Overall a lovely place next to a bucolic stream. We did have an issue with check-in but the host was super responsive. Other things to note? Roosters in the area and this is common for Hawaii, but just be aware they crow early. More specific to this property is there are dogs that bark a lot.

The physical house was fine. The hosts were accommodating. However, a close neighbor near the house has a pack of dogs who are left outside and who bark throughout the night. It seems like there are at least five dogs and barking and howling are not conducive to sleeping. Windows have to be open because of the heat and humidity.

This was a great place to stay for our family!The house is very comfortable and the location is out of the way. There was some noise of dogs barking and of course roosters but it wasn’t a major problem for us. The property manager and the host both responded to a check in issue. We enjoyed walking to the nearby coffee shop and store, and to the beach. Overall this was a great home for our family and made our trip a memorable one!

We had an issue with the phone and they were so helpful in getting it resolved for us quickly. The house is in such an amazing location for relaxing and we spent a lot of time on the lanai. The dogs were an issue. There was no rhyme or reason to when they would get set off and at times they were really loud. It did upset the vibe.

The Treehouse is an absolute gem. We loved staying here, it felt like home. The house was clean and quiet. We did notice the treehouse effect of slight swaying (since it is raised). We had everything we needed right in Hanalei. But found it very easy to also go on our tours across the island. The house was such a cozy and peaceful place to come back to after a day of adventures. The kitchen had everything but the groceries stocked. Laundry was great to have. And we made use of the grill by enjoying some locally fresh caught Marlin and Swordfish! We had read reviews about the dogs. The neighbor does have dogs that bark, but honestly the ones in my neighborhood at home are the same. And while there, we felt part of the neighborhood. We walked to The Haven and the market just down the road. There are so many beaches to visit, and the stars at night are amazing! One of our kayak tours was canceled unexpectedly, so we made our way back to the house and kayaked the river to the beach, it was fantastic.Our daughter loved the surfboard room. The master bedroom is so spacious and comfortable. Our friend stayed in the “beach” room and loved the breeze coming off the mountains. It was a magical stay and we hope to be back. My son and daughter and I loved it. We loved the solitude and the being away from the crowds. It was a little scary trying to make that turn before the bridges when we weren't really expecting it. We loved all the beautiful landscaping with all the gorgeous plants and flowers and the stream right outside. Loved the lanai. That's where we our meals every day.It was a little disconcerting to feel the house shake the first time when a big truck went down the road on the other side of the stream. We thought we had avoided the tsunami, just in time for an earthquake....then we realized it was one of the unexpected experiences of staying in a home on stilts. Loved the going down to the beach about 5 minutes away and watching the sunrise over the ocean....magical!

Great location for a quiet getaway in the jungle, while still having great access to the beaches and town in Hanalei. We really enjoyed sleeping in the trees, along the relaxing stream. Like everyone else on the island, we had a scare with the tsunami warning. Our property manager reached out to make sure we were OK and then helped with other arrangements during the evacuation- couldn’t ask for better support than she provided. There’s a great breeze in the house and wonderful landscaping.

We really enjoyed staying at the Kauai Treehouse. It was close to our favorite beach for snorkeling, Tunnels. Everything was very accommodating inside: comfy beds; great appliances (e.g., washer and dryer); abundant towels; well appointed kitchen; etc. It had everything we needed, in a lush, tropical setting. And everything was immaculately clean. The only drawback isn't the owner's fault, but rather, the neighbors: the dogs. As other reviewers have noted, the next door dogs bark for extended and unpredictable periods. The dogs are clearly in distress, maybe even agony. We suspect they are caged. The barking disturbed our quiet and even our sleep. I don't know what can be done, but it is a liability of an otherwise wonderful property. (the roosters are another matter, and that's a Kauai-wide problem).

We were thrilled we heard about The Treehouse for our Kauai stay! We had so much space and amenities for our family of 6! The proximity to Hanalei and Tunnels Beach was amazing. We loved how secluded our house was and enjoyed feeling like we lived in the trees! There were lots of towels and beach gear. We floated to the beach using the river and enjoyed jumping in the fresh water after a salty beach day! A balcony off every room and two refrigerators were just a bonus! We loved playing games together on the screened in lanai every night! All of us were sad to leave!

