Hula Hale is a lovely and spacious home which has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The complete new and modern kitchen has granite counters and a granite bar. There are hard wood floors throughout and the comfortable great room looking out at the mountains and jungle. There is a large deck that wraps around half of the house with lounge chairs where you can soak up the sun in the peace and quiet of the tropical surroundings. There are two tables with chairs and umbrellas where you can enjoy your breakfast to the sound of the many song birds in the jungle.

There is a queen bed in the master bedroom and two double beds in the second bedroom. There is a tub and shower in one bathroom and a shower in the other. There is cable tv, phone, wireless internet access, DVD player, CD player/radio, gas BBQ, and some beach gear is available. It can sleep up to 6 people, but is better with only 4. It is not suitable for children under 7 years.

The home is a short three minute walk to a white sandy beach with great snorkeling and swimming. Hula Hale is located on a side dirt road, not on the main highway. Across the dirt road is a large pasture with horses and cows and the mountains and jungle.

There is a large grassy yard which gives it plenty of privacy. There is a steep staircase going up to the house. It may not be suitable for older adults and it is not suitable for children 5 and under. For the safety of the guests, there are cameras on the outside of the house and in the yard. There are none inside the house. Being on a side dirt road it does not have any road noise from the main highway. It is only about 2 miles before the Na Pali Coast hiking trail where you can do easy day hikes, or go all the 12 miles to Kalalau Valley. There is a small coffee cafe and a restaurant just a 3 minute stroll away.

The eclectic town of Hanalei has a variety of restaurants and shops, a grocery store and a great natural foods store with a wide selection of organic produce. There is great surfing for all levels, from total beginner to the expert professional. Just up the hill, a 5 minute drive past Hanalei in Princeville is more shops, restaurants and another grocery store.
Please note that this house is near the ocean and is considered the tsunami evacuation zone.

Hula Hale beach house Reviews

The house is located in a very quiet and private location with lovely unobstructed views of the mountain. You could tell that this was a very seasoned rental home that accommodated us with every possible need that we had and was meticulously clean and tidy. The beach at the end of the street was great for a quick dip and tunnels beach was a quick drive for the more adventurous. The drive to Hanalei bay was quite enjoyable. Perfect to get away from it all.

This is a mixed review. There is much to like about this home and location. Beach access was great. The close-by Hanalei Colony Resort provided access to restaurant meals and the shuttle that runs to Hā’ena Park. We loved our visit to the nearby Limahuli Garden & Preserve. My son and I snorkeled daily, sometimes twice, at Tunnels Beach. The home itself is lovely, and well-designed. The two bed/bath areas are on opposite ends of the house—nicely private. The house is packed with interesting furnishings: beautiful old surf boards & grass skirts & art pieces on the walls. The garden is beautiful. It was a quiet neighborhood. Considerations: Unreliable clothes washer & dryer. Had to un-plug/reset several times each use. No kitchen towels—had to use a bathroom face towel. No facial tissue supplied in bathrooms. (Seems picky, but we’ve never stayed in a place without these basics.) Except for kitchen counters, there were no empty horizontal surfaces. All tables (side, dining, nightstands, etc.) were full of interesting decorative items (candles, jars of shells, etc). We had to move them all aside before we could sit down to a meal together or have a flat work surface. Felt awkward, not knowing how valuable the items were. One sliding glass door off bedroom would not lock, no way to secure in spite of thre request to always lock up home when not present. Appreciated your note to feed the fish on the lanai. But please advise guests about the ones down in the yard.

our stay at hula hale was fantastic. the house was beautifully decorated and well stocked with anything you needed. the proximity to beautiful beaches on the north shore was a plus. we rented bicycles from the bike doktor which helped with the limited parking access to many of the beaches. highly recommend a boat tour of the napali coast also. everything was just stunning.

