This is a beautiful jewel of a house. It's all one level and close to shopping, activities such as hiking, biking, zip lines, farm tours, horseback riding, art school, dining and Haleakala National Park. Just an eight to ten minute drive to white sand beaches.
This 20-acre shade-grown coffee plantation borders a forest preserve and is completely private. A stream runs through the property year-round attracting a variety of wildlife. There are amazing panoramic ocean, jungle and mountain views and a seasonal waterfall view. Guests have the option of booking a personal tour of the farm and grounds which includes a short hike to see the ancient Hawaiian pictographs, an artesian spring and gives an overview where all the private trails, natural pools and picnic areas are. Reservations include full access to all the grounds and amenities on the farm. The cottage is located over a half mile from the main farmhouse and is completely private. It includes:
30 Mbps Wi-Fi, W/D and Detergent, Barbecue with Charcoal and Kiawe Wood provided, Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Range, Microwave, Juicer, Blender, Toaster Oven and Pour-Over and French Press Coffee equipment provided. There is a spacious shower with ocean view. Hair Dryer, Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash Provided. Fully furnished with King-sized bed with Queen Sofa Bed. Cable Smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime. Iron and Ironing Board. Beach Towels, Beach Chairs and Cooler Provided. Flower cutting, Fruit and Herb picking (seasonal) privileges included. Plenty of secure parking.
Close to shopping and North Shore beaches. A bag of fresh roasted Maliko Estate Coffee is provided as well as fruit (when available) and fresh flowers from the farm.
Optional (additional fee):
Historical/Jungle tour: 2 hours and includes an overview of all the trails on the private grounds, archeological sites, the history of the valley and the medicinal uses of the jungle plants. $75.00 per person.
Organic farm and pesticide free area for those with sensitivities. All one level for those with some mobility issues. Not wheelchair accessible though!

Guests have access to miles of private trails on the grounds of Maliko Estate Coffee where the cottage is located. Swimming in the year-round stream is a highlight. Great bird watching too!

Guests are greeted upon arrival, offered a jungle tour and are bid farewell on departure day too. Owners are nearby if they're needed and have advice and recommendations for Maui activities.

The historic paniolo town of Makawao is only 2 miles away. The paniolo are the Hawaiian cowboys and they still can be seen riding their horses or stopping by the local cantinas for a beer after riding the upcountry ranches. Great shopping and dining is found in Makawao, Haiku and nearby Paia. Makawao is considered one of the best art scenes in the nation.

You will definitely need a car. You won't need a four-wheel drive though. The roads are fine. There is bus transportation but not near the farm which is too rural and uncrowded for a bus stop.

The cabin comes equipped with a koi pond and two resident koi named Lilo and Stitch. Guests are asked to feed them. They'll remind you themselves if you forget!

Owner Sydney Smith is a designer by trade and also a farmer. She is the president of the Maui Coffee Association and a board member of the Maui County Ag Working Group.

Wonderful cottage, incredible views, gracous host in a gorgeous part of the Maui upcountry. The setting on the organic coffee farm, on top of a ridge, overlooking a beautiful valley and across to the pacific is breathtaking. The host is a superb communicator and generously offered a tour of her magical farm. This was a wonderful experience and helped make our first visit to Maui unforgettable. Highly recommend this lovely cabin.

The cottage was perfect for a couple. Kitchen was stocked with useful items to allow cooking and eating on site. Sydney was a great host and communicated with us through the tsunami scare in August 2025. She was even gracious enough to let us have additional family members over during the evacuation, as they were staying at a resort on the coast. The land is lovely, and the story of how she and her husband have rehabilitated it into what it is today is inspiring. Our only minor gripes were proximity to a semi-busy road and lack of A/C, but our 3 nights here were the highlight of our whole 2 week Hawaii trip. We would definitely stay again. Mahalo, Sydney!

We had a fantastic stay in this cozy bungalow. The views are amazing and the decor was lovely. We saw deer walking a trail right underneath the deck and of course there are lots of chickens and roosters! The tour of the property was very beautiful and informative Would definitely stay here when visiting Maui again. Thank you so much Sydney!

Just a wonderful spot away from hustle and bustle. Cabin has a thoughtful and personalized style that makes home rentals so special. Sydney gave us an incredible tour of the property and the knowledge and care she displayed is very commendable. An incredible view off the deck let us watch the weather every morning and evening. We would come back for sure.

