Welcome to @haleromantik!
On the Big Island of Hawaii, we are located at sea level in the last fishing village of quiet, rural Milolii on an ancient lava flow, with lava coastline.

Located 33 miles south from Kailua-Kona, we are just a short 63 miles to Volcano National Park.

Approximately 1-1/2 hours drive south from the Kona International Airport. The road from the highway to my home has many switchbacks. It takes a while to meander down the hillside to get to my home.

We are equi-distant between many popular tourist sites located on the Kona Coast side of the Big Island, i.e. Kealakekua Bay, Place of Refuge, Kahalu'u Black Sands Beach Park, Honomalino Bay, Punalu'u Black Sands Beach Park, Volcano National Park, to name a few.

OCEANFRONT Hale Romantik' on the Big Island of Hawaii, South Kona Coast is located just 40 feet from the ocean. Feel the beauty, sound and excitement the Blue Pacific brings to you. When the high surf impacts the cliff below, causing and occasional surge, sending a fine spray all the way above the deck, it makes a shaking sensation to the house in a surprisingly pleasant manner.

You will not have to look for the whales. You will hear them! And then look! There are also Spinner Dolphins, Green Sea Turtles and occasionally Manta Rays all year long. The waters in this location are considered some of the best KAYAKING and fishing grounds in Hawaii. Snorkeling equipment and Kayaks are also available for your use, on the property.

This oceanfront home has open beam ceilings throughout the house, adding to the sense of space; great for air circulation and a true feeling of Polynesian design with the exotic beams and designer palm fans dramatically displayed above. Italian porcelain tile throughout; simply a pleasure for your stay.

The home has all amenities, including a 500 sq. ft. lanai. Large expanses of windows and sliding doors, connect the home to its ocean views, allowing you to view the ocean from nearly every room, even from each bedroom. Every night you will watch the sun set below the horizon.

This oceanfront home is simply immaculate and fully equipped. Has all what you need including a George Foreman Electric Grill. We cater to the particular!

The home has two deluxe bedrooms with open ceilings for airflow but also sound will carry from room to room. Two separate ensuite deluxe bathrooms with double vanities, with extra large porcelain sinks, and two separate walk-in tile and glass block showers is another highlight. No air conditioning, just the tradewinds to keep you cool!

Milolii is known throughout the islands for its deep sea fishing, and clear waters. The 'last fishing village' in Hawaii is just a 10 minute drive within the Milolii Beach Lots subdivision, where an approx. 15 min. hiking trail leading to a coconut tree lined black sand beach (Honomalino), offers fantastic snorkeling.

The village has a County boat ramp and camp grounds, and offers easy access for kayaking and deep sea fishing.

Milolii offers some of the most underdeveloped stretches of coastline on the Big Island, with secret beaches to explore. It's also a neighborhood with homes nearby.

Seasonal whale watching and Spinner Dolphins. Humpback Whales visit the Hawaiian waters annually from November through May. These endangered mammals enjoy the state's warm waters in the winter to breed, give birth and nurse their young.

Spectacular sunsets can be viewed directly from the oceanfront house. Have your camera ready! Milolii......'where the sun meets the sea', and everyone says hello!

Delighted with our stay! Just as beautiful as shown in the photo, this home has every comfort required for a family to enjoy restful sleep, quiet mornings and evenings. We loved rising early to stargaze and the fact that it’s directly on lava flow right on the ocean was a naturalist’s thrill! We had a great time exploring the cliffs and crannies at the end of the road as well. We appreciated being informed about the switchbacks traversed between the main road and the property which might feel harrowing to some, but the plants, animals and ocean views along the way are incompatible! We’d advise visitors on a tighter budget (like us) to read through what’s included at the home carefully to avoid bringing anything unnecessary since airlines are charging extra for luggage these days and to stop at a grocery store (there’s both a Walmart and a Costco near KOA and numerous smaller local markets) to pick up gallons of drinking water, sunscreen, and food for meals and picnics you plan to make, and to keep an eye out for fruit stands as you make your way to the property instead of heading back out for these things later since it is pretty remote. If shopping, bustling tourist areas with lots of excitement and nightlife are your thing, this would definitely not be right for you; however, if you want to enjoy the quiet beauty of a natural setting within a decent drive to other locations filled with geological and biological wonders, this will be the perfect place to stay.

The property is beautiful, clean, and the doors were unlocked when we arrived so check-in was easy. Stop there. DO NOT USE THIS PROPERTY. The water was contaminated and caused EVERYONE in the group to be sick. We lasted three days out of the 10 we had booked entirely due to the water. It smelled rancid. Even the Previously made ice Caused the entire refrigerator to smell rancid. We contacted the owner and she asked us to un book through Vrbo so that she could re-rent the place. Even though she responded quickly, she did not hear me that her water caused everyone to get sick. The road coming down the mountain into Miloli’i Was completely understated. It contained no Less than 75 turns and four major hairpin turns going straight down the hill towards the ocean. It alone caused Major Anxiety anytime we came or left. The rental is 1.5 hours from Kona, even though only 37 miles. Beware. VRBO will not refund due to unsanitary/unhealthy conditions. The host said she would only refund if she could find another renter This is very sad considering how sick people were. Seems like making money trumps common sense.

This property was perfect for our stay. It was clean, had all necessities we needed plus some helpful extras including books and fans. The neighbors are quiet, it had plenty of room inside for 2 couples as well as a fantastic lanai to relax and enjoy the incredible view. We knew from the photos that it had an ocean front view with volcanic cliffs but pictures will never do it justice. It is absolutely breathtaking and perfect for those wanting to experience the uniqueness of Hawaii apart from the more traditional beaches. There is quite a drive to and from any restaurants, tours, etc. but even the drive itself is wonderful and worth it. This was our first visit to Hawaii and we are already planning to go back!