I'll start with the challenges.1) This home has no AC. It gets warm during the day.2) The dogs across the river don't have an off button.3) The road can be loud at times.Go into this with those things accepted and you will find our FAVORITE spot on Kauai to date. The home is beautiful, it's bright and airy. You ARE in nature. The landscaping is thoughtful, and there was plenty of space for our family of five.Every window is screened, there are smart TV's and good wifi. Best of all? This home is about as far NW as you can get. The beaches are pristine and nearly empty compared to the ones elsewhere on the island. The coffee shop down the street was a delight. Getting into the driveway from the North is a bit of a challenge (go past it, turn around, then make your way in).Highly recommended.

My family’s experience in the treehouse was pretty amazing! We enjoyed nine nights and nine beautiful days in the Hanalei area and beyond. There were five of us total. The three bedrooms accommodated us well. If you enjoy waking up with daylight rising right outside your lanai, then I would definitely choose the surf room. If you prefer to sleep in a little longer, you might consider the other two bedrooms. There were 26 steps to climb to reach the front door, and I enjoyed every single one of them. I especially loved hearing the bullfrogs at night. One day I decided to ask Google how to describe the sound that bullfrogs make. My answer was confusing and a little silly. Google answered “ Jug of rum“ there was no way I could ever make “jug of rum” out of their songs at night! The singing birds were an added attraction . The roosters were active pretty much all night, but it really didn’t bother any of us. The beds were comfortable. The master bathroom shower was amazing! The cleanliness could’ve been upped a little, but I guess everybody has their own ideas of cleanliness. We were also a little surprised that we had no sauce pans in the kitchen and the kitchen refrigerator was not working properly causing us to lose some food items, however there was a working fridge on the lanai. All in all, it was the best Hawaii trip of the family thus far. And I think everyone would agree with me.

The house was very comfortable, functional, and kitchen was well equipped. Enjoyed the location and north shore activities, people, and beaches.While somewhat remote the neighborhood was noisy. Several dogs nearby barked often throughout the day and night. You could hear traffic crossing the nearby bridges. That was our only comcern.

Staying in the Kauai Tree House definitely gives you a taste of island living. The house is on a beautiful property and the house itself is very nice. The layout was perfect for my husband and I and our 2 kids, 20 and 16. The master suite is on the opposite end of the house than the other two bedrooms. The beds are super comfortable and we did sleep well for the most part. There are hunting dogs near the house and they can make a lot of noise, but we used a white noise app and that helped a lot.
The house was clean, for the most part. There are geckos and they do get into the house which didn't bother us, but you can definitely see where they hang out the most in the master bedroom. There were a few corners of the room that really needed to be cleaned.
The geckos don't bother you and they eat the bugs so that's a plus! They also make cute chirping noises. So if you don't mind nature then this is a great place for you. I will miss morning coffee on the screened lanai and bird watching
There are great beach chairs, beach umbrella and snorkeling gear at the house for renters to use.
The kitchen is stocked pretty well with plates and bowls, pots and pans cooking utensils and storage containers.
The one thing we didn't have was cleaning supplies. We did have liquid dish detergent and some washing machine pods but no dishwasher pods or antibacterial wipes or spray so we bought some to use while there.
We enjoyed the house and loved Kauai We hope to be back soon!

This is a very nice house. Every bedroom has a nice deck off of it. The trees around the house are beautiful. There are lots of songbirds in the trees. There is a river that flows through the backyard. It is not a busy location which was nice. The washing machine did not work which was a bummer. It is also very noisy at night. The many dogs next door bark late into the night and the multiple wild roosters start crowing at 3AM and don't stop until late late morning. I have heard that this is fairly common in Hawaii but you should bring earplugs.

Overall our stay was wonderful. A couple notes for future renters.
1) You will either need to walk down the road or provide your own flotation devices to get to the beach referenced in the listing.
2) Dog barking happens all the time. It is was it is, and was on the same level of the roosters crowing at 3am.
3) There is no air conditioning. This was not an issue for us during our stay, but if it’s a must for you I would encourage a different booking.

