Hale Hina is a luxurious, contemporary home that provides guests with a stunning ocean-based setting, high-end comfort and an ideal location. Just two hundred feet from the ocean, it is nestled among large palms and coconut trees that provide an estate-like feeling of privacy. Views of the ocean can be seen from the lanai, living room and master bedroom. Tasteful furnishings are found throughout the house and numerous decorative touches create a feeling of elegance and comfort throughout the home while sky lighted ceilings bring a heavenly glow inside.

This home is an easy walk to the world class Tunnels Beach, where you'll find some of the best snorkeling and swimming on Kauai. You can walk out of the house with your morning coffee, down a short garden path, and be on the beach in less than a minute enjoying a secluded ocean vista in nearly complete privacy. The short walk from the house to Tunnels Beach passes whitewater waves crashing along a crescent-shaped cove, and is one of the most beautiful beach walks in all of Hawaii.

This light and open home has three large, tastefully-decorated bedrooms (K,Q, Q+Day Bed) and three and a half bathrooms. The spacious master bedroom features a lovely ocean view and the huge master bathroom includes a double shower and a jetted tub. The bright, open kitchen is fully equipped, and the ocean-side lanai is perfect for dining or simply savoring the tropical ambiance and ocean views.

You'll also enjoy the extraordinarily large, travertine-tiled, furnished outdoor area complete with a ping pong table, Hawaiian daybed and fun environment to enjoy with friends.

Haena State Park -
Please note: if you wish to visit the very end of the road during your stay, you will need advance reservations. Reservations are now required for all vehicles, walk-in entry, and shuttle riders visiting Ha'ena State Park, as well as for day hikers accessing the Kalalau Trail. Reservations may be made up to 30 days in advance, and no later than the day before your visit. Visit to make reservations to enter the state park for hiking, beach-going and parking.

Our family (including 4 in their early 20s) spent a week enjoying the beautiful home and nearby beaches. We loved that each bedroom had its own private bath. The kitchen was well-appointed and we cooked a number of meals together. The proximity to Hanalei, Tunnels Beach and the Na Pali coast trail provided everyone with great options. And we were lucky to have really great weather. Will definitely be back!

Both times, we loved the house because of its location and layout. Because all three bedrooms are spacious and have en suite baths, it is great for families or couples. The renovations are tasteful and lovely.

We were 3 adult couples who are close proximity friends at home. This was our second trip together and we found Hale Hena to have enough room for us all to be comfortable in. We are all cooks and found the kitchen to have everything we needed.....except for sharp knives which we have NEVER found in a vacation rental and which is why we always bring at least 1 with us. Hale Hena is practically on the beach and closes to snorkeling as well as the various marine life ( seals and turtles).The only downside of staying in Haena is the distance to good restaurant food in either Hanalea or Kapaa.

This easily ranks up there with the very top. From the moment you arrive, after taking in the ridiculous view from the living room to the waves breaking, you realize how clean and spacious and modern the accommodations are and yet it feels warm and comfortable with just a subtle touch of island/surf decor. It really has everything you need. New appliances and beautiful kitchen and plenty of towels for beach and home. The ping-pong table, swing and beach chairs were surprise bonuses in the beautiful patio. Even a yoga mat! And most importantly, the location is fantastic. Just close enough to Hanalei to be convenient for the great restaurants and stores, but far enough out of town to feel away from the crowds, if there are any. A very short walk to the beautiful beach, and a short drive to some other stunning beaches as well. And every time you return after being out, it feels like a real home. Impeccably maintained by the management. Really wonderful. A slice of heaven. My only complaint is that the time flies by too quickly. Hope to return soon. Thank you! Aloha

The TVs and washing machines worked with no problems. The outdoor space is very private and fun! There are lots of places to hang out in the shade or walk around the yard and admire all of the beautiful plants and flowers. A very short walk or even quicker bike ride to the beach access was right next to the property. We would recommend staying here and hope to again one day.

And a fun restaurant steps away at Opakapaka Grill if you want a change from cooking (though cooking at Hale Hina is a good time because of the set-up, inside and out).

Private with a view over a vacant lot to the beach. We did however have to do some cleaning when we arrived. Mold in the dishwasher which was filthy as was the guest bathroom Lots of mold. The washer also wasn’t clean and smelled. The bikes were in bad condition and one of the beach umbrellas was broken. Loved the ping pong table and grill which are under cover. The company was great to work with and super professional. Overall, loved the home and would stay again. With some minor issues to be resolved, this would be a 5 star.

Outfitted with three bedrooms, laid out in a very private way, the house also contains two exterior common spaces, and a large interior common space.The location was pretty incredible. Not quite beachfront, but steps to the beach, it provides an excellent beach view across a neighboring property, and is surrounded by lush foliage, which provide a home to many birds and afford the home ample privacy.I highly recommend this house to anyone looking to stay in a more remote part of the island, with nearby access to what seems to be the most celebrated beach on the island, Tunnels.Makana was easy to work with, and I recommend booking with them directly (rather than a middleman like Airbnb) to save big on cost.

Reviewer Comments: My family and I spent a perfect 10 days in the magical Hale Hina, cooking nightly in the well- appointed kitchen or the downstairs bbq area, walking the 1/2 mile to Tunnels beach every day, and watching the sunset from our own wilder b a high nightly. The house itself is beautiful and well-stocked with beach chairs and umbrellas. While we did venture out for a hike or two , an ice cream cone in Hanalei bay, we were happy to come home to the peaceful beauty of Haena. Everyone I talked with at Makana vacation properties was kind and helpful.