Absolutely loved the house, the ocean views, the ocean sounds and the nightly variety of sunsets. The house was well equipped of anything you might need besides food and libation. The nightly sounds and whispering winds allowed for fast send offs to dream land. The road from the main road to the house was a challenge but the reward was the final destination. Thanks for allowing us to stay and we’ll always remember our time at “Romantik”

My husband and I were looking for a relaxing place to stay after spending 5 days in Volcanos National Park, and this was the absolutely perfect spot! The location on the lava bluff was outstanding, as it was so relaxing and peaceful to sit on the lanai and look at the water and fish/dophins swimming by. The house facing west allowed us to enjoy beautiful sunsets every night. With the exception of a few day trips, we wanted to primarily relax and have all our meals at the house. This was easy to do, because the kitchen was extremely well equipped! The bathrooms were wonderfully appointed with all amenities. The bedrooms were spacious, and beds were comfortable. There were lots of good outlets for normal plug in and USB. Kirsten really seemed to have thought of everything to make the stay at Hale Romantik absolutely fantastic and so relaxing. We are already talking about when to come back during the winter to watch the whale migrating.

Fabulous ocean front home with sweeping views of the water. Everything was great and the fridge even has a working ice maker. Special treat there if you like ice in your drinks. We did find the moisture in the air from the ocean caused all the dirt on the floor to stick to the bottom of your feet or socks but that was quickly remedied by having flip flops or sandals available. Saw whales, dolphins and even a shark swim by. Great place in a relaxing location.

A beautiful property and location. We loved our stay at Hale Romantik . Did not want to leave the lanai. We watched the whales everyday. What a wonderful time of year to visit. Looking forward to visiting again.

The house we rented for a month was exactly as listed. Well appointed amenities, an ocean facing lanai that we lived on, and a view of the Pacific Ocean you have to experience to believe how fabulous it is. Pictures do not do justice to what you will have. Our host kept us informed of weather/tide conditions via text. The house was very clean with a well stocked kitchen, and the open air designed always insured a breeze throughout the house. We saw whales every day along with dolphins, flying fish, and sea turtles from the comfort of the lanai. We decided to cancel our Panama Canal cruise for next February and rebooked Hale Romantik. I highly recommend this property for a truly fabulous get-away vacation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our days at this property and were perfectly content to relax on the lanai and marvel at the view. The house is well equipped and the description of the property is very accurate. The house is great for a couple who wants to get away from it all and explore the southern part of the island. We loved our stay there!

What a beautiful, peaceful, and secluded property! We so enjoyed our time here. A lovely house right on the ocean. the road to the property was long and winding, yet worth every curve. Our host kept us updated on weather changes, which was nice. The property has beautiful views. If 2 couples go, be aware the ceilings are open, you can hear everything. You're not in the heart of the city, but oh, so lovely. Also, WE SAW A WHALE!!! Highlight of our final morning at the house!

I booked for my “2 week” 70th birthday celebration. View is amazing, house is very well equipped and you will never want to leave the deck during sundown. The house is very remote and one heck of a drive to get there but is in a great location to go either east or west to enjoy all the island has to offer. Enjoy!

We had a wonderful time in Hawaii and this house was perfect for our needs! It is a quiet neighborhood, but you are about and hour away from everything. Kristen was wonderful as well, she was very easy to reach if we needed anything or had any questions. It was our 33rd wedding anniversary and she even left us a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates with a card to help us celebrate. Loved the view from the lanai and on our first day, there was a full rainbow over the ocean! If we ever visit Hawaii again, we will definitely consider staying here again! Mahalo!

We wanted to see Kilauea and have some down time. The volcano was great. It had begun to erupt a little just before we left for Hawaii. The area is remote and we had to plan out our food, but we loved the quiet and the view of the ocean was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay. It was exactly what we were looking for. Thank you Kirsten for your updates and making sure all was great. We did not have any problems with finding the house.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Hale Romantik. Being right on the ocean was so enjoyable. We spent many hours sitting out on the lanai enjoying the beautiful vista and spectacular sunsets! The house was centrally located so we could explore the whole island on all sides. As well, the house was very well stocked with all the items needed for a great stay.

My wife and I stayed here for a week and it was absolutely wonderful. First of all, no offense to the other reviewers but the road down to the house is not a big deal at all. It takes about 10 minutes to get down off of the main road but there is no difficulty in it. We read a lot of reviews mentioning getting groceries before you go to the house due to the distance that you have to drive. We got off the plane and drove right to Costco and Walmart. I bought many things including condiments only to find out that Kirsten’s house was so well stocked it had many of these things in the kitchen already. I don’t think you can bank on having everything but I’m not sure I would rush to the grocery store on my next trip. I would check what’s in the kitchen and then also load up on the local fruit from the fruit stands along the road down to the house. The view from the lanai is absolutely unreal. You can watch fish swim in the water right in front of the house. The neighbor is close but they are super respectful about privacy and we only exchanged pleasantries once in a week. I recommend walking around the village to check out the awesome lava formations and go down to the old boat launch to enjoy some snorkeling. The ability to wash clothes was a big bonus. Wifi was strong enough for me to remote work. Kayaks & boogie boards are available but we ran out of time to enjoy them. I recommend renting a 4WD that allows you to drive to the Green Sand beach and Mauna Kea, it was amazing!

