We stayed for a week. Very chill environment. Perfect for families. We have kids ages 8 & 10 who love the outdoors. Seeing turtles in our backyard and snorkeling with them was the greatest experience for us. Note: it can get warm in the condo but a little dip in the pool or beach can definitely help cool you down so we made it work. Also, the backyard beach is rocky in most areas so be careful. Cool spot especially for snorkeling!

John has a wonderful place. The view was awesome. There was a pool outside to use. The location was right on the beach. It was peaceful to stay there. Everything was near by. We saw many sea turtles there. I snorkeled there and saw beautiful fish. The grounds people do an amazing job with the flowers and plants. The area was clean and quiet. It was great! I hope to return some day.

Overall Great Stay. Condo had 3/4 view of the water. Great walk down to free onsite BBQ's. Snorkel Gear could use updating, but location to swim with the turtles is great. The sandy beach at southside edge of property and was easy to access. Nicely stocked kitchen and pantry. Shopping and Restaurants close by.

We came here to celebrate our honeymoon. The check-in wasn’t until 3pm because the cleaners needed more time so we went to the beach. Once we arrived to the property the cleaning was poorly done pretty surprised for the amount of allotted time. There is not a TV in the bedroom only in the living room. The bed is on rollers and moves very easily, it’s our honeymoon. If there are inconsiderate people above, you will definitely hear them. The laundry room costs and has a $5 purchase fee. Also during our stay one of the cables fell down because the duct tape was supporting it anymore. The actual neighborhood is beautiful but wish there was more transparency about the unit itself.

Overall a very nice stay. Incredible view right out the patio door, and the very nice beach is just across the lawn. We actually had sea turtles swim right past us numerous times. I got to blow the conch shell signalling the sunset. Speaking of sunsets, it's the perfect spot to see them, just down on the lawn overlooking the ocean. Also saw breaching whales. Also convenient is the grocery store about a mile down the road. There is AC but only in the one bedroom at the very end of the unit, so the rest of the unit does get warm. I made the unfortunate decision to sit out on the patio at night for a few hours in shorts and sandals and woke up with around 150 very large and extremely itchy bites covering my legs (chiggers?). Not the fault of the condo, just mentioning it so others don't do that. Just wear insect repellent. No bugs inside, though. Other than those things, it's a nice place to call home...nice kitchen and bathroom/shower, and the grounds are lovely and the location and view are great. I'd go back. Mahalo!

We stayed at John’s and Val’s condo for two glorious weeks! The location is perfect! The grounds are beautiful and everyone we met was friendly! The beach, unfortunately went away due to trade winds the day before we arrived, but
there were plenty of other great beaches nearby! The grocery store is close, and there are many choices for dining in the area. We love Maui and especially whale watching when the humpbacks migrate there. We highly recommend Ultimate Whale Watch….they never disappoint!

We had an incredible time staying at John’s condo. The place was quiet and had gorgeous views. It was in close proximity to Lahaina, and a great place for us to base our enjoyment of the island. The only issue we had was the shower backed up when we first arrived, but John was very quick to respond, and it turned out the valve on the back spigot just needed to be closed. After that it worked perfect for the entirety of our stay. John was a great host and provided excellent and timely communication. We would definitely stay here again.

Apartment was in serious need of improvements. Bathtub/Shower was grungy, new mattress in bedroom sorely needed, replace clock in kitchen(no hands), loose the shag rug in living room, replace beach chairs, and fix fan in living room.

First time to Maui. Loved the location/property. If you are looking for a place thats not as touristy and has a great combination of recreation, food, etc this is your place. The property is beautiful and John’s condo is great. Beautiful views from the lanai and nice ground floor access. Being summer it was warm, but the A/C unit in the bedroom was a lifesaver and made it bearable in the evening for sleeping. This unit has everything you need (minus a baking sheet) but we made do. John was very communicative and checked in on us periodically to make sure we had all we needed. Would recommend staying here!

Great rental for relaxation away from crowded kaanapali with its own beach. Lots of turtles, one swam under my boogie board. Everything you need provided by John and a close walk to Farmers market store with great smoothies and produce. Miss Arepa ( Venezuelan) is very good and the food trucks a mile down the road offer a variety of options.

