The view was five star! The outdoor shower was a treat. The property landscaping was another five star. I didn’t meet the host while there, place is set up to take care of yourself. Geckos were kind of a nuisance, not really them being in and out of the house, but it was they left their waist all over the house and on the bedsheets. The amenities were adequate but dated.. Overall I would stay here again. I gave it a four star if I was a picky person it would’ve been a three star.

Superior location with stunning views, we loved relaxing on the lanai enjoying ocean breeze, meals and waves. The courtyard feel and size were perfect for us as we do not enjoy mega resorts. Beds were comfortable and also an enjoy ocean view. The location is perfect to be near enough to many attractions, amazing beaches , eateries, shopping and amenities but away from city chaos.The unit is well supplied, better than stated.The downside for us was overall cleanliness was disappointing and the bathroom is just in desperate need of updates, paint and scrubbing. Beds were nicely comfortable ( no headboards , rusty lamps) all other furniture worn way past reasonable but we spent our days exploring and we're mostly happy to bipass hanging in those areas and crash into bed. Somehow the unit is still lovable and we had an outstanding vacation.

Perfect beach front cottage. Only thing I missed was an access to the beach for walking. The cottage was clean, everything in place. The T.V.was a bit challenging, but with help, we figured it out. All in all, it was the perfect North Shore exerience.

It was in a very cute community that was very quiet and nice. The inside of the place was very run down with all the cushions having stains. I wouldn’t exactly call it Beach access. There is sand along the walkway that leads to a stone wall that has access to the ocean. There is no beach right on the property sadly, it only lead to very strong waves crashing against the stone wall all day. There were also many bugs in the inside. There were many lizards inside and a cockroach that had fallen on my husbands face while he was sleeping.

The place was clean and had every appliance needed. However, the pool was closed for repairs during our stay, and the manager was out of town. We were not told there were pay washing machines that took quarters, no credit cards and no change machine. A lot of people don’t have change readily available. In addition we were asked to wash the towels, really? Not the fault of the colony, BUT… there was a cricket outside the bedroom window that went non stop until about 4:00 am. The cottage was abou 10 feet from the ocean so the sounds of the waves were definitely very welcome and relaxing.

I’ve been coming to Hawai’i for 40 years (about 15 trips). This was my favorite stay. The property was outstanding, the community was lovely and the location was perfect. We stayed for a week in April 2025. Peaceful spot where you can relax to the sound of ocean waves. Cottage is in a wonderful small gated community near the end of the Farrington Hwy. Beautiful nearly empty beaches near by. We did an oceanfront trail ride on horses right next door. Great place if you are looking for something more low key than staying in Waikiki

Always enjoy staying at MBC. The Sand Dollar lanai is my favorite place to hang out and enjoy the trade winds and ocean view. It's sad that there is no more beach access because of the water level and the neighboring homes being threatened to wash away. Hope the State can figure out what to do so that the water doesn't get under the seawalls. Just something to be aware of if you want beach access, you will have to drive down the road.

The location is excellent. So much to see and do within a very short drive in any direction. About the only minor flaw is there isn't a sandy beach right in front of the house. The water is rough but it can still be swimmable. Plenty of turtles to see as well
The house itself is very well stocked with all the necessary items for making dinner, sleeping, showering, etc. We were able to settle into a very normal, home like routine. The windows can be opened, the fans used and it's a fantastic way to sleep listening to the waves literally right outside the home. Highly recommend!

The property and grounds are beautiful. Waterfront, short walk to beach access. However the outside the property area is not great. This is a lot of ranch area and seeing homeless and parked cars along the highway is the norm.
Secondly, this seems to be some issues between the rental management company and the people who manage the property. We had an issue with check in card not being initialed in one spot which generated lies between the 2 companies which was taken out on us in a very unprofessional way. We also had issues with the entry gate which caused us to sit outside the gate waiting for a phone call back. Both times this happened it took so long that other tenants open the gate for us.
Overall the property and setting is beautiful. Having access to a pool and the ocean is great. If the management companies can work out whatever differences they have, this would be a much, much better experience.