Book it!!! It’s PERFECT! I honestly have never considered going back to the same VRBO twice but I’m truly considering it with this one. The views were amazing. The pictures on the listing show exactly what you are going to get - no surprises. It’s definitely more rural so if you are looking for a place to stay and relax and escape the touristy locations, this is 1000% the place for you. In terms of price, you are getting a really good deal compared to other places — especially with the quality and transparency of the booking. Thanks for an amazing stay!!! I will tell my friends and family to go!

Everything was amazing about this rental... Best equipped kitchen we've ever rented, snorkel gear of all sizes, the breeze was amazing, we never missed ac. It's a long curvy drive down to the house though!

We loved the secluded spot for our honeymoon, it was absolutely perfect. We didnt mind the drive to any of the places we went to explore either. It has a perfect view of the ocean and you can still get some sun too laying out.

April 2023
We love the view and overall the house was great. It was clean and accommodating. We cooked dinner and breakfast at the house and had everything we needed in regards to appliances and cookware. The only downside was that there was no AC and all the windows had to be open for any breeze. So if you are looking for privacy from the neighbors right next door who also had their windows open, this might not be the place for you. The slight issue was the road to get to the house from the main road was very long and windy. It takes about 10-15mins just to get out of the neighborhood. The switchbacks made me car sick, and I rarely get car sick so that was an unpleasant surprise. It is quite out of the way; far from any town or gas/restaurant/grocery/coffee shop. It generally took 45 mins to get anywhere (also the low speed limits contributed to that). Otherwise, the property itself was very pleasant and the host was as well. We enjoyed our stay overall, but would not book again just due to the location and privacy issues.

Bryan H.
April 2023
The home is beautiful and well cared for. The owner’s communication was excellent. Zero drama or surprises. We understood that this home was not going to be very close to anything. We wanted to get away. The drive from the main road down to the neighborhood is steeper and twistier than I expected. I became weary of the drive, but I never grew weary of the property or the views of the ocean.

April 2023
The photos don’t do it justice. Dolphins in the morning. Amazing sunset at night. Quiet and serene. Bring bottled water to drink. Big Island Revealed app to show you around. Book as many days as possible, you won’t want to leave.

This property was the perfect place for out visit to the Big Island. If you are looking for a beautiful, quite place away from the normal traffic of the Big Island, Hale Romantik is the place. Loved waking up every morning to the ocean view and sea breeze. Looking forward to staying here again.. SOON !!

March 2023
The house was exactly as advertised. It would be hard to get a better view anywhere on the island. The house was well stocked with anything you might need. If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy viewing the ocean, this one is perfect. There is a narrow mountain like road getting onto the property, for that reason we did not go places everyday & made sure we were back before dark.

If you want to get away from the crowds this is the place. We have stayed in Miloli’i Estates 5 times now and keep getting the urge to return. Where else could affordable oceanfront home rentals be found? Hale Romantik is right on the ocean, with uninterrupted views. The soothing sound of the waves breaking is so relaxing, especially at night. For excitement we had storm warnings with heavy seas for a couple of days. The rollers would hit the 10 ft cliff fronting the lanai, and would, at times, splash onto the roof. Pretty spectacular! The house is immaculate and as described by others. There is an electric George Foreman grill on the deck, and although I was skeptical, it did a great job cooking pork chops and searing a slab of fresh Ahi to perfection. Cleanup of the grill was a snap.. My wife and I would highly recommend Hale Romantik to others.

December 2022
We just spent 7 nights at Hale Romantik. We were looking for a quiet, peaceful place as close to the ocean as possible - and we found it. The property is as advertised and did not disappoint. Kirsten was an engaging and responsive host. Others have commented on the need for bug spray on the lanai - that is a must. It is a bit of a drive from the highway - but that's what it takes to reach the ocean front solitude that makes this place special - totally worth it. Had a great time and would definitely return.

November 2022
Never having visited this island before we were in the dark as to where to stay. The booking process was excellent and our host was fantastic! Very responsive with a few issues we had during our stay. This property is very well equipped with everything thing you could need for the exception of your food. There are some nice spices, condiments and the kitchen is nicely equipped. The views from the Lani are spectacular, enjoyed several beautiful sunsets. That being said, the mosquitoes can be quite pesky. There was a nice selection of repellent left behind by previous guests as well as the can we left too and that was helpful. The drive down to this property is challenging with many twists and turns. The locals like to drive quite fast on this road with little regard for someone that is not used to the road, also had several drive right up close to the rear of our car! The drive down from the airport is long, we drove it at night which was difficult with many curves along the way. Grocery stores are few and must drive at least 20-30 minutes to get to one from this property. Don’t expect a lot of restaurant’s there just aren’t many around. If you like coffee then your in luck, we experienced many up and down the roads, some great, some just mediocre! Our favorite was on the way to Volcano National Park called Miranda’s Farms, family owned with GREAT coffee. Best cup of Cappuccino I have ever had…. If you like Gelato then don’t miss Gypsea Gelato on Hawaii Belt Highway. If you chose this property it has everything you’ll need to enjoy yourself, a host that is fabulous and extremely responsive to text and phone calls and that is appreciated especially when you’ve never been to this location before. We spent two weeks here, if I were to do this again I’d split my time between the south end of island and a week on the north end. There is much to do and see so we drove many miles to do all the things we wanted to do. They call this the “ BIG ISLAND” for a very good reason….it’s huge!! Enjoy

November 2022
This property is totally awesome. Its away from the rush and noise of places closer to "town", and is so relaxing. Seeing and hearing the ocean right outside is amazing and you never know what you might see. The house is fully equipped and ready to live in comfortably. Snorkeling gear and kayaks are a bonus. This has become our destination!

