Lovely new 2 level island style home, beautifully furnished, built in the middle of the only native tropical rain forest in the country. Dr Stephen Tarek a recently retired Chiropractor lives quietly upstairs in a separate unit and is available for all immediate needs.
As all homes in the Volcano area are somewhat remote, this is also a good security measure. Ground level of home has 2 private bedrooms with new queen beds and luxurious duvet comforters and bedding. Living room has a very comfortable sofa bed full size. There is also an Aero full size bed with all bedding. I am adding an extra bathroom and bedroom off to a small area beyond the back of the home. There will never be work on this when guests are booked. Only between bookings.

One large bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and shower. All wood floors and ceiling fans with gas fireplace and beautiful full chefs kitchen with all new Samsung appliances and washer/dryer. Large lotus pond and 2 private covered patios (lanai) with seating. Long desk looking over pond to comfortably be on laptop. Closest home is 400 ft away through the forest, so no next door barking dogs or roosters. Extremely quiet and peaceful, unique and a fully Hawaiian experience. Perfect for those who want to explore and hike in an upper elevation tropical rain forest. Not really the place for loud late night drinking parties.
Children are welcome. But. Please note that there is a fish pond with no fence around it. The home is furnished more on the high end with real wood floors and all white duvet covers, linens and towels. Children and teen agers bring a wonderful energy to any home and so far have been great to have here. The home is not exactly "kid friendly" with antiques and artworks that can be pulled down if the child is over active. If this is the case there are many rentals that are in the area that would be a better fit for you if your children are super active.

"NOT TO MISS" Big Island Attractions: Volcano National Park hikes and Big Island hikes in general (host can suggest best as there are many); Boiling pots waterfalls; Akaka Falls; City of Refuge in Kona; Hilo town, Hilo Saturday open market, Liliokalani Japanese Gardens/Coconut Island; Volcano open Sunday market; Beautiful drive on highway 250 from Waimea to Hawi and then on to Pololu Valley (great view place and/or hike down to beach/valley) Beach may not be safe for swimming; Honokaa town and Waipio Valley. Beautiful drive from Pahoa to ocean in puna is approx. 2 miles out of Pahoa off highway 130 to 137 called Kama'ili rd. / Opihikau rd. (two names), when at ocean turn right to Kahena beach, most beautiful black sand beach on big island. Entire coast here is a magnificent drive and around 20 min from south to north end without stopping; Beautiful drive between Akaka Falls and Hilo has two names: Scenic Route and Old Mamalahoa hwy. The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is on this road and can be used to GPS the drive. There is a hiking trail next to the garden that goes to the ocean; Beautiful drive from Volcano to Kau desert trail. This trail is usually dry when it is raining in Volcano area. There are Hawaiian warrior footprints in the lava here; Kahena black sand beach (clothing optional and busy on Sundays when there may be 6 konga drums and dancing on beach); Two unique and beautiful swim areas near Hilo are Richardson's Ocean Park (small black sand beach here, be sure to walk past the lifeguard stand, and Carlsmiths beach park are two beautiful and unique swimming/snorkeling spots near Hilo with turtles: Hapuna Beach is a wonderful long white sand beach with crystal clear water and sometimes great bodysurfing. It is usually sunny and dry (best early or after 4pm and on weekdays for less people). The City of Refuge (Pu'uhonua O Honaunau) and Kelalakekua Bay are not to miss and are in the most beautiful area of Kona. So many guests plan with online information that is outdated or not accurate or maybe posted by another tourist who was only here for 2 days. This causes many to miss the best parts of the islands and/or waste their valuable time.

Please note that the upstairs of the home is a Private area. Also, the best hiking and walks are at the Volcano Park but some guests walk in the neighborhood. Please don't walk to the right beyond the home as it is a private road.

Owner is happy to give recent information on the Volcano National Park, hikes, waterfalls, stargazing, beaches, restaurants/shopping. Unless a short answer it is usually better to call owner ( Steve ) to discuss your plans. 8087213418 It is hard to make suggestions without asking questions of the guests itinerary and this could cause the owner to text and type books. Talking is much easier and faster. Registration Number: GE-115-571-7120-01, TA-115-571-7120-01

Steve is such an awesome host and gives incredible recommendations about things to do around the island. Volcanoes National Park entrance is really close by so we were able to go daily. The house was super comfortable and the kitchen (with gas cooktop) made it so easy to come home after hiking and sightseeing to cook a simple meal for dinner. Highly recommend this peaceful place. Thanks Steve!

