Wake up to gentle trade winds, birds singing and 100% Kona coffee grown on our farm. Stay in your own secluded Tree Top apartment. Lounge on your lanai or swim in the ocean with dolphins and sea turtles.

We are located just 15 miles south of sunny Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, only minutes from one of the world's best snorkel and shore dive sites, Pu'uhonua o Honaunau, the Place of Refuge. Our farm is a great base from which to explore the Kona Coast as well as Volcanoes National Park. To view our availability calendar as well as to find more information on our rental, scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on the link under 'Links to more information'.

We grow 100% Kona coffee on our farm. We have several orchards organized in rows on the hill side as well as several plantings in the shade of tall macadamia nut trees. Our farm is lined with nearly 200 macadamia nut trees that provide us with a bountiful harvest. In addition to the coffee and nuts, we have many varieties of fruit trees.

We have Golden Globe mangos, Hayden mangos, papayas, pineapples, guava, passionfruit, lychee, cherimoya, soursop, lime, sour orange, pomegranate, avocado, bananas, figs, coconuts, monstera, rose apples, custard apples and noni. We also grow cocoa and kukui nut. Our farm features unique lava rock out croppings as well as beautiful varieties of palm trees and flowers.

Every guest is treated to a tour of the farm. We will show you how we process the coffee and care for the trees. When you arrive, you will have a bouquet of freshly picked flowers as well as an assortment of in season fruits from our farm.

The Tree Top Apartment is a private second floor apartment with ocean and mountain views. The apartment is completely separate and private from the owner's home. The cathedral ceilings, sky light, stained glass window and sliding glass door to the lanai invite in the sun and outdoors to the apartment. At approximately 750 square feet, the apartment accommodates four people. Our farm is at a comfortable 1000 foot elevation so air conditioning is not needed. We are blessed with warm sunny days and evenings perfect for sleeping.

We really enjoyed staying at Killino Farms. We got in a bit later than intended on the first night and Todd was great about responding to our communication and getting us settled. The driveway can be a bit difficult to find and it is long and bumpy. Be sure to read Todd's instructions on getting there. They were very helpful for navigation and warning us about watching for water pipes and dogs in the driveway. Our first morning there, Todd gave us a great tour! Part of the tour was explaining how a coffee farm works. He also showed us which trees we could harvest for in season fruits and nuts from. For our December trip, we had the best little oranges and macadamia nuts for breakfast! To top it all off, he shared some of his farm grown and roasted coffee! This little apartment is a tad rustic but homey and had everything we needed. We didn't use the kitchen but it was spacious and fully stocked. We loved being off the beaten path and away from the typical tourist hustle and bustle. We were serenaded by frogs at night and birds in the day. There were some restaurants and shops nearby to meet all of our needs. Plus, it is super close to some of the best snorkeling beaches on the island. In summary, we highly recommend this VRBO!

Far from the other tourists but close to a great snorkelling beach. Car needed. Our host shared many interesting observations on the local flora and fauna. Great stay!

Such a unique and beautiful place. The farm is amazing and Todd is a wonderful, and thoughtful host! So enjoyed the peace and quiet that is even rare in this part of the island these days! Will be staying again!

The property was more rustic and a little worn down then we expected. Host was nice and left us to our days. Driveway could be a problem if you are being very careful with your rental car. We enjoyed our time in Kona and the peace of this site. Even with the host being nice I would not stay here again..

I’m a bird/ nature photographer. Nowhere else on the island have I seen the variety of birds in one place that we saw every morning from the deck. Todd was a great host and we can’t say enough about Daisy. If you like a rural setting away from the hustle of Kona you can’t beat the farm!

Todd is an awesome host. The property is far back from the road and incredibly quiet and peaceful. I enjoyed listening to the rain fall and watching the sunset. I would have loved to stay here longer.

Amazing property away from everything that is touristy. Country living on a working farm with fresh fruit, chickens, flowers, quietness, relaxation. Nature abounds. Clean. Convenient to Volcanos NP and the Kona airport. Full kitchen, bbq, fridge, microwave, coffee maker. Todd was friendly and helpful and returns your calls and texts. Beaches are within driving distance. Near grocery store and great coffee shops. Away from the tourists and loved it!