October 2022
The house is right on a bed of black rocks that holds the most amazing view of the pacific ocean. The ability to watch various boats, sea life and sunset/sunrises. The house was perfect for our needs and wants. If there were any concerns or questions Kirsten was very quick to respond. If I come back to the big island, I would love to have the opportunity to stay here again. Thank you Kirsten sharing your home with us.

Perched atop a cliff overlooking the Pacific, Hale Romantik is the perfect spot for glorious sunsets. Kirsten, a gracious host, has thought of everything in this beautiful, well-kept home including a large book of nearby things to do and places to eat. This is the place to stay on the South Kona coast.

The oceanfront Hale Romantik was a terrific Hawaiian destination vacation with our grown daughter (after several years of being away from her due to the pandemic). We’ve been to Hawaii in the past and stayed in rentals near busy beaches and nightlife; this time we were looking for an inspiring seaside destination -- Hale Romantik was perfect for us. Morning coffee on the lanai, snorkeling at the isolated Honomalino Beach, and fabulous home-cooked meals enjoyed with wine at sunset on our oceanfront lanai – exactly what we hoped! This vacation home is clean, comfortable, relaxing and with everything you need. Kirsten’s description online and her communications with us before our arrival were spot-on. Upon our arrival in Kona, we loaded up our car with fresh veggies, fruits, water, and wine before the journey south to Miloli’i, and then settled in to enjoy a week at this oceanfront retreat in a quiet neighborhood. Out of the mainstream, out of the ordinary – we loved this Hawaiian experience!

September 2022
We loved Kirsten's beautiful home. The views were amazing. So cool to watch dolphins and a shark swim by while enjoying our morning coffee. Kitchen was well outfitted for all of our needs. With the windows open the breeze off of the ocean kept us very comfortable. It was a great launch pad for all of our adventures but we love to drive around new places. We put 1200 miles on our rental in 9 days. The black sand beach just down the road was like snorkeling in an aquarium. We went twice! My only wish is that we could have stayed longer. There are so many things to do on the big island.

September 2022
The house and property are absolutely perfect to sit and relax watching the ocean and the sky. Very quiet area and everything you really need inside the house as well. The short drives for any little items or food were not any issue at all…..My wife and I totally recommend Kirsten’s property to anyone that wants to chill out and still hop around the island to take advantage of all it has to offer.

This was an absolute beauty.. the property was immaculate.. the views were absolutely stunning, and the quit neighborhood was exactly what we needed… if you are like us and do not want hustle and bustle this place is perfect! We were able to drive around the entire island so it was definitely a good location for us.. we did Hilo and volcanoes one day and Kona on another! Kristen was the best at answering questions and helping us out! We hope to visit again

Kristen’s house was a magical place to spend four days in a secluded fishing village by the sea. Please note: if you are looking to be close to touristy amenities, this is not the place for you. Be ready to drive 30 minutes for groceries. But if you want a peaceful, beautiful, well stocked home right on the ocean, this will be right up your alley. Sunsets on the lanai were amazing, and we even spotted some sea life a few different mornings. The house is about an hour 15 minutes from Kona and about an hour and a half from Volcanoes National Park. Kristen is also an amazingly thorough, responsive host who has filled the home with all sorts of helpful things. Highly recommend if you want a Big Island experience away from the hordes.

My wife and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon and we had a great time. The house is in a nice quiet and secluded neighborhood, which was perfect for us. The views from the house were incredible! It’s right on the water and has a perfect lanai for relaxing and watching the sunset! The house is in really good shape and was super clean. I felt the pictures online didn’t do it justice. Kirsten was also really attentive and good about communicating with us. She also provided gear for almost any activity you can think of: snorkeling, kayaks, beach chairs and towels, boogie boards, fishing poles, and more! Couldn’t have asked for anything more! Full disclosure: this place is a little over an hour drive from a lot of the activities in Kona, but we thought it was well worth the drive. We also felt we got a much more authentic Hawaiian experience staying here, which we loved. It’s on the way to the green sand beach and the volcano, so if you’re planning to do those things then this is the place for you! Overall, we loved the house and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice secluded/quiet place to stay.

June 2022
Be prepared to be away from everything. The drive down from the main road to the house is a switch back road that takes a lot of concentration due to the sharp turns but once you arrive at the house the views are well worth the drive. There was a beautiful sunset on most evenings that we enjoyed on the lanai. We saw some dolphins and there was some type of fish that hung out just below the lanai. We weren’t sure what it was but he was there every day. It’s been mentioned that you are a good drive from anywhere and that includes a store so it’s good advice to shop while in Kona before making the drive because a quick run to the store will take an hour. We read that they had coin operated washer and dryer at the house so we brought change. Didn’t need the change as the machines are just used machines with the guts of the coin drop. It is a drive from anywhere on the island so plan your day and take what you think you will need so that it won’t be necessary to return until it’s time. The house doesn’t have any A/C and we were in mid May and didn’t need any with the fans blowing on us we were plenty comfortable. Overall it was a great place to stay and Kirsten is a great host and willing to answer any questions. She’s also a realtor and has been helpful with our questions and search for a house. For anyone looking to stay in a location off the beaten path look no further. This home checks all the boxes. The home is on a lava cliff ~30-40 feet above the pacific. Close enough to hear the waves at night and receive a nice trade wind breeze. Kristen (the home owner) is very organized and ensures that you have all information you need about the property. Prior to booking she was very responsive and provided honest information about the home and its location. As to the location, the home is 20-30 min away from the nearest grocery store or restaurant but what it lacks in convenience it makes up for in beauty, cleanliness, and accessibility to remote beach locations. The fishing village of Miloli is a short 5-10 min drive and allows for easy access the ocean or launching the kayaks available at the home. A short hike from this location takes you to a remote black sand beach that sees only a handful of people a day. Other activities such as luaus, sailing, surfing are a 20-30 mile drive which can take 45 to 65 minutes depending on your comfort with driving 2 lane roads. Our only challenge identifying the correct location to dispose of our garbage, however I am sure if we would have just texted Kristen she would have let us know. All in all we had a wonderful time and we would highly recommend this home to anyone who likes to stay in a more remote location away from the tourism bustle.

