Unfortunately hit some complications that had me stranded as the home owner just happened to be out of town- beware the front door is auto locking so even if you’re just stepping out to your car have the house key in hand! I had also met a centipede for the first time which was also a first for me. Clean house with all of the amenities needed as well a comfortable bed.

We absolutely loved our stay in this cottage in Hana. I cant recommend it enough. It was everything we hoped for. Clean and very comfortable for the two of us celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. The bed was super comfortable. The kitchen provided everything we needed. We cooked on the charcoal grill one night. The porch facing the ocean was magical to have coffee in the morning and cocktails at night. Ocean on one side- breath taking mountains on the other side! Cows grazing and mooing 20 ft. from our front door. It was just amazing in every way! We stayed 3 nights so we could really spend time in Hana and explore and not feel rushed. If you're looking for a place to stay in Hana, just stop looking and book this cottage- if its available! We do recommend you rent a Jeep or similar vehicle so you can easily park at the cottage.

The absolute privacy of our deck was a real treat!
The appliances were in excellent condition and easy to use.

Everything was wonderful! The location was perfect for a relaxing and quiet getaway and the views were beautiful. The house had everything we needed from kitchen supplies to beach gear. The checkin instructions were accurate and we appreciated the detailed instructions. Hana and this house was our favorite stay during our trip to Hawaii and we were so sad to leave!

Great little place for our honeymoon! There are quite a few bugs around the place and ants can get on the counter very easily, so just be aware of that with lights at night and such. But the place is just off the road to Hana and is super close to great beaches and hikes! It's a small place but it's plenty of room for 2. But it was very peaceful, the view is amazing, and we would highly recommend this place!

Gorgeous view, perfect place for a couple, comfortable bed, has almost everything you need to have a "unplugged" vacation getaway. Bring groceries/drink with you to have what you want as choices are limited in Hana, and more expensive. No AC, but the normal winds thru this cottage keep it quite comfortable. Really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again for sure.

The cottage might not look that eye catching from the outside but once you enter, you are simply in paradise!
The cottage had all we needed to find relaxation and comfort. The cows wandering by and the breathtaking ocean view right from the bed/patio are amazing. You go to sleep with and wake up to the ocean view. No AC, and it was not needed at all! We enjoyed the fresh air and the easy things you can do in Hana. I specially the Hamoa beach. Deeply recommend for some paradisiacal me out.

If you are looking for serene and beautiful this is your place. Hana is the quiet, out of the way side of the island and this cottage epitomizes that. The view is stunning. Being able to see the sun rise over the ocean from bed is amazing. Cottage is not fancy, but has a lot a character and everything you need.

This property was incredible! Very good location, well equipped and clean. The kitchen had everything we needed for some light cooking (microwave, fridge, some oil/utensils and a pan) and the view was spectacular. We didn't really have much of a problem with bugs/lizards either.

We loved the cottage so much! It was by far our favorite of the five places we stayed across Oahu, Hawaii and Maui during our three week vacation. We loved the remote location, the incredible view from the lanai, and the easy access to the Kipahulu District of Haleakala NP. (PRO TIP: It's a 20ish minute drive from the cottage to the Pipiwai trailhead. Arrive there at 7:30 AM to have the waterfalls, banyan tree, and bamboo forest completely to yourself. Otherwise expect a non-stop line of people.)
We only stayed three nights and wished we'd stayed longer. Maybe next time!

I was skeptical about this listing being as good as it looked and described. As it turned out I was right, it was better. It was comfortable and well equipped but the best part is the location right on the water front. It feels like your are alone in a place you only see on television. Despite the fatigue of a long day driving to Hana, I couldn’t wait to wake up to see what the sunrise would look like and it didn’t disappoint. I will definitely stay longer on our next trip to Maui.

My husband and I stayed here for the last three nights of our ten night vacation in Hawaii and it was a perfect place to relax after being very touristy for the first part of the trip. We were fortunate to have perfect weather, but even if it had rained, the lanai was protected enough to enjoy the outdoors. We loved the view of the ocean w whales and the Big Island on the other side. The cows grazing below the lanai added to the serenity and character of this cute little cottage on the ranch. The close proximity to the east side of Haleakala NP was a bonus so we could hike there early in the am to beat the crowd. We would definitely return here and recommend it to our friends. Staying in Hana was a recommendation from our neighbors who had driven the Road to Hana before us and we were grateful for the heads up- it contributed greatly to the relaxing end of our trip. The place is charming, old, historic, retro, great view of the ocean, wall of windows to enjoy nighttime and day break, a one of a kind place to experience Maui/Hana.
It’s lacks the basics, grill and charcoal provided, but no lighter or matches to get the grill started, no metal bbq tools, no aluminum foil. No coffee provided (everywhere we staid on the island they always provided ground coffee) refrigerator is full of odds and ends that people have left and may or may not have passed expiration date. No bar of soap for the shower, again you can find odds and ends that people have left under the bathroom sink for shampoo and conditioners.
Basic needs are not taken care of for such a wonderful location. Needs much improvement on the services and amenities that are not provided.