We had to ask manager to have someone come clean the floors after we got there and my wife still had to clean the closet and areas because they were still very dirty.
There are only 6 plates and bowls. So if you stay with 6 people you have to do dishes after every meal.
The area is secluded but neighbors have dogs.
The beach that is close requires you to walk over two one lane bridges.
Finally the house needs new appliances, dishwasher, washer and dryer. Several of the pieces of furniture are also quite old.
This wasn’t a house we wanted to hang out in.

We really found the place to be great. Clean, well equipped, great location, etc. That said, I would be remiss if I dod not mention some of the detractors (outside of owner/manager control).
First, I haven't herd "The Margareta" in a while, and I felt like I had survived through that dark time (baby shark is worse, but not by much). But, whilest the children were nestled, all snug in their bed, a frightful song entered my head! Out on the lawn (next house up) there arose such a clatter, I sprang out of my bed to see what was a matter? When what to my wondering eyes should appear, a very loud party with plenty of beer! The playlist was culled from a station of hits, those ones when you hear them you loose all your wits ("call me maybe"anyone?).
So loud party past 11:00pm...and, this is something on the property guid that should be alarming, "should you encounter incessant barking dogs....."
Well, we did.
The neighborhood has a feel of deliverance mixed with lord of the flies. Look at the sign next steet over, "local trafic only" with an unofficial addendum "no tourists".
They are hunting hogs with dogs. And we had numerous close range gunshots, idling vehicles and shrouded conversations.
Anyhow..you should know this. But, know also that we wouldn't take the trip back. We had a wonderful trip and the place is very well kept and nice and we thank the managers and owners for doing their best.

We had lovely week away from the hubbub of other travelers. As you will read in other reviews, there are neighborhood dogs that do bark a lot but we generally were able to ignore. The roosters early in the morning will definitely wake you though! Everything else was great and we appreciated the beauty around us. Very relaxing!

John’s place is great. Everything worked out fine and was well decorated. Close to an excellent locals only beach you won’t find in the guidebooks with bridge jumping, rope swing, and even some rock jumping into a freshwater river.
As a private home it had all the implements to cook at home and all the towels and bedding were good. We used selling fans and enjoyed the cool breeze and decor of the home.
We were six people with three generations and all loved his place.
When we had not heard from the property manager John was incredibly responsive and charming.

We enjoyed our stay at the treehouse! It had the perfect amount of space for our family of 8. Prepare to see LOTS of geckos! And you will hear dogs barking / roosters crowing daily. I wish i'd known how much beach gear they had! I wouldn't of needed to rent more from the car person. They have a few smaller boards, lots of snorkles and goggles, 4 beach chairs and lots of towels, an umbrella, a cooler, and a closet of sun screen, aftersun, bugspray and games! There was already one small child life vest and we left our 10yr old lifevest we'd bought for future house guests.

We stayed here in April for fun and it was good, then came back in May for work and it was excellent. They had finished some minor home repair work, restocked the beach gear, and it was a perfect place. We love this house.

Stayed here for 6 nights & overall it was a great experience. Cleaners could have been a little more detail oriented. Kitchen sink didn’t get wiped out and it didn’t appear the house had been vacuumed/swept very well (if at all).
Some kitchen utensils and other little things are well used and could be replaced.
Beds were comfortable!
Nothing the property can do & no fault of your own, but be aware the barking neighborhood dogs can be heard. They can get loud and obnoxious.
We loved being way out in the middle of nowhere, but keep in mind, it’s out there and takes quite some time to get anywhere.

The house is amazing and remote and what we were looking for. The neighborhood however is very loud with literally constant dog and rooster sounds. No fault of the house, but if you want quiet, run the fans on high or reconsider another house. The location cannot be beat however.
The house does need some TLC, none of the screen doors worked to open and close easily, the hardware for the bathroom was sitting on the floor, and the TV took 7 days to get fixed. Not a big thing as you don't really need TV in hawaii but just FYI if you are looking for a luxury hotel style property this is not it. If you want an authentic location and ample space, this is a great choice.

