Unit is nice, bed really comfortable. No A/C and I admit I somehow missed that when I booked so a bit of a shock but in reality you don't need it here. The off shore breeze going through the huge screened lanai keeps things cool. It's really just when getting out of the shower I missed the A/C. I believe many of the condos in this area are without. I would totally stay here again! Fun watching the surfers right there at the unit. Super close to many restaurants and points of interest.

What a wonderful place to stay at. This isn’t like any other rental it feels like you are renting Mike’s personal residence with great decor, island recommendations and tips, along with some books about the island. The condo is well appointed, has comfortable beds along with a variety of items that you likely wouldn’t want to go buy for a short trip. Mike appropriately mentions there is no AC, which at first is a shock when you walk into the condo but after opening the sliding lanai doors, turning on fans, and opening the windows the breeze begins to help. Also love that the condo has a front screen door to allow extra airflow. The condo has a variety of beach toys which were great to use at the beach just down the street. Never used the kitchen but it had most anything you could need. Would definitely stay here again and enjoy the waves and sunsets from the lanai. Only issue we had during our trip was the elevator broke down one afternoon and was still getting serviced the following day, this is out of the host’s control. Would love to stay here again.

A stones throw from the ocean, awesome views of sunsets, surfers, turtles... you couldnt ask for more. The owners put careful thought into providing everything you would need, including things you didnt know you needed. Mike responded very quickly to any question we had. Having stayed at resorts for decades in HI, this condo was everything we were looking for and more. The kitchen and grills allowed us the option of making our own gourmet meals and happy hours, and if you add free parking, it blows away resort vacations. We will definitely be back!

This is an excellent rental choice. The unit is as good as advertised, and the view is even better. The check in process and communication was very efficient. A few others have mentioned this fact but it bears repeating that, like most condos in Hawaii, this unit does not have AC. While opening the sliding doors helps (and listening to the waves hit the shore), I did have some trouble sleeping at night because I was used to a cooler room temperature at home. Overall, I had a fantastic stay and highly recommend this rental home.

This condo is the best place I’ve stayed at in Hawaii! Very clean, comfortable beds, and well stocked with all the necessities. They went the extra mile to make the guests comfortable. The closeness of the property to the water can’t be beat and is exactly what I looked for when staying in Hawaii. We slept listening to the sound of waves and woke up watching the surfers and fishes on water. We also saw turtles feeding off the rocks on our first day! Overall this place is perfect! Plentiful parking space is a bonus! Will stay here again and recommend to friends!

Loved this place. Right on the ocean, enjoyed dinner on the lanai every night to watch the sunset. Slept to the sound of the ocean waves, watched surfers. While no A/C was a little challenging for some of the hot days/evenings, the fans helped us sleep and it cooled off comfortably overnight. Instructions of the use of the facility was very clear and understandable. All the comforts and ease of home. I would highly recommend if staying in Kona.

This is a nice little spot with its own small beach and grassy area, not far from shopping and restaurants. This is NOT close to the resort area, though. It’s a completely different vibe, so be sure this is what you’re after. The apartment is fully stocked and cools off nicely (it’ll be hot when you walk in- just turn on fans, open the balcony door, and give it a minute). Heads up though- the door knob/lock is still broken (mentioned in a review from a few weeks ago) and it is an absolute beast to finagle. And the kids’ room is less than ideal. But for the money, you’re getting a great place.

You cannot be closer to the ocean unless you slept on a boat. The view is fantastic and the location is one of a well known surf area so you get to watch some great surfers.
The condo is spotless and kitchen is very well stocked.

Only had a few days but we really enjoyed our time at this property. It is exactly as described/shown. Don't let the outside of the property sway you (slightly older and some wear and tear); the unit itself is fully updated and beautiful, and those sunsets are amazing! The kitchen had all the essentials - we ended up cooking dinner every night there. The breeze through the lanai was great and we didn't mind the lack of AC. The front bedroom was a bit stuffy, but there are plenty of fans to cool things off. Mike's travel guides were so helpful - especially the different routes and stops along the way. I highly recommend this property for your Kona vacation!