We loved our stay here. We stay a few nights in Hana every time we visit Maui, and this by far was our favorite spot. We usually have a couple of our children with us, and this cottage perfect for just us two. We enjoyed the cute cottage and it had everything we needed. The view of the ocean is absolutely stunning. Sitting on the back lanai with that view, made it very hard to leave to explore Hana. We picked up food in town every night and ate at the cottage so we could enjoy the ocean and sunset! The cows roaming the hillside, the birds, butterflies, geckos, were a bonus! Since it is a little outside of Hana it was a very quiet area too. We will definitely stay here again! First of all, the view from the lanai is incredible. The town of Hana is quite charming. As there’s not a lot of food options we cooked dinners in and dined on the lanai. The place was very clean and the surrounding area was very quiet and peaceful. We were there during a massive thunderstorm and got quite the show. Great place! 10/10 would come back!

Mornings were peaceful as we enjoyed coffee and breakfast on the lanai with birds and butterflies. One of our sunsets included the cows! The sliding doors offering ocean views was such a treat. What a magical property!! You can feel the love in this wonderful cabin. My husband and I were here for only two nights and wished we could have spent more time. It's a short drive from Hana and VERY private. It has a huge sliding glass doors that are screened onto the lanai. The bed sits right by this and made for quiet, cool and wonderful sleeping.The views are simply spectacular. Each day hiking, exploring and relaxing on nearby beaches, we stopped in Hana and picked up dinner from one of the many fabulous food trucks and took back to the cabin and ate on the lanai. However, if you want to cook while staying there, you will have everything you will need. Michelle is very responsive and nearby. We had no problems finding the cabin or with access. When we come to Maui, we will definitely stay here. There's still a lot to explore.

Our previous visits to Hana always felt rushed as we typically stay in Kihei when we visit Maui. We decided to book this cottage to allow ourselves some time to leisurely explore the area. OMG! Might be our absolute FAVORITE!! The cottage is PERFECT for a couple & SO COZY that you just might not leave this little nest!! This property was absolutely amazing. The view and setting alone are more than enough reason to stay here. You are just outside of the town of Hana. To stay here, and get up in the morning before other tourists arrive for the day is perfection. After the best rainstorm of my life on the first night, we got up, drove up the road and enjoyed the amazing fresh waterfall, alone. Then drove in to town for a few supplies, the post office and were back relaxing on the lanai before anyone else arrived to town. The setting is so peaceful.
There are geckos which come out in the evening and are interesting to watch.
The cottage is very well stocked and comfortable. We slept with all the windows / slider open each night. It was wonderful to listen to nature outside. Trust me, there IS a reason the bed has a blanket.
Cows and their calfs did come right up to the deck for some lovely grass.
We drove back down Hana Hwy @ 5 am to see a friend before catching a flight. The drive is easy. Watch out however for cows and peacocks on the road early am.
I highly recommend this property. It was impeccably clean and oh so comfortable. I hated to leave. Would mutch rather have stayed in the cottage than moving on to Kauai.

The Koali Cottage was perfect for our first ever trip to Hawaii. The location may be a bit more challenging to get to, but worth the longer drive from the airport in exchange for where you end up! When you first walk in the front door, you can’t beat the sweeping ocean views across the entire back of the cottage. Waking up to that view (in a very comfy bed) every morning was incredible. Coming home to it after a day of adventures was also instantly soothing and wonderful. We spent lots of time on the large comfortable lanai enjoying meals and watching sunrises and sunsets. The cottage was pretty clean despite some of the expected worn-in nooks and crannies that one might expect in an old cottage (and from some recent renovations), which didn’t bother us or affect our stay. But all the bedding and sitting areas and everything we used each day was very clean and tidy. The cottage is well appointed with everything you need to enjoy time there. With windows everywhere, glorious cross breezes, passing rain showers, and multiple fans, we didn’t feel any need for AC. The cottage was kept naturally cool and very comfortable for sleeping. This special place is truly a magical spot and we found it very hard to tear ourselves away at the end of our stay. I sincerely hope we get to return and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone visiting Maui. And the property manager Michelle was also super responsive and very helpful for any questions. Mahalo for a perfect stay on our vacation!

