The unit is spacious and located in a well-kept resort. The pools and grounds are lovely and the view is great. The ocean is very nice to listen to from the bedrooms.
The place needs a deep-cleaning, windows are dirty, master bath shower is grungy, found a used mask and a sock beside the bed, appliances all work but the washer is so noisy you can’t have a conversation in the living room when it’s running. A/C works but not super cool and it’s noisy. The slider going to the Lanai is hard to work, needs two hands to open and close, and the screen is equally uncooperative, the tub drain is slow. It’s just stuff that is not great but the price is not the highest either, so I guess you get what you pay for.
They provided two garbage bags and two rolls of tp and no paper towels. Four of us stayed 11 nights and seriously it is not as if we would take extra supplies home in our luggage. If you want people to remove garbage and recycling it would be prudent to provide them bags. We made do and hauled it off, but I have never, ever had to buy garbage bags in a rental unit.
The owner asked us to let the plumber in on a day we would be out and then we no longer had a functioning toilet in the master bath. The owner has agreed to refund part of our fee, but this should never be part of a vacation.
Bottom line is, it’s a fair price for a B- unit. It feels like the owner is doing the bare minimum in maintenance and cleaning but the location is great.

We booked this unit last minute due to a change to our travel to Maui. This property is older and needs some maintenance. I will give the staff who maintain the common areas (bbq, man-made beach and outdoor seating) props for their care and attention. They were out in the early mornings attending to these areas. The condo itself is dated and would benefit with a thorough cleaning. Kitchen and bathroom tiles are cracked, ceiling fans draped with dust, the ensuite shower door appears to have either dirt or mold around the outer edges. On the third day of our stay, the property had a scheduled water shutoff for necessary maintenance.
After the water was turned back on, we lost the use of hot water. I emailed the owner, with no response, so we had cold showers for the remaining 8 days of our stay. I emailed the owner after we left and received a response stating the property was awaiting parts. Other than that, the condo is spacious and is in a great location for sunset viewing.

We had a wonderful time staying here! It was perfect for my husband and I and our two kids (ages 7 and 10). We swam every day (sometimes a day) in the pools, barbecued during the sunset, chatted with other residents and loved the ocean sounds from our rooms. The lanai was spectacular and a fully stocked condo was perfect. So many great memories made on this trip. Thank you for the wonderful and affordable accommodations!

I Am very frustrated with this VRBO review website, I wrote a lpng and glowing 5-star review of this property and the site deleted it! Suffice to say we 4 adults had a great time,Owner was very helpful, nice gated parking, lovely ocean sunset views from the unit, and great accessories come with the unit (spices, beach items). Great pools, grills. Unit was dated but very clean, riomy, well appointed with AC and wash/dryer. Highly recommended, 5-star.

We had a great vacation staying in this unit! I was very familiar with Casa de Emdeko, but this unit is much more spacious than most, and has a totally amazing view from the lanai. The hosts were very gracious and accommodating and very kindly arranged for a check in as soon as we arrived-- much appreciated after a 4:30 am pickup to the airport! The beds were comfortable; the unit very clean, and more completely furnished with every detail: no need as I discovered to pack a sewing kit or a flashlight; cupboard full of spices and other staples; hairdryer in each of the two bathrooms. As an older traveler with some mobility issues, I was very pleased by the large walk in shower with a supportive hand rail. We fed our chicken bones to the almost tame moray eels in the tidepools and saw three "green flash" sunsets the first week from the lanai. I highly recommend this unit, and want to thank Mike and Betsy for the opportunity to enjoy it on our vacation.

We stayed there for a total of 6 days and seven nights. The location was the only good part of this property. The blankets were not freshly washed. The sheets had stains on them, so did the towels. Master bathroom shower lights were not working. It was dark and moldy in the drain. The kitchen was full of ants and cockroaches. We understand this is a warm place, but with much needed pest control this place could be kept in better shape. On the last stretch of our vacation, we had to have cold showers for the days in a row. We came back from the beach dirty and iky and found out that there was no hot water in the entire community. We texted the property manager at around 9.30 but never heard back until the next day. In the meantime spoke to another resident and got to know that there was no hot water in all units. There was no communication to us about it and no ETA. Overall not as good as the ratings suggest it to be. Thank you.

Lovely setting. Clean, easy communication. Good a/c and ceiling fans. Wonderful salt water pool and clean grounds. Accessibility is poor if one has difficulty with stairs and handling luggage. The elevator was useless and you had to climb stairs to utilize it. Property is on an incline so stairs needed for all at casa de emdenko.

Amazing!!! We truly enjoyed our stay here! The condo was perfect for us. The overall property is beautiful. We had an amazing sunset view from our balcony and the pool area. It was also nice hearing the waves crashing throughout the night. We loved this place and highly recommend it!

This is a gem, nice secluded area but conveniently close to all the hot spots where you can dine, shop, and enjoy entertainment or you can just relax at the fully supplied spacious condo and enjoy the pool and ocean view. You only hear the ocean no traffic noise. It truly is paradise.

The complex is very nice and well maintained. The parking is a bit inconvenient when you have suitcases or groceries as it is not next to the unit. The salt water pool is great when it’s open. The unit is outdated and needs a deep clean and new towels. No beach chairs or umbrellas in the condo. We rented from a store downtown. The location of the complex is great.

