The Kala Beach Cottage is an authentic Kekaha Sugar Plantation Managers Cottage. Lovingly restored with integrity by a professional interior designer, this cottage gives you the obvious sense of classic Hawaii living. Other amenities of this charming cottage include a private enclosed back yard and covered patio, giving the option for outdoor entertaining and/or sunbathing. Enjoy OCEAN VIEWS from the front lanai, and a brief 1 minute walk will take you to the ocean and stretches of sparkling white sand for 15 miles without a house. Here the reef comes onshore and provides protected pools for calm water and swimming. This is an ideal place for children to safely enjoy the water.

At the base, and within minutes of the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific', the WAIMEA CANYON offers sunny cool weather which is ideal for hiking the many miles of trails through varied native forests and canyon views. You can hike to the cliffs of the NA PALI COAST, often reaching 4000 feet, and see spectacular views of the jagged shoreline and deeply carved valleys where the first Hawaiians lived.

Another option is a 5 mile drive to POLIHALE BEACH STATE PARK, where wide stretches of sand for up to seven miles meet the Na Pali Coast. Here you will find a beach, framed with dunes of up to 100 feet and some of the most beautiful blue water you will see in Hawaii. At end of the beach, near the Na Pali cliffs, you will find showers, bathrooms, and pavilions. This is the place to escape and dry out in the sun on those days where clouds and rain obscure the sun, especially on the north and east shores in the Winter. This is an uncrowded treasure for beach and nature lovers.

This is the sunny westside of Kauai, where rain rarely occurs, and sunny mornings with cobalt blue skies are common. Why gamble your vacation by staying on the North Shore, where rain is constantly replenishing the lush green forests, and sunny days can be infrequent in the Winter months?

Why stay at the Waimea Plantation Cottages, where a 'garden view' cottage starts at $275 per night, when you can have the ultimate privacy of your own beach cottage within a few steps of white sand beaches that go on forever? This side of the island guarantees you an amazing end to each day, offering the opportunity to see a SIZZLING SUNSET over the Pacific Ocean. You may even see the 'green flash'! This is a sweet spot that is affordable when compared to other Kekaha options.
Bring your sunscreen and an umbrella.... you will need it...... because the sun shines here!

We loved this place. Lots of nice personal touches that didn't make the house feel institutional at all. Beds were comfortable, great backyard, cozy. Felt at home here. Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our time at this nice little house. It was very thoughtfully stocked and nicely maintained - which can be hard when so close to the ocean. Like others have mentioned, it's on kind of a busy corner but certainly wouldn't stop me from staying here again!

Great location for adventures and away from resorts, this cottage was the perfect place. After hiking in Koke'e and Weimea Parks and getting pummeled by waves at local Kekaha Beach or stunning Polihale, kids would wash off in the warm outdoor showers (while mom was in the clawfoot tub). One block walk to the beach to watch sunsets, and a front porch with view of the ocean for bringing in and out the day. Backyard including orange tree that we fresh-squeezed into juice every morning. Beach chairs, umbrella, snorkle gear, body board, guide books, blender, toaster, ice maker, AC in bedrooms, etc... Just perfect simple neighborhood place.

Enjoy the location of the property close to the beach. The walking distance was also convenient to just walk to the beach. Very quiet.

My wife and I (in our early 60s) found this to be a very pleasant, affordable cottage for two within a 5 minute walk of the beach. While not luxurious, it was very comfortable and we would definitely consider staying here again. We enjoyed the quiet of being far from the big luxury resorts and slept comfortably. The home was furnished with all you could hope to find; the kitchen was well stocked with everything you could want if you wished to cook at home. The outdoor shower was welcome after a day at the shore. We found ourselves (along with other residents and tourists) walking daily the few steps to the beach to enjoy each evening’s sunset. We found the school across the street to be quiet and the neighborhood peaceful. Newcomers to Kauai May find it a bit far to the various tourist attractions, especially Hanalei Bay. But we found it a charming home away from home on the drier southern side of the island.

Lovely little spot just one block off the beach in Kekaha. The town is quaint and quiet, and great for folks looking to disconnect and relax. The house has all of the amenities you’d want, comfortable living area and the beds were cozy. Would recommend staying here to anyone who wants to spend some time on Kauai’s west side.