We had a wonderful time at Hale Romantik! We especially enjoyed the lanai overlooking the water and spent most of our time there when at the house. The house is well appointed and beds are comfortable. The location is good for exploring Honomalino Beach a short hike from Milolii (be mindful of the tides as the first part of the trail can be almost knee deep at high tide), and other south end sites. We appreciated having use of the boogie boards and snorkeling gear. Unfortunately, we did not have time to make use of the kayaks, in part because water access from the house is limited due to the lava shelf (and our rental was not equipped with a rack for hauling the boat(s)). The neighborhood is quite and safe. The nextdoor neighbors are friendly while also respecting privacy. Definitely would recommend this house if looking for something off the beaten path.

June 2022
The location is beautiful- right on the edge of a lava cliff, you couldn’t ask for more incredible views. First morning we woke up to dolphins just off the balcony. Conveniently located to so many sites, some of the best snorkeling we found was just down the road within walking distance. I sincerely hope this isn’t our last visit.

The house was well equipped and very clean. The lanai on the ocean was incredible. The neighbor's house is very close, We were expecting mosquitos but we did not see any.

Simply AMAZING is not enough to sum up our stay at this home. The breathtaking views from the Lanai were enjoyed every night. The splashing of the water on the rocks is mesmerizing, the village down below and the villagers themselves welcomed us with open arms. The house is so accommodating we did not want to leave. We actually were so sad on the day we left we cried. Checking in and checking out was very easy. Kirsten was always available and super easy to work with. We got to know the neighbors and they made us feel at home. The home is located away from the crowds in Kona which we wanted. The black sand beach in Honomolino was hands down our favorite, a short hike to this beautiful secluded beach led us to the most amazing snorkeling we have ever done. We encountered a pod of Dolphins and were surrounded by over 30 spinner dolphin!!. So beautiful. We just can't say enough about this beautiful home and will definitely be back hopefully for a longer stay because 16 nights was just not enough. Thank you Kirsten for sharing your home with us.

If you're looking for solitude, quiet breezes, ocean views and comfortable beds and living area, this is a heavenly escape. I expected the property to be more rustic, but it's one of the cleanest, well equipped properties we've booked. Definitely remote, but that's exactly what we needed.

We couldn't have possibly enjoyed our stay more! The home has a beautiful view of the ocean and the sounds of the waves smacking the rocks below are so enthralling. The "last little fishing village" of Milolii is quiet and peaceful and a VERY welcome escape from the crowds and chaos everywhere else you go on the island. It was wonderful to go out exploring the island, the sights and the beaches and then come back to our relaxing, calming and serene rental at Hale Romantik. Kirsten was very accommodating to our requests, great to work with and definitely took the extra effort to be sure everything was enjoyable for us. What a wonderful, memorable time we had that will not soon be forgotten. Mahalo!

We stayed a week at this rental and enjoyed house & the ocean life so much! The views from the lanai are breathtaking! We were lucky enough to observe whales, dolphins, sharks, goats, grouse & partridge usually twice a day from the property. Sunsets like no other! The drive down from the highway is beautiful & we purchased often from the little fruit stands along the road. (World's best avocados) Kristen was the best host we have ever had, her communication was excellent & gracious. We highly recommend this rental to anyone wanting to get away from the hectic life it's very peaceful!

If you're wanting easy access to shopping, restaurants and sightseeing, this location is not for you. It's at least an hour drive to Hilo or Kailua-Kona. If you're looking for a place to relax, stroll through the neighborhood, and enjoy breathtaking sunsets, then you're in the right place. The property is very well managed and fully equipped. The internet, while not stellar, is suitable for streaming, just not HD quality. Watching the local channels can be spotty, especially in the morning and late afternoon. Be Prepared! The mosquitoes can carry you away if you're not ready. All in all, we were very satisfied with Hale Romantik and would not hesitate to come again.

We had a wonderful time the entire week of our stay! The home is off the beaten path, right on a lava cliff and waves roared constantly off our deck. Home was first class and be prepared for some much deserved private time. Relax, have a cold beverage and watch the waves roll in.

We loved this property; though it isn't the glitz and glam of hotel life if thats what you're looking for. We weren't and it was perfect... very very quiet neighborhood, stellar sunset views/ocean views, we spotted whales and a shark swim by right in front of the lanai. Very comfortable and very well appointed inside, great sea shell searching on a walk to beach. Great local fruit stands on the way down to the village. Tips: Not sure if this is really kid friendly as the cliff to the ocean is right in front of the lanai; it's more than an hr south of Kona on a narrow windy road that you have to take to get to local beaches etc. Didn't bother us at all and I'll reiterate we enjoyed it. Bring your own water... easy peasy. Great access to S. Point and the Southern part of Big Island, volcano etc. Recap: our trips to Hawaii are best when we stay in a property that we can adventure from during the day and enjoy the sunset on the lanai at night, and this is a great, very peaceful and quiet property to do that from.

Great house right on the ocean. Very quiet and beautiful. Lots of fans and open windows kept us comfortable without AC. It was a bit of a long windy drive up to the main road but was fine. Well equipped, clean, nice furnishings and appliances.