So nice! Our 7th trip to Hawaii, 4 Islands. This the best relaxing stay. We were up before sunrise every day and there for every sunset. It’s amazing that both are in plain view from the same place. Having an open patio was great. We read our Bibles each day outside, watching the sunrise and enjoying the waves. We saw 5 turtles our very first hour and even snorkeled with 3 during our stay. We snorkeled every morning as the tide was at its lowest, no wind in the morning. Even directly out front had good snorkeling, beautiful fish of all types. You had to find the pockets where they hung out. We stayed put most of the time with few excursions, that’s how much we likes the setting. I highly recommend stopping at Costco before you check in and buy your food. That way you can have oceanfront dining always.😊😊. The interior of the cottage is not the high end, but it’s the oceanfront we loved. Be aware of no air conditioning, fans helped. We have done nothing but tell our friends and family how much we enjoyed our stay.

About six yards from the water, I paced it off. A sea wall of around ten feet is all that keeps the ocean back, amazing unobstructed view you never tire and rocks you to sleep. The condo lanai overlooking the ocean is the best feature, inside is adequate but dated. Newer appliances help that part. A studio floor plan so a single, a couple or family with small children, are best suitability. You will never be closer and have a more spectacular view of the tropical ocean.

Sand Dollar Cottage is located in Mokuleia Beach Colony Resort. This place is a hidden gem on Oahu. The property is well maintained, the landscaping is gorgeous and it is very quiet and peaceful. Sand Dollar Cottage is located directly oceanfront. The cottage itself is very simple and clean. The view from your lanai, the stars at night and the sound of the ocean is magnificent. The views were beautiful and I saw turtles everyday.. two days in a row I saw a harp seal catching and eating fish in the water directly in front of our patio. I came for a week with my son after a week on the Big Island for a tour group. The community was beautiful done, being gated made us feel even more secure during our stay. The unit we has is right on the beach and we couldn't have asked for better. We wanted to relax and this was the perfect.place to stay and relax. We had access to the pool but the ocean was what called us. If I could I would buy this unit, that's how much we loved it. Having the constant breeze was amazing. The unit itself was ocean front and well done. We would recommend upgrading the ceiling fan but it worked well, my son just gets overheated easily. All in all we didn't want to leave.

Cottage was PERFECT! Location is great if you want a peaceful vacation. 10-15 minute drive into Haleiwa. The pool was a nice change from the ocean, everyone on the property was kind. Very low key. You are literally ON the water, at low tide you can walk the beach right out front. We would go down the steps and walk a few minutes to the left where the water was clear and swim. Lots of turtles right outside. Beach chairs & the bbq were used often! We will definitely come back to this location!!

This place is exactly what we like. It's quiet. The ocean is right out the door. There aren't any crowds. You feel like the little slice of beach is all yours. The house was clean when we arrived. It has all the amenities needed to feel right at home. For coffee drinkers, bring ground coffee with you to the house. It is a standard Mr Coffee maker and there were plenty of filters already there. This property was a wonderful place to stay.

The location and view are fantastic! The best on North Shore. The unit itself is dated. The furnishings are adequate, but need replaced much sooner rather than later and do not properly reflect the great location.The property manager on site only takes care of the common areas and are not allowed to enter the units (or so they told us). The company that collects your money doesn't seem to do much more than that. The owner, at least with us, was uninvolved in anyway. We likely would stay there again solely because of the spectacular view, and just tolerate the rest, I suppose.

This has been a wonderful place to stay. A gated area that I felt very secure and safe. We were located right at the beach and loved every moment. It was hard to go inside even to sleep.

If you’re looking for a very quiet and remote location, this is for you. Beautiful views, and sounds of the ocean are the best feature of this place. The cottage itself needs a lot of up dating and needs to be cleaned thoroughly. Taking into consideration that is humid and wet The place is musty although it was tidy, it was not the really cleaned. During a large rain storm that entire patio flooded with 2 inches or more of water, with no drainage it all pooled front of the front door. We had to squeegee it off in order to not track large amounts of water inside of the house. This could be a hazard. The house is located close to North Shore which provides shopping and restaurant options.