We had a wonderful stay! The property is beautiful. They apartment was a great size for our family of 4. The kids loved having their own space. The lanai was great for breakfast and coffee in the morning. Close to the place of refuge and two step for great snorkeling. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends and family.

The apartment was close to good ocean access in a beautiful lush part of the leeward side had everything we needed. Todd was very friendly and helpful, and the property is clearly a working farm and not a resort, which is exactly what we wanted. Delicious fruit and coffee and a lovely view west. Fantastic

The location: This was the perfect location for us because it was close to amazing snorkeling spots, close to Napoopoo Rd (lots of fruit stands), and far enough away from the touristy parts of Kailua-Kona that we didn't feel stuck in the hustle and bustle. Driveway is a little rough and bumpy, but take it slow and it's totally doable without 4wd. The farm is a short walk from Menehune Cafe which was our favorite spot to grab iced coffee and yummy lilikoi muffins! I recommend the onion rings, best I've ever had! The property itself: Very clean, comfortable, with a few extra beach accessories that made for a great stay. It was very easy to settle in and feel right at home. The kitchen was dated, but was clean, functional, very well stocked, and met our needs. Todd was an attentive and friendly host, quick to respond to requests and answer any questions we had. We really enjoyed our tour around the property and trying the miracle berries! His dog, Daisy, is a sweetheart and was our favorite part of coming home every evening. The beds were comfortable (all of them have foam toppers), linens felt very clean/new, at least one fan in each space (never got stuffy or too hot), ample towels, the water got scalding hot, and we fell asleep every night to the sounds of birds, coquí frogs, and gecko chirps. There were a few geckos in the apartment, but they stay to themselves and never really bothered us. The screen door was off its tracks and was a bit of a struggle to open and close, that was the only thing that needed fixing. The apartment felt very private, even with downstairs short-term tenants. They were very quiet and we only saw them once or twice. We would have stayed much longer if we could have. This will definitely be the first place we check when we are ready to come back to Kona. :) Thank you Todd, for hosting us!

Todd was the most accommodating person from communications to a full farm tour upon arrival. He was great with our young kids. We had everything we needed for our VRBO stay. The driveway was rough, but driveable like other reviews state. The property was not fully as expected. We believe with some additional maintenace and apt. cleaning it would be more pleasant. Beds, Linens and towels were great. Thanks for a good short trip to the Captain Cook area!

This is a working coffee farm. All different fruit trees, macadamia trees, coconut trees, avacado, etc. It's not manicured to be anything other than what it is. As for the rental unit, it fit us very well. Loved sitting on the lania every evening enjoying the sunset and listening to the coquis. The place was comfortable and had what we needed to prepare meals. The driveway down to the place was adventurous. Would definitely recommend an SUV type vehicle. Something with some ground clearance. Nice quite out the way place that fit our needs well.

Killino Farms is located about 30 to 40 minutes south of Kona in a rural part of the island. If you love watching beautiful sunsets from your deck, enjoying coffee early in the morning with Daisey the dog, walking among the mango, papaya, coconut and coffee trees this apartment is for you. Todd Killino is a world of information. The apartment is clean and the bed is very comfortable. No hot tub or pool but beautiful beaches just a short drive away. Did I mention reasonably priced.

We really appreciated the opportunity to stay on a family coffee farm this summer in South Kona. Our family enjoys getting out of busy cities and away from trappings of crowded resorts. Killino farms gave us that and more, and the location is fantastic if you’re interested in the best snorkeling spots on the island: Kealakekua Bay and Honaunau Bay. These are popular places, but you can beat most of the tourists since you are so close. Todd was a gracious host and even though he was busy, he took the time to show us his farm and answer our questions. We enjoyed his delicious coffee every morning of our stay, as well as a variety of fruit found on the property. The kitchen is well-stocked with basics and all necessary appliances, and the beds were quite comfortable. My husband loved the outdoor shower! (There is an indoor one as well) ;-) Useful feedback if you’re considering staying here: (1) this is not a resort, so don’t expect it to be. Come for the experience and relish being in a tropical paradise, drinking unsurpassed Kona coffee and eating delicious tropical fruits. (2) The coqui frogs are shockingly loud and startling the first night, but we got used to them. I have missed them since returning home. (3) Get a SUV or 4WD for the island generally, but for the driveway to the farm specifically. I will not miss this driveway. (4) If geckos showing up unexpectedly in your living space bothers you, you might not want to come to the island at all. We named our little visitors and enjoyed their presence. We will stay at the farm again if we return to Kona. Thanks so much for a memorable vacation!

