Beautifully appointed and spacious condo. I had planned this stay for my elder sister and myself but when we arrived my sister couldn’t manage the stairs so she found alternative accommodations. The condo is beautiful and great for young and athletic folks but not recommended for senior citizens to climb the stairs cases with luggage and groceries.

Enjoyable stay. Problems at arrival included half roll of toilet paper and no spares, no paper towels and no garbage bags. Trip to store to purchase. Hard to find small pack of toilet paper. Big TV's in living room and bedroom. However, bedroom TV had no cable and showed that the cable box needed to be activated. Called Kona Vacation Rentals and was told someone would contact me. Was contacted and asked to send photo of screen message. Sent photo but never heard back. Called again and new person said she would get the message to the right person and call back. Never heard back. Didn't need TV, but it was very poor customer service. Several other items, but after poor TV response, never called about them. They were icemaker broken but worked partially and some ice could be scooped out; coffee pot worked, but took 25 minutes to brew a pot; clothes washer works but was full of dried sheets and towels - from previous cleaning not completed. Other minor items were dirty windows, dirty carpets, roaches dead and alive on floor, and window blinds were missing slats and had broken mechanisms. Thankfully, lots to do away from the condo.

As soon as we walked in after putting the air conditioning on the entire place smelled like raw sewage. I turned off two units and only used the bedroom AC because it was very warm and it’s summer. I notified the property management and they said they’d get it taken care of. Later that day I was notified that it would be the next day now before they could send someone. The following morning I woke up with a headache and cough, etc. After a full day exploring the island we returned to the same sewage smell (horrible). We couldn’t use the AC at all and it was a sleepless night. I called again to ask if the AC people came like they said they would and was told yes and that the units would eventually need cleaning?! I said they didn’t clean them??? Even without the air on & windows open the smell was bad & now I ended up at urgent care and my wife started with a headache. The doctor said 100% it was allergens from that unit, now in my chest. I was given two prescriptions and needed a 2nd antibiotic. we’ve been home two weeks and i’m still not right. my wife was sick for over a week. The day we left the I called our contact person who was very nice and apologized again. He was going to try to get us a refund and felt bad, we never heard from anyone. After getting home I reached out again and never got a response. Thankfully Kona was our last island and we weren’t sick for our entire vacation. Also the master bedroom TV never worked or was fixed, dryer too.

This pictures drew us in and we were not disappointed. It is a spacious and well kept condo. The deck is lovely, it is close to snorkeling beaches, market, artisan market, and Kona-Kailua. We had a peaceful and fun stay. FYI, as it says in the listing, toiletries are not extensive and seem to be available based on whether or not previous guests left items or finished items. But there is a market just up the hill. Guest services was prompt and helpful! The overall condo area is very fun, there are games, pools, and family friendly fun! We definitely hope to return someday!

The unit is spacious and right on the golf course. The AC is wonderful and quiet. The circuit for the wall oven was off and could not be turned on without a short warning alarm coming from the oven. The oven took three days to be fixed. At the same time I mentioned that the water/ice for the refrigerator was not working. This item was never fixed. A large wall clock was off and sitting on an end table when I arrived and when I left. A number of vertical blinds had fallen out of the blinds and were stacked on the side of the dining room when I arrived and when I left. And finally, a number of tiles from the kitchen counter are missing or badly damaged.

Condos were well equipped. Enjoyed the “Quiet Pool”. Only complaint was no direct access to the shoreline from this property.

Everything was as expected or better. It was a relaxing, quiet condo that my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed. Morning coffee on the lanai listening to the birds was great. We were in bed early nightly and never had any issues with noise. The bed was extremely comfortable. Communication with the property managers was phenomenal. There was a small earthquake on the island (not unusual for them) when we were there and the property managers reached out right away to answer any questions and ensure we were okay. We would definitely stay there again!!

