You'll be rejuvenated and ready for more adventures.

Lazy Lehua Cottage was lovingly built in 2004. The idea for Lazy Lehua Cottage was to make it a special place for guests to stay and relax. Focus was on putting as much character, charm and soul in to it and making it a whimsical, beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. Trees were hand cut and property cleared only enough to put Lazy Lehua Cottage in its perfect place. The beautiful Ohia trees that unfortunately had to be cut down were used for the posts on the lanais giving it, its whimsical cottage look that blends in well with the rain forest. In keeping in the spirit of whimsical, some of the furniture throughout the cottage was hand crafted; coffee table, bar top and headboard on bed all using local, exotic and native woods. Our property is unique as we use our home often and we visit frequently so it is kept in immaculate condition! We know you'll feel the magical spirit of the house when you stay here.

We have always been recognized for our cleanliness. Because your safety and comfortability are our top PRIORITIES, we have enhanced our cleaning and sanitizing procedures even more. We are following the guidelines set forth by the CDC and AHLA (American Hotel and Lodging Association) for cleaning and disinfecting to ensure a Safe Stay. We will continue to do what it takes to make sure that you remain confident with your choice to enjoy a relaxing and safe stay at Lazy Lehua Cottage.

Everything about our stay was spot on! Well stocked, convenient location to Volcano National Park and super quite! It was one of the few places we have been on Vacation where I could have just lounged around in the rain forest. Communication with the owner was great and easy. We hope to be back some day!!! A+ VRBO experience!!!

Loved how the amazing property nestled into its surroundings! Everything was top notch and our only request for improvements would be washer and drier. But believe me the positives WAY outweighed that slight inconvenience!!! Would stay here again ANYTIME in the volcano region!

The cottage was just as lovely as in the pictures. It was super clean, and the upstairs and downstairs created some privacy. The space is thoughtfully laid out, and the location is excellent. It's a beautiful spot, and also very close to the national park.

The Lazy Lehua cottage was absolutely beautiful. It was very well stocked, extremely clean and a joy to spend a couple of days in. The cottage was nestled in the rainforest, surrounded by lush vegetation, which was home to a chorus of birds to sing you to sleep each night. It was probably the nicest place I have stayed in my travels over the years...a wonderful combination of rustic with beauty and comfort. We went for a walk a couple of times and found the neighbours very friendly. It was very well situated on the doorstep of Volcanoes National Park. Thank you Stacey!!

We spent 3 days in this lovely place to explore the Volcanoes, and truly had the experience of a lifetime! On the morning of the second day (June 7), our host Stacey messaged that Kīlauea had begun erupting earlier in the morning. We left immediately and were at the overview around 6 am. What a sight! Only few people were around then and we got to chat with some locals who shared their knowledge of the volcano (and where to go to see it a night --which was truly amazing). The cottage is absolutely lovely, secluded and private yet minutes from the National Park. The kitchen has all the essentials and it is so nice that there were supplies of different spices, coffee filters etc. Because of the proximity to the park, we were able to hike the Kïlauea Iki Trail early in the morning, and were largely alone on the trail, another unique experience! Would stay again here anytime.

This was our first vacation to Hawai’i so we had premonitions but weren’t exactly sure what to expect. We arrived in the dark and although the directions were correct we somehow got a bit turned around. It was just so dark and secluded that we missed the our turn. The neighborhood was nothing like we’ve ever seen. It is so dark at night that it was hard to tell if it was at the right place when we arrived. It is so secluded and *quiet( human neighbors) that you would not even know there are people within miles. As for the non-human neighbors (birds) I was really surprised at how noisy they were in the evening and ALL night long. I was super glad that I had ear plugs. My wife didn’t but she didn’t have a problem sleeping through the sounds. The bird calls, although really loud, we’re pleasant. It was fun the hear the different sounds of the day-time birds in the morning and in the day. As for the cottage. It was clean, well kept and maintained had everything we could have hoped for. The photos understate how nice the place is. Every thing was as good or better than expected. Great communication with the owner but didn’t need to contact her for anything. We both wish we had more time here and would stay here again in a heartbeat! Mahalo Lazy Lehua!