Did you ever walk into a rental and know that you are a special guest and not just another renter? You will feel this away here. Every detail inside and out has been thought of and organized. The kitchen is ideal (plenty of items to get started, condiments and spices incl coffee), the bedding was heavenly and the outside areas so relaxing, every inch was squeaky clean too.Steve was beyond a five star host and was so helpful for off the path island info and volcano watching.tips.. We were lucky enough to be there for Kilauea’s episode 16 and drove to the park in 15 minutes to catch the eruption. So close here for easy access to what could be a once in a lifetime viewing event.. spectacular! This was an unforgettable stay here at Volcano Forest House next to Volcanoes National Park. We are still in awe!

This unit was probably the nicest rental I have ever stayed at . The property has a peaceful, zen atmosphere. The unit was immaculate, and was thoughtfully designed and appointed. The location , just 10 minutes from the national park, was very convenient. I hope to visit again soon.

Our stay at the Volcano Forest House was simply the best! The host did a fantastic job at communicating how to get there and what to expect. The space was clean, inviting and exactly what we were hoping for. Walking out in the mornings to sit and listen to the birds with my morning coffee was divine. The property is gorgeous and if you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the frogs like we did! Definitely plan to return if I am in Volcano again. Thank you Steve!

Steve's home was very peaceful and a great base for exploring volcanoes national park (less than a 10 min drive away; you need a car to explore the area just fyi). House fully stocked and tastefully decorated. Limited dining and grocery shopping nearby though so just plan ahead if staying longer than a night or two. Very safe and secure!

We had an amazing stay in the rainforest. The rental itself is extremely clean and well furnished. We were also greeted with many fresh flower arrangements and fresh local fruits, which was a very nice touch. The bedrooms and living space are very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. The grounds of the property are stunning. Many interesting bird sounds to enjoy and at night the sounds of the coqui frogs abound. We chose this rental because of the convenience to the national park. It is less than a 10 min drive from the entrance, which made it very easy to fully explore the park. Steve is a very welcoming host, with many excellent recommendations for daily activities.

This property is amazing, located right outside Volcano NP. IT was very well represented on VRBO by the owner and clean. We enjoyed that it was outside of Hilo but not too far away. This made for very peaceful evenings that were full of stars. The owner, Stephen, was extremely friendly, helpful and full of ideas on local spots. His rental was clean and nicely appointed. You can fully cook meals here if you like. Would most definitely stay again and also not hesitate to suggest to friends and family. 5 Stars.

The home is ideal in terms of location. Super easy to get to and the perfect distance to and from the park. The home is really exceptional in that it is beautiful AND beautifully appointed. Gorgeous decor and a chef’s kitchen with everything you need to whip up a gourmet meal. Stephen is a gracious host and was very helpful and accommodating at every turn. We’ll be back!

This is the nicest rental property we have ever stayed in. The house and outside patio areas (complete with a koi pond) are gorgeous, and we enjoyed hotel-quality amenities during our stay (including high thread-count sheets, fluffy towels, slippers and bathrobes, along with various beach related items. Things in the house that might require explanation had little signs / labels (e.g., how to get on to WiFi), and in general the whole set-up was very thoughtful. There was even a dehumidifier to keep the house dry and toasty. Some of our other family members stayed at another nearby rental and complained of it being too cold and damp - we had no issue with this at this house. Our host Steve was extremely welcoming and understanding about our late arrival due to a cascade of flight delays, and he came down to greet us when we arrived with lots of helpful suggestions and inside knowledge of things to do on the island and how best to do them. He also took the time to show us how to operate appliances in the house etc. He was very patient in answering our many follow-up questions as well. We were very sorry to leave.

