On those cool winter evenings, guests will enjoy the warmth of the electric fireplace that comfortably heats the cottage and creates a cozy atmosphere.

G & Z Upcountry is a Bed & Breakfast, and your hosts will provide your cottage with seasonal fruit and breakfast breads, coffee and tea daily. The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, coffee pot and toaster/oven which enable guests to enjoy breakfast at their leisure.

For guests that would enjoy an agritourism experience, G & Z hosts are happy to share their farm where they grow avocados, lemons, limes, pomegranates, and coffee.

G & Z Upcountry looks forward to welcoming you to their B & B. When you stay with G & Z, you'll be within minutes of everything Maui has to offer.

We absolutely loved being guests of John and Marsha. It had amazing access to Haleakala and was the perfect, cozy, quiet place we needed. When we come back to Maui, we will absolutely be staying again. Thank you for being fantastic hosts! You were so kind and the breakfast pastries were absolutely delicious. Thank you!

Marsha and John’s place is perfect. We spent three days here as it is central to exploring the upcountry of Maui. Marsha has thought of everything to make you feel right at home. Coffee, juice, milk, fresh fruit and morning pastries is a wonderful touch. Property is beautiful and quiet. If you are staying upcountry I highly recommend the G & Z bed and breakfast.

The property was absolutely stunning, featuring a peaceful and incredibly beautiful garden and surroundings. The indoor amenities were even more elevated than those in our own home. In addition to the welcoming fresh fruit, milk, and juice, the hosts kindly provided delicious homemade baked goods every evening for our next day’s breakfast. They also thoughtfully provided a cooler, beach towels, and beach chairs for our use. If your plans extend beyond spending a week on a resort's beach, this property's location is ideal for exploring the island and making the most of your stay in Maui. Our only regret is that we didn't spend more time in this lovely house. Thank you Marsha and John for providing us with an exceptional vacation experience!

Marsha and John are wonderful hosts. We were greeted and given a tour of the house. The thoughtful touches like baked goods left for us everyday made our stay so special. The house is stocked with everything you need for food prep and trips to the beach. Thank you John and Marsha for a wonderful experience!

Marsha and John were wonderful hosts. Their property is beautiful, and they go above and beyond to make the rental until homey, comfortable, and provide things that make day trips much easier. This had to be the cleanest vacation rental we've ever stayed in. A cooler and other helpful items were provided. Exceptionally comfortable bed and towels. Having laundry just outside the unit ended up being a plus as well. The property is up on the Haleakala mountain, which is made very clear in the posting. This makes for wonderfully cool evenings exceptional for sleeping with the windows open. The drive up to the property is very easy though, and you can't go wrong with most views on the way. We loved staying outside the traditional, busier tourist areas. Highly recommended!

Everything was great. We loved the breakfast that was given to us every morning. The bed was comfy. Her response time was quick and she helped with anything that was needed. And even gave a tour of her property. So beautiful.

This little cottage was perfect for my husband and me. The weather is perfect in this area. We were hesitant to book due to no AC but I promise, it wasn't needed. If you want to get the true feel of Maui without all of the hustle and bustle, this is your place. Everything was within 15 minutes to an hours drive to see the entire island. All of the smaller towns all around have hidden gems as well. There were plenty of delicious restaurants and shopping very close. We were very close the the sunrise/sunset in Haleakala. The breakfast foods were delicious that the owners provided. You do sleep with the windows open and there was some road noise as well as roosters telling you good morning pretty early but it wasn't a problem for us at all and we are light sleepers. The place was one of the cleanest places we've rented and the owners were so friendly and helpful. Although they are next door, they give you plenty of privacy but are there for you if you need. This cottage has all you need for a short or long stay. We stayed 8 nights and loved every minute of our home away from home. You will not be disappointed in renting this place!

