We had a great 3 day stay in Volcano. The house was very large, clean and comfortable for the five of us - we didn't use the guest cottage. There were plenty of towels, blankets and kitchen items. The washer and dryer and bathrooms all worked great. The proximity to the Volcanoes National Park was very convenient. One of us thought there was a musty smell but we opened the windows during the day/evening and there were air purifiers in each bedroom, which were great white noise for sleeping. Stayed in June but no need for a/c as cool as the nights get. The last part of the road to the house is rocky but fine.

This is a beautiful three bedroom home in a quiet location outside the town of Volcano. My family loved our stay here - the outside porch was great for eating dinners at and just gazing into the rainforest. The bedrooms and bed setup (two twins in one room and a double in the other) worked well for our three children. We appreciated being close to Volcanoes National Park.

The house was very clean and beautiful! We loved having the full kitchen and multiple bedrooms. We appreciated that there were some food staples available for our use, like spices and foil. The property was beautiful, we saw frogs and bores (from a safe distance). There was only one TV in the living room, and it would have been nice to have one in the bedrooms as well. Host was also not very responsive, and we never heard back on our questions.

We came to Volcano to hopefully see Kilauea erupt. This house was in a good spot to get to the park easily. You do have to drive down a pretty rough road to get to it, but just go slow and it’s fine. The house is very nicely decorated and we didn’t notice any musty odor (as some in Volcano do) from the rainforest location. It was very clean. The beds are comfortable. The kitchen is pretty well-equipped, and we used it for making breakfast quite often. We did try to grill fish, but there was no pan for grilling it, so we opted for the grill on the stovetop, which worked well. The chorus of rainforest frogs and birds was amazing!

House location was excellent for exploring Volcano National Park. Very clean and plenty of room for 5 of us. great to have laundry as well. We did not have any cell service at the house but the wifi was good. It was rainy and chilly most of the time we were there, and the heaters are space heaters so just make sure you have one for each bedroom when you arrive. We were missing one but we contacted the company and they let us go to the adjoining property (which was not occupied) to get one that had ended up there.

The house is very nice, comfortable, quiet and very convenient to the National Park that we were there to visit . There were a few maintenance issues, but the property management was quick to respond and always reachable. The need for a little attention was the only reason we gave the property a 4 and I am sure they will address those items for the future. We cooked on the grill every night which is nice because there really aren't dining options in Volcano. There are a couple restaurants in the National Park itself. The patio is very nice for dining if the weather is pleasant. It is quite secluded so if that is what you are looking for then you should love it. Be aware that at the last turn you will be on a dirt road, but you don't have to drive far on it. We listened to their advice to grocery shop in Hilo before we arrived at the property. It was very good advice.

Property was perfect for our adult family of 5. We were able to make day trips to the National Park, and other national monument sites (drove the whole island) skirting the rain best we could. Property was gorgeous, comfortable, and spacious. Loved the ammenities and the views.

The house has a ton of space compared to other options and was quite private (the Dancing Bamboo Cottage was not occupied during our stay). We appreciated the well-stocked kitchen! The property description is spot on regarding grocery options—be sure to stock up in Hilo or Kona if you want to cook meals since the two stores in Volcano only have the very basics and prices are much higher than in town.

Beautiful cottage in the rainforest near HVNP. As advertised. Very responsive contact person. This is a unique setting, and beautifully decorated. Great location for visiting the volcanoes park. Comfy beds. Space heaters and blankets appreciated. They do only provide a couple detergent pods for dishwasher and laundry. Stock up on groceries in Hilo first. We enjoyed seeing wild pigs and birds out back.

Our annual girls vacation retreat landed us somewhere out of the ordinary, and it was exactly what we needed! Dancing Fern was immaculately clean and well-stocked. The electric fireplace and the towel warmer was a bonus as it was a bit chilly, as well as the fresh lemons and sweet gardenias in the backyard! Simple pleasures! Only downside was the spotty Wi-Fi, which is understandable being that the house is situated in a fern forest. Great way to unplug from the daily grind. The large dining room table was the center of our weekend where we enjoyed our brunches, charcuterie, and hours of catching up. Thank you so much for the wonderful accommodations!

