We were keen on not paying any hidden fees. Our travel agent could not find a single hotel that disclosed all their fees upfront.
We decided to look at condos through VRBO with an ocean view. We were so happy to find Maui Kai Condos in Kaanapali. Upon seeing the photos and reading the reviews for Condo #306, we made our reservation.
Our ocean view was expansive, right outside our lanai. If you stood in our lanai, it looked like we were on a cruise ship without the movement of the waves. It was incredible to hear the waves. Beaches to our right and left. The furniture and decor were beautiful, think Ralph Lauren meets Tommy Bahama. The king bed was comfortable and not hot The bedding was also nice, with extra pillows and blankets. We received a generous welcome basket filled with Maui treats. We loved having a full kitchen with all the amenities to prepare our coffee and breakfast. Nice bathroom with beautiful tile shower, clean with extra towels and shampoo, and conditioner. Great Elfa closet with hanging and drawers. We appreciated having boogie boards, towels, ice chest, yoga mat, and beach chairs in the closet The swimming pool and hot tub were never crowded or loud. And FREE, ample parking.
Easy walk to Dukes, Bad Ass Coffee, Time grocery store, and the Farmer's Market for amazing Acai bowls. And, if you are vegetarian, check out Moku Roots, a 15-minute drive from Laina.
For a more intimate stay in Maui, we highly recommend it! Maholo!

Beautiful location for this cozy studio condo overlooking the ocean. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and everything we needed was there. David and Cathy left a lovely welcome basket. We appreciated the quiet pool area. We discovered the snorkeling out in front of the building was fabulous after heading about 100 yards to the left for easy access into the water.
The grocery store, shops, and restaurants are all in easy walking distance. Just a perfect, relaxing week! We would definitely come back

Maui is the perfect place and Maui Kai 306 is the ideal place to stay while you enjoy all that Maui has to offer.
This was our 5th visit and the whole vacation would have been worth it just for the show we got from the lanai alone.The humpback whales were incredible this year with dozens of full breaches right in front of the condo. We also got to see a monk seal 2 days and turtles every day and on our last day a school of spinner dolphins went by. David and Cathy are gracious hosts and all of the booking and details are handled very efficiently. Maui Kai 306 is a beautiful condo stocked with everything you could ever think of to provide the perfect home away from home.The king bed is very comfortable and the ocean waves will help put you to sleep every night. From a walk down the boardwalk to black rock or on Kaanapali beach or over to Duke’s for a bite or a drink or the endless shopping in Lahaina or sightseeing opportunities that never end or just simply relaxing on your own lanai watching the beautiful sunset you won’t find a better place for a perfect vacation. Beach is non existent directly in front of condominium, but to the left and right when the tides are good you can enjoy sand. Be careful the surf is strong. Also condo has been remodeled at some point and the toilet area is very small and I broke my toe on the outside of the large, sharp tile base!

Maui Kai 306 was just as advertised! It’s cozy, quaint and so close to everything. You can hear the waves crashing on the rocks and sea wall all day- very peaceful and relaxing. The condo is well equipped with everything you could need for a perfect vacation. Can’t wait to come back and stay again!

The view from the room was unreal!! It felt like you were on the water and hearing the waves crash all night was soothing. You can easily walk to the Boardwalk and all the restaurants. We loved the little touches around the place and the welcome basket. I recommend this to anyone.

The Maui-306 condo rental was better than expected. It was clean, had everything we needed and was located on the beach. It was wonderful going to sleep every night with the sounds of waves crashing on the rocks. Also saw several seals while sitting on the lanai. Had a wonderful time staying here. Highly recommend!!

This is the best maintained condo we have stayed in so far, everything from furniture to device of high quality and nice interior design. It is located indeed just at the shore so cannot have closer distance to hearing the waves and observing the sunset. In short distance there are also shopping and food options. No issues with check-in or parking, very smooth process. We enjoyed the stay very much.