Thank you for a fantastic stay. Spent 3 days here and it was just delightful. The property is very lash and tropical the cottage is very clean and well-appointed. A beautiful view out of every window and proximity to hiking and restaurants was wonderful. Very easy drive in the Kona. Viewing the stars at night was pretty spectacular.

We loved our stay here. It had everything we could possibly need, including big umbrellas to keep us dry in all the rain we got while we were there. The little gas fireplaces kept us cozy when it was chilly. We loved how you can see the stars at night through the high bedroom windows. The location is perfect for spending time at Volcanoes NP. Only a 10 minute drive to see the latest changes in Kilauea. The hammock on the lanai was so relaxing. So many birds singing in the trees. We'd love to come back again some day!

We loved staying at this charming cottage near Hawaii Volcano National Park-8 min drive. It is well supplied with bath items, lotion, shampoo etc…and a starter supply of snacks, spices, and a few condiments in the well stocked kitchen. We used the gas fireplaces several times to take the morning chill off. There’s just something relaxing about the sound of rain while swinging on the lanai!

What a beautiful property! The cottage had everything we wanted or needed. The communication regarding check-in and check-out and information we needed for our stay was very organized. We really enjoyed the lanais and privacy of the home, as well as the fireplaces that got used often in the cool, wet weather. The cottage was a perfect base for exploring the national park. We had a wonderful time, and it was hard to leave! We would definitely recommend and would come back in a heartbeat!

Everything turned out as good as the reviews we read. Just a few minutes drive into the national park and tons of walking trails. Make sure you get up real early or stay very late at night and check out the lava glow. As far as the house, nothing was Wanting or missing. As far as the cottage.. Just a gorgeous building, well furnished. The sounds at night (birds, crickets, rain on the metal roof)will lull you fast to sleep. Will definitely be back!

Staying here was like staying at a good friend's fantastic cottage in a rain forest. We had everything we needed. It was secluded and very quiet. We mainly heard the birds in the day and the frogs at night. But very close to the few restaurants in Volcano Village. And close to Volcano National Park. We could go from hiking a lava filled crater to our rain forest cottage. We certainly hope to go back some day.

We adore HVNP & have vacationed in Volcano village 8 years now, staying in VRBO rentals every time. All were fine, but after discovering Lazy Lehua Cottage in 2017, we can't imagine staying anywhere else. We KNOW each week-plus visit will be as fantastic as the previous ones. The love for this home shown by the owner & the local support team is obvious. LLC is maintained meticulously, inside & out, and upgrades appear regularly. We can't wait to return in 2023. :-)

Loved this rainforest cottage! It was the most homey vrbo I have stayed in. They provide everything to make your stay enjoyable and the kitchen has everything you need. We loved sitting on the front porch enjoying the rainforest. Location is so close to the national park about a 10 minute drive. Would definitely stay here again if we return!

Property was accurately described and very pleasant to stay at. It was very clean, well cared for and beautifully decorated. We didn’t utilize the comforts of cooking our own meals but had we wanted to, we could have… the kitchen was well stocked! Location was great too! If you’re thinking this might be the place to stay, it is! You won’t regret it.

February 2022
Great location - very private at the end of the subdivision. We had no problem finding it. Loved the trees and plants everywhere - it literally is in a rain forest! The house was comfortable with everything you need. We didn't cook but the kitchen looked well stocked. The bunk bed downstairs was perfect for our grandson. The bed upstairs was very cozy - the quilts and covers were perfect as it was a bit chilly! The bathroom downstairs has a shower. Upstairs it's a jetted tub - looked nice but we didn't use it. The house is conveniently located close to restaurants and the Volcano National Park, also not too long of a drive to Hilo. It was always nice to return to this wonderful oasis among the trees! Also - Stacey was very patient with us as my grandson left his phone in the house after we checked out and locked up. She helped us to get back in the house to retrieve it - thank you!

The Lazy Lehua Cottage was a perfect place to stay for exploring Volcanoes National Park. It’s less than 10 minutes to the park entrance and close to the town of Volcanoes. The house is very well equipped and has everything you need for your stay. The lenais were so peaceful to sit in and hear / see nature all around you. We can’t wait to come back!