John's place has everything you need for a short/long stay with friends or family. Beach chairs, snorkel gear, boards, and beach towels were provided for your use if you wanted to explore Maui's many awesome beaches! John was very good at communicating with us and ensured we were comfortable and had everything that we needed. Our only point of improvement would be to upgrade the AC. We only used AC during one night of our stay, but when we did, it was very loud which could be troublesome for light sleepers.

John's condo was the perfect place for our Maui stay. Amazing views and a beautiful property. Any time we were there it was so nice to have the back door open and have the ocean breeze. Kitchen looked recently redone. If looking to stay in West Maui I would absolutely recommend this.

Gorgeous landscaping around the grounds and pool. The view from the back patio is delightful. You are steps from the ocean. Nighttime star gazing while listening to the ocean was a highlight.

We had a great time! John’s condo is very well located (on the property with a phenomenal view on the ocean and on the island). The place is clean and stays cold during the day. The A/C is only in the bedroom, but honestly isnt needed anywhere else. The kitchen has all the equipment needed to make food (even a dishwasher!). We really enjoyed the beach equipment at our disposition (Beach chairs/towel, boogie boards, snorkel masks…).
We are very happy to have rented this place for our vacations!

This is a great place for you if you want a low-key, quiet, cozy place in a great location. This complex is low-rise (3 story). The spotless unit looks out on lushly planted grounds, and is steps from a real pool (not postage stamp sized) and the ocean. At the same time, you are near lots of conveniences and a reasonable drive from great beaches. John and Valori have thoughtfully provided great beach gear - from plush towels to chairs, umbrellas and snorkel gear. They were onsite and very responsive to requests and questions. Do be aware that in the winter at least, the condo's beach may be bare of sand due to storms and currents - as it was during our stay.

This was a great rental during our stay in Maui. John was very prompt with communication and answered all my questions. The unit is located on a beautiful property and all amenities are exactly as pictures. We loved staying here because beach chairs, snorkel gear, cooler, and umbrella were provided. This made our beach days much more enjoyable. The grounds on this property are beautiful and make you feel like your in a tropical paradise. Our favorite part was watching the sunset each night . We didn’t swim in the ocean at the swim ladder due to arriving after a big storm and opted to go to nearby beaches with clearer water. Overall, we would definitely stay here again and the condo was fabulous!!!! Very clean and well taken care of. Wonderful place to stay during your Maui vacation :)

This unit is as described in the listing. It’s what that is not listed which makes it special. If you like a beach with no more than 10 people at a time, you will love this place. The snorkeling is amazing. We swam close to turtles everyday right there on the property. We traveled to other destinations in the island to snorkel but none were better than right off our own private beach. Shopping is close buy for groceries and everything you need to cook in the unit. Gas grills are on the ocean front to grill your steaks or seafood on the property. The grills are scrubbed daily and each night they look new when you go to cook. Check in was a snap and great communication from the owner. The grounds are meticulously landscaped and maintained. It is not a new property but everything exceeded our expectations.

This was our second time staying in a unit managed by John, and we would keep coming back! Everything about the unit, location, communicating with John, was absolutely perfect! My husband and I were there in our honeymoon and when planning the trip we considered staying at a different location, like trying out a resort, but when weighing the pros and cons of each John’s unit won out and there’s no doubt we made the best decision. The beach access and spectacular views from the unit, the kitchen amenities, and the unit location, we’re just wonderful. We spent most every morning and evening watching the sunrise and sunset and spent most days at the private beach: less crowds, we could come and go as we please, run back to the unit and grab a drink if needed, at it was well shielded from the bit of wind we had while there. We loved every minute and are ready for our next visit!

The condo was clean and very conveniently located. The grounds are kept so beautiful and the pool was larger than expected. The BBQs are cleaned daily and easily available at dinner time.
We loved the detail of the tiki torches being lit at sunset which just accentuated the beautiful views from that property.
We only have great things to say about the condo and the host who made us feel welcome and had all of the amenities (snorkel gear, beach chairs and beach umbrella) ready for us on our deck which faced the ocean.

Great little condo. We are from Washington State and not used to the heat, lol. The A/C in the bedroom was a lifesaver. The rest of the condo gets very warm, specially when cooking, but not a deal breaker. The grounds, OMG, amazingly beautiful! John is the best host you could ask for. He responds quickly to any questions. Seems to be a laid back, cool cat kind of guy. Loved the full size fridge, since we packed in our frozen meats to cook at the condo. Swimming with the sea life (specially the turtles) was out of this world magical. The pool was perfect and never crowded.
Hopefully we won't wait so long to do it again. Can hardly wait to come back. Best VACA ever! Thanks so much.