The cabin was clean, comfortable, and quiet, with a stunning view from the balcony, and beautiful grounds. It is centrally located, offering easy access to many of Maui's activities, including Haleakala National Park and the road to Hana. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat in a picturesque location, it would be hard to beat this!

Beautiful mountaintop view all the way to the ocean, no need for AC with cool tradewinds. The location takes you easily to the Road to Hana or to Haleakala National Park. Super clean and well appointed, charming decor loved it!

We love staying in the Paia area and usually stay closer to the ocean. This booking was a short one, so we thought we would try something different. It was an excellent choice. great views, up country living, sounds of roosters, birds, butterflies. The host was very responsive and even offered to take us on a brief tour. A special place and when we come back to Maui will will stay again.

The coffee cabin was perfect for our short stay in upcountry Maui. The location was amazing & peaceful, and it was the perfect size for 4 people. Sydney is a great host, and the included local fruit/coffee, personal tour & access to the swimming holes were a wonderful addition to our stay. I highly recommend Sydney’s cabin to anyone looking to stay in upcountry Maui!

Home and owner are simply amazing! The house is thoughtfully stocked, spotlessly clean, and located on the most amazing and indescribable land. You will never get the chance to see and hike a space like this in total privacy, don’t miss out on that. Sydney was incredibly kind and helpful before and during our stay. Hand down our favorite stay on the island!!!

We spent 5 nights in the jungle and enjoyed the whole range of Maui weather, wind, rain, thunder (!), sun, warm, perfection. Sidney’s unit is very unique and almost perfect for everything we wanted. Peace and quiet, weather excluded, we lived it with our tour starting us off. Such amazing property, hikes, swims, collecting avocados and lilikoi, plus more. Sidney is the perfect host/historian/treasure chest of knowledge. Her tour of the property includes 30 years of history of the area, plus so much more. She was on to of all of our questions, ready just in case the power went off, and there at the send of a text. We felt cared for. The house was just what we needed. Great size kitchen, easy to clean up after one of our dinner projects, the grill was ready, the coffee, (following Sidney’s carefully laid out process) was great. We saw where the beans grew…a first for us. We will return ASAP….. Bill and Catherine

The home itself was clean and functional with an astounding array of artistic details created by the owners. The view was also wonderful and we were gifted a rainstorm and waterfall! Our host Sydney even gave us a tour and a bag of her estate-grown coffee. We are so grateful for this unique and powerful experience of Maui. Thank you, Sydney!

My husband and I wanted a quiet place in the mountains to get away, and boy did we find it. The property is one of a kind and has an immense amount of history that you won't find anywhere else. Perfect for couples! The host Sydney was amazing. Couldn't recommend higher.

The cabin is a comfortable, cozy retreat with a killer view of jungle and ocean. Everything inside is designed to help you relax and unwind -- big roomy sofa, well-stocked kitchen with high-end appliances, king size bed. The wrap around porch is perfect for morning coffee, reading a book all day, or evening cocktails. And the tour of the property was beyond anything we imagined. This is historically-important land nurtured to lushness by Sydney and her husband. The surprises they have found are amazing. Be sure to see the 200 year old Mango tree and the petroglyphs. We hope to return soon!

The property is truly amazing! Through the tour we learned all about the history of the property and got to see some incredible plants. As you would expect, jungle wildlife (geckos and mosquitoes) are present but they are generally friendly!

My husband and I had an amazing stay. The zen-like cabin was amazing and just what we needed. Sydney's (owner) attention to detail was not lost on us...from the natural river rock shower to the creative inlaid tiles in the kitchen...so many eclectic and enchanting finds with the expansive view as a back drop. Sydney took us on a tour of the coffee farm and it was the highlight of our Maui trip. The welcoming host, lush landscape, petroglyphs and peaceful atmosphere...well, we didn't want to leave! We not only had a relaxing vacation but we feel we have a new friend. We will be back!

The house was very clean and set up well for our stay. Lovely kitchen and surrounding deck. Loved the expansive view and surround sound of the forest birds. Sydney provided an excellent tour and history of the island. Too bad the drought has dried up the waterfall on the property. Very convenient access to the Road to Hana sights and upcountry area.