There is no better ocean view on the island. The condo was well equipped except for maybe a juicer. We love this property but it might be nice to upgrade the entry to the building. We would definitely stay there again!

We really enjoyed our time at the condo. It was well stocked with quality kitchen items - you don't have to worry about the knives being sharp here. Well decorated with many small spaces to use without it feeling cramped. Bed was supposed and very sturdy for our more plus sized /larger figures. Pool was nicer than the pictures indicated. We would be happy to stay here again.

This property is right on the water. We went to sleep to the sound of crashing waves and woke up to views of whales from bed. The sliding windows on the lanai open up so you can have an ocean breeze, but there are also screens in case there are bugs flying about. We spent a lot of time with the windows open. The location is great and close to restaurants, grocery and coffee. There was even a spot with food trucks for dinner a block away, if that appeals to you. The boardwalk is close and leads down the beach and past Duke’s where we ate breakfast one day and dinner another. The condo was clean and had every convenience you could need. It is conveniently located and you could drive to Kapalua or downtown Lahaina within 10-15 minutes. There are good beaches on either side of the condo complex, but there are other beaches close by if you like to beach hop. And the pool area was nice, as well, with Barbecues, corn hole and other games, and a kitchen for larger get togethers. There was a Super Bowl party while we were there and everyone was invited. There is also plenty of parking. We loved this location and definitely would stay here again.

Our week long stay here was great! This place fully met and exceeded our expectations. Amazing views, especially during whale season. It is on the smaller side, but the owners have done a great job of making the space feel bigger. All updated appliances. Surrounding area is great place for walking, beaches, and food. Right when we walked through the front door, the incredible view was right in our faces! The condo was ALL good! The bed, the linens, the decor, the well equipped kitchen, and comfortable seating (with a view). We enjoyed the pool and hot tub, and also the close proximity to everything one might need. We're still here, about to check out, sadly, but wanted to be sure to accurately express our appreciation to David for making sure we were able to have everything we needed prior to checking in. What we love here on the third floor, right side of the building, is the ability to see all the way to the edge of Molokai, and either use the elevators, or simply to walk up the stairs that are very convenient to the room. The waves and the ocean are always front and center, which gives visitors the feeling of complete isolation from everyone else in the tower. Everything you need is here, including a conch shell that you can play along with all of the other sunset watchers every night as the sun sets behind Lanai. We love all of the other thoughtful touches, from the Hawaiian drying ladder to the delicious gift basket goodies. Maui Kai 306 no ka oi!

Ocean front, water crashing right outside your window, centrally located . . . what more could you want?! My wife and I had an amazing stay here and would come back in a heartbeat! My Fiancee and I recently vacationed in Maui and we stayed in this condo. This was our first experience renting a condo through VRBO so at first I was a little concerned with renting directly with the owners. After several communications with David via e-mail all of my concerns were put to rest. Upon arrival at the condo, David and Cathy had the condo set up to perfection with everything a person could want. The location is fantastic, I knew that it was on the water but this is literally on the water. I already miss those amazing Maui sunsets. We stayed there for 10 days and could have easily stayed longer. Everything for the beach was there, chairs, coolers, all the little things were all there. I highly recommend this condo to all of my friends and family.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary recently staying in this condo. I had never rented a condo before and was a little concerned when I learned I had to reserve with the owners. I called David and we talked about the details. After that I was totally comfortable with the reservation and dealing with David and Cathy. They are great. I had read some stories on the web about condos and was pleasantly surprise when we got there. David and Cathy have set their condo up with everything a person could need. They go above and beyond with what they provide. And the location, wow, it will be very difficult to match the "on the water" feel you get from this condo. Simply fabulous. Wish we could have spent more time there and are actively working to get back asap. I will highly recommend this condo to all my friends and family.