This is a beautiful home that is very clean and well cared for. It sits on lava rocks that go out into the ocean. A great spot to sit and relax on the lanai! The host was helpful and very nice to work with. It’s a very peaceful location, in a development of homes that is removed from the hustle and bustle of busier areas. The road to the house is steep and winding, but a nice quiet spot once you are there.

This was the most beautiful place I’ve ever stayed. Located on a lava cliff with a massive western facing covered lanai allows for relaxing private sunsets with waves crashing just feet away. The house itself is spotless, modern well equipped and well maintained. It’s location, 10 minutes from a pristine black sand beach and midway between Volcano and Kona allows easy access to all sorts of adventures. I’m already looking At coming back!!!

I didn’t want to leave. I mean it hurt. I loved this place. Staying in this house made us want to move from Indiana to the big island. LOVED LOVED LOVED IT! If you stay anywhere else (especially a resort) you’re making a mistake.

Extremely well appointed VRBO located 40 feet from the ocean on an outcrop. Incredible ocean viewing ( birds, fish, waves, boats, butterflies ) from the covered lanai. We spent hours every day hypnotized by the view. Ocean access nearby and the neighborhood is very quiet. Property is very well maintained and the kitchen has everything you need.

Amazing views!! Clean and stocked well. Was so happy to find a scale to weigh our luggage too. Only complaint would be the beds were pretty uncomfortable. Both my husband and I woke up with back pain every morning. Oh also the blinds are completely see through and you do have neighbors on both sides. Also just a heads up for anyone traveling with more than just you and a spouse, the bedrooms do have doors but the ceiling is wide opened and shared with the other space in the house so you can literally like hold a conversation just normal voice with the other bedroom. Just something to know ahead of time if with another couple or your kids. It didn’t bother us because it was just myself and my husband. overall a great stay though seriously!!

We absolutely loved our stay at Romantik, the house is well maintained and very tidy- excellent views and comfortable beds, a very easy place to stay. The listing is very accurate. Kristen was an excellent host and provided great communication. Bring mosquito repellant, south Kona mosquitos are inside and out.

We had a great time at this property. The house itself is quality and the location on the cliffs is amazing. This was everything we had hoped for and hope to be back. Highly recommended for those looking for a place away from the crowds.

We throughly enjoyed our stay at this property. We loved the waterfront location and outside living space. The house was very comfortable and perfect for our needs. The house has great cross ventilation and plenty of ceiling fans to keep everyone comfortable. The house is extremely well supplied with everything we needed. It’s a quiet neighborhood and a very interesting area. A great choice for a holiday retreat! We recommend it!

Very peaceful beautiful home very well stocked with soaps and condiments a bit of a drive to go anywhere but we’ll worth it. Spacious home beautiful views and if u drive 10 minutes down the road to the little Comunity then park at the basket ball court then hike 10 minutes threw the woods u come to a beautiful sandy beach no rocks to walk through then u can snorkel. Pack a lunch and have a picnic it’s very secluded and well worth the little hike

Love this house! My wife have been staying at this house for years though it has been a while since we stayed on the Kona side of the island. When I checked into the house I kept repeating to myself why? The house is simply amazing, lovely ocean views from the balcony, spectacular sunsets, and then watched the stars at night while having some drinks…. I set up a few Zoom calls so people from the west coast, east coast, and the UK could watch the sunset with me and everybody was amazed !!!!! We will be back again and sooner this time!!!!! Mike

Every part of the stay here was incredible! Stunning views, spacious, all items we needed were there! The lanai was just spectacular! No AC but plenty of fans to keep cool! Not far for days trips all over the island but very remote down the hill where it’s located! We didn’t want to leave! Host was very helpful accommodating!

My sister and I stayed at the home for 9 days. The views were amazing! The home is VERY clean and comfortable. Kristen has thought of just about everything to make your stay easy. We spent from sun up to sundown on the lanai enjoying the view and the trade winds that blew through. The drive in was a little tricky in the dark and pouring rain, but once we arrived it was well worth it. It is remote, but a great place to get away from it all. I highly reccomend staying here!

This house was definitely off the beaten path, but that was exactly what we were looking for! It took us about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic to get in-and-out of town center l, but we were mid way located to so many other things. The home had stunning views, so well organized, and very clean! It did not have air conditioning, but with a ceiling fan in every room, the way the windows were set up, and the fact that the walls did not meet the ceiling ensured that there was always plenty of cool air flow directly in from the sea. This was the perfect place for our family of 4 to unwind!

This was a beautiful property that was very comfortable and well stocked for our long vacation. The beds were very comfortable. The two main bedrooms on the main floor were very roomy with fantastic bathrooms. They were plenty of towels and beach towels. We were able to bring beach chairs, and umbrella and boogie boards to the beach that were provided by the rental house. There were plenty of lounge chairs on the patio and a nice eating area on the deck. The view was fantastic. It was fun watching the waves and looking for marine life. There were kayaks available for our use but we didn’t use them as it would have been difficult to launch them from the area close to us. We found some nice beaches between Milolii and Kailua Kona. Our favorite was Hookena Beach. Two step and Captain Cook were not too far. The Green Sand beach on the southern tip was also a fun place to go to. The owners were super easy to work with. Thanks for sharing your house with us!

Enjoying our stay on the big island of Hawaii. This home is wonderful. There are three bed rooms and three full baths. If you love quiet and seclusion it’s perfect. It’s about equal distance to kona or Hilo (about an hour). Our neighbors have been great. We certainly have been made to feel welcome.

A very beautiful spot - it was ideal for our family. We spent quite a bit of time sitting on the deck reading and looking at the ocean. We also saw some beautiful sunsets. The property is off the beaten path and takes some driving time to get to restaurants, grocery stores and snorkeling. However, for our family, we very much enjoyed the relative solitude.