We had a wonderful weeklong stay here. A comfortable, beautifully located home, equipped with virtually everything you might need during your stay. Walking distance to at least a couple of uncrowded beaches, a big gift since the popular beaches can be hard to access due to limited parking. A couple of cautions for some folks: As advertised, the stairs are daunting — more than a full flight up. We’re in our mid-70s, in good though not athletic shape, and for us the stairs were manageable, though getting the luggage up and down was *not* easy. Also, no AC: The up side is that having the house open really brings the outside in, and the Kauai air is glorious. Down side: We were hot at moments. All in all, well worth the trade-off for us but perhaps not for everyone. The road from Hanalei is narrow, with several one-lane bridges, and there’s a good deal of traffic headed to Tunnels Beach and Haena State Park, but everyone was responsible and courteous. If you’re good with the stairs and no AC, this is a perfect getaway.

We loved this home. It was perfectly clean upon our arrival and so well stocked with everything you’d ever need. Lots of extra bath towels, beach towels, pillows and blankets. The location is perfect if you like the serenity of the north shore. It is about a 15 minute walk to tunnels, our favorite beach. A short drive to Hanalei and only a five minute walk to the restaurant at Hanalei colony resort. The kitchen is very well stocked, so we grilled most nights rather than go out.

My most favorite perk of this house was the view! The porch was the perfect place to drink a coffee in the morning and relax in the evening after adventuring all day. The neighborhood was quiet and calm, and a short drive to our preferred beach. The beds were cozy, everything was CLEAN and it just worked out great for my family of 4. I did need to contact owners after the wind knocked out the power but they were helpful and easy to talk to. We would definitely stay here again.

Acacia & Keith's property was immaculate and pictures dont do the place justice...from inside out! Check in and check out process was seamless. We reached out to Acacia several different times and she was super responsive. Location is unbeatable - about a 5 minute walk to a local private beach which had great snorkeling. There was also an area sectioned off for a resting pregnant Monk Seal who was soon joined by her pup. We spent a full day relaxing there and enjoyed the interaction between the two while they rested on the beach. Tunnels and Haena State Park/beach are a short drive down the road as are the shops and restaurants in town. There is an option to rent bikes but we decided not to. However i do think it would be a fun way to get around. As fitness enthusiasts there is just so much to see and do on the north shore. If you scuba dive, Fathom Five offers a great shore dive at Tunnels. If you want to workout at a great gym id strongly suggest Kilauea Phys Ed in Kilauea about a 30 minute drive (very nice facility). Princeville is close and we finally made it to Queens Bath after 3 trips to the island...its a must! I could go on and on but our trip.up north was nothing short.of amazing and it wouldnt have been possible without our stay at Hula Hale. Mahalo!

Our stay was near perfect! We especially want to mention that the master bedroom bed is *extremely* comfortable with very nice sheets/pillows, and the kitchen is very well-equipped for any/all cooking needs. Our only notes for possible improvement are that the master bedroom sliding glass door and windows could use drapes or blackout curtains (for guests who like sleeping in) — and guests who come/go after sundown might appreciate an automatic light in the yard/parking area.

I couldn't be happier with our stay. The responsiveness of the owner and property manager was instant and the property itself couldn't be more perfect. Pictures don't do justice to the quality of this home away from home. The location is ideal for a family or group of friends for whom natural beauty and the outdoors are the first priority. Highly recommend.

Beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean house. It is a great location if you want to be far from the bustle of the airport. The north shore beaches are beautiful - the movie South Pacific was filmed a walking distance from here. Do not miss tunnels beach (3/4 mile walk west)

It was an amazing place to chill and enjoy our small family reunion. It had everything we needed in order to live there happily for a week. On top of that, it was beautiful. I particularly loved the white noise of wind in the trees and the ocean at night. It made for great sleeping. 😊

The house was amazing. Every aspect was great! From the decor of the house, to the amenities provided, the location, cleanliness, etc. upon our arrival the cleaning lady was finishing up and informed us the coffee maker was broken, with in an hour a new one was delivered. Acacia was very responsive with every question we had. They really though of everything. No AC, but Dyson fans provided in every room. We hope to be back one day!