January 2022
We loved this property. It is a charming cottage in the rainforest with prime location 1 mile from Volcanoes National Park. First the house: Lovely cottage with bunk beds on the main floor along with a well equipped kitchen, and large and very comfortable master bedroom upstairs. Bathrooms on both floors. Electric fireplaces on both floors for heating (and rustic ambience). Charming and whimsical wood constructing the railing on the patio and the master bed headboard. 3 lanais (patios/porches), 2 of them with hammocks. Dining table on front lanai, where we are all our meals surrounded by the lush foliage and serenaded by birds, frogs, and crickets. Many thoughtful touches go above and beyond. The setting: deep in a lush forest, surrounded by bamboo and ferns and dozens of beautiful trees we’ve never seen before. The location: 1 mile from Volcanoes National Park. Extremely convenient for multiple small trips to the park. Kīlauea (the active volcano) was starting and stopping in recent weeks, and so it was incredibly convenient to be so close to the park that we could rapidly mobilize early in the morning before dawn if there was activity On the USGS webcam. (That’s exactly what happened and we were rewarded with a once in a lifetime experience of seeing an erupting volcano against a black, starry sky.) Aside from Volcanoes NP, the location is conveniently situated between the black sands beach (must visit) and Hilo. Our family was very happy here and the kids said many times they wanted to live at Lazy Lehua Cottage forever!

December 2021
We stayed 2 nights in this cute and welcoming cottage. It was a great spot for exploring Volcanoes National Park and we loved the rainforest experience for part of our week stay on the Big Island. This place was totally unique and so fun to stay at. The only comment I have is about the twin bunks...If you have very tall kids, they may not fit. The bottom bunk is longer than a normal twin so my 16 year old son (who is 6'5") was thankfully able to fit, but the top bunk space feels shorter than a regular twin due to the sloped roof line. My 14 year old daughter is 5'5" and only fit diagonally. She likes to sleep curled up so it worked out mostly. That being said, I think everyone would be happy to stay here again!

Stacey's cottage was clean, well stocked, and we loved the secluded setting in the rainforest. It's the perfect base from which to explore Volcanoes National Park, and is only about 40 mins to Hilo. Would surely stay again!

November 2021
We had a great experience staying at this property. It is gorgeous, well maintained, secluded, and the perfect spot to get away and just relax. The proximity to Volcano National Park allowed us to see the glow of Kilauea erupting with nobody else around. We took full advantage of the well stocked kitchen and the jacuzzi bathtub. We ate breakfast and dinner on the front deck while we listened to the gentle sounds of the jungle and were refreshed by the cool, fresh air. This is exactly what we imagined when we think fairy tale jungle cabin. Highly recommend.

October 2021
We stayed here for 4 nights to go to the park anytime we wanted and it was great. Less than 10 minutes from the park entrance. The house itself is amazing and we spent mornings drinking coffee and reading on the lanais. The jacuzzi tub was a nice way to wind down at the end of the day.

July 2021
You really can't find a better place to stay than this. The cottage is almost perfect. Every little extra touch was noticed and made it that much better. The kitchen was stocked and almost anything you needed was available. You will only be about 5 minutes from the park and closer to a few restaurants and two markets. You will feel entirely secluded at the edge of this neighborhood south of Volcano. When we come back to this area we will surely stay here again. It would be perfect for two people or a couple/someone with one ore two kids. The bunk beds on the main level are adorable.

July 2021
LLC is a charming house nestled in the rainforest just a couple of miles from Volcano National Park. The master suite on the second floor is spectacular! My kids and I loved all the special touches, the jet tub and the porch swings. There is not a huge selection of nearby restaurants serving dinner on some weeknights - so plan ahead. The Lava Rock Cafe (not open Monday) was a huge hit with my kids.

July 2021
It was a very unique setup. The property is so secluded yet in a neighborhood. It was Serene and felt like living in the woods. Loved the place. Would definitely rent it again. Must saty here to checkout volcano national park and all things at the southern tip of big island and also Hilo.

