I was here with my girlfriend for my aunt’s birthday (coincidentally she lives in the condo directly upstairs!!) and we really enjoyed our stay.
The condo was super clean, two full bathrooms was a dream, and all newly renovated felt like a very good time. It’s far enough south that you don’t have to feel the bustle of downtown Kona, but close enough you don’t feel like it’s a burden to get around. The property is great and right next to the ocean. I was able to check out a couple other properties my family stayed in and honestly this is just a great complex filled with dutiful owners.
If I come back to the big island and my aunt’s condo isn’t available, I will definitely stay here again!

We came over to Kona to support my best friend compete in the world iron man championship. The accomodation was just what we needed as a base and chill out zone. The location is amazing and having the three pools on the property was epic! A great sized kitchen we could have stayed for weeks! Having a whole beach fun cupboard full of toys and was perfect for a beach day. I give this accommodation a 10/10!!! And we will be back again :)

Spacious and Hawaiian decor throughout. Absolutely loved the flooring, area rugs in bedroom, kitchen cabinets, and artwork. All three swimming pools and hot tubs maintained, loved the quiet pool the most. Loved our lanai view of the bay and all the natural greenery. Price was excellent. Will return ASAP!!!!

We absolutely loved Kanaola! The condo was ample, and our host provided everything we could possibly need and more. We loved watching sunsets from the pool, snorkeling nearby, swimming with Manta Rays, and fishing off the volcanic rocks. My son even managed to land both a grouper and a bluefin trevally! Lovely space to rest and relax. We did struggle a bit initially with the lack of air conditioning, but were able to adjust as we became more accustomed to the heat. We will 100% stay here again... and again and again!

Had a wonderful and relaxing stay in a most beautiful setting. The complex in which our rented condo was in went beyond all expectations. Manicured grounds, multiple pools, hot tubs BBQs, friendly staff (loved Kenny), quiet except for the pounding of the waves. Many hours spent on lanai and at Ocean Pool. The condo itself had everything you could ask for including extra snorkeling gear, boogie boards, beach chairs, beach mats and even water shoes. Unit was quite large for a 1 bedroom, lots of room, good sized kitchen and all of the required utensils, pots and pans etc to make those great meals. Wonderful view from the lanai of the bay and hillside. Had a few four legged guests come and say hello intermittently during evening lanai time so best to keep the screen door shut. Bed was very comfortable, no AC but more than enough fans had us sleeping like babies. If you are expecting the Ritz, stay at the Ritz. If you want something that is affordable, comfortable and centrally located in a beautiful setting, then 3402 is for you.

As others have stated - this unit is in dire need of a thorough professional cleaning. Multiple issues which the owner has agreed to address. Right now it is not suitable for anyone with health concerns. The complex itself - Kanaloa at Kona - is beautiful, well kept, great pools. Noisy right now as there is considerable construction and repairs taking place.

we had a really good stay in this condo. The location was great! The view was awesome! The only thing we had problem with was the Britta water filter was expired. We contacted the property manager for it. But I later learned that the filter was out of stock in the groceries.

My husband and I stayed here for about two weeks, and this was our second stay at this property. I have found this unit to be the best value in the Kona area. We love staying at the Kanaloa, but most units start at $250 per night, and with taxes, cleaning fees, administrative fees, those rate quickly go up. Because this unit is a bit older (hasn’t been fully upgraded, but everything is functional and comfortable) and there is no AC, it is much more affordable to stay in. This time around we found that a few upgrades had been made since our stay in 2018-the blinds were cleaned/replaced and there were plenty of fans that made the unit comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet and the complex is beautiful. We hope to visit again in the future. Thanks for sharing your Hawaiian home with us!

Location is great, nice secure complex and within an easy walk to catch a free shuttle to great snorkeling and downtown Kona-Kailua.
The unit itself has a great view on a tiny little bay, the opening pic is exactly what you see from the back lanai. It isn’t the best kept unit, maintenance wise, but it is kept that way to keep the cost down and the owner is upfront about this.
Our only issue stemmed from this deferred maintenance however, as the dishwasher went out about halfway through the stay. When I went to email the property manager, I found they had already emailed me about the dishwasher being replaced during the morning of our last day. So, there wasn’t much point in having it fixed and we were stuck with hand washing dishes the rest of the week. I felt at best we should have had a small refund for our trouble and at worst an apology for our inconvenience, however it was disappointing to receive neither.