I have to say from the moment the property managers reached out to us to the time we checked out this was by far the best VRBO rental we have ever stayed in. The homeowners were personable and had great communication with us throughout our stay. It was such a delight speaking with them. There is so much attention to detail put into this home. It's a private oasis in a small neighborhood of beach houses. The landscaping is outstanding and well maintained. Feels like you’re living in a jungle with all the green vegetation; not to mention the cattle and horses across the street that graze throughout the day. The wrap around deck has plenty of seating and has sun and shade to cater to your needs. I absolutely loved the A-frame/vaulted ceiling, the lombard/hurricane window shutters, the wooden surfboards and how bright and airy the property is. The house was almost an escape from our vacation- as we had a hard time leaving the place to venture out each day. The house is situated in an ideal location- close to many picturesque beaches; as well as just a few minutes’ walk down a small path to Kepuhi beach which is clean, quiet and beautiful. The house and amenities are convenient and maintained well. If you were going to cook, the kitchen is well stocked with every implement you could need - just bring your main groceries. The house has tons of sitting and lounging space in many rooms, so you can all be together or find peace and quiet alone if you like. For people coming from afar, there are beach chairs, mats, beach towels, coolers, and umbrellas all stored and ready for you. The bathrooms are all stocked with Malie Organics hand and body soap- very luxurious! I ended up purchasing the Koke’e scent online upon departure from the island. Bath towels are also readily available, and they have a commercial sized washer and dryer. There's a BBQ grill and outdoor firepit available for use if desired. The only items we needed to bring were our clothes, food, and sunscreen. Overall - everything was amazing and comfortable, I can't say enough great things about the location, property, management and owners. I would stay here again without question!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We enjoy preparing our own meals and this property has what you need to cook most anything! The walk to the beach is easy and pleasant, once there the beach is beautiful. It's also easy to walk to the nearby restaurant for drinks in the evening. The views from the property are lovely and the home is nicely appointed with plenty of towels, comfortable seating and fans. We did communicate with the owners while there and they were responsive and very pleasant to interact with. As long as everyone in your group can handle stairs we highly recommend this property.

Book this home. Everything in it is luxurious from the beds, to the linens, to the towels, to the decor. We had the best nights sleep here and truly enjoyed waking up to the jungle sounds every morning. You feel like you’ve been dropped off in Jurassic Park. Hanalei Bay is about 15 minutes away which is where we ate most of our meals. The snorkeling was best at Tunnels. Just an FYI-You need reservations wherever you go-the state park, the botanic gardens, the lighthouse, just about everything. So plan accordingly and book at LEAST a few months in advance. Get used to long lines at every restaurant. You wait around ALOT to have a meal. You can reserve a seat at Postcards restaurant. Do that months in advance. Best beaches were Ke’e (need a reservation to watch sunset) and Hanalei Bay. We hired a private guide and it was great. She knew where to go with no lines and the best places to eat. You can hire her at Toursbylocals.com and her name is Kate. She took us to private snorkeling lagoons, a Hindu Temple (amazing) hiking to waterfalls etc. Things only locals would know about so there was no waiting and incredible scenery. Again-don’t hesitate to rent this place if you want a private jungle experience. Our 4 young adult children were in heaven here.

This property and home are incredible and truly exceeded our expectations! The house is beautiful and has literally everything you might need for a comfortable stay (from beach cooler, umbrella and chairs, to Tupperware and outdoor dining dishes). The living space is very comfortable, well kept and spacious, and the location is tranquil with breathtaking views of the mountains from the lanai. There are multiple beaches to choose from, and with Hanalei so close by it is easy to grab groceries or dine out. We recommend planning to visit Ha'ena state park and visiting Ke'e beach and then hiking the 2 miles along the incredible Kalalau coastal trail to Hanakapi'ai beach. If you are up for it, go the extra 2 miles to the Hanakap'ai falls. The total hike is a solid day trip with views and beauty beyond description- a highlight for our family. However, make sure you book ahead as access to the park requires passes (which sell out quickly, you need to book a month in advance - we barely got them) and is limited. Another must do is making your way to Tunnels beach for the sunset. Wow, just wow.... There is nothing we would change about our stay here - we plan to return!

