We had a terrible experience during our stay at this condo. The team which manages this listing is completely irresponsible and they don’t respect any of their guests requests. We had booked this place for 2 nights and 3 days but we had to vacate after the first night and find a better place elsewhere. We requested the team to fix some of the things in the room but never got contacted by anyone from the local team. Only good thing about this condo is that it is oceanfront but the amount of dust inside, heat trapped inside with no good air conditioning made our stay a horrible experience.

The condo was clean, comfortable and so very close to the ocean, it was amazing! Hearing the sound of the ocean, being able to start every morning walking just a few steps from lounging on the lanai and dipping your feet in the ocean was heaven. The kitchen had everything you needed to prepare meals and the little gift basket on the table of coffee and sweets was very thoughtful. Would definitely visit here again.

This was the perfect place to stay in Kauai. It is right along the coast with an unobstructed view of the waves crashing onto the Kapaa shore. It was so soothing to fall asleep to them. The sidewalk in front of the property is part of a paved, 8-mile Kapaa bike path. We used it to run during our trip. The home is conveniently stocked with kitchenware and spices. We cooked a number of meals and also made use of their blender to make fruit smoothies. The wifi was fast and we had no issues with it. The check-in and check-out processes were smooth. Vacasa even left us a welcome treat :) We wouldn't hesitate to travel with Vacasa again. Thank you!

This spot was a wonderful landing place after our flight. We stayed at 3 locations during our 8 day visit on Kauai and this was the first. It was close to the airport and easy to find. The view and location was outstanding. Waking up to the sunrise over the ocean and the sound of waves was exactly what we were hoping for. The beach below the apartment was gorgeous and private and was really easy to get to. There is a short path of stairs that are not steep. Most days when we went out to the beach there were only a few people there. When we were there the surf was strong and there is no lifeguard so it is advised only to swim with caution. However there is a shallow lagoon that kids and adults can wade in and the small swimming pool was clean and also not crowded when we went. The room is a bit small and if you’re staying for more than a few days it can get cramped but if you’re just using this spot for a landing place after adventuring all day that probably wouldn’t be an issue. The bed was comfortable and the fully equipped kitchen was a huge plus for us. Some of the reviews mentions rodent problem, we did not encounter any animal pests during our stay, but there was a charming chicken family who roamed around the property. Overall I give this place an 8/10 definitely would recommend but if you are planning an extended stay I would say split the days between this spot and another larger cottage or house.

Pros -
The unit was located at an amazing location. The views in the morning from the patio were amazing! Lots of restaurants/stores located nearby which was great.
It was decently stocked with necessary essentials. Eg. Beach chairs, utensils, coffee maker, microwave, bathroom essentials, lots of towels, beach towels.
There were some welcome snacks provided which was a nice gesture.
Checking in was super convenient due to detailed instructions.
Parking was available in ample inside the community.
For us, we requested a late checkout because we had a really late flight. We contacted the management and they were able to get it confirmed in less than 5 mins for a small fee. For us, that was super helpful.
Cons -
The unit had a rodent issue. We were unaware and left a few food items (bread in its packaging, bananas, cookies in their packaging) on the counter which were eaten into. Few of our bags containing food were chewed into too. I understand the tropical climate could result in the presence of bugs, but I was not expecting rodents. Would have been good if they could have at least let us know so we would have been more careful with the food.
Some essentials like coffee, sugar, common salt were missing from the pantry.
The apartment was clean and well kept, but definitely was old and dated.

This was a perfect location. 20 feet from the beach on the ground floor.
The unit was very small without a bedroom, but it was perfect for my wife and me. We went to sleep each night to the sound of the ocean. Pure paradise!

The apartment at Kapa'a Sands was a nice little place with good amenities and beach gear. The back door leads out into a small lawn with a path down to the beach, which was never crowded. The pictures look like the beach is right out the back door, but there is a small protected area on a slope that separates the lawn from the beach.
Pros:
+ The host left us a care package, which was very thoughtful.
+ Very close to the beach, with a nice ocean breeze to help keep things cool using the provided fans.
+ Easy access to laundry services, coffee shops, and restaurants.
+ Parking space provided.
Cons:
- There was a rodent issue. We weren't able to leave packaged food out on the counter. While we never saw the rodent, it had gotten into our food and left droppings on the counter.
- The parking spaces are narrow, which can produce anxiety if you are renting a car with your own insurance.
- As with most of Kau'ai, there are tons of wild chickens and having the windows open for the breeze means that you will likely be awakened by a rooster right next to the apartment early in the morning (earplugs may be helpful)

Loved, loved, loved the view and listening to the ocean waves all day. Great communication with mgmt. Nice welcome package with a card. Great touch! Shops and restaurants within walking distance and Safeway is a short drive. There is also a super walmart between property and the airport. Great size for hubby and I but it would be tight if you add small child or above. I would stay here again.

