Please read this before you book. The following is in reference to the Lahaina fires and 2024 Winter/Spring painting of the exterior of the Konea Building.

Please understand that if you come and stay with me that you will not be taking a room from a displaced family or that you will be taking resources from victims of the fire. Right after the fire, me and the owners I represent placed victims of the fire in our units free of charge. No questions. It gave them a safe place to think and they knew they would need to find a longer term solution. Most have done that. A couple still need some more time and they will have that. I will not kick them out for a paying guest, so if the unit shows available then it’s available because the family in it found a longer term solution.

What to expect:

Keep in mind everything north and south of Lahaina is intact. That said 85% of Lahaina Town is gone. So when you drive in via the Lahaina Bypass you will see some damage. Once you come down and get back on Honoapiilani Highway and go past Safeway (which is open now) you will see what you have seen on TV. It’s bad, but there’s nothing you can do but support those people now.

Depending on when you are coming there may still be displaced families at Honua Kai as the Resort really stepped up more than anyone else in offering temporary housing. The ones that work will be understanding and grateful, and this does not need to be said but we all just need to be respectful of one another.

We hear all the time how much people love Maui, how they leave a little bit of their heart in Maui when the leave, and how Maui allows their family to connect or re-connect. The truth of the matter is that Maui needs you now more than ever to come and support its people, its shops and its restaurants. That said I understand and respect that some people may see it differently, so everyone needs to make their own choice.

PAINTING

The HOA is going ahead with the exterior painting of the Konea Building. The painting has already began on the outer units (not the interior courtyard which is where your unit is located). They are painting the exterior of the building and not the interiors.


The tentative timeframes are:


Konea 707 May/June 2024

Konea 403, 503, and 703 April/May 2024


If they are actively painting your lanai you will not have access to your lanai from 8 am to 4pm Monday thru Friday. Painters don't work weekends or holidays. The lanai furniture has to be wrapped in the plastic covering provided during the work hours. The guest is responsible for replacing the plastic covering on the lanai furniture if they remove it. So, you can use the lanai before and after they paint for the day, just not during.


They will access the exterior of the building and the unit lanai's via a booms and not scaffolding. At the end of the day they lower the booms.


Here are your options: If they will be actively painting during your stay you can cancel for a full refund at any time prior to arrival. If you do not cancel and they are actively painting your unit’s lanai during your stay we will apply a 25% discount to your rate for those days. We will know when they are actively painting because the painting company will have signs on the lanai doors reminding us that they are painting.


As we learned from the painting schedule for the Hokulani building last year, the Konea painting schedule is tentative. It is somewhat of a moving target and tends to be delayed. The rates have not been discounted on the current calendar. If a refund applies then we'd issue that during your stay for the days they are actively painting.

This explanation may help since Honua Kai can be confusing. The construction of the Luana Townhouses is 100% complete, Honua Kai is now 700 individually owned condominiums that belong to a Homeowners Association. Honua Kai is not a hotel. Every owner chooses to either use the onsite management which is now Outrigger or they choose an outside rental company (ORC). Outrigger is not the "Resort" they're just the onsite managment company. Now they own the front desk area and some other areas at Honua Kai, but all guests have access to the pools, restaurant, stores, Spa, fitness center and concierge


Please take a look at our photos and you'll see that they are actual pictures of the unit and upon your arrival you will say that the pictures do not do this place justice. Also, know that this unit has the highly desirable 1315 sq ft floorplan. If you want to make your trip special this is the unit for you.

-Use of swimming pool, exercise room, and concierge service. We also provide beach chairs, towels, boogie boards, paper products and binoculars.

-Our Aloha Welcome Package which includes coffee K-pods, Chilled Champagne, Hawaiian Chocolates, Tommy Bahama Shampoo and Soaps.

-Either the bellman or I will greet you at the bell desk and escort you to the unit.

Clean and plenty of space for the family. Black out curtains were great for naps. Bring a couple cabinet locks if you have littles so they can't get into the plates and bowls. Pools were plenty warm. Huge balcony was kid safe, one of the best places for the little one to play. General store in the resort had the essentials including diapers and wipes (size 3 and 4). Host was quick and responsive. Due to multiple units and many guests, sometimes there's stuff missing from the closet, just ask and you'll get it right away (i.e. snorkel set, pack n play, etc).

We absolutely loved staying here. The location was perfect and the pools were amazing. We will definitely stay here again. Joe was great communicating check in and also communicating about the power outage and evacuation due to bush fire. Very sad to see what happened to beautiful Maui.

What a great property! We had so much room to spread out, and the resort itself was perfect! Great pools, awesome beach and nice amenities. We didn’t experience any noise from pool or neighboring units, and slept beautifully- beds were comfy too! We really appreciated having garage parking underneath the building so my mom didn’t have to walk across a hot parking lot when we were ready to go somewhere. The shop at the resort was convenient, but even more convenient was a small grocery store across the street from the resort, as well as a food truck park next door. We loved it all!