So, there is a common saying with People who live in Hawaii, which is "you don't move to Hawaii for the house", why? Cause homes are really expensive and you normally don't move someplace expensive unless you really want to be here, thus, the real reasons. The weather, the ocean and all that comes with it, the breezes, the flowers, I could go on, but you get the point.
To be as brief as I can, this is a relatively inexpensive villa on Oahu that is waterfront, both things are hard to find, let alone together. The villa is in a strict HOA managed community that is very well kept, beautiful, quiet and the residents keep it that way, so you're not gonna get away with anything here. The villa itself is smack dab, right on the ocean with beautiful views of both norther points of Oahu, Kaiena Point and Turtle Bay.
The villa is not what you come here for. The highlights are that it has adequate cooking pots/pans, dishes, etc. and it has a functional outdoor shower that is great and the mattresses, bedlinen and towels are comfortable and functional.
Downsides, the seating furniture is old, worn out and uncomfortable. They don't even have a lounge chair to sit outside under the shade of the nearby flowing trees. One of the best parts of a trip to Hawaii is a nap under the shade of a tree:) There is NO AIR CONDITIONING in the unit, which WILL TAKE a few days to get used to (I was stationed here in the military from 2002 - 2005) and once you get accustomed to it, it's lovely, but at first, it's hot. This unit also doesn't face the prevailing winds, so fans (of which they have a few old and wobbly) are absolutely necessary to fall asleep or to be indoors during the day.
Lastly, if you want to watch TV, it works, but it operates slowly like a 10 year old laptop that never had it's hard drive defragmented:)
For a place right on the water, in a quiet, clean, peaceful part of Hawaii with easy access to snorkeling, surfing and more on the North Shore, this place is great, but be ready to reset your expectations:). Aloha and Mahalo!

Very nice place to spend a vacation. If it has air conditioning it would have been perfect. The view is amazing and the quiet chilled out vibe is all Hawaii. It was a great place to unwind after checking out the island. I would recommend it to anyone who likes getting away to a nice country location. I didn't really know where I wanted to stay... I didn't want the crazy city life of Waikiki, we wanted to decompress and reconnect, we nailed it with this place. Our mouths dropped when we saw how close the water was to the unit. It is right there!! It was perfect for 2 people, but we were talking if we brought friends how it would be, I think you could do 4 maybe 5 People with no problem. This place is a cute little beach cottage with everything you need to get started, we were here for 9 days and it was very hard to leave. Everyone in the complex was very nice to us, it was nice to get to know the locals at the pool. We will be back!

The futon made a very uncomfortable sofa. It has a weird pitch at the back and the mattress did not stay put. I don't know why it is there because it had brackets attached that prevented it from being opened. A normal sofa and a King size bed would be a huge upgrade.

The location of this bungalow is absolutely perfect - right at the water's edge. Listening to the waves at night really gave us a sense of peacefulness and we felt so lucky to see a gorgeous sunset every night. People from bungalows further back from the beach would bring chairs up to sit and enjoy the sunset. Also enjoyed walking the beach each day and spending hours with the kids in the water. Sunday afternoon Polo match next door was fun to check out too! Would be nice to update the apt though. Needs a little love and care. Management was very responsive and helpful though - brought us an extra fan as soon as I sent an email! Thank you! Never did see the fix-it guy who was supposed to repair the dishwasher though. Oh well, we weren't bothered with it anyway. Love the location though, so we will be back!

This condo sits right next to the ocean so you can sit on the patio and listen to the waves. The beach is very narrow and soft here, so not too good for walking. Sometimes the wind came directly across the ocean and made it cold but generally comfortable. There is no air conditioning, but it was not needed. Some of the window louvres are not functional, so some needed to be propped open. The blinds do not block the light.

The complex the views are both beyond our wildest dreams, we realised from previous reviews that the Cottage may been in need of a refurb but that didn't put us off as it looked full of character, alas there's a difference between character and being broken as a lot of the cottage is. There are minimum standards for renting out property and unfortunately this doesn't come close.