We just returned from a fantastic stay at this beautiful home outside Hanalei. We were there with our two young adult kids (21). The house is furnished beautifully, with a lovely Hawaiian feel. Gorgeous deck area, where we could listen to the birds while enjoying a beautiful, lush green view. So incredibly peaceful and serene. The house is very well equipped with anything you need for cooking. Beach towels and chairs are also made available. We rented bikes from the Bike Doktor in Hanalei. He dropped them off at the house and picked them up again after we left. We rode bikes to Tunnels Beach, which was about a 10-15 minute bike ride. There's also a restaurant (Opakapaka) and art gallery/coffee house that's about a 1-2 minute bike ride away. The communication with the property manager before our visit was excellent. She was super responsive and gave us a ton of helpful info about the island. We really enjoyed the Backcountry Adventures mountain tubing experience. Highly recommend! We got entry passes in advance for Haena State park (you need to do this in advance up to 30 days) and hiked for a couple hours. The hike to the waterfall is about 9 miles round trip and takes 4-6 hours so we didn't do that but still enjoyed the gorgeous hike about halfway up. We truly loved the peaceful serenity of this home and are so glad we chose it instead of staying in a hotel. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting this part of Kauai.

The home was beautifully furnished with everything we needed for a relaxing yet active vacation. The deck was large and inviting with lots of tropical plants and birds and everything we needed to go to the beach was there! It was very quiet and we loved waking up to the sounds of the tropical birds and the scents of all the flowers. We could walk to a beach, a fabulous restaurant and go for runs down to the state park too.

Very nice house for a small group. We had the best sleep in comfortable beds, waking up the sounds of birds and surf. The Location was perfect for north shore beaches & hiking. The kitchen (& house) had everything needed, far superior to most rentals. Our only concern was that there was too much decorative stuff, limiting usable space for cooking, computer use (outlets) and gathering. It’s really a lovely house and we enjoyed our stay, just too much decorative stuff.

This house and location were beyond our expectations. The bed was super comfy and the house was beautiful. We loved waking up to the sound of birds and slept well with the soothing breeze. We never left the North Shore! We walked to Tunnels beach to swim and snorkel and then had the best fish sandwich and fish tacos at The Colony Resort a short walk away. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. We can’t wait to return and hope to stay here again!

My husband and I stayed for 9 nights in March 2022. We had an amazing time! Below I will outline some things to know about this rental based on our stay. Positives: The location. Very secluded, quiet, in probably the MOST beautiful area of Kauai. The house being high up makes you feel like you're in the trees. The cleanliness of the house was great. We appreciated the fact they had beach chairs and a cooler for us to use. An amazing beach for lounging and swimming (most of the time) is a short 7 min walk away! Also, we loved the close by restaurant, Opakapaka, which you could walk to if you wanted. Tunnels beach is also a very short drive away. Communicating with the people renting the property was great as they responded very quickly when I had a question. We loved the cows, horses, and donkeys across the street. I would definitely stay here again. Negatives: No "negatives" really... just things to keep in mind. There was one day when it rained a TON and there was flash flooding and we barely made it back into Hanalei before they closed the bridge so this is something to be mindful of. Also, this is a quiet neighborhood where locals live. I wouldn't recommend going here and being loud, bringing loud/wild kids. There are many stairs to get into the house so if you have a disability that makes stairs difficult, maybe stay elsewhere.

Best friends and spouses had the most amazing stay at Hula Hale in early February!! The pictures don’t do it justice. The property is fantastic from every little detail described in other reviews they are on point. The house was so comfortable from the moment we woke up to the amazing views of the mountain behind us to the sound of the ocean through the open windows. We had sunny, 80° days and cool 60° nights. In the evenings we either ate out or cooked our own meals. Everything in the kitchen was accessible and the bbq grill was great. Local farmers market in Haena on Tuesday is perfect place to get produce and even organic chicken. The local market has great things if you are a cook and need some extra condiments or spices. Neighborhood coolers provide fresh avocado using the honor system. The host and property manager were extremely responsive and left everything clearly marked for instructions. Everything from feeding the little fish in the morning in the evening to being kind and respectful to the neighbors it was great advice. This is truly Island living in Haena. We loved the proximity to tunnels Beach, the state park and Hanalei. The beach chairs towels and cooler were a big hit. We rented a jeep and toured the island or just stayed close by at the many beautiful beaches. Ke’e Tunnel, Annini and Black Pot just to name a few If you’re looking for a very quiet, peaceful spot on the most beautiful garden island, consider Hula Hale.