This house may not be what people think of for a Hawaiian vacation but for 4 travelers from Phoenix, AZ the cool mountain air was a delight. The remote location was such a contrast to the intense noise of Honolulu we felt we had found our own little corner of Paradise.The house is simply stunning. The furnishings were of excellent quality & comfortable. There was lots of room to spread out & find your own quiet space. The patio was my personal favorite. I looked forward to our daily visits from the pheasant couple. Now if we only figure out how to keep that darn rooster from crowing all day long!The kitchen was probably the best equipped I have ever encountered. We found everything we needed to cook breakfast & dinner daily. The knives were even sharp & the cookware unstick!During our stay we needed a few maintenance issues dealt with but everything was promptly addressed by the rental team. (Excellent communication, by the way!)Know if you stay here you'll do a lot of driving. We knew that going in & we enjoyed our drives. There's lots of beautiful & interesting scenery on the Big Island & we did our best to see it all.I highly recommend The Dancing Ferns to anyone who craves a little corner of Paradise! You won't regret it.

Relaxing stay in a superbly maintained custom home, surrounded by the rain forest and within a few miles of the National Park. Hilo is only 30 minutes away and is also a historic and beautiful place to visit.Restaurants close by in the town of Volcano, home to many excellent artist studios or home cook in fully equipped kitchen in high ceiling great room with views all around. Home shows as basically brand new with near-luxury appointments, copious art and an incredible jungle setting visible from every window.New comfortable beds in a super quiet setting that almost ensures a good nights sleep. It was a great way to start our visit to Hawaii!

This house was perfect for our family! It was super close to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, and had all the amenities our family needed (washer/dryer, dishwasher, cooking needs). My husband enjoyed coffee walks, all three of my teens had a bed, we had a family movie night with The Princess Bride, and it was a joy to eat on the lanai. The house is very spacious and we had no trouble with a party of six. It is minutes from the national park and tucked away in a quiet part of the island. We loved hearing the gecko choir at night! My kids also appreciated the provided board games.
There are a few things that could be fixed to make it a 5-star experience. First and most importantly, there is a door in the master bedroom that has a full length window on it. There is no curtain at all. (There is one pictured on the listing but none when we were in person). There is a second cottage on the property and they could look directly into your bed if they wanted. Actually, there were not many curtains/blinds at all and because of how dark it is at night in this location we felt like we were basically in a fish bowl.
The lanai isn’t as welcoming as it looks in the photos. The furniture is worn and could use a good wash. The pictured curtains are ripped and paint stained. While the walkways and driveway are beautifully landscaped, the backyard is completely overgrown and unusable. (The long grass may be for eco reasons - it would have been nice to have a heads up)
We were happy to have wifi, full kitchen and laundry in the house.

The place was really nice, and spacious as shown in the photos.
There were a couple issues though which didn't get resolved even after multiple discussions with the property manager including the front door lock not working, back door lock being stuck and wifi not working.
The property manager tried to work around the issue but communication on how that happened could have made the stay better.
Overall property is great if you don't run into these issues.

Dancing Ferns was the perfect rainforest retreat for our trip to Volcano. It was very comfortable for our group of 6. The house is only 10-15 mins from Volcano National Park and close to Volcano village but is quiet and secluded. We look forward to booking this house again in the future.

Dancing Ferns was a great place to stay if you want a quiet place to recharge with your family that is minutes from Volcanoes National Park and an easy drive to Hilo or Maunakea Visitor Station. We were greeted by some nice wild pigs when we arrived and heard the rainforest frogs at night and roosters in the distance during the day. No tourists or traffic to worry about. The town of Volcano is a 5 minute drive for supplies if needed. Was great to be so close to the park for two days of hiking. Easy flying in and out of Hilo too.

What a beautiful home! Came down from Kona to spend a couple of nights with 80 year old grandpa, teen kids and mom and dad. Perfect accommodations for everyone. Close to Volcanoes NP for day and night trips to the park. The house has a beautiful setting and interior. Nice big table for games and dining. My husband and I had a lovely visit to Dancing Ferns Estate! We would highly recommend this beautiful home to travelers to the volcano. Home was well equipped and it had a large outdoor lanai where we could enjoy a morning cup of coffee. Wild pigs had torn up the front yard, but the back yard was fenced and nicely kept. I would plan on arriving during daylight hours since the directions were a bit confusing. The home is on an extension of Lehuapele and their is a road sign at the end of the paved single lane road. (Directions indicated Kaleponi Drive but there is no sign to indicate this). Take a left when you come to the intersection of Ali'i Kane and Lehuapele and proceed about 1/4 mile to the gate. There is no light, so it would be difficult to open the date if you come after sunset. We enjoyed the Volcano Village- our lunch at Ohelo Cafe was great! We enjoyed the cool weather and rain...very refreshing from our home in Kona. Overall great experience.