Have stayed in this complex several times in other units. Although this unit could use a facelift in the kitchen ad definitely the bathroom our stay was great. The place is comfortable, well equipped, and the location on the water is perfect. Proximity to Honolulu is fine as we love the peace and quiet vs. the brutal traffic on the H1 thru Honolulu. Recommendations; ask the owner to update the bath. It doesn't need to be fancy, but newer fixtures and a vanity not made for a munchkin would be good. If you are tall, be prepared to bend way over to brush your teeth. Overall, we enjoyed it and would stay again. Thank you.

This cottage is located as advertised on beachfront, there is however no beach in front of property as the shallow lagoon comes right up to the seawall.We unfortunately experienced some windy conditions as the trade winds were quite strong. This part of the coast faces toward the direction of the onshore winds.We found the cottage to be run down and not so clean. Some linen looked to be mouldy and a towel appeared to be dirty. Bathroom was in need of a good scrub with mouldy residue around rim of bath. When agency was contacted they did send a cleaner to rectify to some degree. The barbecue supplied with coals (nice touch) was unfortunately filthy with rotten food residue on the grill. Same for one of the pans we needed to use, food residue not cleaned off from previous use.I appreciate the time of year and lack of available properties led to us having to take this property but the place could do with some attention and freshening up, especially considering the location. In saying that the entire complex looks a little run down. Staff at reception seemed unwelcoming and unhelpful, perhaps due to the Vacation Rental firm being a different outfit to the complex management staff.We won't be staying there again.

The location is amazing. The WiFi worked great. The overall complex was very peaceful and we loved the pool. We loved being way out in the country and my husband loved being able to kitesurf down-winders to Mokuleia Beach Park or drive a short distance to his favorite surf breaks.As far as the rental unit, we would definitely stay within the Mokuleia Beach Colony again but we would never stay in this unit again until it gets some much needed TLC. Previous reviews were not exaggerating the condition of the unit. It seems like it has been neglected for a long time and on an island everything requires constant maintenance. The doors and windows are corroding. The outside storage door is falling off. There were layers and piles of bug and dirt debris behind furniture and curtains. (Behind the bed and dressers was especially scary!) The floor was filthy. The sliding door and screen were so dirty we could not see out. We spend half of our first day there cleaning just to get it basically clean. We are "wash & wear" and usually go camping but even we could not spend two weeks living in those conditions. We have previously lived in Hawaii and know to keep all our food in the fridge and to clean up after meals right away but we still had many many roaches.After our first full day we emailed property management to let them know the basic condition of the unit and to let them know that one of the kitchen chairs is broken, the TV remote is corroded and does not work, and the storage shed door is corroded and broken but we did not get a reply. This unit has so much potential and it is such a shame to see it quickly deteriorating.

Couldn't be happier with my stay at the SDC during my vacation. Place is ideally situated and afforded unobstructed views of the ocean and surrounding mountains. Place was very tidy and spacious. Haliewa is nearby and although the nearest Foodland is a few miles away the views along the drive are well worth the distance. Hated to leave.

Dear Sirs,As I called you yesterday, there are problems in this house. Constantly whistles in the toilet room. I can fight this within certain limits. But this is not the most pleasant thing.When I paid for house cleaning, I was convinced that I would find the house also clean by my arrival. But there are a lot of cobwebs spidernets under the ceiling and the general condition of the house can be described as abandoned. The musty smell of a house that no one aired on our arrival.Renovation advertised by the owner of the house made in March, probable may have been done in March 2012, or with the purchase of furniture and equipment in the flea market. All that I saw is in a dramatic, depressing state.A few words about advertising photos published on your website. They are really great, but they don’t show four industrial-sized fans that make a terrible noise, even louder than the ocean surf. But this is the only way to create a little freshness inside this house. I know that it is the fault of the builders and the architect who did it in the distant 80s. They were able to achieve a miracle. The house is on the beach, has absolutely no natural ventilation. But you could tell the tenant about it.If for you the surprise is what I'm talking about, then I have an amazing collection of photos and videos with geolocation, which I can share with you in confirmation of my words.And the worst thing that could happen to us on this trip, we were left without a concierge and with 138 pocket-sized instructions that describe how and in what condition we should leave the house so as not to get a fine. It is really hard.I do not want to give advice in your business. But if it was my business to rent a "beautiful house, oceanfront", I would make it really beautiful, or abandon this house in order to avoid shame for the company.Best regardsVladimirP.S. the plumber has not yet arrive

