This is my 4th trip to Kona Makai, and the 4th different condo I’ve stayed in. Each has been clean, well cared for, and had the view as advertised.
The grounds at magnificent, with a fabulous tropical garden. The pool is delightful, and the patio area is excellent. Lounge chairs for relaxing, tables and chairs for dining or socializing, and 5 grills for use by guests!

Beautiful sunsets! Lush gardens. Lot's to do nearby but lovely to just sit by the ocean and watch the water. Nice pool area! I forgot something after we left. I reached out to our contact and she was quick to get back to me. They retrieved my item and were very helpful in getting it back to me. Much appreciated for the extra effort on their parts! Would definitely stay again!

We have really enjoyed our stay. There is more than enough space for 2. It was very clean and had all the amenities for a comfortable stay. We love watching. The sunset right on the water and walking into town in the am. The location is very convenient.

We are so lucky to have been able to book this cute yet spacious apartment space on the Kona side. Check in was a breeze (tons of parking available) and the owner was fast at replying to any questions that I had. From the theme of the decor to the endless supply of utensils and water sport/beach supplies, we could tell that a lot of love and effort has been put into the place. Super close to the downtown Kona area. The sunset views from the shared space near the water were a cherry on top. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!

The condo was perfectly located for us between downtown and other sites to the south. It also was well stocked with kitchen and bathroom needs. The property was clean, nice staff, and beautiful views of the ocean.

The remodeling was nice and the room was very clean.
Washer and dryer a plus
Most cooking appliances we needed were available, maybe add a rice cooker.
The complex is nice, we took advantage of the pool and bbq grill and watching the view of the sunset was great.

Great condo to spend your days. Everything you need is supplied and more. Guess cleaning workers leave usable supplies, so check fridge, freezer, and cabinets before shopping. Lots of coffee was available. Also useful beach and snorkeling supplies, (you will want to rent beach chairs). Two air conditioning units, ceiling fans, comfortable bed, nice Lanai on interior side of complex. Very nice pool, jacuzzi, and BBQ's. No ocean entry at complex, and everything other than walkers in exercise room is severely rusted. Manager/owner very nice and helpful.

This unit was really nice. It was at a central location to the events we planned, both north and south of Kona. Unit was very clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We would stay here again if/when visiting Kona again.

This condo was fantastic for our family of 3. The condo is in a prime location, well appointed, roomy, and has plenty of parking. We will definitely be staying here again!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Kona makai unit. The property is very nicely maintained, and full of beautiful gardens. We've stayed in a number of places in Kona on previous visits, and this is probably one of the lushest and greenest complexes we've been in. As an added bonus, it backs onto the shore, so we were just steps away from the waterfront. It's too rocky to enter the water there, but we enjoyed just exploring the tidepools and watching the sunsets.
The unit itself is clean and very well stocked. You have everything you need there to prepare your own meals. There are even lawn chairs and snorkeling sets if needed. The lanai is shaded nearly the entire day, so it never gets too hot. We enjoyed sitting out there and looking over the plants, the birds and the view. The location is good, it is about 1.5 miles from the center of Kona. However, there aren't too many amenities in the immediate vicinity. The green flash coffee shop is very close, and it is great, but note that is only open m-f.
All in all, it was a great stay, and we will definitely return to the Kona Makai.

The unit is in a great location! It has a nice pool and bbq area overlooking the ocean. It’s also minutes away from beaches for snorkeling, boogie boarding and surfing. The unit was clean and both the bed and sleeper sofa were comfortable for sleeping. The bathroom is updated and has a great shower. Very well thought out for a perfect guest experience.

The place was great. We were able to easily access the whole island. We met lots of nice people at the pool and the place was so quiet. We never heard anyone else. Great for a couple or girlfriends looking to get away.