A charming home with everything we needed for our family reunion event in Kekaha. The instructions were concise, and it was simple to retrieve. There are extra keys inside for use during our stay. Check in was easy as the key is in a lock box. Plenty of contact information in case any issues arose. Communication was great with our host, Scott. I loved the big shower. Lots of space, hooks, open air design, great water pressure, removable head and plenty of body wash, shampoo and conditioner. The home was spotless and well stocked. I enjoyed the ceiling fan in the bedroom. It worked so well, I didn't need the window air unit. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of pillows. It was a nice treat to have a supercharger/alarm clock. It charged up my devices quickly. The kitchen had all one would need including a variety of spices. The ice machine worked well and kept us stocked with ice the entire stay. The home is one block from the beach. So convenient. There are beach chairs and a body surfboard for use. The Thrifty Mini Mart, next to the post office in Kekaha, has delicious poke and plate lunch available for a reasonable price. The business is small and does not look like much, but worth it. For luxury tea and coffee, just 3 miles to Waimea, we found Aloha 'N Paradise who made a perfect lavender matcha latte for me. The evenings were quiet, cool and breezy. A perfect respite for our busy days. Simple checkout. I would stay here again.

This is a super clean and quaint home on west side of Kauai with views of ocean from front porch. A small beach with excellent sunsets is a short one block walk. A more substantial beach with life guard is about 1 mile north. The waves are excellent here for boggie boarding (watch for strong rip currents). Pros about house: - soaps provided (shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent, dish soap, hand soap) - no body wash - comfortable beds - bedroom window air conditioners cooled the rooms very well for sleeping - games to play - large private back yard - close to Waimea Canyon Cons: - watch the dryer as it does not automatically shut off (it will keep running) - located across street from a small private school there is traffic during drop off and pick up times. So if you are looking for peaceful cup of coffee on front porch during the week might be best to walk to the beach with your coffee. - if you are planning to spend time on North Shore (Hanalei, Tunnels, Kalalau Trail,) is is about a 1 Hour 50 minutes drive one way. Overall we would stay here again!

This property was amazing. There literally wasnt anything that wasnt supplied, everything worked perfect,it was decorated nice, was very clean upon check in and was an all around great place to stay. There wasn't a list a mile long of things to do before check out and everything was ready to go when we got there. The location being right across the street from the ocean was an added bonus! If you want to get away from a charmless, brand new construction condo or house and stay somewhere with some character and charm....this is the place!

March 2023
We had a great stay at Kala Cottage. The house was well stocked (including bug spray, thank goodness) and very comfortable. Our kids loved playing in the yard and walking to the beach every night for the sunset. Our only small complaint was how surprisingly busy the intersection is that the house is on. It's a small town but the road seems to be a main passageway through town, including the Kauai bus. It wasn't too noisy and the majority of cars are driving slow and safely, it just made it hard to allow our kids to play in the front yard without very close supervision. Again, not a huge issue since there is a spacious, enjoyable backyard. The house was perfect for our family of 4 with plenty of space to hangout, eat, play, and sleep. We loved the town of Kehaha and the neighbors were super nice. Waimea is just up the road for groceries and yummy restaurants. Can't wait to return to this side of the island!

The home itself was so cute and clean, with the little extras that make the stay special. The host was responsive and helpful when it came to questions about the home or recommendations near by. Close to Waimea canyon but far from most attractions that you think of when you think Kaua’i. If you don’t mind a little drive for restaurants etc this place is for you!

Great place to stay on the “west” side of Kauai. Short walk to Kala Beach which is very relaxing with nice mid morning shade, fine sand and beautiful sunsets. The water was nice for wading and wave play but would definitely recommend only experienced swimmers venturing out. Kekaha Beach with a lifeguard is just down the road. The house is comfortable, nicely decorated and has everything you need for a stay. You will be the only tourists staying in the area as it is set in a local residential neighborhood. The locals we met were very friendly.

It was the perfect cottage getaway for our two adult children and us! So cozy and quaint! Really liked being out of the tourist area and therefore you have to drive around the island which enables you to familiarize yourself with the island! The cottage had everything we needed! Lovely decor! Property manager and rental managers were great! Thank you!