We are a married couple in our late 40's. This was our second stay at this wonderful condo. We will continue to come back again and again if David and Cathy will have us, unless we buy our own condo. ;-) An extremely comfortable condominium with absolutely everything you need! The view is outstanding and the sound of the crashing waves right outside is amazing. We have found this location to be the best in all of Maui. You are walking distance from grocery stores, eateries, and very close to restaurants. We enjoyed walking to Duke's restaurant along the nice beach boardwalk. The hot tub and pool in the facility are protected and not too busy. There is ample parking.

My husband and I feel extremely lucky to have come across this listing on VRBO. Everything went smooth, from our first contact with the owner to today when we received our deposit back. This was our first visit to Hawaii- celebrating our 15 yr anniversary. We travel often and have high standards. The unit was very clean, plenty of towels and the king size bed was great (requirement for us when travelling). The property itself was older, but well taken care of - people were very friendly. Easy access to the beach and the pool was perfect. The view was AMAZING! We slept with the doors open, listening to the crashing waves. My wife and I had the great pleasure to stay here for our honeymoon. Everything we needed or wanted was right there. From close coffee shop, restaurants, and grocery store to quick beach access. We utilized the pool and BBQ on a daily basis. I would highly recommend this location and destination to anyone that wants to have a "homelike" experience on the island.

We had a great time at this condo, it had all the things we needed (and more than we expected) - and the view were as advertised – spectacular!
The room was quiet, and the pool area was peaceful and not crowded - unlike the mega hotel next door. We met some very nice people in the pool area and got some tips of places to see and restaurants to visit.
Cooking at the condo was very easy as it had all the utensils and condiments one could ever need. Since I drink wine, I especially liked the special wine utensils they provided their guests.
We made use of the top notch beach equipment provided, and it was nice having these things available as part of the rental, instead of having to rent or buy them.
The condo was exceptionally clean and well maintained, and the owner was great to work with.
The owners certainly did their best to ensure we had a comfortable stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this condo; view was amazing. When we arrived at the condo we were touched to see a gift basket waiting for us. The condo decor is inviting and well stocked with everything we needed. We looked forward to eating our breakfast on the lania and enjoying the magnificent view. We saw whales every day, turtles from time to time. It was conveniently located for trips up and down the coast and the Times Market was only 2 blocks away for groceries. Our damage deposit was promptly returned and communication with owners was excellent. We hope to return in the not too distant future

We have stayed in the Maui Kai before, in another condo, which paled in comparison, and it was a one bedroom! We were so touched by the most thoughtful gift basket and the all the individual extras that made our stay so memorable. We loved the decor, the bamboo ceiling, in the lanai area, the turtle sculpture, and the large parrot painting in the dining area. The kitchen was so well stocked, with high quality utensils, fresh kitchen towels, and nice appliances. This was definitely our favorite of all the places we have stayed on Maui. We really enjoyed this condo. The only downside is that we didn't stay longer! We were greeted with a nice welcome basket and an incredible view of the ocean. We were so close to the water that it was almost too loud. We quickly got used to it. The condo has well stocked kitchen which we like since we don't eat out much. There are grills in the pool area which work well. Condo also has snorkeling gear, boogie boards, chairs, and coolers. Wifi worked well. Located in the heart of Kaanapali. We had a great time!

My husband and I stayed at Maui Kai 306 for 9 nights. We were in Maui for vacation and to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We found the location of the condo to be very convenient. There was plenty of parking for our rental car. It was close to grocery stores, a health food store, great snorkeling in Napili Bay, restaurants, and lively downtown Lahaina (Front street). The view from the condo was wonderful, the 3rd floor was perfect for looking at the ocean and viewing the incredible sunsets. The sound of the waves were incredibly comforting and lulled us to sleep (actually the sound took a day to get used to, it is that loud!). The condo is furnished with lovely comfortable furniture and a large temper pedic bed. The owners of Maui Kai 306 have included lots of extra amenities: a binder of information about restaurants and suggestions of places to go, literature on Maui, leisure reading, Hawaiian music cds, dvds, boogie boards, beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel equipment, and a fully equipped kitchen. We used the TV and dvd player to watch the owner's helicopter tour of Maui- it was a wonderful virtual trip and it saved us some money! ;-) We were greeted the first day with a welcome basket of local goodies- a very nice personal touch! The pool across the way is nothing fancy like the one next door, however we enjoyed it and had it to ourselves (certainly that could not be said of the resort pool next door). The hot tub was wonderful to relax the tired sore muscles we had from snorkeling. The snorkeling directly in front of the condo is not terrific, however if you walk a short distance towards black rock (near Duke's restaurant), the snorkeling was actually quite good and there was easy access from a sandy beach. Although we typically chose to use the stairs as the condo is only on the 3rd floor, it should be noted that there was an elevator.
We would definitely return and stay in this condo.