We really appreciated the pristine cleanliness and warm hospitality that Marsha and John offered so generously. We received nightly deliveries of baked goods and fruit for breakfast the next day, and the place was stocked full of more than we needed. We also thoroughly enjoyed the location, being more secluded and about equal distance to both Lahaina and Haleakala. The road to Hana was also easily doable in one day from this location. We would highly recommend to getaway at G&Z!

One of those rare times when the plase was better than the pictures! Marsha and John were amazing and respected our privacy. They provided pastries each day and the B and B was incredibly clean. We had everything, instructions on where to eat, soaps, all kitchen items, extra towels, an ice chest and even milk and juice! It was amazing and we wished we'd stayed longer! Hands down one of the best Vrbos we've stayed in!

Our short stay here was incredible. It was a clean and welcoming space. Marsha graciously showed us the ins and outs of the property as well as where to catch the best sunsets from, and gave us pastries each morning (and they were amazing!). We felt like the hosts actually wanted us to stay on their property. We would definitely stay here again.

This property exceeded our expectations. The place was spotless with beautiful views. Marsha and John were so friendly and helpful. Every morning, we enjoyed the delicious pastries Marsha brought us. We also appreciated that she made sure they did not contain nuts because of my husband's nut allergy. The location was great and a short drive to many other towns. Marsha also provided an extensive list of restaurant recommendations and gave us tips for doing the road to Hana. Since we were on a two week trip, having a washer and dryer to ourselves was also a big plus.

The host thought of just about everything! She was very responsive to all my inquiries and made attempts to accommodate my dietary needs (although not successful) but I was fine with it as I have the same issues myself! She was very attentive to our needs and privacy. I would definitely rent this place again and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a place that has great views, is centrally located and well kept.

What a fantastic few days we had in upcountry! As much as we love the beaches and resort areas of Maui, this was a great way to experience a different part of the island and all of it’s beauty. John & Marsha’s spot was incredible—fantastic accommodations, beautiful grounds, and well-located. J& M were so friendly and welcoming and offered great insight about the area. Thank you for a wonderful experience—we look forward to staying at G&Z Upcountry again!

Mrs. wMarsha quickly became Grandma Marsha to me and my best friend who stayed there for our 25th birthdays. She was kind, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the island. She helped us navigate the road to Hana and always had the best breakfast in the morning. Although this location is about 30 minutes from the beach, this is one of my favorite places I’ve ever stayed, it truly was a home away from home!

This place was such a good spot for us to start our trip on Maui; it’s located super close to Haleakalā National Park, a gorgeous botanical garden and a couple small, quaint towns with some awesome food/snacks/coffee. A wonderful stay and the hosts were so generous with their time and suggestions for our trip-thank you!

Very nice place and great host. Nice location for visiting Volcanic park and nice location for upcountry attractions. Nice change from busier sea level locations. Not far from airport so worked out good for day trip to Pearl Harbor. Very nice place. My wife envious because many of the appliances and furnishings are better than ours at home. Will stay here again if we ever come back to Maui

This lovely cottage gave us all we could hope for and more! It is in a lovely settling, quiet and peaceful. Views toward the Haleakala Crater are beautiful and the sunset view of the coast is magnificent. The cottage has everything needed for a very comfortable stay, king size bed, cozy living room with fireplace heater, and full kitchen for cooking local fish dinners if that is what you desire. Hosts Marsha and John were wonderful, friendly and attentive to our needs while giving us privacy and our own space. We highly recommend this VRBO and plan to stay here again on our next trip to Maui.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Marsha and John’s B&B. It’s spacious and clean. They thought of everything! We loved the location since we wanted to visit Haleakala and the Road to Hana. It also wasn’t far to the beaches. The neighborhood is nice and quiet, away from all the hustle and bustle below. Marsha and John were friendly and helpful hosts. I would highly recommend their place and would definitely stay there again!

My wife and I had an incredible stay at this property! If you are going to be spending any time at Haleakala National Park, you could not ask for a better location. The property is clean, updated, and very comfortable. Feels like home, just surrounded by the sights & sounds of Maui. The hosts provide timely and consistent communication, breakfast every morning, and check in and check out are a breeze! Highly recommend!!