House was historically quaint, well prepared and very clean. Property Manager was very responsive when called. Ownership did change during our 10 day stay in early May. Fenced yard was very nice and well kept. Kitchen well furnished. Our 4th stay in Kekaha; a great location on the dry side away from the hustle and bustle. Wonderful if you're interested in hiking - Kokee and Waimea Canyon State Parks offer miles of varied trails. Good beach access too.

Traveling with a friend . The house was comfortable and clean. The back yard is private and you can see the ocean from the front porch. Truely enjoyed our stay. The place was well equipped with everything we needed incuding snorkel gear, beach chairs and. beach umbrella. The fact that it is located in a neighborhood was a plus. I would love to return

This was a delightful cottage in a wonderful residential neighborhood, not at all touristy, 1/2 block from the longest white sands beach on the islands. It's close to Waimea and Hanapepe and an easy drive to Koloa and Poipu. Don't miss the Fresh Shave on Koloa Road, Waimea Canyon, McBryde Gardens and the incredible Ishihara Market in Waimea. The cottage had everything you could possibly need, all the table settings, linens and very comfortable beds! Very clean and well maintained. A delight. We'd return.

We loved the cottage. It was very clean with comfortable beds. The decor is charming and comfortable. The location is great for hiking the Waimea canyon and getting away from crowds. The beach is very close with views from the front porch. We were there during the summer and the water was to rough to swim for kids. We played in the water a bit but the current, waves and riptide is very strong along this portion of the beach. We enjoyed walking along the beach and getting for feet/legs wet. We drove to the beach most days which was not a problem for us. This is an ideal spot for anyone who wants to get away from tourists, resorts and crowds. That means you need to drive for shopping and upscale restaurants. Returning to the quite cottage is worth it! There is normal noise from the coming and going of residence and the school across the street. Nothing alarming or over the top. The neighborhood is very quiet, safe and friendly. We appreciated the bbq, boogie boards, umbrella, ice chests and beach chairs that were available to use. It made our time more enjoyable. There’s is also yard furniture in the front and back. I would return to the cottage and have zero complaints or negative comments. The management team does an excellent job and are very friendly. My kids loved it here. They played in the yard, climbed the plumeria tree and played at the school Playground across the street. Great for a family of 4 or smaller.

Everything you could ever need was taken care of. A very well stocked pantry as well as everything you need for a day at the beach. We enjoyed the beautiful and well kept yard complete with barbeque and outdoor shower. The washer and dryer was a very convenient addition. Truly all the comforts of home away from home.We could not have asked for a more perfect holiday.

August 2012
Interesting house, nicely restored. The bathroom with the clawfoot tub and the semi-outdoor shower are nice touches. It was very clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated and only a short walk from a small, nice beach. It was a great location for exploring Waimea Canyon and Polihale Beach. I was briefly disappointed that the sand has eroded from Kekaha Beach Park, but a local gave me directions for a short drive to where the sandy beach starts about a mile further up the road.

Our first trip to Hawaii found us at this delightful spot on the west side. We couldn't have been happier! The cottage is so well equipped for just about anything. We're pretty domestic, like to cook, so had some kind of seafood every day. Good sources: Ishihara Market in Waimea (for poke) and Koloa Fish Market in Koloa. The canyon is such a surprise! Also, Polihale Beach... dark enough on a moonless night that Venus cast shadows!! Never needed A/C, fans were fine. Grill works great. Thanks for the beach chairs, and blender in cupboard for pina coladas. Cottage is very comfortable, clean, nicely appointed, and has just about everything. Really enjoyed the indoor/outdoor shower. Mahalo to Scott and Chad for this great place and a swell week on Kauai. Lou and Wes, Portland, OR

What a charming little house! Beautifully restored plantation workers cottage in perfect condition. All the details were right, nicely furnished and very comfortable beds. Good kitchen, well supplied with tools, appliances and (matching!) dishes. One block from the Ocean, great sunsets. Tree full of oranges in the fenced in back yard. Interesting (and flat) residential area to walk around. The house sits across from the end/small parking area of a catholic primary school, so kind of noisy around 2pm, but who is home then anyway. Very sunny end of a rather rainy but beautiful island.

Note: Vacancy calendar is approximate. Visit the owner/manager's reservation site to verify your dates.
