Overall fantastic time at this condo. It was overwhelmed booking as there are so many options for this area however our choice was perfect. The condo is clean and up to date with everything you need.
The property is fantastic with a resort feel including many pools, a waterslide, and more. The restaurant on site (Dukes) is a proper stand alone restaurant and not just a hotel bolt on.
Very family first feeling and I'm sure couples would still have a great time.
We would stay here again if returning to Maui.

Our family of 5 loved our time here. In fact the morning we left I found my 8 yr old hiding in the kitchen crying because he didn’t want to leave. It had everything we needed. Perfect beach, perfect location, everything we could ask for in our room. We have already started talking about going back.

The property is amazing with multiple pools and hot tubs, beautiful grounds, full service onsite restaurant, beach access and more. Loved the location, the condo was clean and well equipped. Made use of in condo washer/dryer. Beds, pillows and bedding were very comfortable including the pull out sofa. Enjoyed coffee and beautiful views from the private balcony. Walked on the boardwalk daily, and enjoyed many of the other amenities within walking distance. Would highly recommend based on our experience.

We were very familiar with this property as some of our friends have stayed here and I found that the whole process was super easy. The booking was simple and shortly after booking, I received several emails preparing us for our stay. Communication was very easy as well and even surprised us with an early check-in. The room itself had everything we needed and provided us (2 couples) with more than enough room. The only thing I could say that wasn't even in their control was the property had painters on our Lanai so we were not able to use any of the patio furniture. Again, nothing the property management could do. Would stay here again with our boys for sure!

Lovely view of the mountain/green space. Well maintained with all the amenities you need. Beach chairs and boogie boards a nice bonus.
Nice big balcony for eating outside.
Grocery store and food trucks 2 min walk from complex.
Resort itself is well maintained - only downside is villas and 2 huge condo units have access to 3 pools. Very limited access to lounge chairs - the resort has lots of signs that say "not to reserve chairs" but towels on every chair with no one on it.
Close drive to whaler's village and hotels/restaurants along the strip.

Five star place. If we ever return to Maui, this is the place we will choose again for our stay. We spent 10 in Maui of which 5 days at Kaanapali and although it was great to explore and stay at different parts of the island, this place was absolute our favourite and we could easily just stay here for the entire time, which we will next time :)

The place was absolutely perfect for our family of 5. Morning coffee and ending the day on the lanai with a nice warm breeze. Beautiful view on the quieter side of the resort. The place was spacious with everything ready to go for our family. The pools are well spread out with a nice common grill area next to Duke’s. Short walk to the beach and the kids used the boogie boards that were provided. We will be back!

The den was perfect for the kids!
After a fun day at the pool, beach or exploring the island the kids had a their ownplace to rest, watch TV, playgames and recharge.
Relaxing waterfall and mountain views from the balcony.
Great open floorplan gave mom and dad quiet time and the family room to spread out.
Managment company and owners live on Maui and shared great "local" info.
Nice to be welcomed with a smile and have a personl helper to answer your questions and learn about the resort.
Maui is our favorite Hawaii island.
This is now our favorite resort and condo for our Maui vacations!

Condo 312 was perfect for my family. Barb, the owner, met us when we arrived and escorted us to our unit. She gave us a brief overview of the condo. Before coming to Maui we stayed 7 days at Ko Olina resort which was also great. Honua Kai resort had some extra features that Ko Olina didn't offer. They had a restaurant on the property, a water slide for the kids and a place to rent snorkeling gear.
The kitchen was nicely appointed with everything needed to cook including spices. The bed was very comfortable and the washer and dyer came in handy.There was also beach chairs and boogie boards. Although it was windy, It really didn't bother us. It was a constant,gentle breeze that allowed us to sleep with the patio doors open. The ocean had a lot of coral which made it difficult to walk .Wearing water shoes is recommended. Our deposit was return within two weeks. Our entire stay at the resort was great and we hope to return sometime in the near future.

We spent nine nights here at the end of May and had a fantastic time! The suite was exactly as pictured on VRBO and it was perfect for our family of four. Our four year old enjoyed sleeping in "his room" on the pull out couch in the den, and the play pen provided for our 18 month old was clean and in good condition. Barb was great, meeting us really late (she even called us to check that we had arrived ok because it was so late at night) and bringing along some extra pool toys that she thought might be suitable for our boys. We were impressed with the pools, the access to the beautiful beach was quick and easy, and the whole resort was beautiful and well maintained. We appreciated the convenience of the Aina Market and Duke's too. We will definitely come back!