At waters edge, this place is awesome - quiet, very good hiking trails nearby, beaches, short drive to amenities, knowledgeable Site Manager and more. Limited swimming (rougher waters). No grill as advertised, and property manager ignored email but we got over it :)

Staying in a cottage directly on the North Shore of Oahu was truly amazing!We will never forget the sounds and the beauty of the ever changing ocean. The colors of the water, the power of the waves, the crabs, snails, turtles and geckos all added to our experience. The landscaping of the grounds, the horses across from the parking lot and the sunsets were all definite plusses. I enjoyed my first stay here so much that I rented the cottage again to share with my life partner.

If your idea of Hawaii is partying on Waikiki, Kona or Maui, this is not your place. It is on the sleepy North Shore. The grounds are beautiful and you are right on the ocean. The furnishings are basic; nothing fancy. But, it has everything you need and it is on the ocean. Note that the ocean can be noisy so bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to noise while sleeping. This was our second stay here and God-willing there will be more in the future.

Pros: Beautiful location, very nice staff and helpful management.
Cons: Cottage was nice, but needs to be throughly cleaned, needs appliance and interior hardware updates, too far to drop trash and to do laundry for older vistors (bring a cart), patio settles towards the cottage so water from rain and ocean speay collects at that low point. Need to put a drain in the porch to eliminate the water from pooling at that low point.
Overall: I would recommend and stay there again!! Much Aloha!!

Location: Literally on edge of water due to seawall, so no beach. Beautiful views approximately 170 degrees. Location does not allow getting in/out water easily. Still opportunity, if you are able bodied person who doesn't need supervision to venture in water via stairs. Water very turbulent here. Consistent onshore wind. You can sit in protected patio of residence and relax. Located in gated community with some permanent residents, and "guests". At no time did I or my family feel unsafe. As per usual Hawaiian culture, very kind people if you FOLLOW THE RULES of the community and BE RESPECTFUL. Overall, location is nice for anyone who is okay with not being directly on a beach. Safe community with lots of attractions within minimal driving distance. Bring your own food, beach gear, towels, and snorkel gear to be the most self sufficient and avoid having to venture out.Cottage: Old, which is okay. Small which is okay. We had 2 adults, 2 young kids (>8 yrs). Kitchen space provides minimal ability to cook, but does allow some use. Furniture in cottage is dingy ocean/salt water air decayed. Typical. Feels like being in 1960's military barracks. Block walls, gecko poop EVERYWHERE, including on beds, drapes separating areas, and furniture. Saw mouse in kitchen. Closets are cluttered with a variety of rusty/decaying/appliances/old beach equipment. Exposed screws from door way hinges due to rust out. This level of "nature" fine for tolerant adults, not okay with young children who touch EVERYTHING. We expected geckos. They are fine. This felt like you were living in a geckos tank. Seeing the mouse, made me think was that poop I saw on 2 of 3 beds from a gecko or a mouse? Neither is sanitary. You have to hide/store/cover your food in the kitchen because of the rodents/geckos. I probably wouldn't stay again because I have kids. But for adults who have minimal expectations its just fine for price. No complaints about staff. Stay was like camping in a struct

We stayed at this location for 30 days ... the location was absolutely beautiful!!! We wouldn’t have traded it for anything. There were a few things that, if improved, this would definitely be the place to be!!! This is definitely a cottage .. and with that said, there is no a/c. We bought an extra fan for the bath area, as without it, it would have been super hot. The living room furniture and single beds, have allot to be desired. They are very, very uncomfortable. All the furniture pads were dirty and had no padding in them. The master bed is comfy but new mattress pads are needed for all beds. The current ones are old and deteriorating. We removed the master dust ruffle as it was all stained and looked terrible. Additionally, the outside tables and inside tables were dirty. The unit had not been recently cleaned and I ended up cleaning the unit on the 2nd day of vacation .. and that’s the last thing I wanted to do. We had to go to the store and buy cleaning products, trash bags, paper towels and tissues as there weren’t any in the unit. There wasn’t a mop to clean the floor. I understand that cleaning services were not included in our stay, but expected the unit to be recently cleaned when we got there. Supplies should have been there for our use, to maintain the unit. With these issues aside, we did enjoy our stay once we wrapped our expectations differently.

