The property management company, Destination Residences Wailea, was TERRIBLE! I booked this unit 6 months in advance and was called by the rental company two weeks before my trip, trying to move me to another property/location due to “painting.” After talking to several people, I learned that the “painting” was a lie and they had doubled-booked the property and were trying to bump us out. In addition, they wanted to charge me an additional $770 in hidden fees at the time of check-in despite being fully paid on Vrbo. The management company is also located at a different location than the unit which was inconvenient.
The unit itself was wonderful! The best view on the island, very private, great beaches, amazing snorkeling, quiet, safe, and well stocked. Great of families. The Makena Surf Resort was a wonderful location. The unit was a bit outdated but the location/view was well worth it. Loved the unit!!

Our stay began with an unexpected and unwelcome surprise when the property management company for this condo informed me that because I booked through VRBO I had to pay over a thousand dollars for using their service. This charge was in addition to all the fees included in my VRBO booking and the incremental fee was not flagged in the listing.
If the condo owner chooses to use a property management company that is their choice but I shouldn't be forced to pay over a thousand dollars more just to collect the check-in code and parking pass at the property manager's office.
Beware of unexpected fees if you book this condo!!!

Wonderful location, incredible views. We were here for a family wedding and had a great time watching for whales and swimming with the turtles. This 3 bedroom, 2 bath corner condo was beautifully decorated with easy access to pool and beach.

If you walked around the property while staying at Makena Surf this is the property you would want to be renting. You have the beach at your feet, the lanai to watch the whales, turtles in the surf and sunsets on the horizon. Truly 270 degrees of visibility. The condo and kitchen were very well appointed. The only thing lacking was flatware and sufficient plates…we had to run the dishwasher after almost every meal. This place provided a great “home”for the vacation of a lifetime. We would rent this unit again in a heartbeat!

Beautiful property! Well appointed and comfortable. Walk out the wall of windows to the wrap around lanaii and grassy lawn overlooking the black lava rock coastline. We enjoyed spectacular sunsets while grilling and dining on the lanaii. Walking distance to sandy beaches and not too far to drive to restaurants and grocery stores. Beds were comfortable for our 5 adults. We could see whales from the living room (bring your binoculars) and saw turtles while snorkeling in front of the condo. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Gorgeous tropical gardens, koi fish pond, pool, jacuzzi, bbq, sand and sun along a very popular sea turtle and ray snorkeling site. An adjacent beach has a nice sandy shore and subdued waves. We didn't find any surfing in this location, but nice for swimming. The caretakers do an amazing job and the housekeeping was every four days which was much appreciated. The full washer/dryer is helpful with keeping towels fresh. The condo furnishings were up to date and easily sleeps 6 and 8 with pull out sofa in the living room. There is a large gas BBQ on the lanai and a patio table where you can dine under the stars. Shopping and the Four Seasons, which is particularly nice for lunch, is within a couple of miles. The condo does not have any pantry staples, not even salt or pepper so bring everything. There are a few beach chairs but you would need to bring boogie boards or snorkeling equipment. The check in staff was great and very accommodating upon our arrival. If I return to Maui, I would definitely stay at Makena Surf. This corner unit is absolutely beautiful.

We have stayed in this unit several times and it is the prime location. The only drawback is everyone else likes to gather in front of the unit for sunset pictures. One can hardly blame them but it does detract from your enjoyment. Also sorry to see sand toys, boogie boards and umbrella no longer at the unit. Great outdoor patio furniture. Very comfortable for relaxing. Well stocked kitchen.
