The condo was clean although the box spring in the bed room had something that looked like rust close to the headboard on the left side and my husband refused to sleep in that bed. We slept on the sleeper sofa our entire stay, which was comfortable. The beach view from the condo was awesome, but driving to the condo was miles of homeless camps, we were never bothered by them. The entire property felt very safe, we walked on the beach but spent most of our time checking out the island. The owner was very accessible which we appreciated.

When we first arrived we were extremely unhappy. The homeless population in that area of the island is horrible. They live in tents on the beaches. There are no quality restaurants on that side of the island. The drive to Honolulu or anywhere else is long. The furniture is old and needs to be updated. With that being said, the view was awesome. We just wish we had known before we booked.

I’ll start off with the one negative because the rest of the review will be glowing! If you’re looking for a relaxing beach vacation or if you have children and just want to play on the beach or in the water, THIS is your place! Everyone at the resort is SO friendly and we felt safe the entire time. The beach is amazing, not crowded, and so beautiful. We saw Sea Turtles and whales from the shore and our room every day! If you are looking for a more adventurous, sight seeing vacation, you might want to stay closer to Honolulu because we had to drive about 30-45 min to see North Shore, Hawaii Kai, Honolulu, Polynesian Cultural Center, etc. the drive is still beautiful and not bad at all!
Overall, my husband, daughter and I loved our stay! My daughter was in heaven (she’s 5) playing on the beach every day!

Security was very helpful when we first arrived. We checked in at the gate and was let in. We were unaware we needed a key to get through the elevators to our room but luckily we caught a ride up with one of the vacationers. As soon as u open the door u can see the ocean view. Took off our shoes and headed to the balcony. Just beautiful. The place is equipped with everything you need so don’t pack extra. The only two things the washer door u need to lift up a little and hold it while you push the start button. The bedroom Tv needs to be reset so it can be used. We enjoyed our stay and Thank you for letting us rent this piece of paradise. Mahalo

This location was perfect. Super secure, you have to fob in and fob out. The beach is literally right outside of the lobby. The room we stayed in was fully furnished, clean, & even has extra stuff for the beach. Waianae isn’t in the city so of course we knew we had to drive to do certain activities but you can’t beat the quality of the room and view!

The view from this property is nothing short of spectacular! We spent every morning on the balcony enjoying our morning coffee. Jody was a joy to work with and the check in process was so easy. The sunsets were spectacular!! The property is located in a nice neighborhood with a drugstore and a supermarket close by. And the condo has everything you would ever need for a day at the beach. Book this unit for your next trip to Oahu. You will be happy you did!

Spent 7 fabulous nights at The Hawaiian Princess, couldn't have asked for a better experience. Traveled with my wife and 2 kiddos (5 & 8) and the space was great. The condo was very well appointed, had everything we needed cooking wise. The sand toys, boogie boards, chairs and snorkeling gear were great. Both kids loved snorkeling to see all the beautiful sea life including, coral, tons of turtles and even a stingray! Location was walkable to a CVS to grab snacks and beverages and a grocery store was 4 minute drive away. Can't wait to get back next year!

We just came home from 8 days at this property. The view from here reminds me of a balcony cabin on a cruise ship. You can hear the waves crashing and the sunset is right in front of you. We spent so much time on the patio. I went with my 3 daughters (17,17,20) so be aware there is not a lot of space but we put a futon on the floor and made sleeping arrangements work for us. The hosts are generous with most things you might need such as boogie boards, towels, coolers, etc. There were only a few rolls of toilet paper, ziplock bags, trash bags and detergent so be aware that you are expected to purchase those things if/when you run out.
The location on the west coast does make your drive to the North Shore and/or to Honolulu/Waikiki an hour+ but those drives are beautiful and we didn't mind. There are great restaurants close by and a Costco/Cheesecake Factory/Olive Garden only 20 min away. Starbucks is only 5 minutes away.
We felt very safe at the condo. We saw the tents people talk about but loved watching all the locals with their dogs on the beach as well as a little man that walks and picks up trash every day. Everyone was very friendly.
When we landed back in Texas, we received word from the hosts that they were disappointed in our execution of the cleaning checklist. We were blamed for not taking out the trash (which we did) and for a stain on a chair (which we never saw.) That was not a fun email to come home to so just be aware and to ask questions if you aren't certain. For example, we were asked if we started the wash for the cleaning crew which 1. it was not outlined to do that and 2. they did not leave enough detergent to do that - so that whole exchange felt strange to me.
Regardless, overall we had a perfect time in Hawaii. We loved the recommended hikes to watch the sunrise and saw huge turtles at turtle beach. We could see whales from time to time off the patio so bring your best binoculars. There were also a couple turtles that swam up to the beach for a quick minute.