We enjoyed our stay in this oceanfront house off the beaten path in Milolii. The home is beautiful with a nice floor plan. My favorite part - the lovely lanai. What I was not fond of: The steep winding drive from the main road to the house. No direct access to the ocean from the property. These two reasons brought my rating from a 5 to a 4 star.

April 2018
We stayed about 10 days and found the home to be very comfortable. The kitchen had all the utensils needed, the lani was large and we ate all our meals out there. The beds were also very comfortable. We saw dolphins and sharks but sadly no whales. The neighbors are very frienfly and told us about Honomalino Beach which totally made our stay perfect. Be advised that there are lots of mosquitos when the wind stops! Bug spray and mosquito coils are necessary! We would stay here again!

Stayed here so we could be close to snorkel at 2 step. House was roomy and nice. I take issue with the guest whose review said there were no mosquitos. Sat out for an hour in the sun thinking I was fending off the mosquitos only to discover they were biting me through my bathing suit and my whole backside was bit up. Yes I know there are mosquitos everywhere and the winds were at 5-10 mph and they did not keep mosquitos away. The house is sealed well so they did not get in unlike a house we stayed at last yr about a block away. But outside was the same. Will not stay again in milolii

Ole and Elaine have a beautiful home and we enjoyed every minute of our stay at their incredible oceanfront Milolii property! Like other reviewers, my family and I would love to keep this one a secret for ourselves...but that's not fair. You will not be disappointed with a vacation at this property. The house has everything you need to enjoy a wonderful home away from home vacation. Elaine was so wonderful to work with, so helpful, and so responsive. My family and I live on the Big Island and can't wait to spend our next stay-cation at Ole and Elaine's home! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

I don't even know where to begin. The house is exceptionally well appointed. It was perfect for a personal piece of Hawaiian coastal heaven for my husband and I, but it would be fabulous for families or couples to share. The layout provides ample views, yet private space for all. The views are spectacular. We spent hours on the lanai watching the ocean. We saw whales, spinner dolphins and flying fish. A whale even breached about 500 yards off shore right in front of us. It was one of the most amazing sights I have ever witnessed. The lava flows, sea cliffs and sea caves are a wonder to explore and just steps away. On calm days explore the sea caves. If the swells get big, just sit back and watch the show! And the sea can't put on a spectacles show indeed! If it is calm you can drop in to the ocean for kayaking, paddling boarding. The sunsets are amazing. The stars at night glorious. The moon will light up the ocean as the sound of the waves lull you to sleep. If you pick up ample supplies and groceries in Hilo on your way in, you will never have to leave and probably will never want to! Yet, there is so much to explore on the island. Snorkeling abounds - AMAZING! Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park is a must. We were fortunate enough to be here when the lava tube was flowing into the ocean. Go to the visitor's center after dark and see the glow of the caldera. On the way stop by Punalu'u Bake Shop, the southernmost bakery in the US, and try their fresh Hawaiian sweet bread and lilikoi malasada. And don't miss the turtles at the Black Sand Beach. It's all short excursion from your home away from home in paradise. We have rented twice now from the Jensen's. We loved both of their Miloli'i properties. If you want paradise away from it all, but with all the appointments of a high-end resort, you can't lose with any of the Jensen's Miloli'i properties! Thanks Elaine and Ole. See you next year!!

We stayed here last month from 3/10 – 3/18. This house was perfect for my husband and I. Located in a small fishing village in Miloli’i which was great area to have a real Big Island experience. The drive to the house down the curvy road was a little crazy at first but the view of the village is breathe taking to say the least. We found it was best to get back to the house by dark until we were more comfortable with the area. It’s pretty much half way between Volcano’s National Park/Hilo area and Kona. When not out site seeing most of our time was spent taking in the beautiful view from the spacious lanai while listening to the waves crash against the rocks. This was our first experience with a rental. Elaine made the process very easy and she always responded very quickly to any questions. She was friendly and the house was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. I’m glad the Jensen’s shared their lovely property with us. We surely had a fabulous time and the weather was great. Can't wait to go back to the Big Island now.

This home was truly amazing, we loved our experience here. The home was spacious, airy, and clean; the bedrooms were large with plenty of closet space (one main floor mattress is memory foam), and the bathrooms were beautiful. The main floor bedrooms are open to the vaulted ceiling (the walls do not go all the way to the ceiling), so there could be noise depending on who you were sharing the house with. The downstairs bedroom is completely separate, as is a separate downstairs storage room where the laundry and third bathroom are located. The lanai was fantastic, words cannot do it justice - sunshine during the day, beautiful sunsets, and millions of stars at night. We were also able to see whales and fish. The surf pounding against the lava at night was a really cool experience; we had a particularly rough night where it boomed and shook the house. There is a turnaround and a lava outcropping just down the street that was a particularly great place to watch the ocean and the sunset. This place is a bit of a drive from Kona, so you have to be committed to the drive if you want to do touristy things, but the drive is gorgeous. I like a good drive and being away from the crowd, so this location was great for me. We would love to return to this place. Highly recommend.