This exquisite home was a true pleasure to experience. If you are looking for a quiet, off the beaten path, place to enjoy Haena and the north shore of Kauai it will be difficult to beat. Thanks so much!

Very nice, clean house in quiet residential neighborhood. Close proximity to some of the best snorkelling beaches on the island (Tunnels and Ke'e), beach chairs and coolers for a day at the beach, and a well equipped kitchen. If you are planning on eating every meal out, just know its about a 10-15 minute drive to Hanalei and most restaurants (except for the Opakapaka, which you can walk to and is good food with a nice view of the ocean). In my opinion, the house isnt appropriate for small kids as it stocked with a lot of breakable decor. But the management has a very rigourous screening process of who to rent the house to, so they probably dont allow small children anyways. Overall, my wife and I enjoyed our stay here and absolutely love the north shore of Kauai.

The property was in a great location for a secluded feel and to explore the north shore and napali coast

The photos don't really do this place justice. Great location if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing trip close to one of best beaches! (Tunnels) The best way to get to the beach is riding bikes- parking is pretty much non-existent, so something to be aware of. Also parking in Haena State Park is very limited- you will need to make reservations (reservations open exactly 30 days in advance) - which go very quickly- you can reserve either a pass for a parking spot or you can buy a pass to ride your bikes in or you can reserve the shuttle. Be sure to do your research!

Had a great stay. The home is very well appointed, decorated, clean and in a quiet community steps from the beach. Perfect location for a quiet/relaxing stay.

I love Kauai, and this was my first time staying this far north. It’s quiet, no interactions with the neighbors, stunning sky at night and close to the beach.

The north shore of Kauai is breathtakingly beautiful. The house was very, very nice and extremely well appointed. You are a short bike ride to the beach at this location. Taking the beach path alongside the ymca or riding to tunnels. The bike Doctor rents and delivers bikes for 60 a week.

The house is just what we wanted and was a perfect retreat for our family. It is fully stocked with everything you need to cook (and we had to cook because you could not get dinner reservations anywhere). The all white house is very calming and spacious. The wraparound porch is great, there are plenty of fans, nice linens and beds are comfortable. The kids enjoyed feeding the fish, seeing the lizards and the view of the mountains is beautiful. Very easy and short drive to great beaches. We would definitely visit again and highly recommend it.

This is a beautiful home in a very quiet neighborhood only a quick, easy walk from the beach. The mountain views and surrounding tropical plants are beautiful and left you feeling like you were perfectly positioned in a tropical getaway. The short walk to the obvious beach access is easy and allowed for sunrise and sunset walks, beach combing, and breathtaking beach views.

This place is so much better than the photos show. Not only is the house in a quiet, lush tropical setting, but it is tastefully decorated with beautiful Hawaiian artifacts: vintage wooden surf boards, artwork and leis. There is nothing broken or in poor shape and no amenity is overlooked, from beach umbrellas and chairs to fins and snorkels and a fire pit. We loved it all. We walked or rode bikes to the beach each day, which was fabulous, but i think my favorite times were the family meals out on the lanai. Acacia, the manager, lives nearby so she knows the area well and is a wealth of information.

Lovely house in a wonderful, quiet location. This house was the perfect base to explore the north shore beaches for snorkeling and surfing and hiking. It is a very comfortable place to wind down at the end of a busy day, relax and sleep well. Sheets and towels are high quality, kitchen is fully stocked ( and has actual sharp knives and a vitamin) for cooking in. We totally enjoyed our stay at Hula Hale. (The collection of inlaid wooden surfboards were exquisite).

Note: Vacancy calendar is approximate. Visit the owner/manager's reservation site to verify your dates.