From the moment you walk in the door you are greeted with an incredible view of the ocean! The condo is perfectly appointed with truly everything you need, including a mango slicer! There is a lovely TV with a DVD library, however we never even turned it on. Every morning we had bagels on the lanai and fell asleep to waves crashing on the shore. We never got to see the resident sea turtle but on our last morning we were treated the awesome acrobatics of a passing pod of whales. Who can ask for better entertainment?! We left a dining guide to add to your library. We found it very useful, maybe you will too. Honestly, if we would have brought the kids we would have never gone back home. We highly recommend your condo to anyone who will listen. We will gladly be back again in the future (not sure if we can wait a whole year though)!

I fell in love with the pictures and write-ups on this condo, and it was a dream-come-true when I finally arrived!!! You will NOT be disappointed. First of all, the bed is as comfortable as everyone has said it was, and the towels!!!! Fluffy white towels!!!! I felt like I was at the spa. You can't ask for a better view than what this condo has to offer. We spent every morning and evening on the lanai watching the whales cruise by in the ocean. Beautiful. Be sure to bring yourself a good pair of binoculars. You will not be disappointed. And the location is perfect... beach front, close to bus stop, scenic beach walk to Whaler's Village, great snorkeling, swimming, etc. The condo is well-stocked with beach chairs, towels (yes, those were fluffy too), coolers, etc. Plus, David was a pleasure to liase with leading up to, during, and after our stay. We will definitely stay here again.

The view was spectacular. The only issues we had were with the kitchen. The faucet on the sink was very loose and was difficult to turn off and on. Actually, the kitchen really needs updating. Other than that, the directions for checking in late (which we had to do) were not specific. We were afraid our car would be towed since we arrived after office hours. We found all the people associated with the condo were very helpful even though they were not involved with our rental. The owners and renters we met were very friendly, which made for a very pleasant stay.

We stayed in this Maui Kai condo for a week in Jan 2012, and loved every minute. The ocean views are unbeatable. We have stayed at other condos on Maui, but if you enjoy watching whales, enjoy the sounds of the surf, and enjoy watching amazing sunsets, then this is your place! The unit is spotlessly clean (I rate it 5 of 5 on cleanliness), the owners have furnished it with many extras for comfort (beach gear for snorkeling, beach chairs) and cooking (oils, rice, spices, etc.) and the furnishings (especially the bed) are very comfortable. The Maui Kai is a small resort (one building with 11 stories) and therefore has a wonderful, friendly atmosphere. Very different from the typical "high-rise condos" around the island. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back to this Maui Kai unit.

You know a place is great when it feels like home. That was our experience with this condo. Everything you need - just walk to the grocery store across the street and you're set. This is our second time in the building over the Christmas holidays and this studio surpassed our ground-level experience the first time around. We rented a car that time, but the location and proximity to stores and bus stop really meant we did not feel stranded without one this year. Views were great, roaring ocean was soothing and everything in the condo was comfortable and top-notch. Dave the owner was very responsive and answered any question we may have had - we would definitely recommend this condo to friends - in fact, we already have!

You won't find a view any better than at Maui Kai. The room is perfect. Everything you will need for the perfect vacation. The view of the mountains from the front door is great as the trade winds fill the condo with cool fresh air. Great upgrades throughout.