We stayed here a few days at the end of our trip. It was nice to get away from the beach resorts and tourists for a bit! The property was pretty and in a good spot for us to head to Road to Hana early in the morning. The owners were super nice and brought us fresh fruit and baked goods for breakfast each day that were delicious! They also had an awesome book filled with recommendations of things to do and places to eat which was very helpful. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to stay in upcountry Maui!

Most people think of hot days and beaches when they think of Hawaii. Staying at G&Z Bed & Breakfast gives you a little different perspective; you'll be Upcountry where the nights are a little cooler (great for sleeping) and you can watch the sun peak over the top of Haleakala from the kitchen window in the morning. This is a cozy cottage attached to the owner's home. It is nicely laid out with updated amenities. The king sized bed is extremely comfortable. A private little deck off the living room has a beautiful view of the acreage. We saw a small axis deer, pheasants, and Jackson chameleons in the avocado tree. You are welcome to pick avocados as well as lemons and limes (guacamole and Cuba Libras anyone?!) The kitchen has everything you need to make meals and breakfast breads were provided every evening so we could enjoy them at our leisure in the morning (the cinnamon scones were amazing!). Marsha had also left milk, orange juice, butter, an assortment of fruit as well as different flavoured teas (we told her we don't drink coffee but I'm sure the coffee choices would be wonderful as well). Marsha and John are very friendly and attentive (but not overly so! Just whatever level of contact you want). Super hosts! We highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants a quiet get-away from all the bustle of the condo area of Kihei.

I slept deeper than I have in years, no joke. Awesome cozy bed, and the cool country air on the face through the night made for refreshed morning energy. Very sweet couple running this space....you can see the care that went into the crafting of the property as well as the continued attention to all details. Exemplary property owners in my opinion (I've seen many on Maui that should take notes from these two). I will absolutely return, and recommend to others anytime....aloha

Older property but very clean, tidy, and roomy. Bed was comfy, appliances were modern, and the living room with big screen TV, desk, chair, and couch was nice. Located next to a an intersection of two semi-busy roads but it’s was quiet inside. One caution was the three main areas - kitchen, living area, and bedroom are on different levels with different height steps! (I did trip and fall once). Also, you will need to cross about 50 yards of so of lawn grass that was always wet from rain or dew which soaked through our shoes to get to your entrance to the annex. Almost knocked off a star but the place was pleasent overall and the hosts were a pleasure to chat with!

We had a fantastic stay with Marsha and John. The space was comfy and cozy- well appointed with everything we needed! Our hosts had great recommendations for places to visit, eat and things to do. We loved sunrise at Haleakala, hiking, and seeing native forest birds and nene geese in the National Park. Fresh fruit, coffee, milk, juice and breakfast breads supplied got us off on the right foot each morning. We would stay again when we come back!

This was our first experience staying up country. Marsha and John were excellent hosts, and the proximity to West Maui hiking was great. We were not expecting the road noise which took away from the location.

We had a wonderful time staying on Marsha & John's property. Everything was as described in the listing. Marsha mentioned that many of the trees have been partially destroyed by deer that frequent their property, however I was able to use one of the lemons from their tree for our dinner recipe! Thanks so much for giving us the spare when we were locked out!!! Be careful when going out on the lanai, the lock is a bit tricky -- you can open it from the inside when it's locked on the outside!

Great choice in rural Kula! This is a separate apartment attached to the owner’s home, with its own front and side entries and two porches. It is nicely situated under an avocado and a jacaranda tree, and there is a view up the mountain from the kitchen window. It’s quite roomy and comfortable, with a bedroom, living room, bath, and full kitchen. The shower is wonderful—huge, tiled, and with a built-in seat. It’s a perfect location right off Kula Hwy and at the bottom of a road up Haleakala. And breakfast is provided—fresh fruit, milk, and a different, delicious pastry each day. Add in very friendly and helpful hosts, and you can’t go wrong!