Our three day stay in this picturesque cottage was the highlight of our 7 day honeymoon. The pictures simply don't do justice to the experience of sunrise greetings as coffee is brewing, banana bread warming, waves crashing far below; cattle lowing, ocean breezes blowing, trees creaking and rustling, rainbows shining, birds calling, flowers blooming, and sunsets glowing as the wine is chilling. The cottage was comfortable, clean, nicely appointed and the view from the lanai that made it hard to leave in the morning to see the many noteworthy sights nearby. The location IS superb, however, for allowing early morning, uncrowded access to some of the most tourist heavy attractions on the east side. The property manager, Michelle, was just absolutely wonderful to communicate with and gracious with our questions. It helped to follow the guidelines of the house and we ended up having no issues with bugs or critters because of it. Personally, I have always loved the company of geckos -- I find their chirping comforting, and they eat bugs! What's not to like? As our stay fell on a weekend we were able to catch some live music and ono pizza at Hana farms one lovely evening. Definitely recommend bringing a few food staples with you for variety, but also recommend picking up fruit from roadside stands and trying some of the local food trucks and restaurants as well. This is the east side, so be prepared for rain at some point, but chances are good that it will be short lived and bring dazzling rainbows. Mahalo to the owner for sharing this bit of paradise with so many!

We arrived and very easily feel in love with this very homey cottage. We enjoyed the lanai for the early evening then went into town for dinner. Upon arrival back at the cottage there was a HUGE cockroach on the ceiling above the bed. We did not leave any doors open or have any lights on but still there it was. Needless to say, I could not sleep there and we ended up sleeping in our car.

The cottage was a cute and relaxing getaway on the island of Maui. After a long and windy drive on the Hana Highway, it was so nice to be greeted by this clean, relaxing, and quaint destination. Try to arrive during daylight hours though so you can find your way! Even with no A/C, it was very comfortable with the ceiling fan and windows open. The place was very clean and well-stocked with a full kitchen, beach towels, etc. You can choose to bring your own food or there are great little places to grab food in Hana a brief drive away.

Relaxing environment with stunning view of the ocean. When we arrived I was worried about the noise level due how closeness to the road. Noise wasn’t a problem at all! We enjoyed the closeness to the hiking trails. Early morning hiking is ideal, little to no trail traffic and you get to experience the true beauty of nature before it becomes disturbed by tourists. The cottage was stunning, check in was easy. Highly recommend for individuals seeking so R&R in nature.

Wow! This cute little cottage is in an amazing location on a small cattle farm right on the coast. The views from the Lanai are indescribably gorgeous. If you are lucky, a few hungry cows may come greet you near the Lanai. The house is very comfortable and we found the kitchen perfectly suitable for cooking our meals to enjoy on the Lanai. At night there are stars all the way to the horizon. Getting there is an adventure along the road to Hana. There are great beaches, waterfalls, hiking all within short, exciting drives. We already miss this place, it will forever be in our memory as a happy place for a meditatve moment of Zen.

This place is exactly like the posting!! My husband and I stayed here for the last 3 days of our trip. It was the perfect, relaxing on the back deck every morning and night. The location is wonderful. There is a grocery store and food trucks within 15 minutes. It was nice to be able to enjoy the different sites along Hana over a few days, instead of cramming it all into one day. The host was extremely responsive to the one question we asked. We would definitely recommend staying here to anyone !! Small piece of paradise on earth ❤️

If you like the description you will like the cottage - it is exactly as described. Out in the country with a fantastic ocean view. All glass (with screens) on the makai side so you can see the ocean from the bed. We slept with the doors open and heard the waves as we woke up. A wonderful place!

If you are looking for clean, peaceful country experience in Maui, away from the crowds and for a reasonable price, I would highly recommend this cottage. The view and the sounds were spectacular, the inside of the house was much nicer than expected. We were expecting to deal with more bugs and geckos based on the listing, but we hardly even noticed them. Overall, we had a lovely stay and would definitely be staying there again if we go back to Hana.

This open air, cozy, quaint, clean and tastefully decorated cottage with family art was beyond wonderful; truly worth the challenging road to Hana. It has all the creature comforts; well stocked kitchen, dreamy bed, large shower. Communication with Michelle was prompt, efficient and courteous. We spent 6 memorable days mostly enjoying the spacious lanai, ever changing light, colors and sea surf. How delightful to see the cows graze in the pasture below or to see the Milky Way at night. There are many notebooks from the past 23 years from world travelers filled with stories and art inspired by this magical cottage. We feel fortunate to be among them. Mahalo nui loa!!!