My family of 4 spent a week here in August and I think it's our favorite VRBO rental ever. What makes it so special? The little things....an incredibly detailed binder on the desk that contained every piece of information you'd need about the unit and Kona, decaf coffee in the kitchen, laundry supplies, so many games for all ages, tons of extra bedding and pillows, etc. It was more like staying at a friends house than renting a condo. There are items for the beach and everything you'd need in the kitchen. The complex itself if in a great location as it's close to several beaches and downtown but far enough from downtown to avoid the crowds. The sunsets from the lanai are the best we've EVER seen from any place. Should we be lucky enough to visit Kona again, we would absolutely stay at Kona Bali Kai!

This unit was equipped with what we needed for our 4 day stay. We didn't realize there was no a/c and it was a little stuffy and warm when we arrived around 8 pm but there were several ceiling fans and stand alone fans, along with the open to ocean glass doors it did cool down somewhat. It was exceptionally warm temperatures while we were there. The beds were comfortable and Mike, the host was very accommodating in getting the two single beds together as well for our arrival. We had trouble getting the sliding glass door open and when I called it took all of 60 seconds for him to return my call! Service you can't beat. All in all it was a great place to stay.

Mike’s place was a great place to stay. It was centrally located near downtown Kona.
They had all the amenities of home. Unlike some condo rentals that are kind of sterile, this place has all the comforts of home so that you don’t have to shop for every last little thing on vacation.
Having all the beach/snorkel equipment, coolers for day trips were super helpful.
Pool was great and you see people constantly maintaining the property.
Lastly,I would not worry about the lack of air-conditioning because it definitely cools off at night. You just need to leave the lanai doors open and know that the ocean makes a lot of white noise :) zzzzzzz

Nice condo right on the ocean. Kitchen is well stocked as well as bathrooms. Loved being able to hang out on the patio when we weren’t exploring the island. Sea turtles and fish were visible from the balcony, and we saw pilot whales offshore (with a spotting scope). There is no AC but only one of the days felt uncomfortably warm - you can mostly get by with open windows and fans. Would definitely return!

This was a wonderful place in evry way, comfortable bed, beautifully appointed, but the little things made it absolutely wonderful- coffee, games, first aide kit, watersport supplies, staples ( peanu tbutter) in the fridge, and helpful books. Overall, the property was wonderful. It was nice and clean, great beach view, loved hearing the ocean at night through the screens. The kitchen was wonderfully stocked, coffee bar was super nice. Since we were only staying 3 days it saved us from having to buy condiments, sugar, etc. Just FYI, there is no air conditioning, so if you like it super cold this might not be the place for you! Once we figured out the way the air flowed through the screens as well as using the multiple fans supplied throughout the condo we were mostly good. Only one night where it was fairly warm which was our first night. We enjoyed our stay!

I can’t say enough about this place. For the price, the view and location can not be beat. We woke up every morning and sat on the lanai to drink coffee and watch the surfers. I feel asleep every night listening to the ocean waves. Sure, it’s an older property but it is extremely well kept up. Clean. Nicely decorated. It had everything we needed and more: fully stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, wi-fi, bags to take to the grocery store, beach toys, boogie boards, we even found water shoes for my daughter in the chest on the porch. I seriously could not recommend this place more. There are TVs but we never turned them on in the main rooms. Mike responded quickly when we had an issue with the key but we honestly never needed him much. He also had a notebook full of information about the condo AND all the local attractions. HIGHLY recommend this condo!!! Would definitely rebook if we come back to Kona.

This place has a great view! What really took us by surprise was the kitchen and fridge. We have stayed at dozens of rental places and this one takes the cake! The first thing we do when we arrive at a condo is look at what is in the kitchen and what we need to purchase for our week. We were shocked to open the fridge and see most of the stuff we can use. (Usually the fridge is almost bare).... The view of this property owner is to allow the renter before to leave items in the fridge... For us we found Eggs, Some sodas, Yogurt that was still good and lots of condiments. In the freezer was some popsicles. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we could need to cook. We did run out of Mustard so purchased one and left it behind... It was also nice at checkout to not have to throw things away that the next person could use. Simple things as packaged ice cream cones... and soda's we didn't finish... I was worried about the not having AC for the week...but with the double sliding glass doors we got a good flow of air... The tide pools out front of the unit was fun to explore... Great place to stay!