This oceanfront cottage worked very well for us. The Mokuleia Beach Colony (where the cottage is located) was meticulously cared for. The pool was superb. The grounds are beautiful. All the residents were friendly and helpful. Tom (the site manager) was on location, available, helpful, and knowledgeable. This area of the north shore is very quiet - just what we wanted.
Our negatives:
Bathroom needs updating (toilet is old; shower/tub could be dangerous/slippery and hard to enter/exit; one towel rack was broken).
Kitchen needs additional silverware, bowls, baking pans, etc. It's not very well stocked. Coffee pot and toaster need replacing.
Lanai frequently flooded during the night from sprinkler system. So required sweeping to remove water and make useable.
Outside storage closet contained old, broken chairs. Needs to be cleaned out.
Entry door mats are old/useless - need replacing.
Outdoor shower comes out 'in a trickle' - it's not useable.

My husband and I enjoyed our beach week get away. Enjoyed sitting outside watching the ocean and at night looking at the amazing stars. The sunset was the best. It is a peaceful place with friendly neighbors. Our stay was perfect!

This is a hidden gem in Mokeleia. The location is amazing. You are literally beachfront with the ocean crashing in front of your lanai.
If you are looking for peace and quiet with an incredible view and the sound of waves, this is the place for you.

Very old and run down, dated, mismatched fans and dehumidifiers everywhere due to heat and no a/c. The only request I made PRIOR to my stay was that there be an ironing board (an amenity listed for this property). When I called to verify this prior to my trip I was told "who irons?' (I was attending a wedding and we were wearing gauze and linen). I also asked and was told there would be 2 beach towels (I didn't want to pack some if they were available at the property). When we got there we had no ironing board and no beach towels! We called twice and after 2 days received an new ironing board, 4 towels (only needed 2) and an unneeded iron (there was an iron there already). If the tradewinds hadn't been blowing, we would have died from the heat and we live in a place that regularly is in the 100 to 110 degree range all summer. We were on the ocean, which was beautiful, and the manager of the place and the residents we met were very nice, but the rules were so restrictive I couldn't have my local friends or relatives even STOP BY!

Couldn’t have been better! Comfortable beds. Great location. Kitchen was well stocked. Plenty of linens and towels. The fans were a life saver. Turtles put on a show for us every day from the balcony. The grounds are splendid and the pool is warm.

Spectacular ocean location & view. The outdoor porch is where we spent most of our time. Despite the constant ocean breeze the house could not be well ventilated and we required several fans running 24 seven to keep the air moving. The bed linens and towels were worn & need replacing. There was a musty smell whenever we had to keep the doors closed. The bathroom faucets were loose and poorly functional and the outdoor shower was not serviceable due to a piling up of chairs and other outdoor equipment. No useable beach front altho there are close beaches within driving distance. Television and Wi-Fi were great although they were not used frequently. All of the appliances worked well. In summary, terrific location, but several areas need improvement.

I absolutely loved this property from the minute I arrived. The ocean is two steps away and always beautiful to watch and listen to. The plantings within the complex are colorful, interesting and well maintained. There are birds and geckos on land and crabs on the seawall!
The cottage had everything I needed and I felt safe and comfortable staying there by myself. The people in the other cottages were just friendly enough.
I walked on the beach every morning and enjoyed stunning sunsets. Super fun watching the skydivers from the patio! One day we ate at the food truck on the airfield and could watch them coming in for their landings.
The location worked well for me. It was out of the hustle-bustle of North Shore but close enough to everything. My daughter, son-in-law and new grandson live on the military base. This property was only 20 minutes away and offered us a great place to hang out.
I have already booked ten days for February 2022!