Wow. This was a real highlight of our 2 1/2 week trip to the islands. My 10 year old wanted to know if we could stay at the cottage for the rest of our vacation, and my 15 year old said he could definitely imagine living there permanently. The location near the park was outstanding, it felt very private and quiet (except for the wildlife, which croaked all night -- ha!), it was incredibly charming, and relaxing with the jacuzzi, hammocks, balconies. It was very well stocked in the kitchen, and incredibly clean. We are just in love with this cottage. It's the perfect spot for a family with two kids. Can't rave enough!

We loved, loved , loved our stay in this magical story book cottage. Every single detail is lovely----if you like the cottages in Carmel, California you'll feel right at home. It's really much better than the photos, This was the best VRBO we have ever had.

June 2021
This was a well appointed, excellent place to stay near volcano national park. Stacy thought of everything. We did the hike to green sand beach but started late and there were even flashlights available that put our minds at ease. The bed/bedding may have been the most comfortable setup I've slept in. And the recommendation for the volcano farmers market was AMAZING. we got stuff for breakfast from a booth selling delicious Ukrainian food and picked up breakfast stuff for the next day so we could cook. Was so delicious. We were blown away with the big island and our jungle accommodations added to the experience. Would absolutely stay again.

Very unique and beautiful place to stay! Also incredibly relaxing and peaceful.

We loved this cottage so much. It’s magical. Usually the photos are better than the property itself, but in this case, the property exceeded the photos. It had every amenity imaginable, was wonderfully decorated, And the linens and towels were high quality. We were so comfortable and didn’t want to leave.

Stacey's cottage is absolutely fabulous. Large, beautiful, impeccably clean comfortable and private. Two floors, two bathrooms, a jacuzzi tub, a beautiful lanai plus 2 more decks in back and upstairs. So many wonderful details in the decor and the many amenities provided. The weather was pretty rainy most of the time, but you could be perfectly happy just relaxing in this amazing little rainforest retreat.

The dwelling was as described with added touches only a thoughtful homeowner would provide. Stacey was responsive when we had a question. We found the volcano fascinating and were happy to spend several days days alternately exploring it and relaxing at the cottage.

If you ever come across my airbnb profile, you'll see that I've stayed in 50+ vacation rentals over the past 5 years both in the US and abroad. The Lazy Lehua Cottage was, by far, my favorite vacation rental of ALL TIME. When we arrived, we were caught in a rain storm. It was really dark but Stacey's directions were so clear, finding the cottage was a breeze! The pitter patter of the rain hitting the roof made the experience all the more cozy and enjoyable. Stacey's cottage is beautifully appointed with a full kitchen, great coffee, a shower downstairs with bunkbeds and sitting area, and the most wonderful loft bedroom upstairs with a jacuzzi spa tub. The decorations throughout are wonderful, and I appreciated the various forms of entertainment (books, DVDs, etc.) that were available to choose from. Two gas fireplace heaters kept us warm and cozy all night long. The bed in the upstairs loft is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on (and we have a top-of-the-line tempurpedic back at home). We have never had such a refreshing night of sleep. The numerous decks and outdoor sitting/eating areas, the koa slab counters and table, the cute hammock chairs, the sounds of nature and the feeling of being in the jungle, the natural wood used to construct the balconies/shelving......there are too many great things to list! Stacey definitely had a strong vision she executed on beautifully - there isn't a single detail she overlooked! The location from the cottage to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was the icing on the cake. Since the park is open all night, staying so close to the park is the only way you can easily check out that view of the crater near Jaggar after dark! I was disappointed with another rental on our 8-day trip to the island and I tried to re-book the Lazy Lehua Cottage but it was unavailable! :( I CANNOT WAIT to stay here again and will tell all of my friends about this little gem! It is my dream to have a cottage like this someday so Stacey, if you ever plan to sell this beauty, PLEASE let me know!!!!!!

