Return visits say it all. We love this unit. Stayed here previously in 2015 and 2018. Glad to see it was available for our week in the Big Island this time. Well appointed and equipped. Everything clean and in working order. Great location nearer Volcanoes National Park than Hilo or Kona. Scrumptious bakery just up the road. Great black sand beach. Miss the golf course but the condo complex is well maintained and quiet. Hope to return again.

We completely enjoyed our stay at Hale Ke Kai. It's a fabulous location both island wise and within the complex. Unobstructed views of the ocean and the old golf course. The unit is very well stocked, spices in the kitchen, linens, paper products and Aloha. We spent a week here and felt revitalized when we left. It's one hour to Hilo, 40 mins to Volcanos Natl. Park and a hour and a half to Kailua-Kona. It's a bit remote and that's what we wanted. We will stay here again in the future if available.

I knew we'd be out there... but this spot is absolutely perfect for enjoying nature without having to give up too many amenities (with a child, kind of a must...for now). Do your grocery shopping prior, and enjoy the heck out of this property. Pull out bed is actually extremely comfortable, and we let my daughter sleep in the main room so we could hear the ocean at night.

The home was exactly as advertised. It is in a quite rural area, so car is definitely recommended for getting around town, to go eat out or go grocery shopping. A black sand beach is five minutes walking distance away and it’s beautiful, and there are green turtles sunning themselves there too.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 40th anniversary trip to the Big Island. The condo was perfect for an adult couple with lots to see and do within driving distance, or just stay home and lounge on the patio or at the pool. The turtles at the Black Sands Beach were only a few minutes away. All around great time.

My husband and I just returned from our trip and We loved this perfect little cottage! I found this place using accessibility filters on vrbo as my husband is a wheelchair user. Just a quick heads up to other wheelchair users- this space is a little tight to navigate (especially if you use a power chair). The door is also really really heavy (husband couldn’t open it on his own) and the hill leading to the house is very steep. This is not AT ALL Meant to come across as a negative review- we had a lovely time and loved being at the house. Just wanted to give a heads up to any other wheelchair users looking for an accessible space. It is technically accessible” but by the end of the week my husband was a little frustrated.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hale Kekai. We had a tv problem and Jeff was quickly responsive in solving the issue. While it turned out to be unsolvable, it didn't impact our stay at all but he made it up to us regardless. The pool area is was never busy and had a beautiful view. We walked to the black sand beach and had a great time seeing the turtles. We would surely stay again!

This is an absolutely lovely property and location. I loved sitting on the patio and listening to the ocean and the birds in the morning and evenings. It’s close to Volcanoes National Park - it’s absolutely perfect if you plan to spend a lot of time in the park. We got up early each day and made it to the park by 7AM and had all the trails to ourselves. That alone is worth the stay. The black sand beach is within walking distance and you’ll see green sea turtles and nēnē wandering around. It feels a world away from any other part of the island. The condo was older but clean and well taken care of. Really, it’s perfect. We loved it so much and I hope we’ll come back again. Jeff was also wonderful. He stayed in touch and was always friendly. I really can’t recommend it enough! I wish we had stayed longer!

We enjoy this little cottage- it was quiet and peaceful and had a wonderful view of the sunrise in the mornings and the ocean. The quick walk down to Punalu’u Beach was nice and we saw turtles almost every day. Even though there wasn’t AC (which we knew) it cooled off at night and we slept fine. You’re close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park; however, not much else. I’d highly recommend the Tuk Tuk Thai Food Truck in Volcano and the Punalu’u Bake Shop in Naalehu- both were excellent. There were a few insects at the condo- the deck must have an ant colony somewhere under the cement that should be addressed. Despite that, we would definitely stay again. 😊

We loved the location, and being able to get away from it all. We stopped by the grocery story when we landed, and loaded up on basics. From there we headed to the condo and were pleasantly surprised with all of the amenities and easy access. Amazing views, location and all the guests we encountered were very friendly. We enjoyed our stay in this condo, it was the perfect break from the busyness of Kona. Nice layout/furnishings and the patio is such a great private location in a peaceful complex, with a neat view of the old golf course and ocean. Great hot tub just down the sidewalk.
Close to Punalu’u black sand beach and we also liked Whittington Beach park, which was not far down the road, and of course the easy access to the S/SE corners of the island - we were glad we stayed on the south end for part of our trip to cut down on days spent driving.
Abnormally wet weather impacted the entire island during our stay but we still enjoyed sitting under the patio awning, and the slopes to the north blocked the wind so it was much more pleasant here than some areas. The road to the west was flooded on our way back to the Kona airport, but it was probably easier to drive around through Hilo in the rain anyway, so no big deal.