Great property with gorgeous grounds. You will have an incredible time here. Only thing I can say is they ask to not run a/c too long or it will freeze up. We never had this happen but for the price I should be able to run the a/c all day to keep cool if I want maybe time to replace the a/c unit

We loved our stay at John’s condo. We woke up to a beautiful sunrise from our lanai each morning and swam with turtles at the private beach (also a turtle sanctuary) each day. The unit isn’t located right on the water (set one building back), but it still has a beautiful view of the ocean. The property is lush and beautiful with tropical trees, plants and flowers. We enjoyed the heated pool and tiki torches that are lit on property each night. Parking was never an issue and our unit was above the laundry facilities, which was very convenient. The condo itself was very nice and stocked with most things we needed, especially in the kitchen. There is even laundry detergent in the bathroom closet available for use. We appreciated the beach chairs, beach umbrella, snorkeling gear, beach towels, and boogie board that were provided for us to use. I do recommend picking up extra toilet paper and paper towels if you stay longer than a few days, as we ran out, but there is a store right down the street. Also, the air conditioner is located in the bedroom, so that is the coolest room in the unit, but the entire condo cools off in the evening if you leave both screens open (both the front and back screens lock for safety). John was responsive when we reached out to him and allowed us to leave extra toilet paper, unused waters, a new beach umbrella, etc. for other guests to use vs. having to throw it all away. The condo is in a great location and was very safe. Both the property and unit were incredibly clean and well maintained. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to staying at this beautiful property again. Thank you for a wonderful stay John.

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon at John's condo and it couldn't have been more perfect. It was exactly as described. John even had beach chairs, a beach umbrella and snorkle gear for us to use that I honestly don't know what we would have done without it. Perfect location for those unfamiliar with Maui. It is minutes from beaches and restaurants. There were food trucks just down the street which were convenient. We were just about 10 minutes from Whalers Village. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need. We really enjoyed our stay and home to return one day.

We enjoyed our stay with you very much. It was quiet, well kept and had a beautiful view with a short step to the ocean. Daily visits from the sea turtles on the beach made my days even brighter.
This is more of a FYI than a complaint...the AC for us mainlanders not quite accustomed to the humidity (not to mention I’ve heard it was unseasonably hot for June) wasn’t completely adequate for the full unit. We slept well with it in the bedroom space but it gets a little toasty.
John and Valori has great communication if we needed them but the checkin process was so simple, we had no need. Nice to know though that they were available 24/7 if necessary.

Nice accommodations....sad there wasn't a dining table...well equipped....lots of beach toys and equipment...a beautiful view of the ocean and a very short walk to the pool and water...linens were very worn and the sheets felt like kleenex they were so thin...mattress needs to be replaced as does the bedding and pillows.

All the reviews I read were spot on regarding John's condo and the grounds it is on. The grounds were beautiful and sitting on the patio sipping a glass of wine in the evening was grand. The only downside was that there is a little noise from the road out front and the movement up and down the stairs to other units. I would suggest a couple more plates and bowels as the dishwasher was never even half full before having to run it to have dinnerware. That is not a big deal to most, but we've been living in a serious doubt for a couple of years and we may be a little more sensitive to water waste. None of this deters me from giving the site a 4 star rating. We've already decided to come back on our 75th anniversary. Hey, gotta think positive.

I would have given this property more stars, but we were without electricity for 4 hours during the day, the second day of our stay. I understand all of building 5 was affected.There was no fore warning. When I went to check on it, there was a sign posted on the banister. Fortunately, we had friends staying in a different building.

My wife and I spent close to two weeks in West Maui and stayed at John and Val's Kuleana condo. We cannot say enough about our vacation. Comfortable condo, impeccable grounds, the Ocean few feet away, dreamy sunsets. Shopping for anything was minutes away and there was no lack of excellent restaurants. We do believe that what made the difference was the professionalism and friendliness of the condo owners, who befriended us, helped with any questions and addressed any needs with speed and efficiency. Highly recommended!
[Note: During the same vacation, we also stayed at another condo at the same resort for a few days (due to booked up dates) which was right on the beach, but was not nearly as comfortable inside and did not have some of the niceties of the #506 condo, such as enough storage, a comfortable living room with flat screen TV, or those great beach chairs!]