We loved Lazy Lehua! The cottage had everything we needed and felt like we were home! The cottage is well taken care of and beautifully decorated. The master suite is roomy and comfortable and very bright during the day. Loved all the windows.....you could lay in bed at night and see the stars through every window. Wish we had more time to spend there. The location is within a few miles of Volcano National Park. We would definitely recommend Lazy Lehua and would love to stay here again during our next visit!

September 2017
We stayed in 4 different VRBO homes during our Hawaii vacation and this cottage was our favorite. The location was perfect for visiting Volcanoes National Park and a treat to come back to at the end of a long day of hiking. The grounds are beautiful and we loved reading our books on the sunny lanai. The interior of the cottage was cozy, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. Information and directions from the owner were very helpful. We can't wait to visit again!

September 2017
Absolutely gorgeous, I wish we had stayed longer just so I could spend more time at the cottage! Everything is as described and pictured, actually even better. It is very private and surrounded by beautiful, lush flora. The 3 lanais made it easy to enjoy being outside even if it was raining. The upstairs lanai was my favorite spot to read while sitting in the hammock. The inside space is very well utilized, with plenty of seating and lounging downstairs and a huge, bright master upstairs. Having a bathroom on both floors was nice too. Everything from the linens, dishes and décor to the furniture, appliances and woodwork was high quality and very well taken care of. One of my favorite things were the little notes around the cottage; they were unobtrusive but super helpful when looking for something or using light switches. The kitchen was well equipped and we found everything easy to use (freshly ground coffee – yum!). There were lots of beach supplies (chairs, boogie boards, coolers) although we weren’t there long enough to get to the beach. You can tell a lot of thought and care was put into everything at the cottage and it’s easy to feel comfortable and relaxed as soon as you arrive. This place was a perfect little nature retreat with plenty of amenities. I dream of owning a place just like this someday!

September 2017
We really enjoyed being surrounded by nature and Lazy Lehau was a lovely, peaceful retreat. The kitchen was well equipped for self catering and the gas fires were effective in keeping us cosy on chillier mornings/evenings. However, most mornings it was sunny enough to enjoy breakfast out on the deck - perfect. It was great to be so close to the Volcano National park, so that we could visit there in the evening too. We had quite a busy few days sightseeing but the cottage was so lovely we wish we had spent more time just relaxing there. Highly recommended.

August 2017
Lazy Lehua Cottage was everything I hoped it would be. Very clean, quaint, & secluded. Beautifully furnished and decorated. Best rental during our recent stay on the island- Only wish we had more time there - intended to stay 3 nights but it booked for the third night before we could grab it. So my advice is to book early. Easy access to the National Park which was wonderful and a time saver. My only suggestion is that the bar stools were difficult to sit in when dining inside at the kitchen bar. Maybe something with a higher footrest would help but that truly was insignificant given the comfort everywhere else. LOVED the bed upstairs-so very comfortable -and view of the stars from the windows above the bed before sunrise was an unexpected treat! Thank you.

July 2017
This is a terrific property! It's fully appointed kitchen makes cooking a breeze. There is even a grill you can use to keep the temps low inside. The cottage is beautifully decorated and with 2 hammocks (1 upstairs and 1 down), there was never a fight over who got to relax in the afternoon light. It's only 5 minutes from the entrance to Volcano National Park where we spent most of our time. But we also made excursion trips to Hilo (35minutes) and Puna (45minutes) to enjoy the local sites outside of the park. It was great to come back to the cottage at night, knowing we could soak in the spa tub if we needed to soothe some aches and pains! And my son loved the bunk beds and running his own "hotel" downstairs.

Amanda P.
July 2017
Stacy's cottage is wonderful - cozy, peaceful, all the amenities you could need, and minutes from Volcanoes NP. My husband loved it so much he hasn't stopped talking about he could recreate the house on some Texas land. We will definitely stay here again if and when we return to the Big Island!