If you are looking for complete quiet in lush surrounding in a beautiful home- this is for you Home is in the area of VNP- two separate outdoor seating areas to enjoy this serenity Pond Home inside fairly small extremely well equipped with literally everything you could need- even bandages and cotton balls lol Strong wi fi- for work or streaming Phone not great Work area in addition to two bedrooms, one bathroom, living and dining area, one large tv in living room, and big kitchen Place is actually even better in person than photos Steve is a great host- available if needed - otherwise unseen Very very quiet- even the wildlife is quiet lol Home is very very well insulated/built- when doors are shut you hear virtually nothing Kitchen is best equipped and supplied if any Vrbo I have stayed in- Eg two kinds of syrup/ two kinds of soya sauce- low salt and reg Many spices/ condiments/ dry cereal/dry pasta/oats etc etc and even coffee!! The only real downside is that Steve and this lovely home will make you want to move to this area of Hawaii

This beautiful home is tastefully appointed, with close attention paid to function as well as form. The comfort of the guest(s) and facilitating a positive visitor experience is clearly a top priority for the host. If you seek local-style insider info to guide your explorations, the host is happy to offer it. We used this elegant accommodation as a base for visiting the national park, and only regretted we could not stay longer as there are so many fine options to explore nearby. The host was most engaging on the two occasions we really interacted: he welcomed us and bid us farewell, and we enjoyed conversing. If you just want to message regarding logistics on VRBO, that’s fine, too. Looking forward to our next visit at this spot, remembering sitting on one of the two lanais, listening to birds, sipping a morning or evening beverage. At night we could see the Milky Way with naked eyes! Oh, those were such good papayas and local bananas, too!

Thank you Stephen for all the amazing tips. We stayed for 2 nights to see the active volcano, and decided to pick a location closer to the park. It is about 10 mins drive from this house to the park. The host lives upstairs on the 2nd floor and he was absolutely amazing! He offered tips and recommendation for us within the community, and guided our ways to the park. We were out at 10 pm on our nights for the glow and returned couple of hours later, hopefully that didn't cause any problem to the host! The house itself is newly renovated with everything equipped. New bathroom, showers, along with new appliances in the kitchen! Mattress and pillows were firm, and the towels and bedsheets are all extremely clean! Will definitely return!

This is one of the best rentals we have ever stayed in. The place is gorgeous and the grounds are amazing as well. Everything was very clean and stocked with anything you might need. Very close to the Volcanoes National Park which is convenient if you want to just run over quick at night to see the lava. The host was there to greet us when when we arrived and showed us around. He even took us up to his lookout to show us the view. He is very informative about the island and gave us many great suggestions on what to do. We enjoyed talking to him about all his travels. He even lent us coats and rain jackets so we wouldn’t be cold and wet when we went to the park at night. Would love to stay here again.

Beautiful, clean, well-equipped home is well-situated as a base for exploring volcanoes and other parts of the island. The owner Steve, and Pono who was managing in Steve's absence, were extremely helpful and friendly with great communication.

We stayed here with our two school-aged boys for two nights as a base for exploring the national park. The house is beautiful - clean, modern, and well-appointed. Our boys loved trying to spot fish and frogs in the pond. The house is in the middle of the forest, which includes many forest sounds at night. We found this delightful, but if you are sensitive, you may want to bring ear plugs, especially if you like to sleep with the windows open. The house has equipment for all your adventures, including flash lights and high powered binoculars for viewing the eruption at night. If we find ourselves in Volcano again, we will definitely stay here.

Very glad I found this place. It’s the neatest, cleanest vacation home I’ve been to. The house is beautifully decorated, we didn’t want to leave. Thank you Steve, Pono, and Savero for hosting!

This house is close to perfection (close - because of little weird electrical system which makes switching on/off all lamps somehow challenging. But is can be fun too). Otherwise this place is beyond expectations: the location, the garden, the house, all furnitures and equipment. We would like so much to stay there longer. Thank you Stephen Andrzej & Magda

May 2022
The house was beautiful and clean. However, it is NOT a 2 bathroom home. There is only 1 bathroom, so the listing is deceptive. The host was overly involved in our stay. I'm sure he was just trying to be helpful, but even before we arrived he was suggesting what we should do and how we should do it. Even going as far as to suggest we change our flights to a different ariport and where we should stop to go to the bathroom on the way in. The host lived on the property and met us to give us the keys, making our late arrival feel like an imposition. He wanted to show us "special features" of the house, but there is nothing complicated or unique that could not have been addressed in an email or text. We only stayed 2 nights and when we arrived, we were informed contractors would be at the house the next day. We did not know that before we arrived. The contractors were there for many hours. Most of which we were gone, leaving strangers coming in & out of the house with our belongings unsecured and they turned off the power twice to complete their work. I feel we should have been told of this before we arrived so we could make a different choice if we wanted to. The house was beautiful and other than the lack of the advertised bathroom was perfect for us, however I would not stay at this property again.