Our stay was wonderful. The host supplied fresh fruit grown on the property throughout our stay. The mountain breeze at night made the perfect temperature for sleeping. The kitchen was very well equipped for the times we wanted to cook. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return! Aloha!

Simple, rustic lovely place to unwind, relax, pray, and chill. Fresh lychee and avocados lovingly provided. Sunset shows from lanai were special. Croqui frogs kinda loud at night. Wonderful place but not a resort, thank god.

We feel lucky we got to stay at this farm! Todd was a great host, super communication from when we first made the booking all the way through our stay. The apartment had everything we needed; it was comfortable and a great place to relax after days of snorkeling or other island adventures. And the coffee (and fruit) was so good! We will definitely come back!!

We stayed for a week on Killino Farms and it could not have been a nicer experience. Todd and Kim are the nicest hosts. We had Kona coffee from their farm along with Hawaiian fruits from their farm and a beautiful bouquet of flowers awaiting our arrival. Todd provided excellent clear directions on to get to the property and was waiting in the driveway to direct us in and show us our bit of paradise for the week. It is a bit off the road and the driveway isn't a suburban driveway by any means - but that is the charm - you are not staying on the road - rather you will see the most beautiful sunsets over the ocean and be surrounded by paradise and birds chirping each morning. We had NO problem with driveway despite what other review stated. Todd also provided LOTS of information/advice on where to go/what to see and where to stay in Volcano. The property is very clean and well stocked, bed is quite comfortable. The best part of staying there was the lanai and daily visits from their dog Louie for belly rubs. We are dog lovers so we completely encouraged Louie to come and get belly rubs and he wasn't intrusive at all - but I am sure if you don't want him there (ie, don't give him any belly rubs) he will soon be on his way and not bother you. I am a frequent VRBO renter and love living like a local, having more space than a hotel room and being able to cook and do my own laundry. So this place was excellent to prepare coffee/breakfast and have it on our private lanai, we prepared some dinners and sat again on the lanai and watched the sunset in the evening. We had television so we could keep up with the news (which we decided not to after a few days!), and do our laundry so I didn't have to pack a ridiculous amount for a two week trip. Todd and Kim had a cooler, beach towels, beach chairs, snorkel equipment and pretty much anything you could want/need for your stay on the Big Island. This was a very economical choice as well. Gave us much more space, privacy and flexibility than a hotel stay and was A LOT cheaper. The location was great. It was a very short drive to 2 step for excellent snorkeling. We drove to many of the beaches further north in Kona. There were lots of places to eat nearby - loved Annie's Burgers - which is just up the road. We cannot wait to return to Killino Farms - hopefully for an even longer stay!

Enjoyed our time here! Relaxed, private, quiet. Road is fine just drive slowly and follow clear detailed instructions, easiest to arrive in daylight. Driveway just off main road but enough to be very quiet. An engaging slice of real Big Island coffee farm life, very green (but season/rainfall dependent?). Todd and family are friendly and responsive, i.e. as needed but not obstrusive, offering an informal and interesting tour of the farm. Friendly dog popped upstairs every morning briefly (nice, but not bothersome at all-if you don't care for dogs). Apt was stocked with their own coffee which was great - enjoyed so much we bought more to take home! Simply furnished but perfectly comfortable, fans, tv, full size fridge and equipped kitchen! Grill available and great lanai to relax, dry swim clothes etc. 2nd bedroom door is on lanai but location very private, quiet and safe. Great homebase location for access to Pu'uhonua O Honaunau and nearby snorkeling, and Kealakekua Bay (kayak, snorkel, etc) both must dos! Nearby groceries and restaurants short drive away. For us, much better than generic hotels or condos with neighbours, parking and road noise.