Family of 5 had a fantastic stay here in early June 2023 for 10 days. Joe at Kai Malina Properties had great communication and check in was easy through bell desk. Loved the key pad door locks allowing us to walk out without keys or cards. Unit was clean and is located on fourth floor in north Konea building with amazing pool, ocean, and sunset views. We had many sunset dinners on the lanai after we grilled downstairs at the many available grills at the property. Parking underground was very convenient via one of the elevators near the unit. Beds were comfortable and our son noted the pullout couch was also reasonable. We definitely used the beach chairs and umbrella provided by Joe. Boogie boards and water noodles were also provided. Beach out front does have coral good for snorkeling and there are pockets of sand areas in the water near the edge. More sandy ocean bottom is about 10 min walk south. We did walk to south Kaanapali many times which took about 35 min to Sheraton/Black Rock. Overall this is a great luxury condo resort with good drink and food service at the pools via Dukes restaurant staff. The location is quieter than south Kaanapali and the units are probably the best in the area. The fully opening folding doors to the lanai is a great feature. We are definitely staying here again. Thanks Joe for a great family vacation.

Joe’s place is simply wonderful. The views from the lanai can’t be beat, the condo is spotless and well prepared for guests, the beds were very comfortable, and the curtains allowed it to be totally dark for a great night’s sleep. We completely enjoyed our stay. The HK resort is gorgeous. Duke’s, the on-site restaurant, is delicious enough to eat there everyday (which is a big bonus with kids). There is also a food truck park within a quick five minute walk, which we loved. When we go away, we want convenience and comfort, and Joe delivered on both. I did see someone mention carpet in a previous review, and I have to say I loved having plush, clean carpet after a long day on concrete and sand. It felt glorious on our feet!

We have stayed at Honua kai 4 times over the last 10 years and this was our first time in a 2 bedroom vs 3 bedrooms. Overall great unit to stay. The unit does have carpet but it was very clean with no odor. Could use a few more utensils and mugs (only 4). The unit itself was very clean but it starting to show some age on the walls and in the bathrooms. The pools are great my son loves the water slide and also has great access to the beach and lovely boardwalk. Due to the growth of palm trees, the unit has a very small view of the ocean and would need to stay up higher to get an ocean view. The owner was easy to contact and check in and checkout very easily. I would want to stay in a higher unit next time as we enjoy a full ocean view.

Wonderful! This is the place to stay if you want to enjoy a great view of the ocean and experience all the luxury and benefits of a full resort. Many different pools and hot tubes and a great beach in front. The beach boardwalk along the various resorts and hotels is about a mile long and perfect for exercise. We have stayed other places in Maui, and this is by far the best. The unit is well maintained with lots of extras to enjoy. We will definitely rent here on our next visit!

My family of four truly enjoyed our stay in this unit at the Honua Kai. The unit was clean and very large, the view from the lanai was beautiful and the location was fantastic whether we wanted to walk to other resorts or take a quick drive into Lahaina. There are also food trucks very close by as well as a grocery store and other services across the street. Joe was very easy to communicate with and the check-in/check-out process was seamless. Would definitely stay again!

We had an turkey wonderful experience. The view was spectacular and the accommodations we great. The rental was spacious and had everything we needed for a 4 day stay. We had a party of 5 and no one was tight on space. The resort had everything you needed so you didn’t need to go anyways if you didn’t want to. I would have no hesitation on rebooking here at anytime. My family was in awe.

The condo was well equipped with beach and snorkel gear. The view from the balcony was perfect to watch sunsets or just enjoy the stunning views while eating breakfast or lunch. This is a fantastic property. The view from the lanai is amazing, we enjoy watching the sunset at dinner almost every day during our stay there. The toddlers enjoyed the fact that we were so close to the lazy river and water slide area. You don't really hear a whole lot of noise from the pool area since the pool closest to the units is designated as a "quiet" pool. They do a great job cleaning the unit and you are welcomed with a box of chocolate and champagne chilled in the fridge! Check-in and check-out was very easy. Joe takes care of you. During our stay we had a few requests for extra supplies, questions, etc. He was always quick to respond and extremely accommodating. The location of this unit/property is great. A supermarket and a food truck lot is only a 5-min walk out the back gate of Honui Kai. You're also within a 15-min drive to many other attractions, Black Rock, Pacific Foundation Whale Tour, Shave Ice, etc. We look forward to staying here again the next time we come back to Maui.

Had a great week at Joe's condo. Appreciated the thoughtful touches including local coffee, chocolates and champagne upon arrival, as well as the closet with beach gear to use during our stay (chairs, umbrella, swim noodles, cooler, etc.) The unit was super clean and the beds were comfy. This is my second time at Honua Kai, and first time booking with Joe. This place was amazing. Everything was exactly as pictured. The place was spotless. I will be be booking this unit again. Joe was great and was easy to communicate with. I was staying here with my family, and we’re all adults. However, there were plenty of items for little kids to enjoy. Including 4 beach chairs, 2 umbrellas, and a small cooler. This place is great for everyone!