Hello, our stay was awesome. Although there are some things that could use some help. The cabinets in the kitchen dont work properly. The master bathroom cabinet
door doesn’t stay shut. The master rooms floor was not clean, and I couldn't find a mop. All the snorkling gear was horribly dirty. Was unable to use the BBQ. No propane and everything was locked so we couldnt go fill it. Now on the good notes. Location was amazing. Lots of towels for all the people we had. Beds were so comfortable. And living room space was nice for hanging out listening to nature around us. Even with all the corks we would come back. Thank you for sharing your house.

Between the peaceful location of the house next to the river and convenient location close to Tunnels Beach and Hanalei, this property was a dream come true for our family. We woke up every morning to the sounds of bull frogs, birds and an occasional chicken and enjoyed coffee on our balcony. And we spent every evening out on the screened porch room playing cards as a family while listening to the evening sounds of Kauai. We had hoped for a more authentic and “off the beaten path” type of stay, and we found this in the beautiful, unique treehouse on the north shore. We will be back!

The Tree House lived up to it's description in full. It was large, open, light and breezy! Especially with the winds we had! It is right on the river and it was so nice to sit on the screened porch and hear the river. The only downside was there seemed to be quite a number of dogs in the distance who liked to bark at night. In fairness, the house rules book mentioned them and gave a number to call to complain with the Humane Society which we never did. Don't know why, but we didn't. We called the manager with several questions and they were always prompt in their answers and incredibly nice to talk with. We had several visits from lizards, we called them Harry after the one in the TV show Death in Paradise. They never bothered us and we didn't bother them. Cute to see.
We had never stayed in that area before and while it was a bit of a drive to Hanalei, we never minded that because of the beautiful views. And we totally enjoyed Haena Beach!

Conveniently well supplied house close to Haena’s park and beaches. Different than the usual condos in busy city. Close to Hanalei for restaurants and jojo’s shave ice. Can get noisy at night from the wild life (dogs barking and roosters crowing) and from cars crossing the bridge next to the house. Also, if lots of rain, might be stuck in town since bridge might be close, but remax contact helpful for plan b.
Overall, would recommend and stay again.

Our stay included my family of 4 (kids ages 7 & 11) and my parents. The home was just the right amount of space for us. It was nice allowing my parents to have their own area of the house for quiet. My daughter slept on the lanai the entire time and loved it. The dogs mentioned by other reviewers were mostly just heard the first night (rain may have kept them inside), bullfrogs were a nice background noise, and the roosters, well… we knew it was coming.
It was nice to have the cooler and beach gear available to us, as well as shopping bags for our farmers market trip. We had a negative interaction with the neighbor (or someone working on his home) and the local contacts/ property management team responded quickly and kindly.
Wainiha was quite a drive from a few of our destinations, but I loved coming back each day feeling like we were really on an island.

The house is beautiful, but it's not properly clean specially the floor and bathrooms. And one weird thing is the house shaking on my first day I thought I was dizzy, but not it's the house.
Not under your control, but every night we heard dogs barking super loud (maybe hunters?). But other than that we loved it!

We spent 14 days here and loved every moment! The house beautiful and nested among the trees. Each of the bedrooms were a very nice size with plenty of room, even with king size beds. Waking up and sitting out on the private balcony overlooking the river was the perfect way to start each day.
The kitchen was well equipped and made it easy to fix meals for the family and the dining room is where we spent our most valued quality time together. The table was solid wood and the bench seating provided plenty of space for everyone.
The house does not have AC, but it is not needed! Every window stayed open and fans on, which provided a nice breeze through the house. I actually had to use one of the additional blankets provided because the nights would get chilly inside.
The Wainiha River forks off just upstream and the calmer section runs just behind the house. The water is crystal clear and quite chilly, but it is just perfect for for an afternoon dip in the water! Almost every morning and evening I would sit by the water and just enjoy the peace and tranquility it provided; there is something so peaceful just watching the Hibiscus flowers float down the river. Many mornings I would see fish and giant tadpoles swimming, occasionally seeing a duck, crane, or frog. The large lawn is beautiful and full of tropical vegetation.
We went on several walks and taking a right at the end of the driveway will take you to the Wainiha Market down the street which we walked to few times to enjoy a Hawaiian shave ice or Açaí bowl. If you take a left at the end of the driveway and cross over the iconic Wainiha double bridges, the Wainiha beach is about a 5-7 minute walk. This beach is very quiet and we only saw one or two people there. We even had a fire on the beach for our last night here! The perfect way to end a spectacular vacation!