Well maintained. Spacious with large lanai overlooking pool area with ocean views. there were boogie boards and a cooler that we used for the beach. Cleaning crew comes every morning to wipe down tables and chairs by pools. Hoses down walkways and cleans the grills. Everyone was respectful of quiet hours. Peaceful. Would definitely book here again. The host, Mike, responded to text messages promptly .

The property is a gem by the ocean. Walkable to town for morning coffee and muffins at Lava Java or make your own in the fully equipped kitchen.
Have been staying at this place for years and will continue to return. Love the ocean sound at night and the amenities are great!

The condo had old, ratty bath & beach towels, bed linens were stained, a rusty shower caddy and hadn’t been vacuumed. Finding other peoples hair on the bath mats and carpets was discussing. The view from the lanai was beautiful. The sandy “beach” area and salt water pool was the best part of this rental.

This was a perfect location and atmosphere for a family vacation. The condo was very well appointed and head beautiful ocean view from the deck. The salt water pool on the property and on the ocean front was delightful. The condo was spacious and beautiful. The kitchen had everything we needed and plenty of it. My family and I enjoyed our stay at the casa de emdeko! We really liked having a condo on the south side as the sun was not blazing at the windows heating the condo up! We only needed to use the AC at night as the days were beautiful and the condo stayed comfortable! We utilized both the fresh water pool and the salt water pool daily. The salt water pool is great for the views and occasionally you will see whales and dolphins! Overall this condo had what we needed and we will book again in the future!

By no means am I a neat freak, but I needed to do some basic cleaning when we arrived. The coffee maker had dried coffee in the pot, other dishes/utensils had dried food. The pillowcases and beadspread in the master bedroom smelled like mildew and old sweat. Thankfully there was some extra clean bedding, but I was hoping not to have to change sheets while on vacation. There were quite a few gross looking stains on even the clean sheets. The baby gear (play yard and highchair) was nice to have, but had thick layers of dust and grime that took some time to clean before they were usable. There was a musty/mildewy smell in the entire apartment. With a few exceptions, it was like a stepping into a time capsule (vintage decor is definitely cool, but definitely needs some deep cleaning and not "newly renovated" as the description claims). Warning: NOT ADA compliant/stroller friendly. You can't drive near the unit to drop off/load luggage. There IS an elevator, but once you exit the elevator, there are multiple unavoidable sets of stairs you have to navigate through anyways.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and made it work. You can't beat the location or views, but we would probably not stay here again.

The condo is an older unit that needs some updates. The recliners offered nice seating though. There is quite a hike with luggage from the parking lot.

We really enjoyed this property. It was even bigger/better in person than in the photos. The furniture/decor is a little dated but everything was clean, comfortable, and perfect. The property itself is fantastic- both pools are amazing. Every night at sunset there was someone playing conch shells which was quite magical. There is no direct beach access from the property, but we still liked the location due to its easy parking and quick ride to town. Would stay again!

The grounds of the complex are well maintained.
No safe beach access. Closest sandy beach is about two miles.
The complex has safe gated parking and is about 2 miles from downtown Kona.
The unit has NOT been renovated. The mylar wall paper circa 80's in the bathroom is dirty, peeling and has been painted over. All the sink faucets lack aerators and have a grim build up around the bases of the faucets. The sink stopper was stuck. The shower caddy was badly rusted. Also, there was no hand or shower soap supplied. The toilet over flowed the first day. Good thing there are plenty of towels. The old shower door and frame had a build up of soap, grim, and calcium build up.
The living room is nicely decorated with comfortable chairs and a newer carpet. However, all the lamp shades in the unit have a thick layer of dust. Some of the shelves in the dining room also had a thick layer of dust.
The tile counters in the kitchen have many broken tiles that have been glued back together and some areas of the white tile are black from not being cleaned properly. Yuck can be scraped out. The garbage disposal had a short in the switch was repaired after 5 days. The disposal is missing both the rubber gasket which keeps food from flying out and also the stopper is missing. We were there for 9 days and only three dishwasher tabs were provided so we had to buy more. A half a roll of paper towels was provided. There are plenty of pots, pans, plates, glasses and dishes.
The bed spreads were very faded. The mattresses are older. The mattress pad on the king bed had dried blood. The queen bed mattress was older and had three old compressed foam toppers on it.
The screen door leading to the balcony did not close properly and the glass on the sliding glass was broken at t he bottom. There is a nice view of the ocean and sunsets from the balcony. The outdoor furniture is older. There are nice beach chairs and water toys.
The carpet was in good condition but there was no base board or molding. Like the large bathroom, the old textured wallpaper had been painted over instead of being removed.
FYI....the newly retiled pool is beautiful. However, it is not a sea water salt water pool. Due to EPA standards it is now a pool with a salt water disinfecting system. I have photos to show what I have reported.
Be prepared to buy detergent for clothes, dishwasher, and personal use.

We loved being so close to the beach that we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves at night! It was a bummer that the salt water pool was being re-tiled during our stay but there were plenty of other things to do and it was actually fun to watch the progress from the balcony! Mike was a great host and really communicated with us. We had a few small bumps that he helped resolve in a timely manner. We loved swimming in the pool in the morning and having adventures in the afternoon. The property has boogie boards, beach chairs, and toys to utilize. Plenty of beach towels for days! Everything was really convenient. If you wanted to walk you certainly could or most restaurants and activities are within a quick 5-minute drive. We hope to be back soon!