The pictures were accurate - the condo is right on the water making for a fantastic view of the ocean from the balcony. Amazing view from lanai. Heard the ocean all night long. Appreciated the comfy lanai furniture for reading watching the ocean and surfers and eating our meals. Well equipped. Beds awful. Master bedroom super soft. Twins super hard — my son slept on the couch because so uncomfortable. Also could hear the road from the second bedroom. Strange odor from freezer/ fridge — best guess is the open condiments left by past guest had spoiled. Pool right next to parking area and not inviting due to the location. Towels need to be replaced. Not soft at all. Lots of info provided by host. Disposal not working and he had it fixed right away. Okay in January not to have a/c but guess it would be really hot in the summer.

During COVID book your tours early (as soon as you buy plane tickets!). Manta ray night snorkel was out of this world! Snorkel Safari with Kaimana Ocean Safari was amazing!!!!! Fair Winds morning snorkel tour is not to be missed. Snorkeled from shore but visibility and access to wildlife better on there tours. Worth every penny! Aloha!

This is a wonderful top floor condo located right on the ocean. Perfect for folks who want to fall asleep to ocean sounds and eat dinner watching sunset and surfers. Mike has equipped the place with almost anything you can think you might need to enjoy a stay on the Big Island - from binoculars to fins and a fully equipped kitchen. Very nice property on the top-level that provided excellent ocean views/breezes. We enjoyed sitting on the lanai and watching the surfers as well as eating while having refreshing beverages.
Easy access to condo off the elevator and having luggage carts made the move into the room easy. Pool & hot tub were small but not crowded.
The condo was comfortable and was well stocked w/ all the amenities we needed. Mike G (the host) was very responsive for any questions we had.
Great location to travel to/from the west side of the island as well as access to Volcanoes National Park, Hilo and the northern side (Hawi) of the island- all were within 2 hours (only because the speed limits and drivers obey the speed limits 👍).

The condo is well stocked with kitchen supplies, cookware and beach items. You will need a car as it is not within walking distance to the main shopping area. A must do is Da Poke shop which is on-site.

We stayed 5 days at the end of our 2 week trip to Hawaii and it was the perfect way to end the vacation. Very clean property, comfortable beds and everything you could need in the kitchen for meal prep. We spent a lot of mornings and evenings on the lanai enjoying the view. Added bonus that I may have missed is that the water is so close and clear that you can watch the fish and turtles very clearly, right from the lanai! If we ever return to the big island we will 100% stay here again.

The only negative was that the condo didn't have a/c -which I didn't notice before I booked. It got pretty steamy/ humid in the condo even with the amazing ocean breezes and all of the fans running.
We discovered this is pretty typical in Hawaii in general, as all of the restaurants and stores we visited -even the airport was not air conditioned.
We very much enjoyed our stay. Hawaii is such a beautifully diverse island. We hope to be return some day.

Mike's place was really great, from the amazing 4th-floor views of Kona sunsets to the well-stocked kitchen. It had a coffee table full of board games and card games, two different sized coolers for day trips and a ton of beach toys & snorkel gear. Each room even had nice USB and 120V charging stations for electronic devices. The water is not great for swimming, but we saw syrfers every day and you can see amazing lava rocks, turtles and urchins.

My wife made me promise that I would note that this was one of the best stocked short term rentals. Many kitchen supplies. Hairdryers in both bathrooms. We watched surfers from the balcony. Plenty of space.

If you book this condo you will not regret it, it is a wonderful place to stay while you are on the big island. The views of the oven from the lanai are amazing! We watched the surfers, turtles and the waves. Not a great place to swim for my younger daughter but we still got in and played in the swallows. Mile was great to work with and his condo is supplied with everything that we needed to have a great day at the beach soaking up the rays!

This is a premier location. I could have spent my entire vacation on the fantastic lanai! Mike’s unit had everything you could want to enjoy the Kona coast. I’d like to keep it my little secret! But, it is a must stay kind of place. Mike is super responsive. An excellent host if there are any questions. I definitely recommend.

Although we had some hiccups at the check-in at the beginning, we were still so happy about the stay.
The condo has a magnificent ocean view. The ocean is about 15 feet away to the building. In the morning, waking up in the sound of ocean wave, sitting in the balcony, it is so relaxed and joyful to enjoy "surfing show" performed the whole day. The condo also has almost all the amenities we need. At evening, our family sitting in the balcony to have a "sunset" dinner. Unforgettable!
We will definitely try to stay here again next time visit big island. Also strongly recommended to all my friends..