This unit had the best view of the whole complex. We sat for hours listening to and watching the ocean. It was a short walk to Punalu’u Black Sand Beach and a 10 minute drive to Na’ahilu where you can find a couple of cafes and the famous Punalu’u Bake shop. South Point was also close by and the National Park is only 35 minutes away. It does get warm in the unit in the daytime but there are plenty of fans to keep it cool at night. A perfect quiet getaway in the southern part of the Big Island.

We loved our stay here -- a great place to stay to be closer to things on the southern and eastern part of the island. Easy day trips to Hilo, Volcanoes National Park, green sand beach - and the black sand beach is right there. The view from the place cannot be beat. Pool and hot tub were great too! One thing we didn't pay close attention to - this spot is really on its own - bring food with you or just know there are limited options (and the ones that exist close early) for restaurants or grocery stores. Not a minus - just important to know! Hosts were responsive and helpful. We loved this spot!!

The condo was perfect for two. All the neighbors were friendly and we did visit the black beach once. We were out adventuring every day as the condo is about 30 minutes from Volcanoes NP and 1.5 hours from adventures in Kona.. Naalehu had a good farmers market and we stocked up on fish, fresh bread and fruit. Naalehu is about 15 minutes. The nearest larger grocery store is in Ocean view, 20 minutes from the condo. The condo had all cooking needs covered, beach towels, fins and a boogie board. We had coffee on the patio with a view of the ocean every morning. Also, the ceiling fans moved air nicely and kept the condo comfortable.

The proximity (short walk)
to Punalu’u Beach where you can enjoy the black sands, snorkeling with tropical fish, and observing sea turtles underwater contently going about their days was simply awesome! Volcano Nation Park was only about a 30-minute drive away as well. The shared pool and hot tub on-site were very nice with beautiful landscaping, nighttime stars, sunrise and sunset views! The space had everything we needed including linens and beach towels. Check-out was very hands-off and easy.

Nice private unit at the end of the Colony One project. It's a very pleasant, relaxing place to stay for a few days. Only complaints is the unit wasn't as clean as we hoped (fair amount of dirt and even animal droppings littered around property) and needs updating (e.g., outside table is uncomfortable and could use an umbrella to block the glaring sun). Fairly well stocked (...though there was no soap in bathroom.; had to use hand sanitizer instead). Notwithstanding such hiccups, would recommend the place as a nice relaxing get-away.

The condo is as advertised. It feels like you have your own back yard. The nice breeze and sunrises cannot be beat. The bed was very comfortable. The condo was well stocked with towels, kitchen items, and beach items. Communication with the owner was top notch. There is a nice view of the ocean and mountains. We loved the location for exploring the east side of the island. Having Punalu’u Black Sand beach so close by was incredible and easily walked to. There is no air conditioning, but that is stated in the description. They do have ceiling fans and 3 extra fans to keep you cooler. I highly recommend this condo. It is off the beaten path, which we love, serene, peaceful, and as private as you can get being in a condo.

The condo is very clean and had all that we needed. The condo project is very well kept and generally very quiet. This area is isolated but we knew that before we visited and we were prepared to drive some distance to see the sights. Or just stay and enjoy the peace of the condo. Some people have complained about the lack of air conditioning but we found it to be quite comfortable utilizing the breeze, sliding doors and louvered windows. It is also very nice that it has two remote smoking areas and no smoking within the condo area. The beach is busy but so easy to walk to and enjoy anytime of the day.

This place is the ideal place if you wanna relax and want to enjoy beautiful scenery. Walking distance to black sand beach which is breathtaking. We got married down there during our stay and it was amazing. Yes, this place is far away from any major towns but there is still so much to see and do. There are lots of little restaurants and food trucks that are not that far. Naahalu has the best pastry shop. Volcano park is a close drive and have amazing restaurants inside and the trip to hilo is a straight shot and worth the drive. Drove to kona once. Hated the curvy road and way to much tourists for my likings. I was ready to get back out to the serenty of this place. We will definitely be returning.

Condo was not accurate in descriptions! Refrigerator did not work for being a year old. Had to throw away meat and fish due to it not getting cold enough. Said it had new bed and upgraded kitchen utensils. Not true. These condo people make lots of money on renting them out they should have decent pots, pans silverware and a fridge that works. Other than that it was a good place. The advertisement of condo still has pictures of the golf course that is closed down. Should have updated pictures in my opinion. We still liked the condos just don't like being lied to.

Jeff has a nice, clean condo in a remote location on the south side of the island with easy access to an impressive black sand beach and a view of the ocean. If you are looking to get away from it all and explore the South side of the island this is a good spot for sure! I would recommend stocking up on groceries prior to your arrival because there aren't restaurants or grocery stores close by but it's a nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Kona and Hilo.