Beware!! The online photos of the condo at Kona Coast Resort were spectacular! We looked forward to 11 days in paradise! As soon as we walked in with our luggage, we knew those photos were not recent; in fact, probably 10 to 15 years old! Either that or the photographer should be given a 5 star rating for making a 2-star unit look like a 5-star condo! Without going into every ridiculous detail, suffice it to say the unit was in need of major attention and maintenance / repair. We immediately contacted our unit’s property manager and sent a list (and photos) of what the unit looked like now; not ten years ago. He was in full agreement and tried to work with us to make our stay more comfortable. Had we known the current state of this unit we wouldn’t have selected it; it’s plain and simply a case of misrepresentation of the condition of the condo via the VRBO website listing. The property management company representative admitted that the condo is in such a sad state of repair that it is scheduled for a complete restoration sometime after September of this year. Upon our arrival home and yet more phone calls to the management team, we were offered a partial refund which is appreciated (although does not come close to making it 11 days in paradise). Because of their willingness to work with us, we have given them a 3-star rating rather than the 2-star the unit deserves.

Mostly good. Does need some TLC, i.e, new shower head, kitchen faucet, sink stopper in bathroom, and window shades are missing slats with pieces found in closets.

The unit itself was average. However, there was a really strong musty smell upon entry, which never went away during our 5 night stay. Instead of fixing the actual problem, we were offered an air freshener instead. We declined. The instructions for the entry lock box were also incorrect and confusing. Many of the online amenity listings are not accurate. There were many items that were missing, broken or damaged including kitchen counter tiles, vertical blinds, ceiling fan was not operational, broken light switch cover plates, moldy shower floor, broken lamp shades, holes in drywall, etc. The mini-split A/C units worked well in the living room, but the bedroom unit struggled to keep the room cool at night. The resort itself seems nice enough and has many things to do. However, once the sun goes down, the parties begin in surrounding units. Each of our 5 nights in the unit were disturbed by nearby parties, even though there are signs everywhere on the property saying that quiet hours start at 10pm and that they are strictly enforced. We reported extremely loud partying next door our first night there , which security simply blew off. Every night after that, there was similar levels of noise nearby, keeping us and our 2 little girls awake until as late as 2am. We reported again, this time to management, but nothing was done about it. Given the price for this unit ($300+ per night including taxes and fees), we were expecting a better experience. If a party atmosphere and below average unit condition are what you are looking for, this might be the right place for you. If you are looking for peace and quiet and a unit where things are fully operational and in good condition, this is not the right place. We would not stay here again, most likely.

The check in process was terrific, I did not get to extend my checkout as I never received a reply but we were able to find things to do for the day anyway so that was ok. The unit was just ok, it is very dated and could use a really good cleaning but reflective of the nightly price and I'm guessing a lack of help, as we heard most places are struggling since Covid to get workers. I dripped water on the kitchen floor on the first day, and we are shoes off in the house people, and it became black and muddy even though my feet were totally clean. I used what was available to clean up the general area and the rags became black with dirt and grime just from in front of the sink and stove. The shower also didn't get cleaned from the previous visitors (gross) and I did report this, which management did offer to clean for me, but I just did it myself as I wanted to bathe after our long trip. I had management come investigate some rotten "dead animal" like smell which they found was the case and figured it was the AC unit filters. They gave us a wall plug-in until they could get the needed parts, we didn't hear from them again so just turned off the ACs and opened the doors. This seemed to help. The bed is comfortable, and sheets nice but could use a new comforter as the one present was stained and very dated but did the job. I removed the sheets on our last day to find the mattress pad and pillows had not been washed for quite some time, as they were soiled heavily from previous visitors. I had time, so I did wash the linens and pad for them and it came clean nicely, so they might need to work on cleaning processes here a bit and I'm going to be more careful to review linens at other VRBO places I stay. The first night we visited the resort bar and a fight broke out between a vacationer and a local just there to have dinner. The local mom with her 6 year old takes on a vacationer in the middle of her meal as her husband spectated with the rest of us, it ended quickly due to the lady security guard breaking it up but prevented us from visiting there again during our stay. Mostly because we were not wanting that kind of vibe during our stay and plenty of other places to go hang out for cocktails. If you are looking for the upscale resort feeling and security of Waikoloa this might not be your location. All in all we found it served our purpose as we don't stay indoors much in Hawaii anyway and were ok with feeling like a local for a few weeks. :) Mahalo