We got to explore more of the National Park because we were just minutes away. The open floor plan worked great for our visit, four adults. There are bedrooms/bathroom combos on different sides of the house, providing personal space for each couple. The main areas are comfortable, nicely decorated, and everything is well explained in the on-site book. The house is located next to the rain forest and the plants are amazing.
Contact to the property managers through email and text were prompt and informative. Wifi worked great. Plenty of space in the parking area.
Everything was just as advertised and Dancing Ferns was just what we needed to enjoy our holiday in Hawaii.

We enjoyed our stay. First time staying in a rainfall area. The house was really nice and very well decorated. Very quiet, flowers were beautiful, and the area was close to some of the sites we wanted to see. However, the local roads were terrible.

Great house, and wonderfully equipped! The huge covered porch was the focal point (other than the kitchen). Every time my foody friend looked for a cooking utensil, there it was!
My friend's wife appreciated the portable heaters, and the towel warmer! The rest of us New Englanders thought the weather was perfect.
This makes for a great place for a group to base their visit to Volcanos National Park.

This house is lovely and beautifully decorated. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is for cleanliness. In the room with the twin beds, there was a LOT of dust, which affected my son's allergies. Also, the filters in the air purifiers were dirty and needed to be replaced.

We didn't spend much time in the rental as we were outdoors visiting Volcano NP. It rained the entire time were at the rental. The rain stopped before we got to the nearby NP so we did not enjoy the outside property. It is conveniently located close to the NP. The rental was perfect for our family of 4. I will caution that there is no heating and the house was chilly while we were there. We still enjoyed out stay. Very clean, manicured property, very nice rental.

It's a beautiful place to stay. We at dinner on the lanai, and enjoyed our breakfasts inside during the cooler mornings. We didn't have far to drive to get to Volcano National Park to see the lava flow and listen to the crackling at 4:00a.m. The house was spacious and wonderfully decorated. We really enjoyed our stay there. We cook our meals and dine in, and found the kitchen to be well supplied, except for coffee cups or mugs. There were four. We are a party of five, and the house was advertised as spacious enough for even more. I hope they supply more for the next renters. We were thrilled to see the lemons growing, the variety of birds, and as we were driving home one evening, we even got to see one of the wild pigs they had mentioned.

The stay was great. We had come to see our son who lived less than a mile away from where we stayed. So, to find this secluded home, quiet and off into the hidden Fern Forest was exactly what we we're looking for. If there was anything that we found that was uncomfortable was in the evening when it would get a bit chilly. But they did furnish small electric heaters for each room, and we did use them to warm up our bedroom before bedtime. The rest of the house was cool until morning time and would warm back up quickly. But other than that, we loved this place and would definitely stay here again when we come to visit our son in the near future. Stayed here with my family as we wanted to be close enough to the National Park to visit a few times and see the lava flows on multiple nights. The house was lovely and beds were comfortable. It can be a little chilly in the mornings as there's no heat, but the space heaters and plush blankets do the trick. The kitchen is well-equipped but there are no essentials like cooking oils, salt, pepper, etc., though there are a couple of convenient grocery stores nearby.
I would definitely recommend staying here to others and would do so again.

Location was perfect for visiting VNP. Large and spacious with an awesome covered lanai. Couldn’t get hot water in the second bathroom shower, but the main one was fine.

Our family really enjoyed our stay in Dancing Ferns. The home was spotless, very comfortable and peaceful. The location was convenient to what we’d planned on that part of the island. Communications were easy as were all the provided instructions. We definitely recommend this property to others.

We traveled down from Waimea as we are residents on island to see the evening glow from the active lava flow. The property management team did a great job making us aware of the check in process and following up to make sure we arrived safely. The house is beautiful and very elegantly furnished. We really had a nice time lounging in the evenings watching movies and eating breakfast around the outdoor farmhouse table in the morning. Definitely will return to this wonderful house!

This house is big and open with lots of space. The beds are comfy and everything was clean, up-to-date and well-maintained. The property is secluded and private, feels like there is no one else around you. It is a short drive to get to the restaurants and farmers market in Volcano Village, and to the national park to see the volcano.
