Our stay was good but I doubt we would book there again. Since we were unable to stay in our original west Maui location, we had to make this work at such short notice. Condo was adequately furnished with a great view. The owners were nice and were responsive.
Only two gripes were the following:
1. Was a small space, esp in the bedroom and bathroom. Space was limited and I somewhat had to live out of my suitcase while offering up the dresser space to my wife.
2. For half of the time, there was a sewer like smell (which was really bad at times). We came to find out it was from the rotting decaying fish carcuses from a fish pond that was drying up across the street. It’s for this reason I wouldn’t book this place again or any other unit within Sugar Beach Resort. We chose to travel more around the island to avoid this nasty smell. It was unavoidable around the entire complex (pool, beach, balcony, parking lot… etc) when the wind would pickup.

PH34 has amazing Lanai views right on the ocean. The condo is equipped with the necessities needed for your stay. We had friends who stayed on the second floor and got wind blown sand on their lanai daily. Being up in the PH we had no issues with sand. Condo is very comfortable. Would definitely stay in this unit again if available for our future Maui trip. Kevin was a super host!!!

It was a great location. The beach and pool area were awesome and that’s where we spent most of our time. After the fires, even though we weren’t in danger. We tried to change our flights nothing was available. Our checkout time was 11am and our flight was at 9pm. Our original plan was to spend all that day in Lahaina. Since that all changed I reached out to Kevin to see if we could get a late checkout. He responded immediately and said he’ll check a few things and get back to me. A short time later he emailed and said his guests coming in that day cancelled. He changed the housekeeping and we could stay until time for our flight. We were so relieved and thankful. We would definitely stay there again.

Wanted to take our teen boys to catch some waves. This condo was a great location- walking distance to the ABC store for quick snacks and amazing shaved ice at Ululani’s. Condo was neat and tidy, stocked with plenty of kitchen supplies to make our meals to save a couple bucks. Bathroom also came with plenty of toiletries and beauty supplies. Highly recommend!

This was our Second Time staying at Sugar Beach Resort. It’s a perfect Location for getting around the island . Awesome Beachfront penthouse condo. Having Beach towels, chairs, boogie boards & umbrellas is great addition.
We will stay here again if it’s available when we come back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners provided everything we needed—even providing a second body board—and more. We appreciated all the extra touches which really added comfort. We had aa great stay at this penthouse condo! It was so convenient to all the activities that we had planned. Sugar Beach is a long beach that is great to walk along. Sugar Bay Resort is an older condo complex but this unit has been renovated and looks great! Well stocked with all you need!

Everything was wonderful. Great location, the condo was what we expected. However, we were not told that we needed to register with the office. The office reached out to us on the third day. Everything was fine and we didn’t get our car towed. We would definitely go back.

The view from the condo is hard to match or beat. It’s also on one of the most walkable beaches.
The condo has been refreshed, but oddly they chose to have you walk through the bathroom to get to the bedroom which is not conducive to full privacy if that’s an issue for you.
It is terribly windy at this location in the spring, some days uncomfortably so. I had the back of a lounger blow up from a gust and hit me on the head! We understood that it is not this way at other times of the year, so take note.
There is a fully stocked kitchen and coffee maker, which was lovely. Compared to other condos we have stayed at, especially for an almost 2 week stay, we were disappointed in some of the everyday supplies that were left for our use. E.g, they have a note to remove the garbage often to avoid small bugs but left only two extra garbage bags, so we had to buy some. They also only left 3 dishwasher pods and three washing machine pods. Again, had to purchase some because with the limited supply of towels these were gone quickly. The air conditioning never fully cool the condo or bedroom, which was disappointing.
While the bath towels are limited, they do thoughtfully provide beach towels, a couple of Bahama chairs and a small soft cooler, boogie board, etc.
The location is a prefect jumping off point for seeing the sights Maui has to offer. The view from the lanai and location on the beach are the highlights of this condo.

We enjoyed our stay here even though the weather was terrible while in Maui. It was nice while we were stuck in doors to have a nice place to watch movies or sit on the lanai and read, while enjoying the sounds of the waves.

We were disappointed that the entire pool area was closed for 21/2 days during our one week stay (no explanation other than "unexpected repairs"; unit owner did give us a credit on our rental for the inconvenience); we also had problems with the TV/cable system; Marco (on-site manager) was very helpful in getting that situation resolved.
We were surprised at the traffic congestion on Maui and the Kehei area in particular (yes, we were in 'high' season), but waiting thru two or three cycles at traffic lights was not unusual. Bottom line, there are just too many vehicles on this small island!

