Everything was as good or better than expected. I stay in a lot of rentals and this one was best stocked of them all. Everything you need like soap, trash bags, shampoo, even a vacuum were there. The view is fantastic but beware that the ocean is only a couple of feet away and the waves can get loud at night. The ACs worked great and kept us comfortable in unusually high outside temps. Host was great and easy to communicate with. The area is central to everything but there are only a few restaurants close, so if you like eating out multiple times a day it’s probably not ideal. We enjoyed all the amenities of the kitchen and ate several dinners on the lanai with an unbelievable view. Would book again if I ever come back to Maui.

Property was as advertised, very clean, and in good repair. It is obvious the owner has put a lot of time, effort, and expense making this a great vacation rental. I've stayed in 15-20 VRBO rentals over the last 20 years and this one is the best by far. From the fruit/cookies/juice gift basket to all the beach gear, nothing could improve this property. I would definitely come here again.

I highly recommend this vrbo. Bill was friendly and very easy to work with. There was a welcome basket and the kitchen was stocked with the basic necessities. I don’t have any complaints. The view was absolutely gorgeous. I loved falling asleep and waking to the sound of the ocean. The condo is right on the beach so it is easy to go back and forth. The location on the island was ideal for the activities that my family and I did while on vacation. Don’t hesitate. Book with Bill!

Great place with amazing views! Beach was never crowded, and there was a family of sea turtles that hung out right there (we enjoyed watching them play in the waves from our lanai)! The Maalaea harbor with all of the snorkeling and whale watching cruises, as well as the aquarium, is walking distance away. Despite being a slightly longer walk to the harbor than many of the other condos (15-20 mins), it looked like the Makani a Kai was the only set of condos that had direct beach access from the property.
The condo was the perfect size for our family of 4.
There is plenty to see snorkeling right off the beach. Plenty of tropical fish swimming right off the shore, and our daughters had a sea turtle swim only a few feet away from them while they were snorkeling in waste deep water!

This is a beautiful property. It is well maintained, the check in/check out process is easy, and the location is perfect as I like spending time in Lahaina, Kehia and Wailea. The lanai is pretty private, and the view is incredible. Everything in the condo is well thought out from the fruit basket and cookies to the sunscreen and other items available. I traveled alone for a week, and I had a perfect getaway from work.

Imagine waking up every morning to the sound of waves lapping at the shore not twenty yards away. Imagine watching the sun rise with a cup of coffee on your private balcony, marveling as humpback whales the size of school buses jump out of the impossibly blue water. Imagine ending every night on that same balcony, staring up through the swaying palms at the brilliant stars above. That experience can be yours if you stay at Bill's place. If you stay over New Year's, you'll also get a clear view of the fireworks over South Maui. But no matter when you go, you'll also benefit from one of the most thoughtful and responsive hosts I've ever encountered at a vacation rental. Bill will be my first call whenever I come back to Maui, and I would highly recommend you do the same.

Beautiful view and nice condo. We stayed 2 weeks and we weren't given a set of clean sheets. Had alot of trouble with the air conditioner and we believe it was on a timer and weren't told that. This area is very windy and the ocean has alot of rocks in this area. Overall, the owner was very nice.

I have stayed in several different condos in Hawaii but this one was the best. The owners thought of everything needed to enjoy beautiful Maui. The location is central to see the whole Island. We loved sitting on the Lani watching the sunrise and watching for turtles. We were a little early for whales but did see a few while enjoying the Lani. We will definitely will stay here again if we return to Maui. Mahalo

The location was absolutely perfect for day trips anywhere on the island! Being so close to the ocean we were able to watch sea turtles in the water almost every day. Listening to the surf at night was so nice.
The condo has everything you need to for your stay on Maui. Towels, snorkeling gear, ice chests, chairs, umbrellas. You can tell they put some thought into what their guests will need.

We saw a sea turtle family swimming in the ocean from the Lanai! They were just a couple feet away from the beach right in front of the unit, and they were swimming away. There were parents and bunch of little turtles, so we thought they might have just hatched. It’s absolutely gorgeous and peaceful place and it’s just down the street from Maui Ocean Center where we took a boat to Molokini which you can see from the condo also.

This condo exceeded our expectations! So close to a lot of the places we wanted to go around Maui. The condo itself was very clean, well stocked, spacious, comfortable beds, AC was a plus during the hot temperatures and the view was AMAZING!! Watching surfers in the early mornings and gazing at the stars at nights was second to none! We used the boogie boards, beach chairs, beach towels and umbrellas too for our beach trips. The extra cot for our 2nd teenager was also nice to have. We highly recommend this condo and will definitely rent it again for our next trip to Maui.

If you are looking for a very quiet place with little traffic and lots of peace and serenity with a wonderful view this is the spot. The beach is awesome. We saw turtles all day every day. The lanai is located about 50 feet from the beach and you couldn’t ask for a better spot. The unit is very well equipped and very well done. The location is great being in Central Maui. We will definitely be back. Five star review all the way around.