My husband and I began our honeymoon at the Lazy Lehua Cottage, and we could not be more blown away. We wanted to begin our honeymoon in Volcano, HI away from the hustle and bustle of the beaches, and this vacation rental was a dream come true. The cottage itself is warm and inviting with THREE different lanais to enjoy. The kitchen is well equipped with pots, pans, dishes, coffee maker (both electric drip as well as a small french press), coffee grinder, toaster, all major appliances and EVEN SPICES to help with the money saving cooking you can do. We loved the board games and cd's in the downstairs cabinet. We made the long (and worthwhile) trip out the Mauna Kea, and we were so tickled to have so many music options. We even left our Adele 21 album for the guests who follow... The master bedroom is perfection. Comfortable bed, with lots of extra blankets for the nighttime cool down, a closet with hangers if you so desire, a flat screen television and dvd player if you want, and most importantly, a indoor jetted bathtub for two. Perhaps what set this rental from Excellent to OUT OF THIS WORLD for us was the personal touch. We walked in to a hand written note welcoming my husband and me. Inside the fridge, we found a gorgeous, handmade lei resting around a bottle of champagne. There were even two Hershey's kisses on the pillow of the bed. It is obvious that the owner Joyce and the caretaker Rebecca care deeply about this property. The reservation process was painless, the stay has been marvelous and the only downside was leaving. I never imagined I would be disappointed to be heading to Maui! We will most definitely be coming back to the LLC when we come back to Hawaii!

This was a fun stay in an interesting stand alone cottage. It was as though you were on your own with no sign of life around you other than the surrounding rain forest. A great base to explore the volcano, Puna coast and Hilo. We really enjoyed our four nights in this unique lodging. There are several nice restaurants in the area as well. We especially enjoyed Thai Thai right in Volcano. The winery was fun too. Snorkeling at the tidepools was great as well. The cottage is well equipped and the rental experience was very professionally handled. We would return with no hesitation.

Thanks so much for our lovely stay!! This cottage has everything I would ever need! We loved the extra luxurious little touches like fresh flowers, fresh papaya with lime, and pretty cloth napkins on the table! We had a lot of rainy weather, so we got ample time to enjoy the wonderful music, game, and movie collection. The sun poked its head out on our last morning and my children built fairy homes in the dreamy front yard. Thank you for an amazing experience. We hope to come back!!!

The Lazy Lehua Cottage was absolutely amazing! The cottage has everything that you could need while visiting the Volcano area. The outdoor are was very peaceful and the hammocks were nice touches. When we had a small issue, the house caretaker fixed the issue promptly. Volcano Village and the National Park are both minutes away. This is a perfect location for seeing the south / east part of the island. Highly recommended, I cannot say enough good things about our time at the cottage.

Recently returned from our trip to the Big Island. We stayed 3 nights at the Lazy Lehua and wished our stay was a little longer. The cottage is well maintained and very peaceful. You can see all the love that went into the cottage. Lots of nice touches everywhere. The fern forest is very dense and you really can't see any of the neighbors although I did hear a dog barking for a little bit one morning. Nice and quiet, but has everything you might need. Bathroom stocked with all kinds of shampoos, lotions, etc. Kitchen had everything too. We prepared several meals here during our stay. Fresh fruit and flowers were left for us, which was a very nice touch! After staying in Kona, we enjoyed the peace and quiet of this area. The VNP is very close by and we made a few trips over there during our stay. Seeing the crater glowing at night was very interesting. If you happen to get a cloud free night, go outside and look up at the stars!! I was amazed at all of the stars and could clearly see the milky way!! The bed was very comfortable and piled with lots of blankets to keep you warm. The gas stoves on each level help keep the chill out once the sun goes down. The jacuzzi tub was very relaxing after a day hiking around VNP. My only wish is that we had another day to spend at the cottage being truly lazy. It's so peaceful here and with multiple lanais it's hard to decide which one was the best. The owner, Joyce, was very easy to work with. Even provided us with a muffin pan for making breakfast after my request!! We would certainly stay here again when we return to the volcano area. Mahalo Joyce for allowing us to share your treasure!

This was the best place we stayed on the Island. It was cozy, clean and comfortable. We will definitely stay here again!

This place is one of the top 5 places I've ever stayed! I kept saying to my husband "I can't believe we have this whole beautiful house for this price!". It is VERY well-stocked (we used the kitchen every morning and night) and they have a stash of extra bathroom supplies. The place is new, clean, soooo cute, and well taken care of. Be sure to bring a jacket/sweatshirt - it's up at elevation in a cool forest. Wonderful change from hot Pahoa/Hilo area. There are fireplaces and room heaters though so you're fine inside.