April 2022
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this beautiful cottage. It was located in a wonderful spot for bird watching and enjoying the sounds of nature. The property was a great adventure visiting the petroglyphs, stream and wonderful old trees. It was especially interesting after the tour given by the owner Sydney who is incredibly knowledgeable of the area and Hawaiian culture. Sydney is a great host. She is always available for questions and ready to help. This was our last stop in our three island adventure and it was the perfect way to conclude and wonderful visit to Hawaii. We certainly hope to be back in the next two years and would love to stay in the cottage again.

We LOVED this property. The land is gorgeous and a labour of love by Sydney and her husband. Take a tour with her! The home itself is beautifully and thoughtfully appointed. We had everything we needed and more as all the details are thought through (like extra sunscreen). Comfortable beds. The coffee and honey made on site is great. Are you guys both done let’s finish up yeah but you’re done yourAmazing view!! We will absolutely come back! Thank you, Sydney.

January 2022
We had a great experience here! I highly recommend taking a tour of the property. It’s a unique experience. This is the perfect location if you want to explore Maui. It’s away from the super touristy sections but very easy to get on the Road to Hana or to head south on the island. Sydney was a great host and very easy to communicate with

We really enjoyed our way-too-fast 9 nights at this lovely property over Christmas. Sydney is a fascinating individual - talking to her for a couple hours is something I will remember for decades to come! The property is an astonishingly large estate (coffee farm) - you literally need the map so as to not get lost over these 25+ acres! There is just something incredibly satisfying about picking an orange from a tree and immediately eating it. The cabin itself was great - a lot of attention to detail here on her part. The best-equipped kitchen I have ever seen in a short-term rental. Boogie boards to borrow. Various kitchen condiments - so we did not have to go out and buy them. Great advice from her on local restaurants and groceries. My advice is to start literally every morning with a 45-minute stroll around the grounds - after a nice cup of coffee on the lanai while overlooking the waterfall and Pacific Ocean. She might laugh that I am writing this - but the most striking (revealing) thing to me about Sydney and her husband is the utterly basic mailbox their own marvelous house has many hundreds of yards away at the roadside - it looks like it cost maybe max $25 and must have 25 years of rust on it (?); I just loved this as a symbol of the kind of old-school Hawaiian modesty that she and her husband exude! In my neighborhood in suburban Atlanta, someone would surely make a fuss about such a "crappy" mailbox. Just a great stay on a lovely Maui trip! Saying 5-stars just does not do this place justice!

We stay in Maui every year but always ocean front. This was a wonderful break from routine! The cabin is lovely set in the Maui rainforest but still a close drive to some of the best beaches on island. I highly recommend staying here for at least part of your vacation!

Usually our Maui stays default to oceanside stays. This time, we shook things up and stayed with Sydney on her coffee plantation. WOW! At night, after an evening of cocktails on the lanai watching the sun go down behind the West Maui mountains, the birds serenaded us to sleep. The property is gorgeous and Sydney's passion for the heritage & history of it is apparent. The cottage was well-equipped, her coffee delectable, the honey divine. And, we were just 5 minutes from Makawao shopping (and I did) and mountain bike trails (and hubby did). Sydney was super helpful with local resources and very responsive to questions before & during our trip. We will be returning in 2022!

We loved our stay at Sydney’s cottage, immersed in the natural setting of a Maui coffee plantation. We were very impressed with the story of how this property and land were reclaimed and rejuvenated. Sydney was a great host who gave us an interesting tour of the property and it’s natural features.

Sydney was an amazing hostess. She was there to greet us and she was readily available if we needed something. She had first hand knowledge of the events happening around the cabin and where to go locally! Their cabin was located away from all the tourists, it was convenient to drive to the beach or the volcano 🌋. The island was lush, friendly and full of amazing food and people. Sydney’s place had mangoes, avacadoes, coffee and flowers of beauty. She had all the amenities of home and everything you would need for the beach. The cabin did not have air conditioning or mosquito netting outside so be prepared for that. You will be down on the equator. Maui was so beautiful I am glad I was able to take this vacation and stay in Makawao. It was a perfect location for us and their coffee is delicious! Thank you Sydney for sharing your beautiful space with us!🏝 ☕️ ❤️

August 2019
This lovely cabin is perfect for 2 people. Location is excellent, very quiet upcountry but near nice beaches and towns (Paia, Makawao...) and not far Haleakalā.... At the other end of the property there is another house (bigger one) which is also very nice (if you are more than 2 people). Owner take time to show us the whole property and explain us it history. Sydney is so nice and friendly... We hope to be back !