Stayed at Maui Kai from August 15-25, 2011. This condo is PERFECT for a couple. The owners have recently upgraded the condo and it's furnishings and have enclosed the lanai, and the condo is FULLY equipped with everything that you will need for a wonderful vacation. Very reasonably priced too. Close to the beach (the closest of any building on Maui) and to shopping. Plenty of free self parking next to condo. THE best place to stay on Maui!

The view of the ocean from this condo is unbelievable! The location is great. The condo is tastefully furnished and has a very comfortable bed. There's a nice flat screen tv and dvd player if that's your thing. Great Bose system with jack for MP3 players. The pool is located behind the condo so it does not have an ocean view, but it is a nice pool. There's a very large resort next door that can be a little noisy from the outside, but is not noisy from within the condo at all. You simply can't get closer to the ocean than this.
We felt so fortunate to have such a wonderful place to celebrate a very special time in our lives. You won't be disappointed by this beautiful condo.

My husband and I did our homework and landed on the Clayton's Maui Kai condo - what a great find! We were impressed from the minute we opened the front door and saw the ocean view...and from there we found that David and Cathy had thought of everything. We were there for a week and their recommendations for activities and restaurants were spot on. And they had all the ammenities we needed to cook, relax, head to the beach, snorkel, etc.
I told my husband that this trip woudl be our once-in-a-lifetime experience - and after our week in Maui, in a beautiful condo, my husband insists we'll be back. And I hope he's right!

We stayed in unit #306 for 5 days in November 2005. WE LOVED IT!!! The unit was clean, had everything you needed, the bed the most comfy we ever slept in. The BEST parts were sleeping and listening to the waves hit the shore (we kept the large sliding doors wide open)... you can lay in bed and see the ocean! We also enjoyed having our breakfast on the lania & watching the sunrise & rainbows. For the price & location, it can't be beat! After being on Maui, we traveled to Waikiki Beach for a 5 day conference (work)...the huge, beautiful hotel was right on the beach ( more than TWICE the cost of Maui Kai), but our "beach front view" was a small sliver from the small balcony, and our "sound of waves" was the a/c unit on the hotel next to us! we MISSED Maui Kai! We would for sure recommend anyone looking for a great place to stay, to make it Maui Kai! If we had to say anything negative about it, the pool isnt one of those huge beautiful pools the big hotels have...but we didnt go to Hawaii to swim in the pool...although the hot tub was great, and the pool & pool area is clean & well maintained.

We stayed at this unit at the Maui Kai in Jan/Feb 2006. It was everything you could possibly want. Clean, well stocked, lots of information on things to do and places to go, comfortable bed and foldout, everything you could want was right at your fingertips. The pool/barbique/cabana area was well set up, swimming/snorkeling right off the beach (with turtles) and you can view the whales from the window. Sunsets, rainbows and friendly people - so much to do all around you. We miss the condo! Great Hosts!

We stayed in this condo from Jan. 21 - Jan 27, 2006. We had the time of our life. Our mornings were spent sitting on the Lanai, drinking coffee and watching the whales (yes, they are visible from the condo!). The evenings were spent watching breath-taking sunsets from the condo. You cannot get a place that is closer to the ocean; guaranteed! The owners have thought of everything you could possibly need. I would not hesitate to recommend this unit to anyone. We loved it!

I stayed with a friend at your condo in Dec., 2005 and had the most relaxing time. The accommodations were as comfortable as home, but we had the added bonus of that wonderful sound of surf hitting the sand right outside our window. Comfy bed/pillows and everything you need in the kitchen to prepare your own meals. Easy walking distance to stores, shops, and easy access to the beach for great walks. We saw whales and rainbows on many occasions right from the condo window. I can't wait to make a return visit!

I stayed in this condo over Thanksgiving in 2005. Beautiful unit in an incredible location. Talk about right on the water! Within driving distance of so much that Maui has to offer, this is a place I will definiately stay at again.