On our first honeymoon after 20 years together. Paradise! Everything we needed was here, and nothing could beat the beauty, not to mention, privacy! We walked along the coastline, and yes there were resorts with more amenities, but that included more guests. We felt like we were in a romantic sanctuary. Cons: sticky floors, due to humidity I'm sure. 3.5/5 cleanliness, but the charm certainly outweighed the minor imperfections. Planning to return with our teens next year! **Don't feed the chickens!

We had a wonderful month at Kapaa Sands. We had stayed before in Unit 12 and were happy to return to it. The view from the porch is beautiful, and the rest of the property is lovely and well-kept too. Unit 12 met all of our needs....the kitchen was well equipped, the king-sized bed very comfortable, and all other amenities met our needs. Everyone who took care of the property was very friendly. Charlie, the manager was very friendly, full of smiles, and able to assist us when we needed help.

The location of the property is ideal for visiting all parts of Kauai. Quiet neighborhood and smaller complex. We loved watching and hearing the waves coming in. The unit has everything we needed although could use some cosmetic updates (carpet, lamps, furnishings). We would stay here again.

While the space is quite small, the location is unbeatable. Small community feel where most folks can be counted on to watch every sunrise and sunset from the best seat in the house. Beautiful beach directly in front of the unit is not a good swimming site but wonderful to walk and relax on. Will stay here as often as I can.

I have stayed at this resort a number of times, & was excellent. This time I was disappointed with unit 12. It needs much updating. The decor is drab & furniture looked like it came from garage sales. The bed was comfortable though. Coffee maker plate thoroughly rusted, garbage disposer extremely loud, microwave plate doesn`t fit & wobbles. The 2 coffee mugs are not microwave safe, as I learned, when reheating coffee & burnt my fingers when taking out the cup. I accidentally walked thru screen door & tried to notify maintenance but it was not a working #. So I notified maid service, when they came by, a couple days later. TV/Cable had no instructions & took me quite awhile to figure out. Information folder very sparse, inadequate, & not current. Take out the carpeting. A friend stayed in another single unit, & hers was much nicer. My vacation on Kauii was very nice. I would stay here again, but nor in unit 12.

The location of this property is central to the island`s activities and convenient to the airport. We had one car and never had an issue with parking at the unit. I would note that this unit did not have AC, which we learned after booking and coming from NC made us nervous. We stayed here in Sept. and were pleasantly surprised that as long as we left the windows open and the fans running the unit was comfortable enough. The kitchen is well stocked and there are several grocery stores in close proximity to the unit. It was nice that the unit supplied a cooler and icepacks. I loved the view of the ocean from this unit! Your are right there on the ocean and have access to a small beach. If you walk down the beach there are several restaurants and bars that you can go to. We particularly loved the tuna burritos at the Sleeping Giant Grill. I would stay here again and would recommend to others that are looking for a quaint no frills ocean cottage. This is an older unit and is a little dated in appearance. Do keep clean in the kitchen since you will want to keep the windows open. The bed was comfortable (we like a medium/firm mattress). For my case I never spoke directly with property management aside from the online reservation and email correspondence on check-in and out procedures, which went smoothly for us.

Overall, a good experience.There were a few maintenance issues that need to be tended to. The main patio door drapes and rods need replacing. The curtain rods were worn and rusted so it made it difficult to open/close the drapes. There were patches of what appeared to be mold on the towel rack in the bathroom. Our coffee pot decanter had broken glass on the spout. It was surprising that this had not been noticed by the previous guests, but could have been a dangerous outcome.Other than that, we were very satisfied. Great oceanfront on the ground floor and staff were very helpful.

We have stayed in #12 at Kapaa Sands many times. It has the best ocean view! We love the serenity of the resort. We love how Hula Now handles the details of the reservation. Dawn has been so helpful to us through the years. She is wonderful to work with. The unit is very simple, but the rewards of having a lanai that looks out on the ocean make it all worthwhile.

Love the location. Within walking distance to several of our favorite restaurants & shops. Originally stayed here in 1982 & the grounds are still beautiful, tropical & magical. Unit 12 was clean. Not all renters are careful with others property, so it has to be hard to keep the property`s condition perfect. Hula Now (Dawn) was great & easy to work with.

The space is arguably in the best location on the east side of the island. It is within walking distance to shops, great restaurants, shave ice, and a grocery store. The beach and pool are very relaxing, with ample lounge chairs available for use. The grounds are lush and very beautiful.
The room itself is quite cozy. The view is unbeatable, as it has a direct view of the ocean with a nice balcony. There were only 2 of us and we found it a little tricky to find places to store our bags. I think a luggage stand would have helped. We felt that the room was reasonably clean - however, the floors could use a good mop and vacuum.
Other reviews mentioned concerns about towels. We stayed here 4 nights and were given 4 bath towels and 2 beach towels. This was sufficient for our needs. There were also plenty of hand towels and washcloths.
The parking lot fills up after 7:00 or 8:00 PM, but we could always find street parking if needed.
Overall we had a wonderful time here. Despite the small things nitpicked in this review, I would still stay here 100 times over. It made for a vacation we will never forget!