A separate chapter of our honeymoon far from the city that had us enchanted at the beautiful night sky and sunrises everyday. A quick walk to black sand beach with sleeping sea turtles was fun along with a short 40 min drive to Volcano national park. No AC which is fine as long as you open the vents around the property. The pool area staff were very touchy so if you plan to grill/chill read the rules beforehand. Only other ding was there were quite a few ants if you leave food out, so as long as your diligent it won’t be a problem.

Really lovely cottage with a lanai that looked out over coconut palms and ocean. We enjoyed all the amenities - a well- stocked kitchen, laundry, and nearby communal pool, hot tub and grill. We walked the half mile to the Black Sand Beach daily and enjoyed swimming and spotting sea turtles. The night sky from the lanai - breathtaking! Things that could have been better: a more efficient toaster, the fridge wasn't cold enough, and 1 of my teens had to sleep on the floor rather than share the pullout couch. All very minor inconveniences in the scheme of this gorgeous, out of the way setting. Thank-you!

The description of this property does not do it justice! This is a spacious, private condo with lots of windows and a beautiful lanai to catch the breezes, the sound of the ocean, and THE VIEW! We loved our stay here because it was quiet, private, comfortable, and convenient. We went to a coffee farm, south point, Captain Hook, Hilo, the volcanoes, and so much more. But my favorite thing was sitting out back with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, watching the waves crashing, listening to the ocean, watching the birds, and just relaxing. The grill area was great and never busy. There is a grocery store not too far. Our only regret was that we didn’t stay longer. We will be back!

This property is located near Volcanoes National Park & Punaluu black sand beach. It is equipped with everything you could possibly need, the view is wonderful and it is not overlooked by other units. Jeff, the host was exceptionally helpful when we needed to postpone our trip due to the pandemic. I needed a shower chair & Jeff arranged for a friend to deliver it that morning. His kindness was much appreciated.

Even though this property has neighbors we truly experienced a quiet respite from our days of exploration. The shared pool and hot tub soothed our bodies from our hours long hike and the private porch afforded us the space and time to plan and recapture our days. The photos listed did not do it justice. Phenomenal views from the linai. The place was very comfortable and quiet. We were within a 15 minute walk to the spectacular black sand beach nearby with green sea turtles. Relaxing beyond measure.
Able to read a lot but if you are planning to watch tv, the one there is very small and hard to work, but for us it was fine not watching tv. Our trip was for relaxation and solitude and this place was great! The kitchen was not stoked with dishes as much as other VRBO places but adequate.
If we ever come back to the island again this is where we would try to stay again but for a longer time. Amazing location.

Being back in Canada for a week now.. I have to say when I shut my eyes I imagine Jeff’s condo! Waking up with that beautiful view and having early swims with the turtles on the black sand beach is still a dream.
Family friendly yet secluded… pool was warm… hot tub was great, we met other couples from both around the world and locals…
The condo’s location and how it faces the garden and ocean feels like you are secluded and the only person there. The view is uninterrupted!!

After 4 days in Kailua-Kona, arriving in Punalu'u felt like a different world. The unit is beautiful, we loved the high ceilings and the views from the lanai were incredible. Not just during the day watching the palm trees sway and the waves crash, but at night there were more stars than I've ever seen anywhere.
While the location is secluded, it's an easy walk to Punalu'u Beach for the black sand. We saw turtles every time we went down there. It's also less than an hour drive to South Point, Papakolea (Green Sand) Beach, and Volcano and the National Park. We loved exploring this part of the island and next time we come back I would want to stay in this area even longer. The restaurants in Volcano Village and the Park were better than anything we found in Kailua as well.

I reserved this condo well ahead of time and I'm glad I did. It was very peaceful and quiet with a great view. There were nene out in the golf course and other birds singing in the morning. Everything was very comfortable and clean. We like to cook for ourselves but didn't plan ahead for this location. Be sure to buy groceries before you get here because its not near any stores or restaurants. Its a great place to stay on the south end and chill. We went up to Kilauea several days, and were glad we stayed here instead of in Volcano where it was cooler and rainier. The drive to Kilauea was easy and it was only 30-40 minutes. It was no big deal to drive the road in the dark after viewing the lava at night. Black sand beach nearby was a great place to chill and read in the shade of the palm trees. I may not be back on the big island for a while but I'd definitely reccomend this location for those who like solitude. The morning sun rising over the ocean was so nice. Thank you!