We had such a great time staying here! The location is ideal, so many places nearby to explore or just a short driving distance away.
The view from the lanai is picture perfect! We also loved listening to the waves crash against the beach and even got to see the sea turtles playing in the surf. The condo itself had everything we needed plus more and Bill was very responsive. We absolutely loved our time here and look forward to coming back again soon!

Absolutely loved our stay in this condo on the beach. This second floor condo is nestled in lush tropical landscaping with lovely ocean views. Sitting on the lanai watching the waves roll in and the occasional surfer was delightful. The condo is located in an area convenient to drive either to the Northwest beaches or the South Shore. We were pleasantly surprised with all the extras provided in the condo. One really nice feature for any family with two teenagers is the cot with foam mattress we found - perfect to have a separate bed for both kids. Additionally, there were snorkel masks, flippers, beach towels, beach umbrella, cooler, beach chairs, boogie boards, reef safe sunscreen, shampoo/conditioner dispensers in the showers, basic condiments, and a welcome fruit basket, juice, and cookies. Also, the A/C was quiet, efficient, and located in each room. We had everything we needed for a fabulous trip to Maui! Mahalo!

Bill's condo far exceeded our expectations. I had no idea how close we really were to the ocean. We slept with the windows and lanai door open every night and stayed cool and were lulled to sleep by the waves.
The central location was perfect for our family. This was our first trip to Maui and everything was within 20-30 minutes away.

This is the place to stay for a lifetime experience. It has everything you could ask for. Ocean view from the balcony where you can see whales, turtles, Molokini, and see the summit of Haleakala. Owner provides all that is needed for going to the beach, going on picnics, or just relaxing at the resort. He also was very prompt with providing information about the property. This property is perfect for 2 people and quite adequate for a family of 4. Two couples might look elsewhere due to the open loft aspect. We also enjoyed the location since I was tasked to drive our crew all over the island and this village is a good mid point with easy access to roadways going in all 3 directions.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Bill and Cris’ property.
The photos from the listing are accurate. You really can’t get much closer to the water! The condo is in a quiet area. We had more than enough space for two people, and the check in process was easy.
The kitchen was well stocked as were the bathrooms. There were also plenty of beach supplies (snorkel gear, beach coolers, 4 beach chairs, beach towels, 2 body boards).
Note: You will need to drive to most restaurants, as delivery options are limited. It will be helpful to have a rental car.

There was no disappointment in booking this property for our stay in Maui. The home was excellently stocked with everything we needed. The views of the bay, and the family of turtles that live out front was a very nice surprise. The beach just steps from the front door and the park is perfect for laying out and enjoying the sunshine. Owner Bill, was very responsive and extremely helpful as well. I would definitely reccomend this property to anyone who would stay in Maui. Its central location is a great jump off point to everywhere on the Island. Cant wait to come back again.

Loved this place. Woke up to a view of rolling waves, beach, views of Haleakala, and Kihei, Wow!. Its centrally located so getting around was easy. The beach was not crowded, and you could snorkel there and watch the turtles without going to other places. Very clean place, stocked with everything for the kitchen. The beach chair, umbrella, snorkleling gear, noodles boogie boards, and coolers were add-ons and no need to run around renting those. Thanks you for the fruit basket. Communication was awesome! We loved this place and highly recommend it if you want to be on a beach with great views.

An absolutely lovely place to stay! It is right on a beach with stunning ocean views and turtle watching. The central location was a convenient home-base to explore the island. We loved this place! The location is fantastic: 15/20 minutes to Kihei, 25 minutes to Wailea (and our favorite beach Maluaka), 25 minutes to Lahaina, 25 minutes to Paia. We saw so much of the island. The view is fantastic! We enjoyed coffee on the lanai every morning listening to the waves and turtle spotting. The condo is very clean and well equipped with everything you can possibly need. We appreciated the boogie boards, the snorkeling gear, yoga mat, pool noodles, beach chairs, etc. As a family of four, we were very comfortable as well. The owners are extremely responsive and helpful. Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet getaway that is easily accessible to lots of different places on the island. Having a walkable beach footsteps away is magical.

I recently returned from visiting Maui for a week in October. Whenever I tell someone about the trip, I start with, "The best part of my trip was the amazing condo in Maalaea." Makani a Kai is a great little condo village at the end of a sleepy road in a sleepy town. It's not touristy at all, but there are a few cute stores and restaurants in walking distance! The condo has a beach view. Let me emphasize this, because it's important. You can walk out onto the balcony and see the beach. And the sea turtles that pop their little heads out of the water. Add to that the friendly owners, beautiful loft, wall of windows, beach supplies (towels, fins, snorkels...the whole nine), and awesome pool, and you are actually in heaven. If you're looking for the perfect place to stay, this is it. Look no further!!!!