The view is fantastic and it has a good central location in Maui if you plan on traveling to other parts of the island. The layout is odd, you have to go through the bathroom to get to the bedroom. They skimp on a few things like no kleenex, only 3 dishwasher tablets for a week stay, no luggage stands, and it is one of the only condos in the building that has no patio blinds (not a big deal if you get up early). Our check-in code was wrong, but that was resolved quickly after talking with the property manager. Having a washing machine in the unit was a nice bonus and a good way to lighten your suitcase.

Had a great stay here in Maui! Unit was well stocked with everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable (kitchen utensils/cookware, condiments, even Tabasco sauce, beach towels, beach chairs/umbrellas and cooler, even dish & laundry pods). Ocean view from the lanai was amazing. Beach right in back of the resort, loved listening to the waves. We had issues closing the sofa bed the morning after we arrived. Island rep, Marco, was easy to reach, came within reasonable time to assess what the issue was. Turned out it was user error, lol. My 2 teenage kids said the pullout sofa bed mattress was comfortable. Even before our stay, Kevin was very responsive to all my messages. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Hope to be back again (soon)!

Ok, so technically, Sugar Beach is on Maalaea Bay in N. Kihei, but you get the idea. Great property in a perfect location to explore the island. The owner was quick to respond to questions and his unit has been wonderfully updated. The A/C worked just fine, although it had been so unseasonably warm that the owner added a fan in the bedroom, which we appreciated SO MUCH that we turned off the A/C and left the patio doors open all night to hear the waves. I don't know why other reviewers could be grumpy about that. The property was just fine considering it's 30-40 years old. The pool was closed for service during the first half of our visit. It was full when it reopened... but we didn't even bother to go in. The weather was so spectacular and the waves in the bay were so much gentler than anywhere else, that we spent part of every day on the beach just steps away from the pool. In this case, the pool is a "nice to have" not a "gotta have."
The location is a great jumping off point for all-day sightseeing. Docks for snorkeling trips are 10 minutes away. The restaurants and bars of Kihei are ~15-20 minutes away. Wimea is 25-30 minutes away, and the tourist trappings of Lahaina are about 30 minutes away.
Bonus points for an unexpected amenity. The Sand Witch is an actual dive bar right on the property that makes great sandwiches. Mommy and daddy deserve a cocktail while the kiddos have a chicken sammie or tuna melt.
We will be keeping this property's info handy for future trips to Maui.

The apartment complex was pretty old and run down, as was the unit although yes slightly updated inside but still older. The AC never reached the bedroom so the sleep was pretty warm which we aren’t a fan of. The view of the water was very pretty, but overall I wouldn’t stay here again. The owner was kind when responding to a question. We didn’t use the pool or any other outside amenities so I can’t comment on them.

The location of this condo was absolutely perfect, we were within minutes basically of everything I wanted to do! The property manager, Marco‘s was spot on! We had a slight issue with the sofa bed and within three hours there was a new sofa delivered to our condo! Now that’s service! Highly recommend this condo!

This was a great location for our family with young kids. They loved the pool and hot tub and beach right outside. They made friends with other kids and enjoyed playing. We also liked having a full kitchen and being able to eat some meals there. We would definitely stay here again!

The unit was clean and had beach gear readily available. The pool water was a bit murky so we didn’t go in the pool..The view was great. The water was warm. The bathroom was open to the bedroom so not much privacy. Five minutes to great food. Recommend Maui brewing, Fred’s, mooses. Overall great experience.

The condo was nice, clean and accurately represented by the photos. Mornings and evenings on the lanai were wonderful. The beach is great for walking in the mornings and swimming anytime. We didn't need anything while we were there, but marco ,the property manager, introduced himself to us and checked on our visit before we left. If you stay here, walk a few short minutes down the beach and across the street for wonderful pastries in the morning at sugar beach bakery or delicious shave ice in the afternoons at Ululani's. Great location with less than a 30 minute drive to Kihei or Lahaina. Would definitely stay again.

We had an excellent experience renting this condo at Sugar Beach. Its really all about the view from the lanai and being oceanfront. We watched whales and listened to the waves crashing, all from the comfort of the condo. The condo was clean, well kitted out and had most everything we needed. A small problem with the beach umbrella was handled quickly by Marco the property manager and the owner Kevin who happened to be on the Island. I would rent this condo again.

This place has it all, beautiful views of the beach and ocean. Every morning and late afternoon we would sit on the lanai and watch the whales. The beach was never crowded and the water was calm so it made for great swimming. Close proximity to stores and areas of interest. The bonus was that there is a great bar/grill within a short walk. This is our 3rd time to Maui and by far our favorite condo/location. We will definitely be staying here again!!