In a trip that had us stay on three different islands and in three different rental properties, this one was the best. The location is perfect and the cabin itself was perfect. My only regret was only staying for three nights, I really wish we could have stayed longer. I hope that this will not be our only trip to Maui and that we will be able to stay here again.

July 2019
The coffee cabin was such a different experience for our family who have been coming to Maui every year, the last 7 years. We always stay in Ka’anapali but decided to try upcountry on the front end of our stay. So glad we did! It was so relaxing and the views are amazing. So much nature and Syd’s, the owner, property if full of history and really beautiful. Recommend Syd’s property tour too. She is so knowledgeable and has worked so hard to restore and take care of the land. She is a wonderful person. Thank you Syd, we will for sure be back!!

June 2019
I was fortunate to have found Sydney's rental after my original option cancelled. This amazing cottage is nestled away from the busy towns, but minutes away from major roads to get you into town. We used this location as the Eastern base for our Maui adventures including Road to Hana and Mt Haleakala. Everything about the cottage was lovely. Every sunset was consistently beautiful going over the mountain and ocean. Waking up every morning and drinking coffee on the patio staring at mother nature. I will be staying here again next year or maybe upgrade to her 2br across the hill. Mahalo for the hospitality!

June 2019
We had wanted to spend more time in upcountry Maui, and staying in the Maliko coffee cottage was a great way to do this. We were close to good hiking and Haleakala crater and just a few minutes from excellent food and the beach. Syd was an exceptionally cordial host, and we loved the tour of the coffee farm which is not like anything we could have imagined. Picture a forest with coffee trees planted in the understory, plus a gorge and banyan trees growing down the sides of a cliff and a stream and pools. From the cottage we had views looking down at the jungle, and over the trees we could see the beach and ocean, and there was a giant rainbow across the gorge on the morning we left. The cottage is close to a road with potholes, so you can hear road traffic (the other larger cabin on this property is located farther inland and is probably quieter), but you're just a few minutes from Makawao and Haiku. We really loved our upcountry experience. Mahalo nui loa, Sydney!

May 2019
We've been fortunate to travel the world and venture into some fairly exotic places, but our cabin nestled in the Maliko Estates was one of the most memorable experiences ever. It's almost like Fantasy Island with Sydney as your magical guide, sprinkling fairy dust and evoking spirits. I mean, who gets their own private waterfalls, natural springs, hiking trails, ancient Hawaiian birthing pool complete with cave pictographs, etc. (there's more) - in Maui?! We did, because we were fortunate enough to be led to this incredible and powerful place. I am being completely serious when I say that when you stay in one of Sydney's cabins it's almost like entering an alternate reality where the rest of the world simply falls away and you can just... be. Total relaxation doesn't even begin to describe it. So thank you, thank you, thank you Sydney for sharing your slice of heaven with the rest of us. We look forward to our next visit!

This cabin offered so much with the view, on property vigorous hikes, great porches and comforts of home. The greater area offers several town groceries, restaurants and jam up beaches. Indelible memories from our visit, intent to return.

This place is absolutely beautiful! Wonderful deck with views of the waterfall, ocean, and rainbows! Very clean, nicely appointed kitchen, washer and dryer, easy parking. March 2019
Sydney is a wonderful host and provided not only a wonderful stay but fresh eggs, coffee, and fruit! The private cabin was perfect with amazing sunsets as well as views of the waterfall and coast. Geckos and other lizard friends will keep you company as you unwind on the deck. Hiking on the property is good with many natural pools and waterfalls to play in. The bathroom is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, soap, and a hair dryer. There are plenty of linens and towels (including beach towels). If you want to go to the beach, Sydney has chairs, boogie boards, and a cooler at the cabin. You'll find the kitchen well stocked for meals if you don't want to drive the short distance to Paia. This was my 3rd time to the island and I'll definitely be booking here for my next trip!