March 2022
We totally enjoyed our stay at Forest House. Not only was the property beautiful and very peaceful, but our host and owner was fantastic in welcoming us and providing many helpful hints on what to see and do but always checking to see if we were comfortable and happy. We had great conversations and sharing of stories which added to the pleasant experience of sharing his home. Our home away from home was well designed, had all the creature comforts we could want, beautifully furnished, WiFi, Netflix, washer and dryer, full kitchen, a beautiful patio to relax in and a fish pond to enjoy. Covered parking and very close to volcano National Park. A grocery store, fast food, a full pharmacy and Urgent Care are only a few minutes away. Steve allowed us to climb his tower to star gaze or watch a beautiful sunset. We already miss it. This is definitely a place we hope to return to again. Thanks Steve for allowing us to share your piece of Heaven.

We are so glad we rented from Steve!! Not only was his property perfect for our stay, but Steve himself gave us loads of great advice which we utilized to make our trip to Hawai'i even better. It felt like we were staying not just with a host, but with a friend as well. Thank you Steve!!

Beautiful location, quiet, immaculate. We stayed for 3 weeks and realized that the owner was unaccustomed to long stays. So I would encourage other long stayers to check out expectations on your part and owners part (eg who takes trash to dump?)

My husband and I recently went on our honeymoon to Hawaii. We stayed at Eric’s place for a few days during that time. The check in process was very easy, as we were in communication with one of the cleaners, who showed us around the property, and give us information about local hikes and destinations. Our host Eric was also really helpful in coming up with fun ideas for us to spend our time, we ended up having one of my favorite days of the trip listening to his advice. The house itself is gorgeous and spacious with a cozy fireplace as well. It feels like a peaceful retreat in the forest with close access to Volcano Nat’l Park (highly recommend!). The kitchen has all the amenities for cooking, as I’d highly recommend getting groceries when you fly in from the airport, as restaurants aren’t extremely convenient to the area unless you drive.

November 2021
The apartment was easy to find and exactly as pictured. We needed a few things from Pono over the course of our stay, and he always responded very quickly. My one complaint is that the kitchen was light on tools (mixing/prep bowls, baking pans, good knives, etc.) necessary for doing more complicated cooking. This seems like a relatively new listing, so hopefully those things will be added in time.

What a wonderful place to stay; a hidden gem in the lush, tropical trees and foliage. Top list of cleanest places I have stayed. Convenient to everything in Volcano area. Immaculately decorated new construction. We wish we could have stayed longer. It’s ideally located to visit attractions across the Big Island. - Comfy beds with clean, white, soft linens - Lots of windows and doors to open for fresh air - Kitchen has everything you could possibly need - Closets are stocked with extra gear, even parkas! - The rooftop has amazing views of the stars - Every detail has been thought of — like hotel slippers to wear! - Steve immediately made us feel welcomed, and was always available to answer questions and offer local tips

The home was absolutely beautiful. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well-appointed, there were lots of thoughtful touches (like face wipes and sunscreen provided), and overall a beautiful property. Stephen was a great host who lives right upstairs. He let the kids feed the koi each afternoon and was the most “hands-on” host we’ve had. The house was minutes from the park which made it easy to explore at any hour.

Lush grounds, an informative and exceptionally helpful host, and well-appointed interior. What's not to love? This property had all the little touches that make a difference in your stay-- fresh fruit at check-in, all the necessities in the bathroom and kitchen, and fun extras (for example, rain gear for the daily showers). Our family had a wonderful stay and would return again in a heartbeat.

Beautiful property and home in a quiet location. Proximity to national park and high peaks is excellent. Couldn’t be better.