There are so many elements to a perfect getaway. So many this can go wrong. But this house made every thing work out. From the Big waves of the Pacific, to the glorious sunsets, this house had it all. The Jensen's where so easy to work with. Communication was thorough and prompt. We had the advantage of a relative who lives on the island set up our kitchen with all the food we needed for the week. Elaine Jensen was kind enough to let him come earlier in the day. This house is so well stocked with anything you need otherwise. Milolii seems to be away from it all, which is good in its own way, but it is truly conveniently located. Whether you wanted to cook in their well-appointed kitchen or take a quick trip to Ocean View for delicious takeout , we always made it back to the huge lanai to enjoy the surf and the views. At night, there are just a few lights shining in your entire view with the only exception are the stars that you could almost touch. One early morning I woke up to see the moon set across the Pacific, painting a shimmering orange path to itself. There are two identical rooms with everything you need. My wife's mother & sister used those rooms. My wife & I used the downstairs bedroom. I am pleased with the additional bedroom the Jensen's added. We experience additional privacy that was unexpected. The fun part of the downstairs is the adventure of it. I loved the fact that I had to put on my surf shoes to walk around to the bath area for the downstairs guests. I would have missed all the stars and pounding surf that seem to magnify by the minute. We quickly bonded to the space. I would say if you had teen children, they would choose this space over the upstairs. The surf was too rough for us to use the sports equipment, but that added to the spectacular waves that would splash as high as the roof. No worries, we were perfectly dry on the lanai. The best compliment I can give is that our relatives, who lives on the island, told us that they were considering renting the house when others come to visit them. They live in a beautiful home but nothing compare to the feel and beauty of being 35 feet from the Pacific.

I want to keep this home a secret. I came here to clear my mind and work in solitude. Perched at the edge of the world without anyone else around, the constant, booming echoes of the ocean quickly drowned out all those tiny nagging thoughts that accompany normal life. When I first opened the door I couldn't look away from the stunning ocean view. I I stood there staring until I finally felt the first of the big waves impact the cliffs far below. These occasional surges send a fine spray all the way above the deck and shake the house in a surprisingly pleasant manner. Here, I let nature dictate my schedule. I rose with the sun every morning and cooked breakfast, surrounded by huge windows that framed the sea. During the day I worked outside on the deck, huddled against a small wooden desk pressed as far toward the ocean as it could go. One hundred and eighty degrees of ocean and cliff, bounded by distant Hawaiian hills. Every now and then a salty breeze would hit my face, prompting me to stand up and just stare. In the evenings I would watch the sun set in a performance just for me, as if there were no other audience in all the world. Afterward I gazed at the stars and the Milky Way. There's absolutely no light pollution in this tiny neighborhood, which is a godsend if you live anywhere remotely urban. Eventually I felt so tiny and insignificant that I came to the same sleepy conclusion each night: "I can't really affect things much, so maybe I should stop struggling so mightily to do so." There's a very comfortable living room for reading or watching a huge TV if you're stuck inside due to heavy rain. The WiFi accessible internet access is significantly better than most rentals. For anyone who's previously stayed in homes around Big Island, you should note that there are almost no insects outside, due to the wind off the ocean. The windows are well maintained and so unlike many other rentals the interior is also blissfully bug free. There are two identical bedroom suites upstairs, each with a full bath and twin vanities. You can choose to close off each room with giant sliding doors and curtains, but I kept everything open. There's also large bedroom in the basement with its own ocean view, which you can see in the pictures, but I never went down there. There's a coin-op laundry which worked well when I used it. This house is astounding.

We stayed here for 11 nights and we couldn't be more pleased with our choice to stay here. We contacted the owner through VRBO and were promptly replied to. Elaine was such a pleasure to work with. Quick replies, great communication, and great instructions to get to the house. This house has everything you need for a perfect Hawaiian vacation. Kayaks, fishing gear, snorkeling gear, and AMAZING VIEW. You can fish right off the lava rocks in the pics. The pics in this add are 100% accurate. You are right on the rocks overlooking the ocean. Hearing the waves as we fell asleep and when we woke up was wonderful. If you want to stay in a quiet, beautiful, peaceful community, this is the place for you. It's away from the hustle bustle of the city. Easy access to towns, quaint shopping both to the north or south. Within and hour or so drive to so many destinations. Volcano national park, etc. It's impossible to describe the beauty of the sunsets in the evening we saw from the lanai. Make sure you stop at the many road side fruit stands. From the lanai, we saw fish jumping and spouting whales as well. The beds are So Comfortable. Couple that with the sound of the ocean at night, and a great night's sleep is the norm. I recommend studying the history of the area which will add to the beauty and intrigue of the area. You will definitely need to rent a car. I recommend a 4 wheel drive (not necessary to get to the house), based on where you decide to visit on the island. We can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was. This made for the honeymoon of a lifetime. Thank you Elaine. We truly appreciate you and this beautiful property.

February 2015
We stayed in this beautiful house for five days and it was great! It is huge and has everything you could need. There are kayaks and other water toys (we did not use them, but they are there) and the ocean is right at the edge of the property. It is not a beach, but a rocky cliff (about 20 or 30 feet down). At night the waves pound the cliff and you not only hear the waves and smell the sea air, but you feel the slight vibrations of the waves hitting the lava that the house is sitting on. It was so soothing to sleep with the sounds of the ocean lulling us to sleep at night. This is not a resort that pampers tourists, but a real neighborhood. This is a fishing village and you will see the fishermen going out every day in their boats. One night on our way to the house, there were two guys fire dancing on the road. It was very cool to see them doing it for their own enjoyment and not to entertain anyone else (although we were entertained). You need to make sure that you have everything before you are in for the night, because it is kind of rural and stores are not open very late (10 pm I think). The house is huge and well stocked. All the items you need to make a very nice temporary home. Beds are super comfortable and the bathrooms and large and nice. We did not use the downstairs bedroom or bathroom, but they seemed fine for an extra. The washer and dryer were adequate for our needs and cost $2 per wash and dry. They are large, so we only had to do a few loads. Water is on a catchment system, which was fine with us, but you probably want to make sure you bring bottled water to drink. So in short, this place is amazing if you want a very peaceful authentic Hawaiian experience.