If you want to be where it is crowded and touristy like in Kona, do not come here. If you want peace and quiet in a heavenly place, look no further.
This place had sort of a 70's or 80's vibe but is maintained like it was built yesterday. The gardens are manicured by master gardeners. And our particular unit had a view of the ocean that was unparalleled.
You are a 12 minute walk from a beautiful black sand beach where green sea turtles regularly sun themselves. There are two incredible (but demanding) hikes up and down the coast which lead to ancient Polynesian sites. We did both and liked the challenge. Bring plenty of water!
South point is 25 minutes away and there is a green sand beach accessible by foot or off-road vehicle. (Be sure to locate the nearer parking at KAULANA Boat RAMP.
Kīlauea is 25 minutes away in the opposite direction at the Volcanoes National Park. Be sure to eat at ʻŌhelo Café near the park. Excellent dining experience!
If you want to snorkel up at the Captain Cook monument, then you will drive for over an hour. We did it and it was fine. Kona and it's local restaurants will be a longer drive but we did that too.
Mainly this place is about peace and quiet with mostly an older crowd. The pool and hot tub are fabulous. Tub is 105 degrees -- hot! It's just peaceful. Loved it!

Jeff’s home was the perfect base for us to explore the South Side. Close to Volcanoes National Park and easy drive to Hilo. We stocked up on groceries before arriving which was great as things close early here. The home is comfortable and welcoming. Stunning sunrises from the lanai and an easy walk to Punalu’u Black Sand Beach. The Kilauea eruption viewing after sunset is an amazing experience. Highly recommend staying here!!

This is a beautiful little condo with a perfect lanai and a private feel. Easy access to a gorgeous black sand beach, where we saw giant sea turtles. Close to Volcanos National Park. Would most definitely stay here again.

We arrived at the rental after dark and couldn't wait for day light to see it. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and maintained, and each little condo is built to so the occupants feel like the only people on the grounds. From our patio we only saw the grounds keepers. So private! The black sand beach was a quick drive or a nice walk from the condo, and on our second visit there were quite a few sea turtles sunning on the beach and several more swimming in the shallows. Though the condo is quite a drive from the airport, it was a good location from which to launch for several of the places we wanted to tour. The condo itself had everything we needed and made our stay as comfortable as if we were at home. The fans provided by the owners, and the daily breezes kept the place comfortable. The shower is huge and so pretty and the towels were plush and pretty. We thank you for a wonderful stay and highly recommend renting this condo to anyone looking to spend time on the south of the big island.

The condo was exactly as described. It was so quiet and peaceful and the location made it feel like we were secluded. We saw sea turtles every time we walked to the black sand beach. The location was perfect for going to see the volcano before sunrise.

Jeff’s property is located in a great spot. Black Sand Beach, Hawaii Volcanoes NP, South point. Great launching spot for exploring that side of the island. Sunrises we’re amazing from the lanai. Jeff made check in and staying with him a breeze.

We can’t overstate what a great unit this was! The views, the private yard space and the unit space/layout were all A +++. Although we left the unit daily to hike and explore, it was difficult to leave such a relaxing and beautiful spot, with an incredible view. Nobody ever walked by our unit (in a complex of many units) during our 5 day stay. We actually felt isolated due to the way the unit is located. If you’re a morning person, treat yourself to an amazing sunrise. The evening sky is also amazing. The host was extremely friendly and helpful also. We are so happy we stayed at Colony 1 but in particular at Hale Kekai unit. Huge thanks to Jeff.

We really enjoyed out stay here. The view of the sunrise from the condo was lovely. It is only a short drive to the black sand beach. The pool and hot tub were really nice.

The property was just what we expected, clean quite area on the southeast side of the island. The condo was all set when we arrived late from Seattle, long day for sure. Jeff Silva our host gave us check in instructions before we arrived and we got in and got a good nights rest on the comfortable king bed. Took it easy the next day and then started exploring this side of the island. Make sure you do shop on the Kona side before heading to the condo. Having a beautiful view while eating breakfast was so pleasant. We had an issue with our shower head and Jeff came down from Hilo that evening and repaired it for us. Much thanks 😊 We loved going to the black sand beach daily to see the Honu turtles. We will be back again someday.😎🏝

First Sea Mountain is a beautiful development with spectacular ocean views and walking distance to Pahala Black Sand beach. #23 is a wonder unit with one of the best ocean views in the complex. Well stocked extremely cozy and private and has a short walk to the pool. Our Host Jeff was wonderful, emailed us the day before to let us know that there had been heavy rain and to be cautious driving. He was always quick to respond to our questions. If you’re looking for a peaceful and relaxing vacation this is the spot for you.

Can’t say enough. The location is a few minutes walk to a black sand beach where we saw turtles basking in the sun and feeding by the shore. The stars at night are just magnificent t. And the drive to see the active volcano is relatively short.
The property itself is super comfortable and private. Sea breezes all day and night. The nearby town Naalehu is great with lots of charm. Good Ka’u coffee cafes, malasadas, tacos and pizzas. The drive to Ka’u Coffee was worthwhile.
Jeff is/was really responsive. There are wonderful materials on the island with lots of history and things to do and see.