My husband and I had a wonderful 3 nights stay in this property. It is very comfortable and extremely serene and relaxing. There is plenty of sightseeing nearby, but honestly, we loved being "home" so much, we didn't want to be away for too long. Waking up to the ocean and morning stars still in the sky on the horizon was such a perfect way to start every day.

It was secluded, but it felt safe. Neighbors were virtually out of sight from the balcony. So it was pretty much the most amazing panorama view of an undeveloped, east Maui out towards Big Island. Super cool. It is was only 10-15mins from Hana. Easy to find by GPS. Cell reception was good for that side of the island. If going south the following day, it would be a 10min drive through some switchbacks to the Haleakala National Park. Perfect stop for our plan.
All facilities worked properly. The only thing I would wish for is a washer/dryer and more outlet plugs. However, that didn't matter too much to us as we were only there one day.
Also, the cattle came up to the house at night which was cool! I would recommend to those who could afford it!

This property is a free standing, one bedroom cottage on the Southeast coast of Maui near Hana. The view from the porch is spectacular. There are other properties nearby but they are out of view so that the only thing you see from the porch is pasture, forest, ocean, and the Big Island in the distance. Enjoy the sites nearby early-morning or late-afternoon to avoid the crush of the Road to Hana day trippers. Retreat to your beautiful porch mid-afternoon for a happy hour while the crowds pass. The property manager clearly pays attention to the details...amenities, styling, and cleanliness were all perfect. The word "ranch" in the property is real. You'll have cows as neighbors and they are the best. Hana (restaurants, food trucks, groceries, gas) is just a short drive. For added adventure, travel in a Jeep and take the South road back to the other side of the island. The panoramic views on the South side are a stark contrast and equally beautiful to those on the North side Road to Hana.

Cottage was really cute and the view from the balcony instantly relaxes you! Hana is definitely a sleepy beach town and this was a great place to get away for a few days!

Overall liked the place: it was clean, great view, and kept a good temperature at night. The driving to get around the island from here is pretty but long — plan accordingly! We had a few small lizards greet us upon arrival in the space — which was fine and we got used to it just be aware of this. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and feel like this is the perfect place to stay in Hana.

We stayed at the Koali Ranch cottage for a couple of days during our first trip to East Maui, and we could not have asked for a better stay. We loved the little ranch cottage, with it's high floor-to-ceiling windows and lanai to enjoy a beautiful view of coastal pastures and the ocean. With the birds singing and the cows grazing, this cottage will give you a slice of rural life in East Maui.
Spending the night here will give you the opportunity to hike the Pipiwai trail, Seven Sacred pools and visit the East Maui beaches before the crowds driving the road to Hana arrive by noon. You are not too far from the food trucks/convenience store either, making your stay comfortable.
The host, Michelle was prompt with addressing our concerns/requests during our stay, and we would love to come back again!

We absolutely loved our 3-night stay in the cottage!!! I spent nearly every minute sitting on the covered lanai (deck) that looks out over green pastures and trees to the ocean, with a glimpse of the Big Island in the distance. Listening to the birds and waves, seeing a few whale spouts and watching the sun, rain and thunder/lightning storms pass overhead... It was so peaceful and quite magical! And very private. Nearest neighbor is some distance away. Other than hearing the occasional car pass by on the road, the only sounds were the birds singing and the waves crashing on the cliffs far below the cottage. My only issue was that the bed was too soft for me. I ended up sleeping on the floor on the lounger cushion, which was surprisingly comfortable! Highly recommended!!

We only stayed for one night in this cottage but caught an amazing sunset and the best sunrise I've ever seen! The place was clean and the shower was excellent and very welcome after a full day to Hana. We loved the breeze-through windows and giant sliding glass door to the patio. This cottage was my girlfriend's favorite part of our trip. We had some rains while we were sleeping and the raindrops on the steel roof made the experience even more special. Highly recommended!!

The views are unobstructed and breathtaking. We were in our own personal oasis. So peaceful and relaxing. It was much better than staying at a resort. Loved it all.

The property was just as listed, and was great. My sister and I stayed here in October. We were a little nervous about not having AC, but it was totally fine - we weren't hot at all. I highly recommend making time to stay at least one night in Hana - we stayed 3 and could have used one more! And I definitely recommend this property. It was so cute and homey - the perfect place to relax and get away from it all!
A couple of things to note - you can't hear the ocean from the deck (at least we couldn't). But it is beautiful to look at! And the lizards love the deck after dark, so we didn't use it much then. But they never came inside and never bothered us - I'm just a little afraid of lizards :)
Overall, a great stay and I would love to return one day!
