is the perfect home to stay close to volcano national park. It is very secluded, clean, and relaxing. We loved being so close to the park and the hot tub was wonderful on cold nights. Nights are cold and there is no heat except for wood burning stove. The other thing that was hard for a family with small children was no access to laundry facilities on the premise.

We absolutely loved this place!!! First off, we got lost so we called Pao, she was amazing with helping us find our way. She was so patient with us & went step by step to make sure we got there. Even followed up with us! Parking is right in front of the entrance with a lush manicured setting all around.. The place is equipped with all your needs, full kitchen in which we cooked all our meals. The scenery was breathtaking, it was quiet & away from neighbors we didn't hear a thing except nature around us & the little pond next to the dining area outside. It's about 5 mins away from the volcano which was great so we could watch the lava flow at night. There was nothing lacking in this little gem in the jungle!! They were so nice to have supplied coffee & other little add-ons which made our trip even better. The porch is the perfect place for yoga in the morning with a nice cup of coffee!! We are from Oahu so getting away from the city was what we were looking for & this tropical paradise did NOT disappoint! Pao even told us that we have a home in Volcano if we want to come back & we definetly will! If you're looking for a getaway to balance your soul & be one with nature- THIS IS IT!!! Thank you so much Pao & Mauricio for opening your ha'le to us we are so grateful!!!! And yes, we will be back!!!

We had such a wonderful stay and this incredible home. The owners love this house and it shows in all the comfortable touches. It sparkling clean, has plenty of amenities (the hot tub and hammock were our favorites) and it’s just minutes to Volcanoes NP. The sounds of the birds in the rainforest were so peaceful. You can see the rainforest out of the many huge windows which let in beautiful light. It’s spacious, and the wood burning stove made for cozy evenings. Stay here! It’s a dream!