The Kanaloa Townhouse complex is oceanfront - with part of it situated on He'eia
Bay. There is a peek-a-boo view of the water from the living room, and I had coffee on the deck each morning, serenaded by the sound of crashing waves.
The complex is a quick drive to a shopping center, where you'll find groceries and sundries. The biggest plus is that it is just a bit south of Kona, so out of the tourist area, and a convenient jumping off point to see the rest of the island, especially for hiking in the southern volcanic areas.
The complex is beautifully landscaped and there are three beautiful pools, plus a snorkeling area about a five minute walk away. This is by far the best neighborhood in the area.
The owner of the condo have created an equipment closet, generously filled to the brim with anything you might need to enjoy the beach: snorkel gear, find, boogie-boards, beach shoes, beach umbrella, and even a small cooler for picnics. It was a wonderful surprise and we made good use of it.
Loads of beach towels were also available, and between our multiple daily trips to the pool and beach time, we were well supplied with dry towels this way.
The condo decor and interior is vintage-1980s, but comfortable - with the exception of the sofa :)
We cooked most of our meals and the kitchen had everything we needed.
It was just the two of us, and we were there for a whole month, so we really felt at home by the time we left.
We had a great time during our stay at 3402, and would return in a heartbeat.

Great communication and directions to property, older lock box for key was difficult to get into late first night (would have preferred just a code and no key), larger than expected, dated as expected, would have paid more for AC if the unit had that option, but we kept 4 fans going. I don't usually write many reviews but this property was one of a different kinds that I feel I should write. My overall impression about this property is neutral. It neither exceeded my family's expectations largely nor it was in a very poor state.
Bright side:: this property is very close to the coffee plantations area. Coffee farms and tours are why I visited the Big Island. This a quiet place since its considered a "resort' as well there are people who own condos and actually live here. The quietness actually worked for my family.
Not the bright side:: Upon our entry, one of the bathrooms were not clean, we saw hair on the sink and bathroom floor. The cushions on the sofa were not clean. The kitchen stove exhaust does not work. The booking process is a bit of a journey. There is a middle person between the owner and the person who is booking this property. First you book the property online, then the owner emails you a form to sign (which basically says you agree to all terms and the money is non-refundable once you pay), then the middle person handles the rest of the process. The owner's cancelation policy is very strict. The pictures uploaded about the property such as black sand beach, the pools etc are not that great.
Again, this is a neutral review. I would still consider staying here next time but would definitely check out other reviews first before booking

This condo and location has worked out great for a couple of many stays on the Big Island. Comfortable and well equipped. Love having separate bathrooms. Dual lanais is nice to find shade. Oceanside pool is awesome.
The complex is very well kept, and such a peaceful location. Short walks to Heeia Bay, Keauhou Bay and Outrigger for manta action.

We wanted to leave more stars, but there were just too many issues we were left to deal with. The location is great, loved the ocean view. The property was beautiful and well-kept. However, we had cockroaches IN THE UNIT, since day 1. It’s worth it to include, my boyfriend and I were staying there for 1 month, working from home, so we spent a lot of time in the unit. We dealt with cockroaches in the double digits. The owners we’re notified multiple times and they sprayed various times, and added traps, but nothing worked. There were also microscopic bugs on the bathroom counters and tubs. Just to add one more issue, the master bathroom’s shower was plugged day 1. I really just wish these issues were handled prior to having people pay and stay in this unit.

There was a little disorder during check-in bc the wifi was not working and the sofa bed sheets were hidden in some drawers in the master bedroom. But other than that, it was a easy-peasy check-in process and a really nice condo. Really great having our own washer/dryer and the two porches were amazing! One had the view of the bay which is a marine reserve, great snorkeling with calm waters. Would recommend!

We had such a sweet stay at this condo! I loved the island style kitsch and the lanai facing the beautiful little bay was just lovely. The complex was beautifully kept and landscaped and the ocean pool was a perfect spot for a sunset a watching canoe teams doing sprints. Hope to stay at the special property again one day...

I was overall pleased with my experience. My most favorite part about our apartment was how close we were to the pool, access to the ocean view, security gate, and check-in. We did not have to walk far in distance since everything was close by. I was also surprised at the amount of space our apartment had. It provided a lot of room to walk around. I really appreciate how there were toiletries provided for us. It saved my husband and I some money and room for our luggage. My only concern would be the location of the condo. It is quite far from the airport and other locations that provide shopping (besides Keauhou shopping center) so it was important to have a rental car and leaving the apartment earlier throughout the day was a must if we wanted to accomplish the things that we had to get done that way.

The condo was spacious, quiet, clean, and well equipped with everything we needed to make our vacation memorable - snorkels, beach chairs, towels, etc. The location was perfect for us. We enjoyed our nights on the lanai with candle light and wine. The only thing I would suggest for improvement would be better fans or air conditioner in the bedroom. We had some muggy nights which made sleeping a challenge... otherwise, everthing was perfect!!!

While this property does not have a full-on ocean view, I actually preferred being back a little, listening to the waves and loving the beautiful landscaping of the complex. The unit itself was clean and well kept, had a comfortable layout, large bedroom with bathroom, peek-a-boo ocean view and a lanai. The front lanai was large, comfortable with the glorious view. We found the complex private, wonderfully landscaped and very quiet. Very enjoyable.