We had a great time during our stay in the Kona area! The condo was very nice , comfortable, and had everything we needed. We particularly liked the BBQ/pool area down by the water, and gathered down there every night, along with others, to watch the sunset. We also cooked dinner down there several times. Also, the shower is epic! Much nicer than what you typically find in rental units. We were a bit disappointed that the pool repairs were not completed, so the pool was not open during our stay. That project clearly took longer than expected, as they kept bumping the pool opening date later and later. Watching the repair crew (2 guys - not much of a crew) work during our stay there, it wasn't much of a surprise. They were very slow.
We read other reviews about the condo being too warm, and the AC being inadequate. We didn't have that issue at all. We never ran the AC at all during our stay - just the ceiling fans - and found it to be quite comfortable. With large sliding doors at either end, the condo had good air flow. I think it depends a lot on what you're used to.
A couple suggestions: They might consider adding a light and a ceiling fan out on the lanai. But overall it was great and we would stay there again!

We really enjoyed this unit in Kona Makai. It was very clean and had a good setup for a small family with all the kitchen stuff included. It is close to town and not too far from the best beaches. All the amenities were as advertised. We would gladly stay here again.

Comfortable. Reasonable base pricing. Close enough to town to walk. It has a partial ocean view rather than full as advertised as I remember but sufficient. It is good for couples or Seniors like us though would not work for families due to noise and pool restrictions.

Loved it! More than pleased! It was clean. All utilities were provided. Peaceful! Wonderful view! Tons of beach items (towels, goggles, chairs, etc.). A no worry way to just enjoy the breath-taking beauty of Kona Island. Great location. This property will be at the top of our next Kona vacation.

Blinds in living room did not close lack of privacy not clean eg air conditioning input had black dust water in shower and sink Luke warm. Ac input sounded like a jet taking off tv did not work curtains in bedroom were almost see through and light shining in kept us awake missing slats on the blinds about five previous tenants left opened food on fridge Dusty all over. We had to clean it door latch to lanai kept sticking shower did not work. Eventually after a repair man cam he managed to open the shower about 75% hot water was repaired after three days we felt like we were in a third rate apartment. Very disappointed with vrbo and the owner who did not take care of the premises light switch in bathroom and electric outlet did not work and was replaced after about three days

Since it was our first time to Kona, it was a bit of a gamble choosing a place online, but we definitely rolled the dice and won on this great place! Would definitely book it again if we ever go back! Great amenities, location, cleanliness, plenty of room and a beautiful setting!

We love that others leave items for the next guests to use and we did the same thing as well.
Unit was clean and the kitchen served us well.
Loved having a washing machine and dryer. Since we went to the beach a lot, it was perfect.

This is a very nice property. Very well located for a base for all your Big Island adventures. The grounds are very well maintained. Loved all the equipment and accessories made available for you in the condo to complete my Hawaiian Big Island visit.

Here’s the positives: Quiet location. Large one bedroom- well equipped. Beautiful outside property with a nice view of the ocean from the lanai.
Here’s the negatives: sliding screen door and sliding closet doors need to be repaired or replaced. The sheets on the bed do not fit well and did not appear to be clean.

This property and unit were lovely and central to everything. So happy with our decision to stay here. Additionally, there were items in the unit for enjoyment, boogie boards, snorkel gear, etc. Also, the back patio area was lush with a view of the water.
My only personal complaint (likely due to the time it takes to wash my big head of hair) was that the solar panels heating the water made for very quick showers, as the water turned cold within the first few minutes.
Regardless, the stay was really enjoyable and I would definitely return again.

Condo has everything you need for vacation. A couple chairs for the beach, beach mats, tommy umbrella and some assorted snorkel gear. Grounds are really pretty and well maintained. Bbq area is clean and is never too crowded. Sunsets at the shore line is nice Gated parking area and a short drive to Kona proper near Alii Dr.
Condo is small but good size for a couple. A little dated inside but it has everything you need to cook, clean, and live comfortably. Lanai is nice sized and quiet. It has A/C but ceiling fans and one stand up fan is all we needed. Breeze comes through in the evening and cools down.
Complex is quiet enough, no parties or anything. Just your typical sounds from people being around.
I’d stay again.

Liked the pool and having most of what we needed to enjoy the beach. The condo bedroom is right next to the drive way and some parking and is noisy in the morning. No coffee, but had lots of condiments.