September 2018
The whole experience is magical: the original and unique cottage with very interesting decor, and the surroundings peaceful and relaxing. Away from the maddening crowd and the cacophony of the usual city environment. You get to live in a secluded jungle, yet close to everything you need. The surroundings are beautiful and the views breathtaking. Our host, Sydney, is very kind, helpful, and always there whenever you need advice, help, or assistance of any kind. It is really hard to use just few words to describe the wonders of the stay at the cottage - the best I can express is that we got much more of the stay than we expected. Highly recommended for these that, like us, were looking for a Maui vacation place far from noisy and crowded classic resort atmosphere. Thank you, Sydney!:)

September 2018
We arrived in Maui just ahead of hurricane Lane. Sydney was great about giving us updates and reassuring us. During our three days in Makawao we received a tremendous amount of rain, but the cabin is located on high ground with a cool waterfall view. The waterfall turned into a torrent and the deck of the cabin was a great place to view the storm. All things considered, the weather gave us an opportunity to relax with a few breaks in the rain to go out exploring. We will definitely stay here on our next visit to Maui!

July 2018
I can’t say anything bad about this house. The location was fantastic as was the view and the house was so great. Totally a relaxing environment. You definitely leave refreshed. Loved hiking to the stream on property. Sydney’s tour of the property was a great way to get some feel of the history of Hawaii and some of the plants. Sydney’s coffee was some of the best we have ever had! Overall, I would recommend this to everyone I know and would love to stay again.

Every part of our experience at this property and island were wonderful. The location is central to every Maui must see. The property owners really go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need. We can’t wait to go back.

July 2018
My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Maliko Coffee Cabin and 5 nights at the Ritz Carlton. We both greatly preferred the Cabin! It is such a unique experience to be able to stay in the rain forest and so extremely peaceful and relaxing. Syd is a fantastic hostess and spent all the time we wanted showing us not only the cabin but the hiking trails, streams, and plantlife all around the property. Walking down by the stream you feel a bit like Indiana Jones with the high bluffs, rain forest vegetation, and sunlight streaming in through the haze. We learned a ton about Hawaiian plants and animals, sampled some freshly fallen nuts, and edible flowers. Overall our time at the cabin was perfect as it was a great starting point for everything on the East side of the island and gave us ample opportunity to lay around in the rain forest setting when we wanted to relax. When we decided to go out exploring we were just minutes from the Road to Hana, great little towns like Paia, beaches with turtles, the Saturday Farmers Market, and so much more. Thank you Sydney for sharing your property with us!

July 2018
This place felt so cozy and the view off the back deck is beautiful! Plus, Sydney was great to rent from. When we told her that we arrived, she drove up in her gator to greet us. Then, gave us a detailed tour of the home and the rest of her property and trails. It was so great to hear and see the historical info on the property. And, i loved seeing so many unique trees and plants! It's such a great little cabin too. The breezes and fans kept us cool. And, she had coffee and different types of coffee makers for us. Plus, you can feed a couple of koi fish and lay down in the hammock downstairs. You can also walk or drive right down the street to this cute little place called The Secret Garden. I loved that place. Thanks Sydney for your wonderful hospitality! - Bev

June 2018
The cabin and surrounding grounds were as described and more. Even the drive home from the beach every day was unstressful and beautiful. There are beautiful hikes right out the front door. The amenities provided were more than generous. It was the perfect place to stay while vacationing

May 2018
The cabin is beautifully appointed with great personal touches that belie the owners’ passion for their properties. Sydney provides a great history on how the property came to be; be sure you get that as well as a tour of the property itself. The views are amazing and the location is ideal for getting to know Maui beyond the resort communities. So many great shops and enticing eateries within a few minutes drive. Don’t forget to purchase a bag or two of coffee to take home; it is well worth it.

Sydney was a gracious host and helped us with all our needs we really enjoyed the tour of her property. We will definitely go back!

March 2017
The amazing cottage is just the beginning - wait until you tour the property! What a privilege to experience the splendour of waterfalls creating natural pools for swimming, a view of forever from the lanai, birdsong that fills the entire valley morning and evening, and the most amazing shower made of stone from the riverbed below! Sydney is a gracious and attentive hostess who has humbly done the work of restoring and improving this property so it can be honoured and enjoyed by many. I was sad to leave...