The condo needs work. Much of the finish work needs to be replaced. The DVD player in the living room doesn’t work. The neighborhood is scary, junky, and doesn’t have much choice of restaurants. Neighborhood reminds me of Mexico, I definitely wouldn’t feel safe taking a walk. The view was great from the deck is spectacular.

We enjoyed our vacation. We extended a business meeting for eight days and this location was a good choice. The view is great. It’s near grocery stores (liquor store is inside most grocery stores) and we found some fun and good places to eat and have drinks at. We had a car rental so we were able to explore and enjoy the island. You are 30 miles from the airport and traffic can be heavy week days and Saturdays so plan ahead or use WAZE.
Property is older but maintained well. Owners responded well and we had no problems. One of the elevators was out of order for most of our stay. There’s a building manager and a timeshare manager which was a little confusing. There is a guard attendant on duty but not much help. We never had to run the air conditioning and flow through ventilation was excellent. The ocean waves sound like they are in the room even though you are on the 5th floor. One small irritation that had nothing to do with the property owners is there are lots of chickens on the island including the neighbors across the street. Expect to be wakened by the rooster each morning if you are using the flow through ventilation 🐓

My husband and I enjoyed our stay, the place was just right for the two of us, it had all the necessities to cook and was reasonably clean. Place is gated and a Security guard is on site. We watched turtles swim by, surf was entertaining to watch some days, sunbathing on what felt like a secluded beach which was nice, and amazing sunsets. My husband and I were looking to enjoy beautiful Hawaiin beaches and warm ocean waters and that's what we got here! The views from the veranda are unbeatable and the beach was nearly empty. The neighborhood is not geared towards tourists which we loved. We shopped at the local grocery store and ate at the local Hawaiin barbeque spot. We felt like we got to experience authentic Oahu and not deal with all the other tourists. The condo has everything we needed, along with a lovely pool and hottub. Although we had some trouble checking in, management at the Hawaiin Princess took care of us. And Jody was responsive and explained what happened. She also sent leis to celebrate our anniversary! It was a lovely stay and exactly what we were looking for! We saw amazing sunsets, several turtles and even a rainbow. A perfect and romantic Hawaiin vacation!

The property managers were wonderful to work with and gave us lots of advice about things to do in the area. We felt like we were in our our own little secluded world and despite the sketchy neighborhood, we felt safe at out condo and there were very few people at the beach at any given time. The only draw back was the extra 30-40 minutes of driving each morning and evening when we went on adventures. I would definitely stay here again.

This was our first time to the island and we had an amazing time staying at this property, unit 505. The daily view of the ocean from the room was outstanding and we enjoyed many meals from the lanai while we were there. The beach is outstanding. Soft white sand and never crowded during our stay as it sits between two mountains. This was exactly what we were looking for. The place was decorated to make one feel comfortable and relaxed. The kitchen was well stocked and we enjoyed being able to grill out on days we weren't out and about. The construction taking place didn't interfere with our planned beach days. The storage unit on the lanai and the closet inside had all that you needed for enjoying the beach or even taking in some snorkeling. Every day was sunny and some days had a few clouds to help provide relief from the sun. We met many nice people staying there and the staff was very friendly. We enjoyed our stay away and look forward to returning to this remote, hidden gem. Mahalo to Matt and Jody for a wonderful vacation at your place in paradise.