My partner and I had the most amazing time at this Kula B&B. Marsha and John were such friendly and helpful hosts and went above and beyond to make our trip special. The b&b cottage was super clean, spacious, and comfortable. We particularly loved watching the sunset from above the orchard and wandering around the fruit trees! It was a welcome and quiet change of pace after being in the very busy Lahaina. Thank you Marsha for a great stay!

August 2021
Marsha and John were generous hosts, providing us with fruit as a gluten free substitute for breakfasts. We were also allowed to pick limes and avocados from their trees. In early mornings, there is often a clear view all the way to the top of Haleakala i before it is shrouded in clouds. And sunsets from this location overlooking North Maui and two other islands. ate spectacular. Though it’s been a number of years since this comfortable apartment was finished, it’s kept immaculately and seems brand new. Kula is a wonderful alternative to the more crowded and touristy lowlands.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely B&B in Kula. It actually exceeded our expectations! It is immaculate, well appointed, and private. Marsha is a wonderful host, and her place is just about perfect--lovely, well appointed and supplied, and located in the best area on Maui. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom great with a beautiful large shower, the kitchen with everything one needs. We are tea drinkers, so Marsha found us a tea kettle, and she was quick and responsive to any need we expressed. A closet with washer and dryer is right outside the front door, with laundry supplies--so convenient. For breakfast Marsha supplied freshly baked, delicious scones, fresh pineapple, strawberries, and papaya, coffee, milk, yogurt, butter--we didn't need to buy a thing. There was also a basket of fresh whole fruit, including lilikoi from their property, which I ate and found to be most unusual and delicious. The views are absolutely gorgeous, the October nights cool and crisp. Paradise! There is a surprising amount of road noise at night, but we slept with the bedroom window wide open; I imagine the noise would be muted if the window were closed. This was a tiny bug in a field of roses.

This is the best VRBO property we have ever stayed in. It had the benefits of a hotel, with the space of a house. Every day we had maid service and a newspaper, along with the kitchen being restocked with fresh fruit, scones, juice, water, milk, and cereal. They even provided blankets and flashlights to take when viewing the sunrise from the park. The owners were wonderful, friendly, and helpful. They answered all our questions about things to do, the best places to snorkel, when to leave to watch the sunrise at the national park, etc. The place is very clean and well-kept.

My husband and I enjoyed this B&B with its comfortable and meticulous accommodations, tranquil setting, and warm and friendly hosts, John and Marsha. The country views from all the windows were beautiful, and we enjoyed the cool Kula breeze. Breakfast was generous, outstanding home made scones as well as delicious fresh fruits and other breakfast goodies. We've probably frequented at least a dozen b & b's, and this is one of the best! We are recommending this place to all our friends. We can't wait to go back!

We had a wonderful time staying in Marsha and John's B & B. The property was very clean, very well stocked and organized. Marsha's scones and fresh cut fruits were generous and tasty (especially if you are planning an early morning sunrise drive up to Haleakala or a drive to Hana). They were gracious enough to let us walk around their fruit and vegetable garden. We recommend this place to anybody visiting Mau'i. I know we will be back hopefully soon. Mahalo!

We had such a wonderful time staying at this beautiful VRBO in Kula. We had such an incredible time in the new apartment that was stocked with fresh scones, water, bottles of juice, milk and fresh fruit. The kitchen was beautiful and fully stocked, the bed was so comfortable and there was a wonderful den with a door leading to the garden. This location is a perfect place not only for exploring the beautiful gardens in the area, making the early trip to Haleakala, visiting the Maui winery( super fun), and the Ranch store. We had a very easy launch from here to Hana. We ate at the delicious Kula bistro and enjoyed coffee in the lovely garden. I highly recommend this facility based on the wonderful hosts, Marsha and John, great location, beautiful accomodations, great central location, and price.