My family of four stayed in this unit for 3 weeks in February and we couldn't be happier with the condo and hotel property. Anyone nervous about renting through vrbo doesn't need to be with Barb and Walt. They answered every question I had before we arrived, then Barb met us at the property for check in and even arranged for the concierge to bring up our bags and Costco groceries! This is a well run rental operation.
The Honua Kai is top rate for amenities - numerous pools, restaurant, great beach and well-kept buildings and grounds. The location is fabulous, close to a grocery store and a great jumping off point for touring the island. The only thing the hotel doesn't have is lounge chairs on the beach but this unit comes with back pack style lawn chairs that you can use and they came in handy. The unit itself is spacious and the den was perfect for using as a bedroom for our 2 little boys (word of caution though, an adult may find the pull out beds uncomfortable, as with all pullouts, the mattress is pretty thin). The bathroom is absolutely enormous and really nicely finished. The patio doors are amazing, every day we would would come back from the beach and open up those doors to bring the fresh air and great view of the mountains into the room. Every amenity that you can think of to get you through the first days is stocked in the unit (coffee, laundry soap, even shampoo) and it even comes with beach towel cards (which really cuts down on the laundry). We will definitely be back.

My only recommendation would be to pay extra for housekeeping. It is not included in rental price. The garbage drop is far from unit. So if you want a vacation without housework, be sure to make arrangements ahead of time.

This Honua Kai unit is a great value if you want the amenities that this property has to offer without paying over the top prices. It was great for traveling with an infant but there are definitely a couple constructive criticisms that the owners should address- like any property it's not perfect but it's pretty close!

We just got back from 10 amazing days in Maui. Renting from Barb and Walt was so easy. From the moment we booked the unit until we came home all of our needs were met. The unit had everything we needed...beach chairs, boogie boards and even sand toys!! Barb and Walt also were able to accommodate our late departure time. We can't wait to come back to Maui and will definitely rent from Barb and Walt again.

Staying here was a wonderful experience we had from start to finish. The rental arrangements went smoothly and when we arrived Barb and Walt met us at the lobby and made us feel at home right away. Barb answered all of our questions and gave us some good ideas for our stay. She was so helpful and attentive - she is on site most of the time - so if you need anything she is just a phone call away. I just can't say enough wonderful things about Barb and Walt - they really made us feel like family - not just renters!
The condo exceeded our expectations. The size is perfect for a family of five and less expensive than renting a 2 bedroom. Don't worry about it not being an ocean view because the view from the condo is incredible. There is a large lanai with a view of a waterfall, beautiful grounds, and sweeping mountains in the background. Each morning you can watch the sunrise over the mountains...what a treat! The condo has everything you need - we cooked a lot of our meals there and I was impressed at how well the kitchen was stocked. They also have beach supplies - sand toys, chairs, boogie boards and floaties for the pool.
The resort is so lush and beautiful with pools and hot tubs winding throughout integrated with waterfalls and amazing plants and trees. Having Dukes on the property is a nice treat too - we loved the 'Aloha Hour' from 3-5pm with great drink and appetizer (pupu) specials! The location is great - the beach has a nice reef area that you can snorkel right there. The kids did plenty of swimming and boogie boarding on the beach there too.
We had a wonderful time and will hopefully be returning soon & recommending renting from Barb & Walt to our friends! Mahalo!!

I booked my parents to stay in this unit from Dec 8th to 18th, 2011 to celebrate their 45th Wedding Anniversary. The rest of the family (9 os us including 3 small children) stayed in another unit on the property. This allowed my parents to have a little "escape" from the activity of us kids and the grandchildren. The LOVED their stay in this one bedroom/den unit. It had everything they needed. A fully stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, tv's in the bedroom, den and living room and a huge lanai with an amazing view to have morning coffee on. They felt they were staying in a gorgeous luxurious little home away from home. They loved the mountain views and the large doors that opened up on the lanai. It was so easy to secure our booking of this unit as Barbabra and Walt responded to my emails so quickly. The property is gorgeous with 3 pools, many hot tubs, "Dukes" right near the pools to order lunch and drinks from (at a reasonable price I might add) and beautiful grounds. "Times Market" is nice and close so easy to walk over to pick up a few groceries. My parents would love to go back to the resort and we will be sure to book into this unit again!! Our family of five from Sydney (children aged 4, 6 and 8) had a fantastic week in Walt and Barb's condo. The children all slept in the Den room - they loved watching the tv in there at bed time - so the extra space worked very well for us. The condo has everything you need, the resort is great, the pools fantastic, Dukes superb and we loved our week on Maui. There is a supermarket right across the road so all very easy if you want to eat in. We booked from Sydney and Walt and Barb were always very quick to respond and we had no problem arranging payment etc. The condo looks as good as in the photos if not better. The lanai is great and we used it a lot. No ocean view but the outlook was very pleasant and private.
Go and have a fab time!
PS we also used Happy Kids Babysitting services a number of times and were very happy with the sitter.