Jim and Debbie have a condo that is part of a lovely complex. The outside area is well maintained, has clean pools and a short walk provides an outstanding view of the ocean. The morning sun strikes the condo just right so that you can sit on the lanai and soak up early morning rays while sipping your drink of choice and listening to the ocean and birds chirping away. There is a closet full of all the accessories you’ll need to head to the beach and a bookshelf that makes any avid reader content. Kim, their propert manager is quick to respond and helpful in her replies. This particular condo could be an easy 5 star with a few updates and a deep clean.

We very much enjoyed our stay at your place, it was very comfortable and perfect for what we needed. Sitting on the lanai listening to the waves crash just steps away was very peaceful. We enjoyed coffee on the lanai every morning, some mornings watching the sun come up. The space is great, just right amount of space for a small family. The kitchen was perfectly stocked with dishes and utensils for our use. All the items we needed were there for play time at the beach or visiting the pool.
Only thing that is not perfect about this place is no a/c, it gets warm during the day. But it is absolutely beautiful in the evenings with a cool breeze and we slept very comfortable with the windows open and the breeze coming in. It was very quiet and peaceful.
We would definitely stay here again.

My recent stay on the Big Island of Hawaii was in Kanaloa at Kona Unit #3402. Having visited Kona several times before and staying at different locations between Ali’I Drive and Napoopoo Road, this was the best vacation EVER! The view of Heiea Bay from the lanai was breathtaking, sounds of the ocean and birds outstanding, and visits from colorful geckos were enjoyed with my coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. There is a very comfortable lounge chair on lanai as well, so if you have plans to go out, try not to fall asleep. Not a problem for me, I was on vacation! This condo was clean and had everything there that I needed and then some! The kitchen and equipment closet had many extras for use that you would never get in a hotel room. I particularly appreciated the coffee grinder, rice cooker, snorkel set(s), pool floats, beach chairs and cooler. The amenities (3 pools, 3 spas, ping pong table, clubhouse, tennis courts, grills, etc.) were awesome. In the clubhouse, there are many brochures and assistance if you choose a guided excursion. I did not use this service as there were many books (Big Island Revealed 8th edition) at condo #3402 that I kept in the car to guide my adventure and exploration. No worries, I left it there for the next guest to enjoy.Snorkeling is my favorite activity. There are many snorkeling locations on the Big Island; however, Kahalu’u Beach Park and Two Step never disappoint.

We would happily book this apartment for another visit. It is an exceptionally spacious one-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment with a convenient layout that provides excellent privacy between the public living spaces and the bedroom. The apartment is on the first-floor – about three steps up from ground level – which makes access easy. The grounds are lovely and the apartment is sited so that the spacious lanai off the living room is quite private. There’s a dedicated, covered parking space. There are three pools in the complex, one of which is for adults only.
The apartment is chock-full of thoughtful details that make living easy and comfortable. There’s a washer and dryer; the spacious kitchen is well-equipped and has a full selection of spices and condiments as well as cleaning equipment and supplies; there are dining tables in both the kitchen and the dining area; there are plenty of hangars in the closets and plenty of storage space; there’s a comprehensive welcome book with instructions and contacts; there are overhead fans in every room and a few standalone fans as well; the light/fan switches are clearly labelled; the management is very responsive; the king-size bed was the most comfortable sleeping bed we experienced during our five weeks in Hawai’i. We were delighted with the apartment and enthusiastically recommend it.

My husband and I stayed at this unit for 2.5 weeks in July. We have visited the big island many times and this was my second stay at the Kanaloa at Kona. There are both negatives and positives to staying in this unit. First off the negative: This unit is an older unit and is in need of some updates. The blinds in the bedroom were pretty old and looked quite dirty, and the fan in the living room was not working. Without AC, it was very stuffy and uncomfortable. I have stayed at other properties in the area with no AC and it hasn’t been an issue with breezes and fans, but this unit was much stuffier and hot than others. There were several floor fans throughout that we used that made it bareable. There was not much of a breeze ever while we were here. Also the toilet in the master bedroom doesn’t flush very well and ran through out the night. Another thing is that we found several cockroaches throughout the unit during our stay. I know this is something that people just deal with in Hawai‘i, (I once had a rental car infested with them) but still kinda gross. We were very careful to keep the kitchen clean too.
All that being said, there are lots of great things about this unit too. First, the facilities at Kanaloa are great. Three swimming pools, one right on the ocean. So beautiful. There’s tennis courts and a clubhouse as well. The location is great too. There’s a shopping center less than 5 min away and a beautiful bay to swim and snorkel at that’s a three minute walk. The condo is well equipped. We cooked most nights and had everything we needed. There’s tons of beach equipment-chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, snorkeling gear, cooler etc. there are also games to play and tons of books to read. The bed in the master bedroom is also really comfortable, and the unit is very spacious.
Overall, we felt that this unit was a good value, even though it’s a bit run down.