We (family of four, boys 6 and 7) loved our time at the Lazy Lehua Cottage. We cooked in a lot and the kitchen had everything we needed. The tub was a wonderful extra...and even the basketball and hoop got good use by our crew. We loved being able to see all the stars, light pollution free from the deck and the morning light in the upstairs room was amazing. It was great to be able to explore Volcanoes National Park, come back to the cottage to clean up and eat and head back in to watch and hear Pele's night show in the crater. The Puna coast shouldn't be missed! When we return, we'll be sure to spend more time at the cottage! Three nights wasn't enough.

Lazy Lehua was even more charming and artistic than advertised. The stay in the rain forest was a welcome break from the beaches. Volcano is a great little town, and access to the National Park couldn't have been easier. Our only complaint was that we didn't rent it for a longer period of time. All of the logistics went like clockwork, and we highly recommend this place.

October 2010
My husband and I just returned from our 1st anniversary trip to the Big Island during which we stayed the entire time at the Lazy Lehua. The house was everything I thought it would be and more...it really exceeded our expectations! The decor was beautiful, the entire place was very clean, and the owner thought of every little detail, so we didn't find ourselves running to the store for things. Best of all, the price was incredibly reasonable considering all the perks (privacy, a full kitchen, free fruit and coffee, the jacuzzi tub, etc). We really enjoyed having coffee out on the lanai each morning. And the bed was incredibly comfy and warm! During our stay (October) the weather was very comfortable. It only rained a few times during the night and the temperature was ranged from the 70s during the day to the 50s at night. When it did get a bit chilly, the propane fireplaces warmed the whole place right up. My only suggestion would be to supply a few more towels for guests staying for an extended period. We found that things tended to stay quite damp because of the surrounding jungle (although we did utilize the drying rack and fan upstairs to speed up the drying process). As for suggestions in the area, we recommed guests drive to South Point and hike out to the Green Sand Beach. It was just beautiful and totally worth the hike! Be warned though, we definitely need 4 wheel drive to get there and plenty of water. For food in the Volcano area, we highly suggest the Kilauea Lodge for breakfast and Kiawe Kitchen for dinner. Thanks for providing such a lovely place! We hope to return one day! :-)

We would highly recommend the LL - if you are traveling to the Big Island, find a way to make a visit here fit into your schedule. This was truly one of the nicest properties we have ever rented. The owners have provided every little touch that makes it a wonderful place to feel like you are at home - only better! The decor is funky, unique, and fun, but not overdone. We stayed here with our 2 daughters (12 & 14) on a 3-day visit to Volcano. We wished we had more time, so we could take a day just to relax at the cottage. I did a great training run in the early morning around the neighborhood. The kitchen is well-appointed, and we prepared several meals here; however the Thai restaurant and the little bakery in town are fantastic. The cottage is immaculate and description and photos are accurate. The owner sent us lots of information in advance to help us plan our visit. We explored HVNP and did some great hikes - do not miss the dark side of the Thurston Lava Tube (but don't forget headlamps!). On the way to Hilo, we went to the tide pools and that was amazing! Our favorite things we did on the Big Island were snorkeling on the Kona side (esp Place of Refuge and at Hapuna Beach), and our time in Volcano. We loved the Hilo farmers market and the walk down the steep road into the Waipio Valley. If you head up that way, be sure to stop in Honokaa for lunch. If you are planning on snorkeling a lot, rather than renting just go to Walmart and buy your snorkel set - then you don't have to worry about turning it in at a certain time and you can explore the beaches spontaneously. We loved the resident kitty at Lazy Lehua and called her "Mahalo"!

We loved our short stay at Lazy Lehua Cottage. It was very quiet and relaxing. The place was clean, very nicely decorated and perfectly situated near Volcanoes National Park. We all enjoyed the spa with a view into the rain forest. We would definitely recommend this property. Mahalo! Stephan and family
