Hale Ma'kai


Aloha! Welcome to Hale Ma'kai (house beside the sea), my tropical-themed one-bedroom vacation condo in the Kihei Akahi complex in sunny Kihei. It is the perfect place to spend your Maui vacation. Hale Ma'kai is a spacious (696 SF), ground-floor condo with lanai opening out onto a large lawn. It has been decorated with tropical decor and filled with special details to provide a relaxing south seas home away from home.

UPDATES: The full-sized kitchen and bathroom have been updated with new cabinets, appliances and finishes. The living room sofa is regularly re-upholstered and carpeting replaced on a regular basis. New, quiet, energy efficient replacement windows have been installed. Most recent updates were new living room carpet (2018) and refrigerator (2017), new dishwasher, countertops with sinks and faucets in kitchen and bath (2018), and bathtub/shower re-glazing (2018). The bedroom has new carpeting, tropical furniture imported from the mainland and a new king mattress. It has a tropical quilt, staying consistent with the overall theme. Photos reflect the style of the condo.

OTHER AMENITIES include your personal washer and dryer, ceiling fans, a quiet window AC, free high-speed WiFi and free long distance phone service to the US and Canada. In addition, the condo has a flat panel TV with Spectrum's "Silver" TV cable package, and a DVD/VHS player with and an eclectic library of books, VCR tapes, and DVDs -- several featuring Hawaiian history and/or culture. Beach toys, snorkeling gear, beach umbrellas, towels, and chairs are available to my guests.

I now live about two miles from the condo and can personally perform regular deep cleaning and maintenance on a more regular basis. I am also available to handle any problem right away. I want my guests to have the best vacation experience possible.

THE KIHEI AKAHI COMPLEX boasts lovely tropical grounds with Plumeria trees, Hibiscus and other mature, lush Hawaiian plants. A botanical garden walk is on the grounds with maps available at the front desk.

THE BEACH. Across the street is sandy Kamaole II Beach Park with showers and restrooms. During the day until 5:00 PM, the beach park has lifeguards. At Kam II, as it is called, you will be able to catch the rays of the sun (wear sunscreen!) or swim and snorkel -- and be likely to see a green sea turtle or two. In the evenings you will be able to sit on the west-facing beach or my personal lanai and view the sunsets while having a glass of wine or dinner.

HANDCAPPED ACCESSIBLE: My condo can be accessed via wheelchair. However, it is not true ADA compliant and, therefore, not set up for many of the needs of handicapped guests. Please discuss your needs with me before booking.

SERVICE ANIMALS. Although true ADA compliant assistance animals are welcome in the Kihei Akahi complex, PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED. To use an assistance animal requires prior approval from the owner at time of booking. Documentation will be required which may include a written verification by the guests attending healthcare provider that the guest has a disability as described in the ADA and FHA and requires the services of the dog/animal. The use of internet certification services of service/assistance animals, is not, according to a 2020 bulletin by the US Department of Justice, sufficient to establish the need for an assistance animal. The condo is furnished and carpeted. To return the condo to an allergen-free state so that it is safe to be used by renters with allergies and the owner will be the responsibility of the renter. This will require additional fees to shampoo all carpets and furniture, wash walls, and clean drapes. It will also require that the renter pay for an additional night as these activities cannot be fully completed within one day.

SMOKE FREE CONDO. Smoking is not allowed in my condo or on the lanai. Kihei Akahi has a policy of no smoking in the walkways, the lanais, or within 50 feet of any buildings. Attractive outdoor smoking areas are provided by the complex.

COPY OF A GOVERNMENT-ISSUED PHOTO ID AND A PERSONALIZED AND SIGNED RENTAL AGREEMENT ARE REQUIRED BEFORE RESERVATION IS FINALIZED. The rental agreement on VRBO will be modified by owner to reflect the specifics of the reservation. .