Pick a different unit. The pictures look great but the condo was dirty and in disrepair; walls are dirty; rugs have multiple stains; the bathroom is moldy and there’s no toilet door (weird); kitchen cupboard broken, coffee maker broken; patio furniture rusty and unusable. Room wasn’t ready at check-in. We were directed to contact Marco, he wouldn’t reply. On our last morning my wife caught Marco attempting to entering our room before check-out (creepy). This unit is poorly managed.

We enjoyed our first time in Maui. My wife and I enjoyed the balcony and listening to the waves. The sliding glass and screen doors were not in great shape make getting in and out not easy..We did not use the amenities down stairs as there are so many really good beaches close bye and so many things to do! I feel like I’m Maui it is more about what u plan to do then about where u stay. I liked the location of Kihei. Right in the middle and a short to modest drive to everything.

Great stay at Sugar Beach Resort! The unit is tasteful and clean! The resort property is very nice and has a great local restaurant Dina's Sandwitch that you have to visit. The check in process was easy and the beach was great. We were here during a crazy storm so didn't use the beach much as the waves were very strong. Kihei is a great town and so glad we stayed here!

Condo was exactly as described in the property advertisement. Bed was comfortable and we didn't want for anything. It was wonderful to wake up every morning to the roar of the surf and to watch the outrigger canoes racing up and down the coast. Perfect location for beach walking. Sugar Beach Resort is a well maintained property, and is centrally located to all tourist sites. Definitely would rent PH34 again. Aloha

We had an amazing time and picked the perfect spot for our anniversary! We love our condo. The communication and process were really clear and helpful. This condo was not in the most populated area but was in a great spot for beginning travels around the island. Also, the beach and view from the condo were the BEST! It had a strange floor plan (you have to go through the bathroom to get to the bedroom), and could have benefitted from some curtains in the living room, art, and fresh paint, but our stay was still enjoyable. You can tell it’s an older property that has been refreshed, but it could still use some more refreshing. It’s on the top floor, far from the elevator and the walkway turns into a wind tunnel. But because we spent much of our time away from the condo or enjoying the view from the balcony, none of that was really a major issue. We even got to see fireworks from the balcony coming from a boat in the bay!

I stayed here with my partner and we absolutely loved this rental! The condo was clean, and the photos don’t do the view from the lanai justice — one of our favorite parts of our stay was enjoying breakfast out on the lanai every morning! I will say this condo is PERFECT for a couple - the bathroom is open to the bedroom, so if you’re staying with a colleague or something like that it might be weird. But it was no bother at all for us! The location was central and perfect for what we had planned for the island. Check in and out process was so smooth and both the owner and property manager were great to work with. We will definitely stay here again next time we are in Maui! Mahalo!

My wife and I decided to extend our stay in Maui and found an absolute gem. The Sugar Beach area, and Sugar Beach Resort were a new experience for us. We loved it! The unit was perfectly sized, clean and what a spectacular ocean front view from the penthouse location! The owner and property manager were completely gracious and on point. We most definitely will be coming back to Maui in the future and incorporating more of our stay at this amazing property and area. Not to mention the great food and markets within 15 minutes from the resort. Additionally it is nice that Wailea is a short drive south too! Thanks Kevin for the opportunity :)

Sugar Beach Resort was well maintained and the condo was perfect, 5 star all around! Everything was extremely clean and well stocked (tp, soaps, shampoo etc.). The kitchen is beautiful and we enjoyed making breakfast and sitting on the patio overlooking the ocean and hearing the waves crashing. The location is fantastic and close to lots of restaurants and shopping.
Added bonus was that it has a washer/dryer and ice maker.
One thing to be aware of is that you have to walkthrough the bathroom to get to the bedroom but this was not a big deal for us since it was just two of us.
We appreciated that the management leaves leftover things like coffee, condiments, sunscreen for the next guest so be sure to check in before you go shopping.
The communication between with host was by far the best I’ve experienced.

This was a great location on a beautiful beach. Loved having a full ocean view from the lanai and the sounds of the waves through the whole place. Both the owner and on-Island agent were great and helpful when we have questions. The kitchen was well stocked and the bathroom had good shower supplies. It was also easy to get almost anywhere on the island from this central location and the parking lot was never full. We loved our honeymoon here and will come back next time we’re on Maui!

Love staying at Sugar Beach. Great location, quiet, lovely beach walk every morning. Kevin (the owner) is always great to work with. Easily available by message /phone if you need him. This unit is on the top Penthouse floor. Newly remodeled, clean, well stocked, amazing views. Can't wait to come back!