Condo is very well appointed, nicely decorated in Hawaiian theme, clean & has all the comforts of home. The property is very well maintained, secure & we found the staff on site very friendly & helpful. The beach is absolutely amazing - definitely one of the nicest beaches on Oahu. We enjoyed having the use of the ping pong table on site as well. Owners were very attentive & a pleasure to deal with. If you are looking for a place to relax & unwind that is completely away from the hustle bustle of the City, this is it!

This was a lovely, secure, well equipped condo. The beach was beautiful...very private. We get up early and, at times, we were the only ones on the beach. The sand was soft and clean. We saw the turtles in the water every morning and the whales put on a show for us, breaching right out of the water. My only complaint is the surrounding area. It seems a very poor area and we took a drive around and there was junk on the side of the road... discarded cars, mattresses, sofas,etc. There were no nice restaurants in the area... lots of fast food... way too much. We asked the locals where to eat, so we went to some of the local restaurants, but if you want a really nice dining restaurant, you have to drive to Pearl Harbour/ Honolulu area. I guess you might call it an up and coming area...perhaps in a few years there will be the population to support better shopping and dining.

From the moment you step off the elevator you realize paradise is yours for the taking. What a view! What a fun place to enjoy the sun, the sand, the surf, and all the mysteries of Oahu.
You may have to drive a little to get to the bigger attractions but it is a small price to pay for sitting in paradise instead of the overpriced, overcrowded and totally overrated high rises of Honolulu hotels. The condo itself is plenty big enough for two adults and two children. Anything more would be a crowd. All of the expected amenities plus just the right toys (snorkel gear, noodles, boogie boards, etc ) that kids need to be kids. Clean, immaculate and just darn right wonderful place. Would go again and stay in a second.

What a wonderful place to stay. The beach is directly below you and you could spend all day on your lanai watching the turtles, waves, boats passing by, snorkel lets, whales spouting and breaching, people climbing Lahilahi (recommend doing it at least once), kids (little and big) playing in the water having the time of their lives! Of course, you will want to the same but it is nice to feel like you are at the beach while having all the comforts of home. 505 is well equipped and it will feel like home right away. We loved walking on our beach every day, watch out for waves that come up unexpectedly high at times. The waves can be big at times but there are always breaks to get in and out if you don't like them. Lots of good beaches around if you want calmer water. Makaha just two minutes up the road has good snorkelling, a lifeguard and shade parking. There is a great hike/walk up north on the point that we really enjoyed. We also went on a boat tour EO out of Waianae Harbour just 3-4 minutes south of here. Swam with dolphins, turtles and lots of fish, tried paddleboarding, kayaking. Great crew and lots of fun to be on the boat. Since the traffic can be crazy at times, I would try explore the west side and not venture too far too often. Good restaurants we liked close to home: Spicy House, Kahumana Farm and Cafe, Coquitos, and Crawfish shack. There were lots of other ones that we heard good things about but we also liked grilling our own dinner, too. The bbqs were cleaned every morning. The grounds and pool were all tidy everyday. The elevators were fast and staff helpful. This place and area is not for those that like high end shopping, dining, hotels, etc. But then you are paying a fraction of what you would at one of those places and have crowds. Our beach and the others around were never too busy. There is a good Farmers Market behind Starbucks in Waianae on Satrudays, 8-12. There is a Longs and a good super market in town. Matt and Jody are quick to respond if you have any concerns or questions. We hope to come back and plan to recommend this place to friends and family back home. Lots of the people we met here are regulars and we can see why. Yes, there are homeless people here but everyone we encountered was friendly and we always felt safe.

We reserved this property in June for October. At that time there was no mention of construction on the property. When we arrived we were shocked to see half the building was undergoing construction which affected access to the pool area and resulted in the barbq area being closed.
The loud noise during the weekdays made it impossible to peacefully enjoy our vacation in the condo every weekday from 0800-1600.
The onsite property management did not understand why the owner didn't tell us about the construction, because they said it had been going on since spring and everyone knew it would be going on well into November.
When revisiting the website for this property upon arrival we saw construction was now mentioned and a reduced rate was being offered during this rental period.
The condo building and location is nice, but be wary of renting from this particular owner. Based on our experience I would not trust them. We were told our damage deposit check was mailed back to us, but we never received it. They offered to pay us for the stop fee charge if we showed them proof of the cost, but I am not going to show them a copy of our bank statement. They also did not respond to our question about the unit just prior to us leaving. These are smaller issues, but the failure to tell us about the construction is a major issue which shows a lack of concern for their customers. If things work out for you, you are lucky and in no way is this owner responsible for your good fortune.