Having stayed at Kona Bali Kai around 15 years ago, it was a fairly known entity for us. Mike’s place was well equipped and he carefully communicated with us about the stay, even calling to make sure everything was good with the condo.
The bathrooms have been nicely renovated and although we didn’t use the kitchen much it was well equipped for coffee and everything we needed.
They also have a nice selection of beach gear which we didn’t put to much use having brought some of our own.
We enjoyed snorkeling at Two Step and Captain cook monument (bring lots of water for the hike out) and we really enjoyed “discovering” the beaches on the Kohala coast. Punaluu was also worth the drive.

We had a great stay at this property. The Condo was clean and well equipped. We had a bit of trouble with the door lock upon our arrival, but we called Mike and he was very helpful in helping us. He called back later to make sure all was well. The views from the balcony are amazing, and you can go to sleep with the sounds of the ocean waves. We would highly recommend this property.

Although there's much to see and do on the Big Island of Hawaii, it was difficult for us to pry ourselves from the lovely lanai and view from this condo. The condo itself is quite comfortable and was stocked with the basics to make it our second home for 10 days. Mike was helpful from the beginning of the booking process throughout our stay - especially that first day when we arrived all exhausted and I was having trouble finding the key code! Yes, the pool area needs to be updated which we hear is coming but we wanted beaches so never used it. In fact, this unit is far away from the chattering of the children in the pool - we heard only waves and sea breezes in the condo and on the lanai. Lovely stay, thanks Mike!

Kona Bali Kai 405 was very roomy for 2 people. Was in contact with the owner several times to rectify various problems. Condo could use a thorough cleaning and replacement and addition of kitchen contents. WiFi needs replacing.Mike was responsive to our concerns and committed to addressing them. Sunsets were spectacular from the lanai! The sea turtles and surfers right in front of the condo kept us entertained throughout our stay. Thanks Mike for all the Big Island information you provided us in the condo. Certainly assisted us in enjoying everything the Big Island has to offer!

From the moment you open the door and look straight thru the condo to the ocean you feel good things await you. The condo itself was spotless. It had everything you need from a well stocked kitchen to very nice furnishings. Loved that washer and dryer. The lanai was my spot. Starting with morning coffee and ending with and evening libation. To lay on the lounges during the day listening to the waves the stress just disappeared. Looking for sea turtles was an everyday event. Watching surfers and boogie boarders was amazing. The complex is well kept and secure. Mike does a good job maintain the condo. I know the salt air is relentless in weathering things quickly. Would stay there again.

This property is probably the closest you will get to the water, short of sleeping on the shoreline!! The view and sound of the ocean are the main attraction along with watching surfers of all ages and breathtaking sunsets! We spent many hours playing games and eating meals on the lani.
Mike is very accommodating and the condo is nicely arranged for the size. I especially liked that it was on the top floor which made it very private from the backside. We had 6 adults in this unit, it was pretty cozy, probably most comfortable with 4 people. There is no air conditioning but the fans and large open doors help move the air nicely. Only one night of our stay was uncomfortably warm. Summer months might be an issue. The property is located on the main drag so it's very busy but easy to get to town! It was nice to have easy parking and constantly see security wandering in and out of the garages. Security is strict, which is good, but don't forget to have your parking permit on the dash or you WILL get one warning before towing.
If you want to be "on the water", love the sound of the ocean and sunsets this is seriously the place to be!! Thank you Mike!

We enjoyed staying almost 3 weeks at this beautiful condo. The pictures are spot on and the owner was amazing to work with. We spent much time enjoying the lanai, reading (and napping) on the lounge chairs, listening to the roar of the ocean and warmed by the sunshine on our toes. We have been to Hawaii many times, but this was our first time on the Big Island. The condo was a wonderful oasis after a day of exploring and a nice place to relax during a day "at home." We were able to visit, and share treats, with the neighbors and everyone was very friendly. Never felt like we were outsiders, but warmly welcomed with Aloha.
We look forward to our next visit to Hawaii and the many places yet to explore. This is a wonderful home base and we will be back.

WOW-Great View! Great location! This Oceanfront Penthouse Condo was so comfortable we almost didn't want to leave at the end of our stay. It definitely was a home away from home. The owners have such aloha in providing everything to make your stay enjoyable. Comfortable bed, rain shower, double sinks, Charisma bath towels in master suite with the sounds of the ocean and spectacular view. Enjoyed my morning coffee and breakfast sitting on the lanai watching all the surfers and the continuous waves. Very relaxing!