We were met by Todd who was very nice and accommodating! Our issue was his driveway, which he described as not the best. I had rented a midsize car, Hyundai Elantra which hit bottom on several times while driving down the driveway. I wish he would of indicted we would need a higher clearance vehicle. I'm used to driving in rough terrain, but could not afford to damage a vehicle, especially a rented one. We decided to find a different place to stay since we could not go in and out safely. The area is not lit at night. This would be ok to stay if you had a jeep. There was no lock on the front door, however, I think it would be hard for someone to find this place. Todd was nice but it was a terrible experience for us as we wanted a place to go in and out of, and were not able to do that here. Todd said the rental places did not check the bottoms of the cars. We were given no refund. I believe the situation could of been avoided if Todd would of said the vehicle would need a specific clearance! Besides losing the cost of the VRBO, I could of been paying damages for rental car, and miss even seeing this wonderful island! I just found out that we were refunded some of our money, which I felt was very appropriate. We bid stay 1 night and were given a nice tour of the farm!

The "tree house" apartment was an enjoyable place to base our Kona area adventures, away from the noise and crowds of the Kailua area. We enjoyed the spacious lanai, sounds of cocqui frogs at night and roosters in the morning. The kitchen was well-stocked, the bathroom and bedroom had all that we needed. The tour of the farm was cool and we enjoyed the fresh papaya and samples of Todd's own coffee beans. The interior was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the privacy of the upper apartment, although I did not realize that the lower half of the building was also a guest rental - the folks staying there were up slamming doors at dawn and in general we would have liked not to have other guests so close. The driveway is 1/4 mile long and very bumpy, not good to drive without 4WD. The neighbors dogs did bark very loudly if they heard a disturbance even at night which interrupted our rest on a couple of occasions. There is TV and WiFi, some DVDs, and books for evening entertainment. For those who want to be out in the country and closer to Kealekekua Bay and Place of Refuge but further from Kailua town, this a good spot. Just 3-4 miles from the Coffee Shack for a nice breakfast and stellar view.

House Is clean and comfortable. I appreciate the stainless steel pots and pans. The fruits were perhaps not abundant when we came, but there were two ok papayas in the kitchen on arrival. The host is friendly and gave an enjoyable tour of their property. The dogs are nice and mellow. The driveway was manageable once we figured out how to navigate the rough spots, before that we scraped the bottom of our vehicle a couple times, even going slowly.

Todd greated and welcomed us. He made sure everything was ok. A bowl of fruit was waiting for us and most condiments available in a very well provided kitchen. Easy to find using the directions. You have the unit to yourself. The main house is a way away. This is not a 5 star establishment, but it is clean and comfortable. The road down to the farm and the farm itself is best described as rustic as are most of these small old Kona coffee holdings in the area seem to be. It probally wont be long before the large corps start cobbling them up.

My family (2 middle aged parents & college aged daughter) stayed in the treetop apartment for a week and it was amazing. Comfortable beds, beautiful surroundings, fully stocked kitchen and use of a grill steps away, as well as all the other amenities noted elsewhere. Todd was very helpful, kind, and gave us a real sense of what it means to live on the big island. We definitely would stay here again!

We stayed for 2 weeks in the treetop apartment. It was very peaceful, including the sounds of the roosters crowing and dogs barking at night. It is a great location as a base for exploring the island. The apartment had everything needed for preparing meals, barbequing, doing laundry, etc. We arrived late at night. Todd met us just off the highway and we followed him in our rental car down the very bumpy road into the property. The next morning, when leaving for the day, we found it confusing to find the driveway out of the property. We would recommend prewarning arrivals of the bumpy road conditions as well as more signage or some reflectors on the driveway. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay and if you are adventurous and want to experience true Hawaii life, it is the place to stay!

A friend and I rented the upstairs apartment to serve as home base for exploring beautiful Hawaii both below and above water. We knew it'd be farther from the dive shops in town but also a bit closer to the national park, and wow, was the beauty of the location well worth the drive. Our hosts were wonderfully accommodating of our late arrival flights and had fresh fruit and macadamia nuts in the kitchen to welcome us. Their adorable dogs would come up the stairs to say hello in the mornings. Though we were away much of the day, we loved coming back to a comfortable abode to cook dinner, watch the sunset, and reflect on the day's adventures to the songs of frogs and birds, plus the cute geckos on the lanai. The rental had everything we needed, from wi-fi and kitchen appliances to beach towels, drying racks, a cooler, and even a jacket I found in the closet that saved me from a cold boat ride one night. I will be recommending it to my friends and would definitely visit again.