Our 8 nights stay at Hawaiian Princess became one of the most memorable stays. The unit was equipped with everything we needed. We were spoiled having a direct access to the nice beach right in front of the property. The clean & uncrowded beach was so nice that we spent most of the time there. We snorkeled and saw tons of fish swimming right below us. We saw some turtles swimming by us as well. There were rocks just a few yards out in the water where the fishes found their hiding spots. We were thankful that the unit was equipped with gears including various sizes of water shoes we could use. We had a few days when the wave was a little strong that even a good size adult can lose balance, but the rest was fine. The view from lanai in the morning and sunset was priceless. The only down side is that the property is located in a little suspicious neighborhood tucked away from tourist attractions. Since we spent most of the time either in the gated property or driving out to tourist attractions, we did not mind the neighborhood. The traffic to/from Honolulu was usually heavy, at least 1/2 hour to Kapolei (about 15 miles) or 1-1.5 hour to Honolulu (about 35 miles). If your main purpose to stay in Oahu is to enjoy the beach, this is the place.

We enjoyed our stay at Jody and Matt's condo on Makana Beach.
This beach is pristine with swimming pool clear water and white sand and the best part, it is never crowded! The condo is in an area of locals, where some of the residential areas look a bit run down, however, the condo building and property is clean and very secure, parking was great.
The unit contained everything we needed, quite comfortable and clean, albeit in need of basic maintenance. The owners even provide beach gear such as boogie boards, chairs etc.
Unfortunately, midway through our stay, there was exterior construction which was quite loud, prompting us to leave the condo.
Bottom line: This is a very nice condo, with a great fifth floor view of the stellar beach.

The Hawaiian Princess was a huge surprise. This is probably the nicest beach I have seen in Hawaii. The rental unit was clean and worked perfectly for our family of four. I highly recommend Jody and Matt Ballard's condo at the Hawaiian Princess and want to reinforce every other positive review I myself read before booking our stay. The unit was clean, comfortable, quiet and incredibly convenient, with stunning views of the immaculate (and almost completely empty) beach from our balcony. All you can hear day and night is the soothing sound of waves crashing onto the beach. The Hawaiian Princess is well-run, with friendly staff, 24 hour security and a gated entry, and the swimmable beach is literally at your doorstep. While dining options are limited, as others have pointed out, Kapolei is an easy 20-30 minute drive away, and there are numerous dining and shopping options available there. Locally, you can get fast food and there is a Starbucks just a few minutes down the road where a Longs drugstore is, if you need a quick pick me up or any necessities. If you are interested in a beach vacation, away from the crowds and expense of Honolulu, this is the place to go. While it is true that Wainae is not the most affluent area on the island, we did not find this to be an issue at all, as others have also pointed out.This is our second trip to HI and our first stay at the Hawaiian Princess. We learned during our first trip that swimmable beaches are not as numerous as you might think in HI, and many "beachfront" options may have nice views of a beach, but because of dangerous surf, or coral reefs, rocks, etc., the beaches are only safe for experienced surfers at best. So having a truly swimmable beach available 24/7 is a true luxury. Finally, I want to commend Jody and Matt Ballard as exceptionally responsive and reliable owners. We had a couple of minor problems and they responded immediately to resolve them. They were friendly, pleasant and helpful, and clearly care about their renters. We could not have been more pleased and definitely will come back whenever we make another trip to HI. My son, grandson and daughter in law, who live in Kaploei, were so impressed with our unit and the gorgeous and spacious beach, they are considering renting it for a "staycation" for themselves, as well as for her parents when they visit from Japan. So even locals like my family recognize what an incredible value and beach experience this condo provides. I think that says it all.