Makani A Kai is a small piece of paradise on Maui...it sits literally right on the beach. From the lanai you can listen to the waves or watch the sea turtles swimming. It is centrally located so you can easily access all parts of the island no matter what adventures you would like to take. The condo has amazing views and everything you could need for a beach adventure, from snorkeling gear to boogies boards and beach chairs. The kitchen is stocked and the bbq's by the pool are perfect. We had an amazing time! We have been to Maui at least 10 times and we know the island pretty well and seen all there is to see. The location of this condo is perfect. Not only is it steps to the water but it is centrally located on the island. So if you like to explore, it's a quick drive to all the best beaches. In the past we've done hotels and if you like crowds that's the way to go. This condo is quiet and the grounds are beautiful. The lanai is so close to the beach you feel like you are on the sand. The beach has some swimming areas and there is also a small reef right outside the lanai. Everyday we saw a family of sea turtles right past the shore break. The beach is very long so it's great for walking and collecting shells. The condo itself has everything you would ever need...chairs, beach towels, snorkels, boogie boards and even a yoga mat. We are so happy to have found a place we can bring the kids and also enjoy some peace and quiet and the fact that it is steps to the water makes it perfect!!! We will be back for sure!

This was our first time in Maui and we could not have been happier with this location. The owners had thought of EVERYTHING. A great location and a perfect week. The condo is situated at the end of a row of other complexes and right next to a public beach. Beyond that is miles of open beach that stretches all the way to Kihei. Bill had all the amenities taken care of in the unit, beach chairs, snorkelling gear, towels, etc. he even stocked the fridge with water and condiments! The kitchen was a bit dated but the lanai made up for it. We enjoyed sitting out there at the end of a busy day with our two year old and watching the surfers tackle the big waves coming in. Mahalo!

This was our first trip to Maui and we could not have picked a better place to stay!!! The location is absolutely perfect, as is the condominium, which is fully equipped with everything you need for your holiday. Centrally located and very quiet, it was exactly what we were looking for on this vacation. There is really nothing like being on a beautiful, very private 5km beach mere steps from the condo door. Our daily routine definitely had to include coffee on the lanai every morning while watching the whales and turtles in the bay. We really enjoyed touring the beautiful island of Maui from this location and of course, spending many hours on directly on the beach. Our 21 year old daughter arrived for the last week and she was amazed at the place! We certainly enjoyed having the opportunity to meet you Bill and as I mentioned, having the coffee, cream, cookies and fruit there upon ones arrival is a very nice touch indeed! We have no complaints whatsoever and wouldn't change a thing! Of all the properties we have rented in our travels, this condo/location is now right at the top of our list and in fact, we are already looking at some possible dates for our next vacation there in the near future. This is our 6th year of staying in this unit. For the past 2 years the condo has been under new ownership. They have provided new amenities that are much appreciated. The location is fabulous for viewing whales, touring the island and walking the beach are just a few of the activities to enjoy from here.

This condo checked all our boxes! It is clean, in a fabulous location on an amazing beach, and the kitchen is very well-equipped. Within a 1/2 mile walk you have a couple small grocery stores, several restaurants, the Maui Ocean Center, and the Ma'alaea Marina. The property has a pristine 2.5 mile beach which is very private and is located at a dead end away from the hustle and bustle. For those wanting more social activity, you are just a quick 10 minute drive into Kihei and about a 20 minute trip to Lahaina.

Our family of four, including our two teenage sons, spent a wonderful Spring Break in this condo complex in Maalaea, Maui. This condo was perfect for us and really did provide all we needed for a delightful family vacation. The owners provided a clean, well-equipped and welcoming home for us. We were greeted with some fruit, cookies, and coffee upon our arrival. We found adequate utensils for our cooking needs, beach towels, snorkel gear, and other nice surprises which really enhanced our stay. The grounds of the condo complex are very well maintained and the barbecue grills, located near the pool, are new and great for grilling out. The condo is on the second floor and the lanai overlooks a manicured lawn right below and the beach mere steps away. Severals turtles were immediately outside in the water. I'm not sure the picture showed just how close to the water's edge this condo sits. But, if you need an even closer look, there is a set of binoculars provided that will get you even closer. I would absolutely rent this condo again. The central location, the lovely setting, the amenities, the value, and the owner who genuinely cared that we were happy, are all reasons to return. I rate our stay a strong five stars!

This condo worked out perfectly for my 7yo son and I. Bright and clean, the location is very central and it is a beautiful setting at the end of a quiet street. Condo was furnished thoughtfully and everything we needed for our beach adventures was provided- boogie board, snorkeling gear/fins, coolers, beach towels, etc.- making it easy for us to switch into vacation mode immediately on arrival.
We found it great to return home after long days of exploration and play, BBQ under the stars, and sleep to the sound of the surf and with the cool ocean breeze. A welcome reprieve after the bustle of Kihei, Lahaina and Paia and all in all a key ingredient in a wonderful week.