We loved the tree house! Lots of great things about this space. The Lanai was everyone’s favorite place to be. Loved beating able to walk to the market down the road. Definitely not a new space and cleanliness was a problem due to wear on the property. A few dishes were dirty when we arrived. The location is noisy. On top of the chickens & roosters (which you can’t avoid in Kauai) the bridge nearby was loud from traffic crossing. There are also a pack of neighborhood dogs that bark all evening. If you need a quiet sleep, this is not the place for you.

The house was everything we expected and more. It was clean and well stocked and the location was absolutely stunning. I read in other's reviews that the roosters were annoying but we thought it was a great way to make sure we didn't waste the day away. The only small issue was that the handle on the dishwasher was broken so we had to figure out how to get it open to load it.

Dogs were no problem…barked right after dark for an hour perhaps…we think they’re hunting dogs..did here a gunshot. The bull frogs were very loud…note to self…you’re on a river. I don’t know if the frogs are seasonal.
I was disappointed there were no kayaks. I assumed there would be…there were boogie boards that may have worked for floating down the river. No access to the beach otherwise.

Very nice house, and the owner/property manager was extremely responsive when we reported the coffeemaker wasn’t working- got us a new one within the day, which we greatly appreciated!!loved the screened in porch and appreciated the boogie boards and snorkeling equipment. Dogs barking every evening for about an hour- not that huge a deal (but sounds like a puppy mill??), roosters start in really early, but this is likely no different than all over the island!! But the sounds of cars all day and even throughout the night over the bridges was what surprised us. Got used to it, and liked the closeness to tunnels beach, and the state park. Long drive to Waimea canyon, but totally worth it!!

We had an absolutely amazing time staying here. It really is a great location if you are looking to be “off-grid” while on vacation. The listing said there was internet and services…well there is not, so don’t go there planning to have access to internet and cell phones. You may or may not have service, it is spotty at the least. That being said, if you can plan ahead for those things then great!
There are dogs that bark a ton….it only went on at night really, but to be honest it really didn’t affect us that much. The property management company is HORRIBLE, if you have to deal with them at all, be warned….they are not easy to deal with.
The property though….location, location location! Are you looking for a secluded place on the North Shore to just have some time with your family, without all the electronics? Then this is the place! There are little geckos all over! Some even got into the house a few times! It was a ton of fun playing in the water by the property…I wouldn’t recommend it with smaller kids, but older ones for sure.
There was a ton of space, the kitchen has everything you would need right at your fingertips. Overall the place was amazing…the Owner John is great to work with as well!
Highly recommend if you are looking for a secluded retreat with your family!

If you want a very quiet and cozy place to stay, Kauai Tree House is the place to be. Located between the nicest beaches and hikibg trails of the North Shore which makes so accessible if you just want to enjoy Nature at its best. Complete kitchenwares if you want to cook your own Huli-huli chicken :). Very clean and comfortable. This Highly recommended and would definitely go back.