Jody was amazing in helping us with a last minute reservation as our previously booked home turned out to be a disaster. She definitely made our trip go from boo to AMAZING. I can't believe how lucky we were to find this place. The condo has everything you need, the VIEW IS UNBELIEVABLE, and sitting on a nearly secluded beach after a long day of excursions was heaven. Not to mention that the secure, gated parking is a huge bonus. Thank you again Jody for making our vacation turn out to be unforgettable. We cant stop talking about it. We will be back for sure.

We booked this unit last minute when original plans fell thru. Jody was super responsive and even took time from her day to answer my many questions before arrival. Condo was CLEAN! View was unbelievable! Enjoyed sunset every night from the lanai. After staying here for 4 days we took our kids to Aulani... upon arrival to Aulani our kids said they MISSED THE CONDO! Aulani is heaven on earth for kiddos so the fact that they missed the condo speaks to how comfortable our children were there :) Book this little slice of paradise and you won't be disappointed.

We had a good stay, it was nice on short notice to find something reasonable when our original plan didn't work out. We enjoyed the views and the condo was nicely appointed. We did struggle with the fact the sofa bed air mattress wouldn't stay inflated and it was a bit of a hassle to have to re inflate it every night during the night but we made the best of the situation. Hopefully the problem was fixed and I'm sure future guests can enjoy a full nights rest on the inflated mattress. Overall the vacation went well. Thanks

This is a calm, peaceful place to relax, away from the city. The view is outstanding from the lanai; we saw several turtles swimming by in the clear turquoise water. This unit was well-equipped and comfortable. The lobby had a large lending library.
Our only problem was we couldn't figure out how to sign on to the Wi-Fi and the property manager couldn't help us. Wi-Fi WAS available in the lobby and at the pool, though.

Spent a week here over Christmas. The location and beach are stunning. The waves were very big during our whole stay, and were really too big for our 7/9 year old kids to play in. They got beat up a few times and then retreated to the beach to play. The ocean was cold so we tried the pool, but it is not heated and is even colder than the ocean. There are other calmer beaches nearby, so we explored others where our kids could play and swim in the water safely. The unit itself is small, but very well equipped. The fridge had basic condiments, salad dressings, etc and a spice cupboard was quite well stocked. The only thing I missed during the week was a potato masher when making our Christmas dinner, which was not a big deal at all. There were 3 good boogie boards, life jackets, sand toys, snorkel gear and beach chairs all provided. The queen bed was comfortable, but the sofa bed was awful. You could feel every spring, so after the first night my children chose to sleep on the floor on futon mattresses that are supplied. We had issues with the washing machine making a horrendous grinding sound during the rinse cycle and the property manager was away during our stay, so this was a bit frustrating. On the 4th day we finally received a call from the owner. She was very kind and was aware of previous problems with the machine. We were still able to use the washer for the remainder of the week, but during the day only and not while anyone was sleeping, due to the loud noise. The toaster wasn't working for us either, but after speaking with the owner a new toaster was delivered to our door. I would absolutely stay here again. Lots to see and do in the area and within a 30 minute drive. I found it a bit noisy to sleep at night with traffic and building noise, but by turning on the floor fan in the bedroom I was able to drown it out. One more thing . . . We frequently ran out of hot water and would have to wait between showers. Not that big a deal while on holidays but I wouldn't want to deal with that every day.

It could have not been a more ideal location. We loved the beach but also the beautiful lava mountain to explore and fish from. The view is amazing. Love love love this place. Perfect place for our first visit to Oahu. Jan the property manager was wonderful and receptive to work with.

I have nothing but positive things to say about this place and the people. I stayed here with my husband and two small children, ages 2 and 4. The management and security made us feel safe and welcome upon arrival. The grounds were absolutely breathtaking and the people that live here were very kind to my children which means everything to a mother! The unit itself was very clean with a multitude of beach toys, towels, boogie boards, etc readily available. The view from the lanai was incredible and we enjoyed listening to the waves every night lulling us to sleep. I highly recommend this place and was very sad to leave.
