This is a nice quiet place on the south end if the island close to the black sand and green sand beaches. It is a great place to relax and a good place to serve as home base when exploring the island. This unit has great view from the back patio.

Beautiful place, perfect lay out of rooms with south-facing patio. Neighbors next door, but patio was very private. Pool was great for the kids. Black sand beach is wonderful, saw lots of green turtles. Best bakery ever in the nearest village.

Everything clean and in working order. Great location nearer Volcanoes National Park than Hilo or Kona. Scrumptious bakery just up the road. Great black sand beach. We completely enjoyed our stay at Hale Ke Kai. It's a fabulous location both island wise and within the complex. Unobstructed views of the ocean and the old golf course. The unit is very well stocked, spices in the kitchen, linens, paper products and Aloha. We spent a week here and felt revitalized when we left. It's one hour to Hilo, 40 mins to Volcanos Natl. Park and a hour and a half to Kailua-Kona. It's a bit remote and that's what we wanted. We will stay here again in the future if available.

The home was exactly as advertised. It is in a quite rural area, so car is definitely recommended for getting around town, to go eat out or go grocery shopping. A black sand beach is five minutes walking distance away and it’s beautiful, and there are green turtles sunning themselves there too.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 40th anniversary trip to the Big Island. The condo was perfect for an adult couple with lots to see and do within driving distance, or just stay home and lounge on the patio or at the pool. The turtles at the Black Sands Beach were only a few minutes away. All around great time.

My husband and I just returned from our trip and We loved this perfect little cottage! I found this place using accessibility filters on vrbo as my husband is a wheelchair user. Just a quick heads up to other wheelchair users- this space is a little tight to navigate (especially if you use a power chair). The door is also really really heavy (husband couldn’t open it on his own) and the hill leading to the house is very steep. This is not AT ALL Meant to come across as a negative review- we had a lovely time and loved being at the house. Just wanted to give a heads up to any other wheelchair users looking for an accessible space. It is technically accessible” but by the end of the week my husband was a little frustrated.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hale Kekai. We had a tv problem and Jeff was quickly responsive in solving the issue. While it turned out to be unsolvable, it didn't impact our stay at all but he made it up to us regardless. The pool area is was never busy and had a beautiful view. This beautiful property is a bit off the beaten path, and is a great place to stay to get away from the noise. We really enjoyed the quick walk to the black sand beach. This spot is also situated perfectly between Hilo and the Kona airport - so it is easy to do both sides of the island with ease.

This is an absolutely lovely property and location. I loved sitting on the patio and listening to the ocean and the birds in the morning and evenings. It’s close to Volcanoes National Park - it’s absolutely perfect if you plan to spend a lot of time in the park. We got up early each day and made it to the park by 7AM and had all the trails to ourselves. That alone is worth the stay. The black sand beach is within walking distance and you’ll see green sea turtles and nēnē wandering around. It feels a world away from any other part of the island. The condo was older but clean and well taken care of. Really, it’s perfect. We loved it so much and I hope we’ll come back again. Jeff was also wonderful. He stayed in touch and was always friendly. I really can’t recommend it enough! I wish we had stayed longer!

The quick walk down to Punalu’u Beach was nice and we saw turtles almost every day. Even though there wasn’t AC (which we knew) it cooled off at night and we slept fine. You’re close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park; however, not much else. I’d highly recommend the Tuk Tuk Thai Food Truck in Volcano and the Punalu’u Bake Shop in Naalehu- both were excellent. There were a few insects at the condo- the deck must have an ant colony somewhere under the cement that should be addressed. Despite that, we would definitely stay again. 😊

Abnormally wet weather impacted the entire island during our stay but we still enjoyed sitting under the patio awning, and the slopes to the north blocked the wind so it was much more pleasant here than some areas. The road to the west was flooded on our way back to the Kona airport, but it was probably easier to drive around through Hilo in the rain anyway, so no big deal.

This unit had the best view of the whole complex. We sat for hours listening to and watching the ocean. It was a short walk to Punalu’u Black Sand Beach and a 10 minute drive to Na’ahilu where you can find a couple of cafes and the famous Punalu’u Bake shop. South Point was also close by and the National Park is only 35 minutes away. It does get warm in the unit in the daytime but there are plenty of fans to keep it cool at night. A perfect quiet getaway in the southern part of the Big Island.

The proximity (short walk)
to Punalu’u Beach where you can enjoy the black sands, snorkeling with tropical fish, and observing sea turtles underwater contently going about their days was simply awesome! Volcano Nation Park was only about a 30-minute drive away as well. The shared pool and hot tub on-site were very nice with beautiful landscaping, nighttime stars, sunrise and sunset views! The space had everything we needed including linens and beach towels. Check-out was very hands-off and easy.

to Punalu’u Beach where you can enjoy the black sands, snorkeling with tropical fish, and observing sea turtles underwater contently going about their days was simply awesome! Volcano Nation Park was only about a 30-minute drive away as well. The shared pool and hot tub on-site were very nice with beautiful landscaping, nighttime stars, sunrise and sunset views! The space had everything we needed including linens and beach towels. Check-out was very hands-off and easy.

Nice private unit at the end of the Colony One project. It's a very pleasant, relaxing place to stay for a few days. Only complaints is the unit wasn't as clean as we hoped (fair amount of dirt and even animal droppings littered around property) and needs updating (e.g., outside table is uncomfortable and could use an umbrella to block the glaring sun). Fairly well stocked (...though there was no soap in bathroom.; had to use hand sanitizer instead). Notwithstanding such hiccups, would recommend the place as a nice relaxing get-away.

The condo is as advertised. It feels like you have your own back yard. The nice breeze and sunrises cannot be beat. The bed was very comfortable. The condo was well stocked with towels, kitchen items, and beach items. Communication with the owner was top notch. There is a nice view of the ocean and mountains. We loved the location for exploring the east side of the island. Having Punalu’u Black Sand beach so close by was incredible and easily walked to. There is no air conditioning, but that is stated in the description. They do have ceiling fans and 3 extra fans to keep you cooler. I highly recommend this condo. It is off the beaten path, which we love, serene, peaceful, and as private as you can get being in a condo.