The house is nice and comfortably furnished with ample fans and solid wifi. The close proximity to Hanalei, Haena State Park, various beaches, and the botanical gardens is really convenient.
The house itself is nice, but I think the property management company (ReMax) may have fallen short and set us up behind the 8-ball. There are some maintenance issues which should be addressed. I'm not sure when the house was cleaned before we arrived, but the floors and windows had spiderweb and dead bugs which don't send the most welcoming message. You expect to interact with bugs in the humid environment, but I think that the property could have been cleaned better to be more presentable. There were dead bugs in the cabinets in bowls and plates, so we had to wash everything through the dishwasher. None of the bedroom patios had been swept off, so there was dirt and debris on the decks and furniture. During night #1, we realized that our sheets and bedding smelled sour and musty, so we stripped the bed and rewashed everything the next day. It seemed that the linens were left in the washer too long during the previous cleaning.
The location is nice geographically, with a stream from the river on the back of the property; unfortunately the other side of the house faces a property with a bunch of junk, we couldn't tell if it was a hoarder property or junk yard. The guy who was urinating in that backyard didn't seem happy that we had been looking out our windows at the time.
The property also seems to be located near a location where dogs are boarded or where strays are brought, there is a lot of barking at all hours (we have two of our own dogs and have a good amount of patience).
Overall the house is nice and comfortable for a getaway retreat, but I blame the management company for lack of attention to cleanliness detail. The owner has done a nice job furnishing the house with amenities and the screened-in lanai off the main room was a great bonus.

We truly enjoyed our stay. The layout allowed privacy for both couples. The house was very private. We enjoyed listening to nature and the cacophony of the neighborhood dogs and famous Kauai roosters. The location does require a car. Our neighbor was developing his property with a backhoe at odd times of the day and night which was a bit annoying. The major issue we had was the lack of access to the Wainiha beach. You could not walk to the beach without walking on the main road and cutting through private property. You could not safely swim at the beach. You could float down the stream next to the property but still needed to navigate home. We were able to drive a short distance to both Tunnels and Ke’e Beach. Despite this drawback we did enjoy our stay at the Kauai Tree House which explains our overall rating of 4.

The cleanliness of this house is something to be desired. We have stayed here in the past and it was much more pleasant the first time around. I am pretty sure we left it better than we found it.
I don't think this is lacking on the house cleaners part by any means. When we arrived we noticed an insane amount of bugs and geckos in the house. We didn't discover until a few days later that a screen was completely missing from one window, so that had to be the culprit. This issue was not made urgent and we had to deal with bugs for multiple days. If this was on any other are of the island it wouldn't be a huge deal, but this house is right next to a river which means we were getting completely eaten alive by mosquitoes.
The dogs are so, so bad. Last time we stayed here we heard them but almost every night it sounds like there is dog fighting. And I mean, it sounds like dogs are dying. Its extremely hard to listen to and keeps you up all night. I know that this is nothing the property management can do, but its a HUGE issue that needs to be addressed.
The house wasn't very well stocked and considering we dropped 5k on the house alone we would expect a lot more.
The same cabinet that broke on us our first stay broke again on this stay. Like I said, they do a bare minimum to maintain this property. I highly advise the owners stay for a week and experience this yourself.
We will definitely be coming back to Kauai, but this house is not worth it anymore. Its extremely unfortunate cause this was our wedding/ honeymoon trip and this house - really - made our stay unpleasant. We had to stay a few nights and drop another $1k on another room just to sleep comfortably .

My family and I had a wonderful vacation staying at the Kauai treehouse. The home is well stocked with everything you should need. The beds are very comfortable. And the location is amazing. It’s private and beautiful. We wish we could have stayed much longer. Thank you!!!

The house was everything we expected. Comfortable 3 bed 2 bath right on the small river. It had most of the amenities we wanted for our 11 day stay, including beach chairs, cooler etc.
Couple of cleanliness issues made us give them only 3 stars for that category. There was coffee left over in coffee pot and inside of one of the kitchen cabinets could have used a good scrubbing. However living area, bathrooms and bedrooms were all clean.
The dining table and chairs were beautiful wood and easily fit our 7. There’s a big comfy leather (?) sectional in living area. Master bed and bath were both very comfortable.
All in all a very nice “beach house” and a very good value

This was a great home for our family of 7 to vacation. The windows and fans created a great breeze despite not having AC. The kitchen was perfectly equipped for cooking daily. The screened patio was a great space to relax in our own personal tropical river garden. We even floated down the river one day and got good use of the beach toys at the facility. I would recommend this for any larger group (but note the stairs for any mobility issues.)
