Please read this before you book. The following is in reference to the Lahaina fires.
To my guests staying with me in 2023:
Due to the Lahaina Fires you can cancel for a full refund (see below) anytime prior to arrival. For 2024 guests the standard policy applies.
The Governor of Hawaii announced last week that West Maui will open to visitors on October 8, 2023. Some will say that’s too soon and some will say that’s too late. I don’t know but I know that businesses have opened and continue to open. Most are owned by locals and/or they employ locals. I know they cannot survive if visitors do not come and then Maui will have a second catastrophe, an economic one.
Please understand that if you come and stay with me that you will not be taking a room from a displaced family or that you will be taking resources from victims of the fire. Right after the fire, me and the owners I represent placed victims of the fire in our units free of charge. No questions. It gave them a safe place to think and they knew they would need to find a longer term solution. Most have done that. A couple still need some more time and they will have that. I will not kick them out for a paying guest, so if the unit shows available then it’s available because the family in it found a longer term solution.
A few weeks ago Rhonda and I went to Leilani's to support the cause and it was full, so we went to the Westin in Kaanapali. That was pretty full as well. As we were leaving I ran into "Fred" who lost his house in the fire. He used to work at Honua Kai but now works for another rental company. He said he's not sure if they will call him back to work but should know by October 8th. He asked if I had any work for him. That's the reality of the current situation.
What to expect:
Keep in mind everything north and south of Lahaina is intact. That said 90% of Lahaina Town is gone. So when you drive in via the Lahaina Bypass you will see some damage. Once you come down and get back on Honoapiilani Highway and go past Safeway (which is open now) you will see what you have seen on TV. It’s bad, but there’s nothing you can do but support those people now.
Depending on when you are coming there may still be displaced families at Honua Kai as the Resort really stepped up more than anyone else in offering temporary housing. The ones that work will be understanding and grateful, and this does not need to be said but we all just need to be respectful of one another. Most of the Red Cross lodging agreements expire October 31, 2023, but they could be extended thru mid 2024.
We hear all the time how much people love Maui, how they leave a little bit of their heart in Maui when the leave, and how Maui allows their family to connect or re-connect. The truth of the matter is that Maui needs you now more than ever to come and support its people, its shops and its restaurants. That said I understand and respect that some people may see it differently, so everyone needs to make their own choice.
For guests staying with me in 2023: If your 60 days out then its and automatic refund. For those within 60 days: Go to your reservation on VRBO and submit a cancellation of the reservation. It will not automatically refund you anything, but once I receive the cancellation I will manually input a 100% refund AS SOON AS I CAN. I do not control what VRBO does with their service fee but every time I issue a 100% refund they fully refund their fee. This is our agreement to the 100% refund and all you'd have to do is show VRBO this and they will honor the refund if I didn't. It does take several business day for the refund to be processed.I cannot cancel you or VRBO dings me for cancelling a booked reservation.
JOE and RHONDA WELCOME YOU BACK TO MAUI WITH A COMPLIMENTARY BOTTLE OF CHILLED CHAMPAGNE UBOOK WITH CONFIDENCE. Aloha, my name is Joe Devane and I am a licensed Real Estate Broker in the State of Hawaii RB-18850 and the owner of Kai Malina Properties, LLC (RB-22032) here in Kaanapali. We are licensed and insured.
I WAS THE DEVELOPER'S REAL ESTATE BROKER AT HONUA KAI FROM 2009 to 2016 when we sold out! I am also a licensed attorney in both Hawaii (Bar No. 8295) and California (Bar No 178241)(voluntary inactive). Disclaimer: Never wire money as a form of payment and f the rate seems too good to be true, it is.
This explanation may help since Honua Kai can be confusing. The construction of the Luana Townhouses is 100% complete, Honua Kai is now 700 individually owned condominiums that belong to a Homeowners Association. Honua Kai is not a hotel. Every owner chooses to either use the onsite management which is now Outrigger or they choose an outside rental company (ORC). Outrigger is not the "Resort" they're just the onsite managment company. Now they own the front desk area and some other areas at Honua Kai, but all guests have access to the pools, restaurant, stores, Spa, fitness center and concierge.
This studio is located in the inner courtyard of the Hokulani Building. It over looks the Hokulani pool and the tiki torches. It's 595 sq ft with a 100 sq ft lanai. The view is incredible. Look at the pictures. Imagine that view with the complimentary bottle of champagne and the Maui chocolate covered macadamia nuts we provide.
If you are looking for multiple units on the same floor we also have a two bedroom a studio H733 (vrbo #313456) available which is down the hallway on the same floor.
Please take a look at our photos and you'll see that they are actual pictures of the unit and upon your arrival you will say that the pictures do not do this place justice. If you want to make your trip special this is the unit for you.
UPON DEPARTURE YOU LEAVE YOUR KEYS ON THE COUNTER AND GO.
We offer the following:
-With us you rent unit Hokulani 719, you don't rent a category and find out what you get when you arrive at the front desk. That 's because you don't have a front desk and with us you get actual pictures of the unit and the actual view from the unit.

-We are fortunate to Live Aloha everyday and our goal is for our guests to Live Aloha while they are our guests. Whether it's just another trip to Maui or the only trip you'll ever take to Maui, our mission is to make it special.