Overall fine. Price was cheaper than the property's hotel owned units. Great location, directions for check in clear via email, etc. Some extras were available like beach umbrella and chairs,& yoga mats, which was nice. Overall pretty clean, but some items should probably be replaced due to age and wear and tear, like a discolored toilet seat. Shower curtain had a strong sour mildew smell, so needs a very deep clean. Pillow had a mildew smell as well, but i flipped it over and it was ok. Shower has very little water pressure and shower head should probably be replaced soon. Was told a reasonable amount of paper products would be provided and then I'd have to buy the rest on my own. Well there were two toilet paper rolls for a ten night stay for two people. That's a bit unreasonable in my opinion.

The view is fantastic, the location is great,the bed is very comfortable, the landscaping on the property is lovely. Unfortunately the room itself is old and tired, definitely needs a refresh. The sofa was grimy, cleaning utensils were left in the bathroom, there were long black hairs in the bathtub, the safe was broken and there was no instruction binder. At one point we asked for some more soap and were told we only get a starter kit. We tried to change the garbage and there were no garbage bags in the unit. We asked for more and were assured we would receive them but we had not by the time we left to come home.

First -We loved it was on the beach with nothing obstructing the view (other than a few trees)! Such a beautiful view!! It’s not a luxury condo with fancy frills, but it met all we wanted for our stay. Somewhat outdated (older cabinets, shower pressure was so-so, and the smoke alarm was disabled) but it was clean and quiet and that was what was the most important to us. The gardens are BEAUTIFUL. We were very happy with the price for all we got. The bed is nice and very comfortable! Air conditioner worked great, which was a must for my husband. There’s beach chairs and an umbrella provided, as well as a soft sided cooler. You have to walk 3 flights of stairs as there’s no elevator, but we didn’t mind that. Shopping and grocery store nearby was such a nice convenience!! . We loved eating at the next door restaurant, Lava Lava, our favorite restaurant we tried in Kauai!! Cocktails at the pool tiki hut was also a huge plus (strong and tasty!). I would DEFINITELY recommend this place if you’re on a budget and want a great location overlooking the ocean!!!

The complex is a bit dated (and a little worn from the sea/salt exposure), but the waterfront view is awesome. Nothing fancy but the value is great and it is in a great location to go anywhere on the island in not too long a drive. Plenty of places to get food if you don't want to drive too. Check in was easy, we didn't have any problems while we were there. Kitchenette is small but allowed for us to keep perishables in the small fridge (worked well) - we used the gas grill down by the pool.

The room was pretty clean with the exception of someone’s makeup or self tanner smudged on the fitted sheet when we pulled back the covers. We simply rotated the sheet and did not complain due to our fatigue from attempting to make it there and not be charged for another night we were not present for since our flight had been cancelled the day prior. When we reached out about possibly not getting charged for the night we were unable to be there, we were met with the comment, “Well there’s nothing we can do. We didn’t cancel your flight.” As if I had cancelled my flight. I know your staff did not. They obviously could not have but that insensitive, complete lack of empathy comment matched with the small refund of $18 because we reached out to VRBO and they said we had to be refunded a minimum of the tax for the night, along with the dirty or stained sheet, AND having to check out and move to another room because of “mandatory renovations” that the Islander on the Beach staff knew nothing about.. We needless to say, did not enjoy our stay as much as we had hoped we would.

The Islander on the Beach is the most relaxing place to stay. The beach views from the lanai are amazing. I really enjoyed watching the sunrise with my coffee and taro/coconut muffin every morning.

The view was amazing and I love that we could go downstairs and be on the beach in 15 steps. Great restaurant just to the south~just a quick one minute walk on the lawn. Bed was comfortable, pillows were great, AC worked well, and unit was well insulated. The kitchen is very small, there is no storage for any kind of food while you are there, and there is no freezer for ice, etc. Almost no counter space but I made it work. Other than the minor issue of the kitchen, it was perfect!

Place is perfect for a vacation where you don't expect to cook at your place but the ability to make small meals. Balcony has a perfect view of the ocean where we watched the sunrise daily, and saw whales on multiple occasions. Can't recommend it enough.

The views were breathtaking of the sunrise, ocean and mountains. But the flora on the grounds were nicer than we saw anywhere else. The lush green foliage was topped with flowers everywhere. The grounds were immaculate, and the trees, plants , flowers and bushes were strategically planned for gorgeous settings all over the resort.
